Went to Dorn's this time for breakfast. Lots of people, but we got a table right away on a Saturday, with a nice few of the bay. Justine was our server, nice and friendly. I believe she also had tables further away, as we didn't see much of her. For some reason, I decided to get the pancakes, they sounded good and they were. They give you enough syrup, as some places do not. I also ordered a side of bacon, 4 pcs and I ate 2 and they were pretty good. I have some nice leftovers. The coffee was OK, I hate small mugs. My husband had the Linguica omelette with pepper jack cheese. He thought there was too much bell pepper, not enough eggs and linguica. He got his choice of fruit, potatoes, pancakes, toast or muffin, he chose fruit. used the bathroom, it was cute and nice and clean. I also noticed a grab bar, that's good for individuals that need it.
The restaurant is very cozy modern old feel. Great atmosphere and convenient to so many hotels. We didn't have reservations on a Thursday night and was seated rather quickly. Our server Deedee was bubbly and sweet. She was very personable. I will start this review by bullet pointing to show why I only gave it 3 stars: *The medium rare steak came out well... Even our server mentioned that she told the kitchen team the steak looked overcooked. They still brought it ou times overcooked. *The other two steaks still had some pink but not the medium rare that we are used to. They were salty but I was starving! *The lobster was a bit overcooked so it was rubbery. *They got our orders wrong on two dishes in addition to the dessert. *The chocolate cake was as dry as can be. *We asked for a creme brulee and they brought us a berry cobbler. The reason why we gave 3 stars and not two is because Deedee was just so darn sweet! Other dishes that tasted yum yums! *The scallops were yummy. The lemon caper sauce was really zesty and perfect for the scallops. *The Nancy Salad was extremely yummy. Crisp, fresh and balanced with bleu cheese, bacon, avocado and a creamy dressing. *The AHI was good but the sesame crust was just too much. It overpowered the delicate ahi taste. We want to try their breakfast, since they said their pancakes are supposed to be amazing. Let me see if I can convince the fam to give them another shot.
This is always a favorite restaurant for my husband and I to come to when we come tomorrow Bay. Typically, we'll stop here and do brunch. We can sit outside with our little dog in spend our time walking around the shops. We came today because we just wanted to get away for a little while and enjoy ourselves. There is a line waiting. That's not unexpected. Doran's is a fan favorite. The good news is you can get a drink and wait right by the restaurant and not have any problems. So it makes the waiting go a lot faster. After about 30 minutes we were sat outside and our waitress came and we chatted and gave our order. I was bummed they forgot my puppies chicken breast. It finally came, but only after we had fed her most of our bacon because we figured her chicken wasn't coming. Bummer. That being said, our meals came out and they were just fine. My husband's bloody Mary's were fine. Matter fact you were back for a second. Everyone here was having a good time and enjoying ourselves. To the restaurant, please make sure your bacon is cooked. Halfway cooked bacon is not edible. Unfortunately, the Waitress is running so fast. It was hard to get a hold of her anyhow, will be back again. It wasn't our favorite experience. We've had wonderful enough experiences that we know this was just an off day.
Eating at Dorn's is like meeting up with an old friend! The other day. I was doing both, since I was meeting my friend and having a fun birthday lunch! We got a cute table with a good view of the bay and it was a beautiful sunny day so the door was open. We each have our favorites here! My friend got the Caesar salad with grilled salmon on top. I usually like the Caesar with blackened salmon, but I chose the shrimp tacos because I had not had them there before. We sipped our Diet Cokes and admired the view while I opened my presents and admired the beautiful roses she had brought for me. The food came out quickly. There was delicious warm sourdough bread to accompany the salad. The salmon on the Caesar was grilled to perfection. My shrimp tacos were a little spicy for me, even though I got the smoked chipotle sauce on the side, but the tortilla itself tamed the heat a bit. We enjoyed the beautiful day in this lovely location. It wasn't crowded for 1 o'clock lunch now that tourist season is over. Dorn's doesn't take reservations, so it's always a little iffy if you go right at peak times. We caught up on all our recent activities and when the waitress asked what the roses were for, I said it was my birthday! Before I could turn around, she brought back a beautiful chocolate mousse with whipped cream on a tray that said happy birthday! Dorn's is a wonderful festive place to have a special occasion meal! It will remain one of my favorite places in Morro Bay!
