Great if you like a lot of salt and eating things that aren't on the menu.
Christopher P: you have the opportunity of ironing out some easily addressed issues and upping your game here. These are not such difficult matters and I am writing this review in the spirit of encouraging you and the staff to do that. Your industry is a difficult one and I cheer for all small business owners, especially now. So please take this in the context of what could get you and Doro to the next level and be a premier location. It needs some attention to detail.
Pros: food seems fresh, they look to source locally. Price is 'up there' but not stratospheric if the food, service and ambiance merits it.
Cons: the Brussel sprouts were raw; the 'crispy quinoa' was not crispy. It was standard quinoa. Have had crispy quinoa and it is the texture/presentation of rice crispies. We ordered the grilled red snapper - apparently they didn't have any and offered baked flounder instead. 1) It is a different fish, and 2) It is cooked differently! The waitress didn't explain what was not on the menu ahead of time. Same thing happened when I ordered a glass of red. It happened to be the second most expensive on the menu. She suggested a glass of the most expensive on the menu as a replacement (at the more expensive price, of course). To her credit, I did get a 'taster'.
We also received some sliced cucumber before the appetizers arrived. Odd taste. Seemed pickled and salty (of course) but had a lingering almost soapy taste. Not good.
The octopus appetizer was good (as noted by other reviewers). The crab/carrot appetizer was pretty boring, although the thuile on top was surprising with a cumin flavor. Both were the most expensive on the menu. Octopus 4.5 out of 5, crab 2 our of 5, but the thuile pushed it to a 3.
The duck was good. The lamb of loin (again, the 2 most expensive on the menu - you get the theme here) was nicely cooked (glad I went for medium vs. the 'rare' that was recommended). As mentioned, the brussels were almost raw. It was one of the reasons to order is (not to get raw sprouts, but because it came with sprouts). It was pretty salty. Our side order of cauliflower puree ($7....) was a standout. The so-called 'crispy' quinoa (also $7) was very disappointing.
The wines we ordered (pouilly fume) and whatever the cab sauv that replaced the one that wasn't available were good but overpriced.
So, overall, a bit disappointing that some of the food was not as advertised and that we weren't told what wasn't on the menu until we started ordering it. Needs to be a better job of flagging that up front, especially at these prices. read more
