This morning my wife and I had breakfast at Dorn's and was impressed with the food we were seeing whisked from server to tables around us. We felt the Ambiance was great and were set to have a great meal. When the first item of our food arrived it was clam chowder and it was great. My wife ordered the Mediterranean omelette with hash brown's that we intended to split and I had a Harry's special with pancakes instead of potatoes and bread since we were splitting. While splitting out half of my wife's hash-browns a small piece of green melon appeared from under the potatoes which I am severely allergic to, I mean epee pen allergic. I was shocked and mortified at the same time. If I had not seen it, it could have resulted in a hospital trip. I put the potatoes back on my wife's plate and abandoned the notion of sharing. Once our server checked to see how the meal was we shared our encounter with her and she said she was sorry and would speak to her manager. She then conveniently didn't show back to our table and I had to flag her down to get the bill and ask for some water. Having been a former chef, I know how important food safety is and it's not a laughing matter to be responsible for anaphylaxis of a patron, and then to be dismissive and and distant once we kindly shared the situation left us very confused and disappointed. read more

Cute little breakfast spot right in the bay. Very busy for breakfast. We are from Las Vegas NV so used to the hustle and bustle of breakfast places. I ordered the bacon and cheese omelette.it was loaded with bacon amazing. Prices were very affordable. Our waitress was holding it down both front of the house and bar. In cali they don't really introduce themselves with names as wait staff something I noticed being from Vegas it's way more common. Very happy and would be back! read more

Dorn's Original Breakers Cafe, Morro Bay, CA, April 5, 2024 We came into Dorn's after seeing positive reviews on Yelp. It's a nice restaurant that is higher up than the rest of the restaurants in this area. It gives you a great view of the rock and surrounding area below. We arrived right around noon and they were fairly packed. We got on the waiting list and were seated about five minutes later. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. We were given the option to order breakfast, but we chose to do lunch instead. Our server's name was Ashley. She was very quick to get our drink orders as well as our food order. They have a few specially drinks on the menu including a bloody Mary as well as mimosas. I ordered the Bloody Mary. My wife got a glass of Shadow Ranch Chardonnay. Both drinks were very good. I ordered Nancy's house salad and my wife ordered the seafood salad. Nancy's house salad came with Romain lettuce, nice big chunks of avocado, nice crumbles of blue cheese, and a very tasty Nancy vinaigrette salad dressing. As we waited for our food order to come out, they brought us some nice warm sourdough bread with a massive ball of whipped butter. That was really good! Still my favorite spot for dinner on morro bay. The views are beautiful, plenty of indoor and dog friendly outdoor seating with heaters. The staff here is excellent and the food is tasty. I ordered the filet mignon both nights. It was delicious. instead of rice or potatoes i added more veggies- green beans and mushrooms. The meat was perfectly prepared and the sauce was excellent, tasty and unctuous. The first night the green beans were a tad over cooked. The second night they were perfect. Hubby had the petroleum sole the first night and the fish of the day the second night. Fish was perfectly prepared and had a lovely fresh flavor and was beautifully seasoned. i also enjoyed my first ever decaf espresso martini which was fabulous!!! We went there for breakfast on a Monday around 9:00 am, no wait but the place was nearly full. We could see Morro Bay from our table but some tables also had views of Morro Rock & the Smoke Stacks. I got the eggs & fresh fish. The fish that day was Red Snapper caught locally and I was given 4 different options on how to prepare the fish. My meal was excellent. My spouse got the corn beef & eggs, corn beef had no fillers and was not salty. We also got the fresh baked muffins which were blueberry that morning, they were also excellent. When we were leaving around 10:00 am people were waiting to be seated. We definitely will dine here again next time we are in the Morro Bay Area. read more

Food was okay Service was good Ambiance was good The first thing I have to say is the prices are pretty ridiculous for the quality of food and for breakfast. I orders the crème brûlée French toast which had absolutely nothing to do with crème brûlée, it was basically sliced bread pudding with berries on it (for $19 which is pretty steep considering that was all you got.). Then I added 2 scrambled eggs for more protein. There was no option on the menu for a side of eggs so the price was unknown. They charged $10 for 2 scrambled eggs! So the meal in this picture was $29! My husband ordered eggs Benedict ($24) and he said it was really lacking flavor. Eggs Benedict is always a salty meal and he had to add salt and pepper to it to give it flavor. He said he couldn't even taste the Canadian bacon. The prior day we had eaten at a breakfast restaurant right down the road and (can't remember the name, but it had Lola's in the name) the eggs Benedict there was fantastic and only cost $17. We go to morro bay often for a quick weekend getaway and we definitely won't be returning to Dorns for breakfast. Our meal was 1/2 the price at the other place and the food was much better read more

