We like to grab a low booth by the windows and watch the marine layer clear up around Morro Rock. Harry's Special Scramble $20 - scrambled eggs with ground beef, fresh spinach, white onion, mushrooms & Swiss cheese; served with potatoes and sourdough toast. Overall the food was OK but I don't believe worth the price. Ordered their seafood omelet, and was unimpressed. No cheese or creamy sauce, so was more a basic omelet with some shrimp and crab. May suggest the chef adding cheese or creamy sauce to punch some flavor. We decided to go for their pancakes instead, and by far the tastiest thing on the menu. The restaurant gets busy on Saturdays so recommend coming early to put your name down. read more

Overall, the food was really good, and our waitress, Chandly, provided excellent service. Unfortunately, our first impression wasn't as positive. We were quoted about a 45-minute wait, which was acceptable, and after waiting over an hour, we noticed a party, whose name on the list was after our, were seated first and then scratched off. Then we watched the host, Eric, take a couple through the side entrance and seated them before calling our name. Maybe there was an explanation, but from our perspective, it felt unfair and disappointing. Shop owners down the street recommended Dorms for lunch. Up at 5:30am and I hadn't eaten at 3:00pm. I ordered fish and chips but substituted cup of clam chowder for fry's. Every table has a great view of Morro rock. They also have outside tables with fires. They greet you with a huge basket of fresh hot sour dough and a mountain of butter. Food was delish. I ordered their hot berry cobbler with vanilla ice cream. Gigantic portion. I will return and take people with me. Service was fast and friendly. 1:00 am update. I put my left over berry cobbler desert with the melted vanilla ice cream in the freezer after lunch. Just got the munchies and the cobbler fruit and crust frozen into the melted vanilla made a new ice cream creation that I'm going to try and repeat at home OMG. read more

This is a 4 star review disguised as a 5 star review - I would typically drop a star for breakfasts that cost this much - $60+ for two people is absolutely outrageous; HOWEVER, this has got to the best breakfast I've ever had. It was so good the 1st morning we went, we went back the very next day to try something else. The waitress was super friendly and accommodating, and the views were wonderful. A few too many inside flies but oh well... The first day we had omlettes (ham/cheese and Mediterranean) w/ the potatoes and the homemade blueberry muffins that were piping hot! Such a welcome addition instead of toast! The second day we had waffles - plain and pecan, and we added on a fruit plate which was gigantic! We needed a to go box for all of it. I drive up to Morro Bay once a year for a family gathering with my uncle, and Dorn's Breakers Café has become our go-to spot. The food is consistently great. I loved their pancakes, and my dad enjoyed his eggs and spinach. We also tried the French toast--everyone loved their meal. There can be a bit of a wait; we waited about 25 minutes for our party of five. Had a good conversation with people while we waited and staff was kind. I'm giving one star for the friendly staff, and one star for the Mimosa, (even though it took 20 min. to get it after seated). We were really hyped after carefully selecting an "awesome" breakfast spot, and loved the story behind the restaurant. However, breakfast played a big part. We both ate most of our breakfast, as we were starving. I ordered the corned beef hash; my country potatoes were bland, no flavor, and not cooked consistently, the hash itself was plain, lacking flavor and texture, and my eggs were over hard, when I ordered sunny side up. Disappointing at best. My daughter ordered a scramble; her scrambled eggs were cooked perfectly, the bacon was great, but the hash browns were bland and not close to cooked enough. I've been coming to Morro Bay for a few years now (boy is at SLO) and I guess I'm the last to know. Doran's has been providing hearty breakfast/lunch since 1942 with the best view in town. She said no cash only then I asked if we could put it on the tab since I was getting a table. She said no cash only I understand that it's a very popular place and everybody goes there and they don't worry about having no customers, but for the bartender to have that type of rudeness is beyond me because no restaurant around the area is like that. This is my moms favorite restaurant in morro bay so i got food to go (to take back to l.a.) i got for me clam chowder / calamari sandwich and my mom the oyster omelet . Clam chowder was good not great . However there needs more seasoning like salt and pepper . I hate potatos to be filler in my chowder. The chowder had very few mostly clams yumm. We stopped here for breakfast on our way home and had a very disappointing experience. We were seated outside on a chilly morning with children and waited nearly 20 minutes for a heat lamp that we asked for upon arrival, we reminded them three times and still it took them another 10 minutes to bring the heat lamp. The food took an extremely long time to arrive and even then only part of the order came, the rest never came including kids food. After waiting far too long, we asked for the remaining items to be canceled because we had already finished eating. What made the experience worse was that we felt ignored and treated differently from other customers since we were visitors They comped two orange juices when we asked for remaining items to be cancelled saying that's the best they could do. read more

