First time visiting this restaurant and found it to be quite nice. My wife & I sat at the bar which is first come first serve which was a great idea on a Sunday around noon time as when we sat down there was a line almost to the restaurant rooms which started from the ordering area. With seating at the bar we were served right away by a pleasant women who worked with us our entire stay. We started with the fish dip which was very good. A bit more cream cheese than I normally like but was still very good. Also had the Crab Savannah soup which is like a tomato based she crab soup, excellent!! For our entrees my wife had the Poke' Bowl with seared tuna. Asked for medium rare but got more to a medium color (gray) but the veggies that it came with were fresh, flavorful & crisp! For my self I had the oyster poor boy which was huge! Plenty of oysters and cooked just right. The remoulade sauce had a nice flavor and the veggies also were fresh & crisp. The ambience is more like a warehouse feel but I'm ok with that kind of atmosphere. In talking with our server Sunday's is there busiest day. So, if coming on a Sunday get there early or pack some patience as the food was very good & worth the trip. Thank you for a nice time! We'll be back!! read more

There's a fish market next door and that means two things: 1) the smell of fish in the air is gonna be potent and 2) the seafood is gonna be so fresh. Honestly the first point isn't too bad because the closer you get to the restaurant, the more it smells like cooked seafood which smelled so so good. But the second point is a huge game changer. The quality is sooo good. And you can even treat the restaurant as a way to kind of taste test things before you head on over to the market to shop. read more

I have wanted to try this place for 5 years. We were so disappointed. We sat at the bar for dull service. Well, it seemed the young man working there could not have cared less. We were never greeted and his service was far from what we would call even good. I ordered the fish sandwich, Tilapia she ordered the lobster roll. The fish sandwich was ok nothing to write home about. The lobster roll was terrible. It had no taste and was very dry. She had not planned on saying anything but I said we're sending it back. They were apologetic but the sever had already made the visit not worth the trip from Hastings. Sooo disappointed. read more

I had to try Safe Harbor. I went there on 10/1 for a late lunch. The service was fine and the people were nice. The blackened scallops were excellent, and the hush puppies were tasty. The cole slaw was good, but the serving was small. The french fries were not all that good. But there were plenty of them. It's a very casual place. Just avoid the fries. read more

Amazing fresh fish meals and a great spot to sit by the water and enjoy a relaxing meal. You walk up to the counter, place your order, and then find a seat while your food is freshly prepared. Everything about this place feels refreshing, from the atmosphere to the food. A simple, casual, and really enjoyable waterfront dining experience. read more

Haven't been to Safe Harbor since the remodel. It is nice to have a bar and additional seating where the fresh catch coolers used to be. There was quite a line when we arrived but we took a seat at the bar (FCFS). Service was very fast and attentive. My wife ordered the fried mayport shrimp as nd I ordered the whole fried snapper. Her shrimp were excellent as usual, but my snapper was overcooked. It was still good, but was dry in the thinner areas. All in all a good visit though. read more

Fresh food to the table. The menu was great. I order the Po Boy and it was delicious. Has the shrimp nachos and its flavor profile with a hint of sweetness was a great compliment to the meal. I was surprised that that hush puppies were sweet and moist. It wasn't over cooked. You seat yourself and order at a central area but over all the staff was very polite. It's located near the coast by the naval and coast guard. I love truly enjoyed . The atmosphere of the place gave a family / bar feel. You can come there after the swim and enjoy fresh catch. The dessert were okay. But I truly wish they had the churro cheesecake. Overall I enjoy the places. It was pleasant and I will be back read more

I think I've been eating here since the beginning of time! The food is always so consistently wonderful! It is fresh and the flavor is popping! I let the cashier know that I'm gluten free and he immediately put it on my receipt and they prepared my fish in a totally separate pan. Which I appreciate so much! I opted for the sweet potato fries which is new on their menu and they were so good! Here's the worst part.. they come with hush puppies. I have to tell you these hush puppies are the best tasting ones I've ever had in my entire life but they are not gluten free. I cannot resist them because they are just absolutely amazing. So I end up eating them anyway. Anything I've ever gotten there in the last 20 years has always been good and the scenery is beautiful and it's very relaxing to eat there! read more