We had Nancy's other salad and a calamari sandwich substituting a side salad for fries. The other salad was very good. The only complaint I had is I asked the waitress if it had Bay shrimp and she said yes. When it arrived, the shrimp were not bay shrimp. They were really good but not bay shrimp, better. We stopped here during our road trip to LA and were pleasantly surprised! First off, the restaurant is beautifully designed, offering a stunning view of Morro Rock. The outdoor patio tables are equipped with mini fireplaces, making the atmosphere cozy and inviting. The staff were extremely friendly and professional, adding to the great experience. As for the food, it was absolutely amazing! We ordered a bowl of clam chowder to share among the four of us. While it wasn't the best we've ever had, it was still a satisfying fix for the cold weather. The fried zucchini was a standout--lightly battered, crispy, and full of flavor. The patty melt is a must-try! The Cobb salad was fresh and crisp, with plenty of blue cheese for those who love it. The only dish we didn't love was the turkey bacon avocado sandwich. The bread wasn't toasted, and overall, it didn't stand out. However, their house sourdough bread is incredible--so fresh and flavorful! We'll definitely be coming back to try more of their menu. By far one of the best places in Morro Bay, for a special meal. Not overly chichi in atmosphere, pricey without being stratospheric, and excellent food. Mostly seafood is what I've tried, because seafood :-). All of it worth the trip, fresh and varied to reflect the season, with thoughtful sides. Great views and efficient service. The only drawback is no reservation, so you can expect a good wait for most meals. But you can hang out at the bar if you're into that, or look out over the inlet outside if not. read more

Everything went well. It was great atmosphere, with an amazing view. was so nice. The food was absolutely incredible and portions were so large that in one of our meals could've been split between two people. I think the oatmeal could've been split between the three of us. The roasted red potatoes that came with breakfast beautiful rustic, and the preparation was perfect. My spinach omelette was so big. I could only eat half of it. My son Jon ordered the seafood omelette, which had shrimp and dungess crab and lobster? He ate every bit of that almond and then I watched him pick up every tiny shred of crab. The calm chowder was amazing exactly to my preferences (not fishy, thick, and small clam bites). The Fish N Chips were crunchy !! Very well fried and I would go back again. BEST PLACE FOR SUNSET DINNER We stumbled upon Dorn's as the sun was setting. I asked her if we should eat here, and her eyes answered with excitement. We open the door to the hostess greeting us with a friendly smile. I asked if we could have a booth by the window. We walked through the swanky maritime-feeling restaurant to the glorious big paned windows overlooking downtown Morro Bay, the rock, and the rippling water. This dinner was already great - and we hadn't even ordered yet! We sit down to a dancing, twinkling light show of the sun reflecting off the bay's surface. The dining room's lighting induced a soothing feel. The flickering candle brought everything together as we settled in and looked at the menu. Lena, our server, approached our table with the same enthusiastic professionalism the hostess showed us at the entrance. It felt like she knew we were there to enjoy great food and relax as the sunset turned to dusk - turned to night. It felt like she enjoyed working at Dorn's. Who wouldn't with a view like that? Like a slow-motion nature movie of "The Changing of the Guard" - every night. Everything we ordered was so delicious. I opted to have a blackened salmon on top of a mushroom risotto as my entree. Our garlic sautéed mushroom appetizer was the perfect mellow counterpart to the fried zucchini sticks. The fantastic thing about the sticks was they were tender, lightly breaded - and fresh tasting. Outside patio boasts a gorgeous view of the embarcadero, Morro rock and smokestacks. Even though it may be chilly, find a cozy spot under one of their outdoor patio heaters. Spicy bloody Mary was most enjoyable. Surprisingly balanced and tasted like a housemade bloody mix, garnished with a green olive and celery stalk. Bagel and lox is what I ordered, being I arrive during brunch time and that seemed appropriate. Hands down, the best smoked salmon I have ever had, tons of briny capers and more than enough cream cheese, tomato and red onion. Would definitely order again!