I politely requested that my meat be cooked well. I emphasized that this was important to me. I didn't mind the long wait for my food until I saw pink corned beef hash. Obviously, the cook did not read the ticket with the specific well done meat instructions. I immediately told my server who saw that it was pink and took it back. After another long wait and the cold sourdough toast that I wound up eating as an entree while I waited was disappointing. I spoke to the man who seated me. I hope that he was not a manager because he obviously didn't care and shrugged his shoulders when I told him that I was not having a good experience for breakfast. The second one was not good. Meat was obviously pink inside. I paid the check, tipped the waitress and approached the same man dressed in black that it is unfair to spend $30 on breakfast and have a bad experience. We stopped by Dorns after a morning cruise through Morro Bay and I gotta say, it was such a good call. The whole place has that classic diner charm but elevated, with a clean and cozy vibe inside and a view of the water that really seals the deal. The fog was rolling in heavy that morning but it kind of made the experience feel even more relaxing and peaceful. We sat in a booth with big windows looking out toward the water which was perfect. I ended up ordering the eggs of your choice breakfast with scrambled eggs, hashbrowns, and sausage. Let me tell you the sausage was the standout. I still don't know what kind it was but it had that perfect crisp on the outside and was juicy, salty, and packed with flavor. The hashbrowns were golden and had that nice crunch too. I also got a cup of clam chowder on the server's recommendation and that stuff was legit. Super creamy and smooth with nice chunks of clam. It tasted really fresh like they had just made it that morning. My wife ordered what I think was a potato soup and even though we weren't familiar with it it was actually really good. The bread and butter that came out was solid and the blueberry muffin was warm and fluffy and definitely homemade. Service was really sweet and laid back which made the whole experience that much better. Only downside was having to keep checking on our dog in the car since the marine layer kept things chilly but the staff was really kind and accommodating. Place was gorgeous, very upscale restaurant and seems to be more fine dining. The people I was with have never tried this place and neither have I so why not right? The restaurant has a beautiful view of the ocean and Morro rock, I loved the seating and decor. I did order clam chowder bowl and it was okay. I really wish it had potatoes in it, definitely need more clams and I wish it was on the thicker side. The server came by one time to see if we needed anything and that was it. I was really hoping to have better service since it looks like a 5 star restaurant. It wasn't busy to where she couldn't have checked on us more. Would have been nice to have a refill of water, maybe another beer. Shoot ask us if we wanted dessert. I hate bringing race into it but we were what seemed like the only Hispanics in there. Waitress was nice and the drinks were made well. The views are what draws you here. Not necessarily the food. We started with potato leek soup and artichokes but didn't realize the chokes were fried. Missed that on the menu. The soup was flavorful. Definitely on the thicker side, but good. The artichokes were jarred and pickled flavored, which I didn't like. The crust was firm not mushy. But overall, Not what we expected and would not order again. We both ordered the swordfish which was broiled. We liked the flavor and the beans were cooked with a crisp snap to them. So the wife and I visited morrow bay and we decided to stop by for lunch. We both got the zuchini sticks for an appetizer which were nice and crispy. For the main dish we got the Cesar salad with blackened salmon which had fresh lettuce and the salmon was cooked to perfection. Only downside was they ran out of croutons so our salads were incomplete on that end. To drink we got Arnold Palmers which were mixed perfectly and we got a margarita along with a White Russian cocktail drink. Service was great and we loved that it was pet friendly. We were seated at the window which was really nice--the views are beautiful and we were lucky enough to be there through sunset.