Neat little seafood restaurant in Mayport near the St. John's ferry where you'll find the catch of the day and more prepared just as you like it. It's a busy location but well organized and if you're lucky you may just find a spot at the bar where dine-in and take-out orders are processed. We enjoyed quick, clean and kind service here and will definitely be back to try other choices. Casual seafood, but some things lacked a basic flavor profile you'd expect (crab dip- cold and tasteless). Shrimp and redfish were good, but their tarter sauce tasted like just mayo, and the coleslaw was bland as well - neither sweet (which I don't like) nor tart as I would have expected and preferred. The hush puppies were good though. Think I'll try something grilled next time. Nice spot on a lovely spring day. read more

As the name entails Safe Harbor is a watery respite from landlocked troubles. With dried marinara on my back and the red eyes only tears and brackish water can bring, you could guess where I was at in life. I was dehydrated. What Safe Harbor gave me was a glass of cold water, a Shrimp Po Boy, gator tail, conch fritters and shrimp nachoes! It was a king's ransom in terms of quality, grilled and blackened to perfection with a sweet and tangy sauce that's reminiscent of seaside family days where the kids thought dad was still "cool and inspiring." Service was fast and candid too! The clerk was very informative about recommendations and within 15 minutes our food was ready. The ambiance is one of the best I've had with a coastal rustic look that really brings you back. I recommend Safe Harbor a thousand times over this is my new favorite spot! read more

Pretty good food. Crab cakes are excellent. My only suggestion is to monitor the seating a bit. I was in a large group and went for a set of open tables only to have a young lady take ownership of the table once we started to sit down. I avoided an altercation though I wanted to tell her to F off. I had kids though and don't want to subject them to that sort of thing. read more

What a pleasant surprise of a spot. Lots of amazing seafood and they got stonies. It was cold out so I had a "clam chowder" and a shrimp Louie salad. The chowder was the salad was a deconstructed not so great version of a Louie which in my opinion should have the dressing mixed in and be in a bowl but it was served on a tray. Sitting outside is so nice with the fishing boats bringing in their catches of the day. I gotta get back there and try the lobster roll read more

Crab Savannah soup was good. We had fresh local Mayport shrimp here which was really good, they have royal reds from Key West too. Hush puppies were ok. We liked the area it felt like hidden old country Florida. We ordered at the counter and sat outside on the dockside seating area. They have a market across the street to buy seafood to cook at home read more

Definitely this restaurant is not what it used to be. Portions are smaller, shrimp taste was rubbery and fish wasn't fresh. Hush puppies were good. It is always nice to sit down and enjoy the view. Service can be improved, ordering and eating were rushed. This was my favorite restaurant to eat seafood. I traveled from far away just to eat here, sadly that's not the case now. I will not be returning. read more

Good seafood at a good price! Good customer service and I also enjoy the view of outside! Will be returning! :)

Stumbled upon Safe Harbor the other day when Singleton's was closed and I'm so glad we did! We opted to sit at the bar over ordering at the counter. The restaurant itself was clean, bright, decorated with large airbrushed fish on the walls while animal planet played on the TV. The service was good, he gave recommendations and was attentive while we were there. We opted to split two of the specials - mango redfish and mahi reuben. The mango redfish was amazing - blackened to perfection and complimented by the sweet mango & red pepper salsa. read more

We stopped in while visiting JAX. This is the second time we've eaten here. The location has a covered area outside and is pet friendly. That is a must for us since we travel with our pup. I truly enjoyed my Mayport shrimp platter. I got it blackened and it was perfect. They give you a generous portion and I had leftovers. I also got the banana pudding. Unfortunately it was highly disappointing! It was rubbery in texture so I was afraid to eat it. Banana pudding is supposed to be creamy. I got it to go because I was full so I didn't have opportunity to send it back. read more