Dorn's Café has been a part of my life for over 30 years, and that kind of consistency is truly special. What I love most is that some things never change -- the pancakes taste exactly the same as they always have, and they're the must-order every single time. Comfort food at its best. The staff has always been friendly, welcoming, and genuinely kind, which keeps us coming back year after year. It's also one of the most kid-friendly spots in Morro Bay, making it easy to enjoy a relaxed meal with little ones. What makes Dorn's really meaningful to me, though, is the memories. I was so lucky to come here with my grandma for years, and now I get to sit with my own kids, keeping her memory alive while we eat pancakes and admire Morro Rock. That full-circle feeling is priceless. Dorn's isn't just a restaurant -- it's tradition, comfort, and memories that last a lifetime.
Stopped by Dorn's for coffee and pancakes with my boyfriend. Probably the best pancakes I've ever had! Soooo fluffy and topped with whipped butter. We had a last minute surprise cocktail after one of our friends highly encouraged (wink wink!). Never day no to a morning cocktail. By the way, the new bar is gorgeous! I highly recommend you try the dirty martini . Can't wait to return. We had a great time and loved the service.
Went in and had an amazing lunch. The sour dough bread arrived to the table super hot and full of flavor. The butter was also extra special. If I could eat only one thing for the rest of my life this would make the top ten list of things for me to contemplate. I had the swordfish blackened and with fries. It was good but nothing spectacular. Don't get me wrong when I only say good. I felt the blackened season could have used a little more kick in spice. Reverting back to my opening of the sourdough bread nothing else matters. My wife had the clam chowder that I would say was better than good, it was great. Her side salad was crisp and the dressing was spectacular. Their ranch hits a little different and different in a good way.
I ordered the corned beef has with a Sunnyside up egg. There wasn't much to eat but it certainly was tasty. I just wish it was more of cane with more on the plate. My cousins girlfriend ordered the Waffles with apples on top and hers was REALLY GOOD. I'd go back but I wouldn't order the corned beef hash.
This restaurant was the perfect place to celebrate our friend's 7th wedding anniversary on a warm clear evening with an amazing sunset view of Morro Rock. Street parking was available, so we walked through the well stocked bar to indoor and outdoor tables overlooking the waterfront. We all enjoyed our meals. You can choose whether you want your fish blackened, grilled, or sauteed. My blackened salmon spinach salad was perfectly prepared. Service was over the top friendly and professional. Our friends were impressed with their complementary dessert, with 'happy anniversary' wriiten in chocolate. The restaurant made it a memorable celebration.
Decided to try Dorn's since it was near our hotel. The decor was really nice, especially all the decorative details, including the penny tiling floors & wood trim. We went on a Sunday, so my husband got the eggs Benedict. He really liked the thick cut of ham & chose the country potatoes, which he said were crispy on the outside with a good seasoning. I got the linguiça omelette but asked for it to be scrambled. So glad I did! It had a lot of ingredients so I'm glad it was all mixed together. I got the hash browns & rye toast. The hash browns were nice & crispy & their rye bread was outstanding. We had to box up a good amount because the portions were big. We both also got coffees which tasted really good. My husband drinks his coffee black & he says it's a really smooth and not bitter coffee. In all, we paid about $60.
All I heard was this place has 80 year old clam chowder and I headed on over! It's the cutest little restaurant at the top of the stairs with amazing views! As a family all together we tried the Bloody Mary and mimosa, shrimp cocktail, sourdough and butter, clam chowder, oysters, corned beef hash with scrambled eggs and potatoes, and finally buckwheat pancakes(gluten free)! Boy oh boy that fresh HOT homemade baked sourdough and butter was the best thing I've had all dang week! IM MISSING IT AS I TYPE THIS! The clam chowder was delicious but it didn't taste too unique which is what I was expecting but nonetheless wonderful! The corned beef was cooked to perfection and the pancakes were sweet and had a perfect texture! I wish the Bloody Mary came in a tall glass though! We waited about 30 minutes and got seated, there's an antique store 1 block up that you can visit while you wait! I would check this place out if you're in town!
I'm giving one star for the friendly staff, and one star for the Mimosa, (even though it took 20 min. to get it after seated). We were really hyped after carefully selecting an "awesome" breakfast spot, and loved the story behind the restaurant. However, breakfast played a big part. We both ate most of our breakfast, as we were starving. I ordered the corned beef hash; my country potatoes were bland, no flavor, and not cooked consistently, the hash itself was plain, lacking flavor and texture, and my eggs were over hard, when I ordered sunny side up. Disappointing at best. My daughter ordered a scramble; her scrambled eggs were cooked perfectly, the bacon was great, but the hash browns were bland and not close to cooked enough. The sourdough toast was good. A first and probably last for us. The view from where we sat outside was outstanding.

