With dried marinara on my back and the red eyes only tears and brackish water can bring, you could guess where I was at in life. I was dehydrated. What Safe Harbor gave me was a glass of cold water, a Shrimp Po Boy, gator tail, conch fritters and shrimp nachoes! It was a king's ransom in terms of quality, grilled and blackened to perfection with a sweet and tangy sauce that's reminiscent of seaside family days where the kids thought dad was still "cool and inspiring." Service was fast and candid too! The clerk was very informative about recommendations and within 15 minutes our food was ready. Haven't been to Safe Harbor since the remodel. It is nice to have a bar and additional seating where the fresh catch coolers used to be. There was quite a line when we arrived but we took a seat at the bar (FCFS). Service was very fast and attentive. My wife ordered the fried mayport shrimp as nd I ordered the whole fried snapper. Her shrimp were excellent as usual, but my snapper was overcooked. It was still good, but was dry in the thinner areas. All in all a good visit though. read more

Shrimp and redfish were good, but their tarter sauce tasted like just mayo, and the coleslaw was bland as well - neither sweet (which I don't like) nor tart as I would have expected and preferred. I think I've been eating here since the beginning of time! The food is always so consistently wonderful! It is fresh and the flavor is popping! I let the cashier know that I'm gluten free and he immediately put it on my receipt and they prepared my fish in a totally separate pan. Which I appreciate so much! I opted for the sweet potato fries which is new on their menu and they were so good! Here's the worst part.. they come with hush puppies. I have to tell you these hush puppies are the best tasting ones I've ever had in my entire life but they are not gluten free. I cannot resist them because they are just absolutely amazing. I have wanted to try this place for 5 years. We were so disappointed. We sat at the bar for dull service. Well, it seemed the young man working there could not have cared less. We were never greeted and his service was far from what we would call even good. I ordered the fish sandwich, Tilapia she ordered the lobster roll. My wife and I stopped by Mayport to see the area and grab a wonderful lunch at Safe Harbor seafood. We shared a shrimp basket and an oyster basket, sat out back by the waterfront and had a beautiful afternoon! The service was wonderful, and there were many different places to sit - indoor bar side, indoor tables, or outdoor as we selected, which was beautifully shaded on a warm summer afternoon. The views are great, and for those who want to take the ferry and head north towards Amelia Island, this is a wonderful place to stop for a quick bite. There is usually a line to order at the counter and then they bring your food to your table. They have both indoor and outdoor tables. The outdoor tables overlook the water and the fishing boats. The menu offers various types of seafood, including shrimp, fish, clams, oyster and scallops platters. I opted for the Mayport fried shrimp platter. The ordering style is different than your average restaurant - everyone stands in line places their order, then finds their own table. They also have a seafood market across the street where you can go and buy different things to take home and cook yourself. I took my dad here back when he was still with us, and even though hes deathly allergic to shellfish, they accommodated him & his allergies & he absolutely loved the experience. The line wait to give the order was long enough to say that lots of people want to eat here. When our order came (a pick-three platter of calamari, scallops and fried clams) the ONLY thing on the tray that was slightly warmer than room temperature were the French fries. The calamari had turned to rubber by then. It took awhile to get a servers attention to call it out. I'd eaten some by then, gave some to my wife, and was just going to abandon the rest. But the manager came out, and he offered to just take the pick-three off my bill. I was OK with that. read more

Safe Harbor is one of the few seafood restaurants I really want to eat at. I like that I can customize my basket to exactly what I want. This last visit I opted for a clam strip basket with sweet potato fries. I ordered extra hush puppies too, they are the tastiest around. My son had chicken strip and fries and he was very happy with his meal. The service is always friendly and the food is fresh. The wait can be long especially on the weekend. The location is a little far out but it's a beautiful area. The only complaint I have is the portions don't seem to be set in anyway. My sister ordered clam strips, she had about half the amount I did and her's were mostly bits of batter rather than pieces of clam. I think they need to work on this. The crab cake also had shell last time. I understand it's seafood and this happens, but they should really take care to ensure no one breaks a tooth on shell. read more

This is a late review but we went here during game weekend early November. I am a big lover of seafood and this did not disappoint. We got there around 3 and it was packed so we ended up sitting on the dock. It was quite sunny but not unbearable. Food was really prompt. You order at a register and take a pager number to a table of your picking after stopping by the drink counter. Like I said it was game weekend and so packed so we sat under no coverage but really enjoyed the view of the water and people coming in and out on their boats. We gave us clams strips by mistake instead of calamari and then brought us the calamari as well so we were loaded with food. Everything was really well seasoned and fresh. It was my Mom's birthday and she wanted to come here to eat. We had tried to come here in the past and didn't do our research, hence the line out the door at that time. I got the Pick 3 Combo with Grilled Shrimp, Grilled Scallops, Fried Oysters, and fries and coleslaw. She got the Pick 2 Combo with Grilled Shrimp and Grilled Scallops with fries and coleslaw. The shrimp and scallops were good however they were salty and salty like they had added salt to them. Oysters were great. The hush puppies were really good and that was surprising. They weren't as sweet as ones from the other places and the cornbread tasted like actual corn and bread. After I ate all of the seafood, hush pups, most of the fries and my drink. I was full and satisfied. Mom liked her food just as it was. We also got a lemon blueberry cake slice and a chocolate cake slice, mine and hers. I was surprised that these were really good!
