Every bite was heavenly. This rivals the octopus dish at Townhall, which I get every single time we visit. A+: Beet salad. A classic. A-: Grilled red snapper. We loved the snapper, but did not like the roasted red pepper and celery relish. A++++: Quinoa side. I don't know what quantity of high grade crack was mixed in, but this simple looking dish was magnificent. I still can't get over it. Pairs well with the snapper. A+: Brioche dessert. Goodness! Went last night. Excellent decor. Felt very appropriate for the coastal living. Pale, white, clean lines with a hint of blue. Very intimate space and just a 30 second walk to the beach and other downtown amenities. Between our group we ordered the burrata and octopus for apps (octopus adored by all so tender) and the snapper, duck and scallop entree. We were all happy and thought it was delicious and very fresh. Beautiful and pretty presentations. The scallop entree wasn't warm when brought to the table which was noted by all. Intimate chef-owned restaurant in the heart of Neptune Beach. Great area to walk around before or after dinner. Definitely make a reservation but if you didn't, see if there's a spot at the bar. Watch the magic happen as Chef prepares appetizers with the view of the full kitchen just behind. The menu was made to build. The burrata is fantastic! I'm a fan of small portions with perfectly pretty plating, and Doro does this with every dish. Everything looks like art you can eat. It's obviously all well thought out as to what flavors mix and what the final product will look like presented. Each time I've gone I've tried at least four different dishes, and have been happy with all of them. My favorite spot to sit is the chef's table, which is first come, first serve. It's like a live menu preview, often influencing my dinner choices as yummy things catch my eye. I love that they bring you a little plate of pickled cucumbers as a starter. It's different than the usual breadbasket and sets the tone that this is going to be a fresh and unique flavor experience. The menu has been slightly different every time I've dined there, with some new, some old and some similar dishes with a new twist. I highly recommend any of the crudo dishes. Every one of those has been wonderful. And the dish I've ordered several times is the pork schnitzel appetizer. Since I've focused mostly on the apps, I haven't tried many of the full entree selections, but I've seen many of them go by at the chef's table! I'd sample every one if I could. I recommend getting reservations if it is a busy weekend night. It's a small place and they book up fast. They don't take reservations for the chef's table unless it's a special occasion (like Valentines Day) but it's pretty open on a week night like a random Tuesday when I first visited. There is a scene in the classic movie, "The Blues Brothers" where the Reverend Cleophus James asks Jake and Elwood Blues if they see the light. "DO YOU SEE THE LIGHT?" They do indeed see the light. The Blues Brothers get the band back together, put on a tremendous concert and save the orphanage! Why do I bring up this classic movie in a restaurant review? Because I too saw the light. The light of some great food at Doro. My wife and I had talked about this restaurant for some time. That we wanted to try it. But for one reason or another we had delayed our visit. I'm quite sorry that we did. And we will definitely be back. First, the location. It's small. That should not be taken as a negative, but be aware that there aren't a lot of tables, so a reservation is basically a must. Second, the staff is amazingly friendly and accommodating. At first we were put at a regular table, but when we saw that two seats opened at the bar/counter we asked to move (we love to watch food being prepared). No problem! Moved us immediately. So, new spot secured, we dove into the menu. For the first course, we had the charred octopus and the yellowtail tartare. The problem? We couldn't decide which one was better! My wife exclaimed, "this is hands down the best octopus I've ever tasted!" High praise indeed. The addition of the olives and peppers creates a great contrast of sweet and salty to go with the octopus. The yellowtail was an amazing combination of flavors and textures. They put pumpkin seeds in it! If you like raw fish, try the yellowtail. Main course? She had the crispy short ribs and I had the fresh catch (sole). Needless to say, both were also fabulous. I've never tasted short ribs prepared this way, but the crispy exterior really works well with the tender meat. And the fish was melt in your mouth good with a sweet apple purée underneath. Each was simply fantastic. For dessert we had both the pot de creme and the home made vanilla ice cream. We argued again over which was better. Who won? We both did! Truly this was one of the best meals we have had in Jacksonville. So please. Please. Get your own band together, jump in your blues mobile and get to Doro. You will not be sorry! read more

