Great place for a Tenderloin! Dooley O'Tooles is a Carmel tradition and always our first choice for a tenderloin! We got there about 11:30 and were seated very quickly. This is THE local spot for Carmel residents so it can get busy later at lunch. I love eating here and because it has that local vibe of neighbors and friends running into each other. Our waitress was great and my grilled tenderloin was very good. I got the green beans and my husband got the fries. Although they have been in business 37 years, our first visit was during Hamilton County's "Tuesday Tenderloin" promotion. Since then, we have returned twice more; both times for lunch. They have "Tuesday Tenderloin" each week throughout the year. My wife says their chicken velvet soup is the best she has ever had. Their waitresses are what I would call "old school": friendly, competent, knowledgeable and efficient. I would also venture to say they have a long tenure with the firm. The young bartender's son, Stephen, is fabulous. Among other things he shows senior citizens respect; along with others he seats you, he busses tables, he deliveries food to the table. He is full of enthusiasm and handles multi-tasks with efficiently . His father should be very proud of him. We find their pricing very comparable to similar restaurants in the area and a bargain for the quality served. One alert: Arrive early, or late, as the place is full at lunch hour. That great personal service but he left me alone enough for me to feel completely comfortable and enjoy my meal. My girlfriend and I went to get lunch at Dooley O'Toole's and had to try their Tenderloin Tuesday special. We had been told they were large, but neither of us could eat more than half and had enough leftovers for dinner too. We tasted samples of each other soups and the chicken velvet was by far our favorite, creamy with lots of flavor. Our waitress Sara was very quick, kind and professional. We loved being surrounded by all of the antique and historical objects and the atmosphere was very warm and inviting. Went here for a graduation lunch with 13 people. The service was incredible. The orders were all correct and we never had to ask for refills or anything. Best service I have had in a long time. They are known for their pork cutlet sandwiches. The cutlet is huge. The. In only covers about a fourth of the cutlet. Cutting it in half and stacking it on the bun still leaves a lot hanging over the edge. The biscuits and apple butter was good, too. It was hard to find. It is in a strip mall and the signage is hard to see. The restaurant was empty. It had the feeling of a restaurant past its prime. The food, with the exceptions above, was mediocre. One of the oldest restaurants in Carmel (and it shows), yet I had never been until I stopped in to take advantage of their Tenderloin Tuesday deal. I can't claim to be a tenderloin connoisseur, but this was a good Hoosier sandwich. I ordered it breaded instead of grilled, because go big or go home. In true tenderloin fashion, it came out the size of my plate and I could barely find the bun. My meal came with lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, mayo, etc. on the side. For my side dish, I picked the chive fries, which are wedge style and delicious, but I couldn't taste much seasoning. I could only eat half of my tenderloin, so you might considering splitting it. Note that they have a separate room for large groups with its own drink machine to make it easy to get drinks. Within my group, there were a few minor mishaps with "who ordered what" but the staff got it all squared away. Our meals came out in a decent amount of time, too. read more

We had a solid dinner here. I tried the special, filet medallions with rice pilaf and mushroom gravy. It was phenomenal. It came with bread or fried biscuits. The bread was dense and tasty and served warm. The cup of chili was fine, but nothing special. It came out so hot that it took me forever to be able to eat it. Salads came next, and they weren't great. The dressings are strange. My Caesar dressing was sweet with no garlic. Hubby had some bacon mustard monstrosity that again was way WAY too sweet. Good thing we weren't feeling the salads, because the entrees came out mere moments after the salads were served. Service was like the chili - fine, but not great. Our server couldn't give any suggestions for what was good besides the pork tenderloin. I asked for suggestions "not including pork or chicken". Then I ordered green beans. The green beans were served with bacon. Not a huge deal, I still eat bacon on occasion, and if I were a strict vegetarian, I probably would have thought to ask if the green beans came with pork. Still, it was disappointing that our server didn't make the connection that if I wanted entree suggestions that excluded pork, it would be worth warning me that I was ordering a side dish that included pork. I also forgot to tell her the temp on my steak and she never asked me. It luckily came out a perfect medium, but again something she should have asked me. Hubby and I agreed that dinner was fine. If someone invited us here, we would go again, but this likely will not be a first choice for us in the future. read more