I was pretty unfamiliar with the Mayport area until a neighbor posted about their wonderful trip online. My wife and I stopped by Mayport to see the area and grab a wonderful lunch at Safe Harbor seafood. We shared a shrimp basket and an oyster basket, sat out back by the waterfront and had a beautiful afternoon! The service was wonderful, and there were many different places to sit - indoor bar side, indoor tables, or outdoor as we selected, which was beautifully shaded on a warm summer afternoon. The views are great, and for those who want to take the ferry and head north towards Amelia Island, this is a wonderful place to stop for a quick bite. For a fun experience and great food with a beautiful view, you can't beat Safe Harbor! read more

My husband suggested we go to this restaurant for lunch today and I'm so glad he did because it was a great idea. It is located in the Mayport area right on the St. John's River. There is usually a line to order at the counter and then they bring your food to your table. They have both indoor and outdoor tables. The outdoor tables overlook the water and the fishing boats. The menu offers various types of seafood, including shrimp, fish, clams, oyster and scallops platters. I opted for the Mayport fried shrimp platter. It came with 12 good sized shrimp, two hushpuppies, Cole slaw and fries. It was really good. My husband had the fried oyster platter and loved his as well. read more

Very fresh seafood. Busy place but line moves fast and service is quick, cooked to order. Got a pound of local shrimp which were good but not great. THE BEST SPOT FOR CATCH OF THE DAY SEAFOOD IN ALL OF JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA. Growing up in south Louisiana, good seafood is my forte & is hard to find. Just about every time I go there's a line outside of the door, which may seem frustrating for some, but it's a good sign for all food lovers. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The ordering style is different than your average restaurant - everyone stands in line places their order, then finds their own table. They also have a seafood market across the street where you can go and buy different things to take home and cook yourself. I took my dad here back when he was still with us, and even though hes deathly allergic to shellfish, they accommodated him & his allergies & he absolutely loved the experience. I would give this place a 10000/10 if I could! read more

Safe Harbor is one of the few seafood restaurants I really want to eat at. I like that I can customize my basket to exactly what I want. This last visit I opted for a clam strip basket with sweet potato fries. I ordered extra hush puppies too, they are the tastiest around. My son had chicken strip and fries and he was very happy with his meal. The service is always friendly and the food is fresh. The wait can be long especially on the weekend. The location is a little far out but it's a beautiful area. The only complaint I have is the portions don't seem to be set in anyway. My sister ordered clam strips, she had about half the amount I did and her's were mostly bits of batter rather than pieces of clam. I think they need to work on this. The crab cake also had shell last time. I understand it's seafood and this happens, but they should really take care to ensure no one breaks a tooth on shell. read more

OUTSTANDING!!! What a great place. Excellent service at the counter. A wide seafood menu that makes you want to pause to try everything on the menu. The Clam Chowder is outstanding and highly recommended; it had a fantastic ratio of clam to potato and was served nice and hot. The blackened scallops were outstanding too and seasoned perfectly. The fried oysters were also good but I think I might try the mango snapper next time. The draft beer selection was perfect and I enjoyed a taste of the ales. Wifey liked the cider that was a combination of apple and key lime. Highest Recommendation. read more

The line wait to give the order was long enough to say that lots of people want to eat here. When our order came (a pick-three platter of calamari, scallops and fried clams) the ONLY thing on the tray that was slightly warmer than room temperature were the French fries. The calamari had turned to rubber by then. It took awhile to get a servers attention to call it out. I'd eaten some by then, gave some to my wife, and was just going to abandon the rest. But the manager came out, and he offered to just take the pick-three off my bill. I was OK with that. read more

We Ordered lobster roll and shrimp platter. No where on menu did it say it was grilled. It was actually overcooked and both the lobster and the roll were black. Wait was 40 minutes from time we ordered and that was after standing in line 25 minutes. I know it was Father's Day and expect it to be busy but should not excuse food to be that bad. Should never have come to the table like that. Conch fritters were tasty but very little conch. Fries were cold and undercooked! Bad experience! Would not recommend or return! read more