Went there for Valentines. My son and daughter in law really liked it so we gave it a chance. Overall, I really like Doro. Quaint , good tasting food, very good service and our waitress Michelle was awesome. Friendly. We were served timely . My ribeye was excellent. My wife had the surf and turf and thought it was very good. We had the pork schnitzel for our app , which was nice. Wine was smooth and the house she brought us were not the most expensive on the menu, but in fact the least. The dessert was good, but not as good as the entrees. Constructive thoughts : small, but perhaps more tight than cozy unless it is not full. Very loud. Got to have some bread to serve , especially since the sauces are so good. The food here is truly tantalizing! From the pistachio soup as our starter such a smooth creamy texture that awakens your taste buds. For the main we had the grilled ribeye and the roast lamb, both were perfectly cooked to our specifications medium. The flavor profile for the steak was wonderful and the pairing of garlic green beans was perfect. The lamb flavor was without flaw and the addition of the spinach and cheddar quiche and leek paired wonderfully. Wine selection was minimal, but in this case it was a good thing since there was not a bad bottle on the list. We selected a Russian river pinot noir that was just to our liking. Overall the food deserves a 5 by far unfortunately this is a full review and other aspects come into the dining experience. The dining room is very small so of course it is very loud. Again eating out tends to get loud so not all that disparaging. The one thing that frustrates me the most is the ventilation for the kitchen. Everything that was being made filled the dining room and created a stuffy environment. I do not like writing this review since the food as I stated was superbly excellent. I honestly wish the dining room matched the food. Overall wonder flavors throughout the menu great creativity with exceptionally well thought out food. This was our first visit to Doro. I was asking my girlfriend to marry me that night (not at Doro, but later that night), so I wanted to pick some place special. Doro did not disappoint. The place is small, so make a reservation if you can. It's beautiful and clean. Modern and calming. It's a very upscale vibe, but inviting at the same time. We started with charred octopus which was wonderful. Then I had the duck breast which was cooked perfectly medium rare. My (now) fiancé had the scallops. Now... Taverna in San Marco has long served my favorite scallops in town. However... Doro *may* have topped them. The scallops were so perfectly cooks and buttery. So good! The duck was tender and seasoned perfect. The fat was rendered down nicely and flavorful. They also have a small but great wine selection and our choices didn't disappoint. Our weight was fantastic. He realized I like to cook and was a foodie and while my fiancé was in the bathroom came over to talk to me about the preparation. He was well educated about how the food was prepared. As a frequent diner, we wanted to try and show support. Some foods and how they are prepared just don't lend themselves to carry out. The pistachio soup was delicious as always. The pork schnitzel was pretty crispy but was sitting in the vegetable salad garnish and was soggy in places. Perhaps separate packing would have helped. The Lamb loin was very good. Not so easy to reheat as it came (like the schnitzel) in a paper box. I get it if the choice was to use a more sustainable container- just not ideal. Made allowances by eating room temp food. So glad to have discovered this restaurant as part of Yelp Restaurant Week 2018! I love the beachy yet sophisticated interior design of the restaurant. It's a small place so good for a cozy dinner. All the dishes we tried were amazing, with the exception of the scallops. The scallops were heavily covered with a cilantro orange marmalade that was overly citrusy and overwhelmed the dish. However, the charred octopus appetizer and duck breast were delicious! I especially loved the cauliflower puree - super creamy, like a very smooth pudding, and so much flavor. I pretty much finished that side by myself. We had the pistachio pavlova for dessert and I loved how light and sweet it was. Again, I ate most of this myself haha. Doro is really pushing the boundaries of high end New American dining in Neptune Beach. They are the only restaurant around taking these kind of risks and serving avant-garde style food. The restaurant is smallish but maximizes the space for seating. They have an open kitchen with the garde manger station out in front. If you sit at the bar you will have the opportunity to watch the chef prepare some of your dishes. The restaurant only offers beer and wine. I am not sure if this is temporary or something they plan to change in the future. This would have to be my only negative about the restaurant, when dining like this I enjoy starting with a cocktail or finishing with a drink. Dinner was very good from the tartare and salad to the veal and fish. Everything was played nicely and tasted great. They Lost this Customer Christmas Eve. Excited to bring my sis and husband to Doro where I've had great food experiences. She ordered the Chicken Milanese. I had grouper and my husband had duck. My sister took one bite of her chicken and said "it's undercooked." My husband had a bite and agreed. We flagged down our server and let her know. My sister decided to replace her dinner with the grouper to avoid the chicken again. My husband and I waited to finish our dinners. However, after 15 minutes, her meal was still not served, so we finished our entrees. Finally, the grouper arrived and my sister said it was delicious. We waited as she finished dinner (and my wine glass remained empty, no one asked if I wanted another glass). The bill came - no accommodation for undercooked chicken. No apology from the kitchen, no " we'll pick up your two glasses of wine", nothing. I asked to speak to the owner/manager about our experience. He was very defensive and said his kitchen tasted the chicken and it was perfect. Maybe - if you're not worried about salmonella. Sorry Dora, but when I'm spending over $200 for dinner that turns disappointing due to the food prep and time spent waiting, whether you agreed or not, even an apology would have gone a long way. The meal, coupled the intermittent smell of sewer odor that we've smelled there on more than one occasion - Sorry we won't be back ( and from the owner's attitude, he won't care) but we'll spend our local dollars elsewhere. read more