Excellent dining experience!! Everything was great, food, service, dining atmosphere. We had a group of five, no wait time and we were seated with beautiful ocean view. I decided on the special, the three fish taco combo with rice, good choice, the tacos were very good and the presentation was lovely. We decided on dessert, I shared the chocolate mousse with my husband, that was very tasty! Great dining experience!! read more

My family and I have had consistently exceptional experiences at Dorn's over many decades. We go for the amazing clam chowder and scrumptious, sourdough bread, basket and butter, but always find something new to try as well. I had the grilled vegetable sandwich which came with a generous portion of delicious fries. The sandwich was a good size and filled with delectable vegetables served on sourdough. One member of our party had the oysters and said they were some of the best she'd ever had. The service was beyond compared, and we had a magnificent view of the bay from our indoor table. The dining room was comfortable, except for one large party that was a little loud from time to time; oops, I think that was us! We tried to keep it down though. We never miss a trip to Dorn's on our an annual pilgrimage to Morro Bay and if you have not tried it, or if it has been a while, I encourage you to give it a shot. I can't imagine you could find any place better. read more

We stopped by Dorns after a morning cruise through Morro Bay and I gotta say, it was such a good call. The whole place has that classic diner charm but elevated, with a clean and cozy vibe inside and a view of the water that really seals the deal. The fog was rolling in heavy that morning but it kind of made the experience feel even more relaxing and peaceful. We sat in a booth with big windows looking out toward the water which was perfect. I ended up ordering the eggs of your choice breakfast with scrambled eggs, hashbrowns, and sausage. Let me tell you the sausage was the standout. I still don't know what kind it was but it had that perfect crisp on the outside and was juicy, salty, and packed with flavor. The hashbrowns were golden and had that nice crunch too. I also got a cup of clam chowder on the server's recommendation and that stuff was legit. Super creamy and smooth with nice chunks of clam. It tasted really fresh like they had just made it that morning. My wife ordered what I think was a potato soup and even though we weren't familiar with it it was actually really good. The bread and butter that came out was solid and the blueberry muffin was warm and fluffy and definitely homemade. Service was really sweet and laid back which made the whole experience that much better. Only downside was having to keep checking on our dog in the car since the marine layer kept things chilly but the staff was really kind and accommodating. Highly recommend Dorns if you're in Morro Bay. The food hits, the view is great, and you can tell this spot has been doing things right for a long time. read more

Nice, clean, extremely good team work by the wait staff, food runners, bussboys. Loved the tile floors, nice clean , professional ambiance. The food was very good, matter of fact we almost went twice on the same day, also, the dinner wait was too long for us. (Good for them). When on Morrow bay, we will definitely be back. We went for breakfast, my wife and I both had the seafood omelet, different style potatoes, she had house, I had hash browns. My daughter had bagel and lox (alot of lox), the cream cheese could have been slightly more., pancakes shared by 3., the jam was awesome chunky with fruit. (I did have to ask for refills on my coffee) which I hate to do, however it was slow... coming from our middle aged wait person, I'm sure she was busy, but the team picked up the slack. read more
Place was gorgeous, very upscale restaurant and seems to be more fine dining. The people I was with have never tried this place and neither have I so why not right? The restaurant has a beautiful view of the ocean and Morro rock, I loved the seating and decor. I did order clam chowder bowl and it was okay. I really wish it had potatoes in it, definitely need more clams and I wish it was on the thicker side. The server came by one time to see if we needed anything and that was it. I was really hoping to have better service since it looks like a 5 star restaurant. It wasn't busy to where she couldn't have checked on us more. Would have been nice to have a refill of water, maybe another beer. Shoot ask us if we wanted dessert. I hate bringing race into it but we were what seemed like the only Hispanics in there. I'm sure people love this place I just know I'd rather stick to the galley. read more

Cute town. Typically coastal spot with eclectic-type shops and beautiful water views. The bay makes it special, along with watching the playful seals. We were there on a Thursday evening --not much going on. Quiet. Dorn's was constantly busy but got a table right away. Partial view. It was a 20 min wait for a view, which wasn't bad. Waitress was nice and the drinks were made well. The views are what draws you here. Not necessarily the food. We started with potato leek soup and artichokes but didn't realize the chokes were fried. Missed that on the menu. The soup was flavorful. Definitely on the thicker side, but good. The artichokes were jarred and pickled flavored, which I didn't like. The crust was firm not mushy. But overall, Not what we expected and would not order again. We both ordered the swordfish which was broiled. We liked the flavor and the beans were cooked with a crisp snap to them. Not much on the plate except fish and beans but overall was decent enough. Not a WOW factor but tasty. Simple flavors. read more

The food was AMAZING! Me and my husband came for breakfast and it was delicious. It's a popular location, so we had a little wait, but we were seated quickly and our server was attentive and kind! The place is comfortable and clean. My husband ordered the Harry's Special Scramble and I ordered the Huevos Rancheros which are only offered during the weekend. Delicious! read more
So the wife and I visited morrow bay and we decided to stop by for lunch. We both got the zuchini sticks for an appetizer which were nice and crispy. For the main dish we got the Cesar salad with blackened salmon which had fresh lettuce and the salmon was cooked to perfection. Only downside was they ran out of croutons so our salads were incomplete on that end. To drink we got Arnold Palmers which were mixed perfectly and we got a margarita along with a White Russian cocktail drink. Service was great and we loved that it was pet friendly. We were in town visiting my grandparents and wanted to go somewhere good for my brother's birthday. They had mentioned Dorn's but were worried we'd have to wait a long time to get a table. We decided to go at 4:30pm but were pleasantly surprised to get a table right away, considering it was a Sunday of a holiday weekend. We were seated at the window which was really nice--the views are beautiful and we were lucky enough to be there through sunset. For food, we were fully obsessed with the warm sourdough bread & butter. Seriously I could have eaten just that. I got a cup of clam chowder because we were told it was legendary and it really was: perfectly creamy and lots of clams. Honestly I should have stopped there, but I was craving fish so went with the halibut, mashed potatoes and veggies. The fish was slightly overcooked and I felt like the mashed potatoes could have been creamier. But all in all it was good and I just think I would go with a different entree next time. read more

Wow, we had the most amazing dinner at Dorn's! To begin with the staff were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Next they were quickly able to configure the seating for a party of 7 with an electric wheelchair. Third the food was fantastic and the serving size huge. No one left hungry. The best meal we have had in years. We will be back next year when we visit Morro Bay again. read more

Oh Dorns. Food was not good last night. I ordered the chicken piccata which I have ordered several times before but last night it was so dry and the top of it was like hard crust. Also, I asked what the vegetable was and I was told green beans, but I was not told that the green beans contain mushrooms and I cannot eat mushrooms. Also the salad was overdressed on the bottom so all the lettuce was sopped up and stuck to the plate. It's such a shame because Dorns is always our go to place, but last night, my food was barely edible. Such a shame. read more

Had a wonderful breakfast with my kids for our Saturday Brunch! The eggs Benedict was delicious and the kids devoured their French toast and pancakes. Visited here as it was one of the only places open at 745pm for dinner. Had a 25 minute wait as the amount of people coming here was steady. We got an indoor seat along the windows. We got bread, menus and water and then waited 20 minutes to get our order taken. I got my beer and still had to wait to submit our food order. I noticed other people were getting more attentive service around us. We finally got a different waitress, thank goodness, to attend to us and finally ordered our food. Wife ordered the fried prawns which were delicious. The breading was barely tasted and added immensely to the great flavor. I had the Dungeness Crab cocktail which was okay. Thought about returning for breakfast but the evening experience may have put a damper on returning and I wanted to patronize a different restaurant while here. read more