There was a strange smell (like hot very old dirty dish water, musty) I do not see any reviews mention it so maybe it was just that day, I'm not sure. The food however was delicious. Went here last night. It was a Friday, the restaurant was busy or maybe it just looked that way because it isn't a really big space. It is a modestly sized dining room, some people would use the word intimate, but because of the noise level I am not sure that word is appropriate. To be honest, what drew us in was the decor. The dining area photographs very well, that's why I didn't include any of those photos in my review, I wanted to focus on the food. The food is indeed excellent. We had the pistachio soup and the schnitzel to start followed by the duck and the crispy short ribs for course 2. I will say all of it was great, though the pistachio soup was a new one for me- it wasn't amazing but My pallet appreciates new flavors - and though pistachio is familiar, I have never had it as a soup.... I think that the best thing we had was the short ribs. Very crispy with a sweet sauce, it was a very tasty dish. Like, it was 9 on my delicious scale. What the meal missed was intimacy and the portions were a bit small. Where we were sat against the back wall on a bench seat we were shoulder to shoulder with other guests - I could hear everything everyone was talking about. McDonalds is more "intimate". On the other hand, the dishes were well executed and the service was excellent though the portions were small. I gave this restaurant 4 stars because for the money in the area, there are better options. Our bill was just shy of 100 for two entrees and two appetizers. I felt like the lack of intimacy and the relatively small portions, one could easily go to Mesa Luna or One Ocean and find a better value and atmosphere. This restaurant "could" be great with some small fixes and I will be back to check them out in the future. read more

Restaurant Doro, where do I even begin? I dined here with my family for my graduation dinner and it could not have been a more precious spot to spend the evening. Since the restaurant is petite and intimate, reservations in advance are best advised. We had a rather large party and dined in on a Friday evening so of course we reserved the tables. The staff here was of the utmost care and sincerity for our overall experience. This restaurant is beer and wine only , but honestly what more could you want with such extraordinary wine options such as these? My personal favorite red wine is The Chocolate Block. Oh and that is by the bottle, there is not such thing of just having a glass of the smooth South African wine( it's wayyy too good). There are a large variety of wines by the glass that can satisfy your deepest cravings (of wine). Anyhow, enough about the wine, this restaurant is a 1st, 2nd, and dessert course type of place where the Chefs bring out your meal in a timely order. For the first course I highly suggest the pork schnitzel, I honestly see no point in describing to you the details other than telling you that you MUST try this. If you want a more seafood based first course I highly suggest the "crudo of the day" that is one of my other favorites. As for second course options they have a wide selection of high quality meat options as well as veggie/vegan options for those friends in your group. I personally am a hardcore steak lover so I naturally I ordered the rib eye which comes with kale and garlic. I am from Texas and have had many 5 star steaks in my day but here at Doro this rib eye made the list of one of the best steaks I have ever eaten( in no way exaggerating ). Now honestly, if you spend your date night or family time here you must save room for one of their homemade desserts. Having a large party of 12 in our group we all had very different desserts and they were all splendid. It really just depends on your taste buds and mood of the evening . As a highly dedicated chocolate lover I went with the simple but darn good pot di creme . But either way, you really can't go wrong ! And if you get the chance, take the time to get to the know the chef, he is primarily there. The staff was all so kind to my family and I. Sincerity in a business truly matters. I actually give them 4.5, from the time I called to see if they had openings, Logan said I could probably sit at the bar very nice, very professional, we got there before they opened and there's already a short line, We were able to get a seat at the bar, there are only six seats I believe, with a post that could be in your way, so get there early if you don't make reservations. We started off with beers in a nice cold glass! A small but amazing detail lost these days, a couple small plates the Romaine salad, and the Jonah crab, really good our server was Francis, everybody was nice and professional. The lamb tenderloin is what I had for dinner, probably one of the best meals of my life except for the broccolini that was mush. My wife had the snapper. Not terrible, but not noteworthy. It was also tiny portions. The menu itself was also very small and didn't leave us with tons of options. The staff were friendly but they seemed understaffed so, although there were no disasters, everything moved slowly. At the end of the day, we won't be back. It was recommended to us from some family members. Every course was so nicely presented, and the desserts were to die for! The service was great as well.