Such a fantastic resturant. Had a great meal with friends. The bartender Taylor put us out on the balcony so we could watch the World Series. She is such a gem. Some of the best bloody mary's in town! The food was supreme. The only draw back was the steak was a bit overcooked. But the rest of the meal was superb. Always get the clam chowder. Ive never had better then this place. read more

A community staple for years, breakfast here consistently awesome. I always opt for some Buckwheat pancakes- (if you know, you know). Seems like everyone is always ordering Bloody Mary's and Mimosa's; however, I haven't had one yet. The omelets are great, and I often go for the linguica and eggs. The huevos rancheros are huge and come with fresh fruit! Highly recommend...especially since they throw in such a great view for free! If you're lucky, you can sit in the patio Oceanside . read more

Second time here! Both times were amazing. This time I had the fish with curry sauce. OMG...the curry was the best. It wasn't spicy. Instead it was yummy, well balanced in flavor and something that I wanted more. My wife ordered the macadamia crusted fish. The fish was soft and tender and well seasoned rhetorical macadamia was fresh and added a wonderful texture. We sat by the window so we had a great view of the main strip and Morro rock. Our server was also exceptional. She was friendly, and attentive. There was if odd-street and in street parking so we literally walked one minute. We highly recommend! read more

I originally loved this place when I came last year, couldn't wait to come back. Sadly the food was not very enjoyable. The omelette was very thin for the amount of toppings inside and the potatoes didn't taste pan fried like stated they tasted straight boiled. Sourdough toast amazing though. read more

Get ready, it's not a good review. Food sadly was very disappointing. We look forward to coming to Morro Bay almost yearly, and having breakfast at Dorn's. But haven't been for about 2 years. The food used to be better than average in a nice restaurant with friendly help. Today it was just bad. Service not polite or attentive. Ambiance is still nice. This was my wife's birthday breakfast she was so looking forward to. She received a pathetic excuse for an omelette. My hash browns were badly burned. I mean completely solid black on the bottom when I turned them over. I don't see any half respectable cook placing that mess on a customer's plate. And then why would the waitress even deliver it??? I asked that they be replaced, and didn't even get an apology. Sooo disappointing. If this is the new Dorn's, I'm done, and they are too! read more

Really enjoy this place - and the views are just magnificent! They have an extensive outdoor dining area where you can enjoy breathtaking views of Morro bay rock and the rest of Morro Bay. The service is always great and everyone is super friendly and hospitable! Their clam chowder is delicious and one of the best I've ever had! The bread and butter is also delicious and comes out nice and warm (just like it's meant to be!). For entrees, we ordered the chicken piccata and the scallop sautee. The chicken was a little overcooked and the scallop sautee was pretty basic, so I'd overall I'd give Dorn's 4 vs 5 stars. We will definitely come back again soon to try more on the menu though so I will report back accordingly. Overall, a great spot to even just grab some drinks and appetizers with friends/family while enjoying the amazing Morro Bay views! read more

Been here once before and had an amazing view and experience. Decided to order take out and it was done within ten minutes, and for the calamari being $20 I expected a decent portion of food but when we opened the box it didn't even fill the bottom of the box even with the two sauces included. read more

Yes; however, you'll need to eat in the patio area. It's a good spot with heaters and a great view. Terrible if it's windy or foggy n' cold
Do they substitute omelette with egg whites?
Hi, it's been a couple of months since we were there, but I believe they do if you ask (we just went with the regular eggs).
When will adorns re-open, currently closed for construction?
They're not committing to a reopen date yet but the tearing out is done and new walls etc. going in currently. Check back in a couple of weeks.
Easter brunch hours?
So sorry I can't help you out with that I think if you give them a call they will help you out it's a great place to eat we really enjoyed it and I do hope they have a Sunday brunch for you

I was there mid December Take Out Only and the food was great! Service from phone order to pickup 15 minutes