I think Dooleys is one of the most underrated restaurants around. Everything we have ever had there was fantastic. The menu is diverse and original. Last Tuesday in July for the Breaded Tenderloin event. The tenderloins here are right out the Orgasmitron. Thickness, batter and buns yelled out Eat Me. Sally said her grilled loin was very fine. This was a favorite stop during occasional trips to Carmel we used to make when we lived here n the Southside of Indy. The menu's half sandwich and soup is a favorite choice, because it allows for enjoyment of the yummy chili (or the notable House chicken velvet soup) as well as the tenderloin or reuben, both worth trying. Dooley's chili and soups (a new one is offered daily) are always worth trying. Dooley's offers daily specials, too, and I'll occasionally explore one of those. My favorites of the specials were a grilled seasoned chicken, mashed potatoes and vegetable and a teriyaki chicken with mashed potatoes and vegetable. They're pretty good about letting you swap out a side for a salad, which I've done. I also enjoy that they keep a couple of craft brews on draft, including at least one from a local brewery. read more

Dooley O'Toole's has been a fixture in Carmel for more than thirty years. I've been going there for almost twenty years now and have always found it to be a satisfying experience. There is ample convenient parking in a lot off Carmel Drive shared by O'Toole's with a few other businesses in the short strip mall. I have heard the decor described as outdated. I prefer to think of it as timeless. The overall dining area is divided by short walls, railings, decorative windows, and varying floor levels into five general areas, one being the bar. Furnishings include booths, tables, chairs, and approximately a dozen-and-a-half stools around the squared-off horseshoe bar. It is all dominated by dark wood with brass accents. Neon signage in the bar area--visible throughout--adds an eye-catching touch. A few muted TVs are scattered through the areas while unrelated recorded music plays at a level conducive to conversation. I was in there most recently just yesterday at mid-afternoon for a few drinks and a bite to eat. There were only three or four other customers there when I arrived. I chose to take a seat at the bar where Devon, the bartender/server, was quick to greet me in a genial manner. O'Toole's has a comprehensive menu with a substantial list of appetizers, salads, soups, sandwiches, entrées, sides, and desserts, plus a full bar. I first ordered the Chicken Velvet soup, the Taco Nachos, and the Cheesy Shrooms. Devon asked if all of that was for dining in or if any of it was for carry-out. I assured him it was all for dining in. He then reminded me of the gracious size of their portions and suggested I might want to rethink my selections; perhaps ordering just two of the items and then, if I still wanted it, I could order the third. Given that, I asked for the soup and nachos. Devon was absolutely right. I had a cup of the soup--chicken and cream flavored with curry and ginger; and then the nachos--a heaping plate of cheese, green onions, lettuce, olives, peppers, tomato, and spicy beef over corn tortilla chips and served with salsa and sour cream on the side. It was all delectable and I could not have eaten another bite. The one fault I find with the establishment is that they are only open Monday through Friday (not on weekends) and at that only until 9:00 in the evening. For a weekday lunch, dinner, snack, or drink at very reasonable prices however, Dooley O'Toole's is an excellent choice. read more

After 34 years, this place is still going strong with the regulars. It is not a Foodie place- unless you are looking for comfort food. Decor is faded neon Irish, with a friendly 80s soundtrack, but soups are fresh homemade. I had a delicious tomato bisque soup with blue cheese and we shared a pretzel appetizer with queso. Pretzels were amazingly light--soft, buttery and lightly salted. The queso was somewhat bland. Husband had the sloppy joe special, served on a soft shiny bun with a side of coleslaw. My Yuenling was only $4, a fair price in a restaurant. Service at dinner time was excellent. read more

It's been forever since we have been here! We like to support local establishments and this is truly local. Service was prompt and attentive...and let's not forget cheerful! Tried this place in Carmel out tonight for their Indy tenderloin week special. Establishment is definitely dated but it's clean and kept up nicely. Our server was really friendly and prompt. Their tenderloins which we both got- one grilled and one breaded are HUGE! They were both good nothing super special in my opinion but still enjoyable. I lke this place. I like it a lot. If you're expecting a traditional Irish pub (think The Golden Ace), you'll be disappointed. If you're used to corporate knock offs (think Claddagh), I think you'll be quite pleased. Dooley's has one of the best tenderloins anywhere. On Tuesday nights, they have a breaded tenderloin with one side for $7.45....an insanely reasonable price for a HUGE tenderloin and a HUGE order of fries. I recommend the chive fries. to. die. for. Service is always outstanding, and the owner seems like he really enjoys owning the restaurant, a huge plus. The patty melt is VERY good. The Reuben is....on par with most Indy area Reubens, which is to say, average at best. Their double decker burger...the name I can't recall...is outstanding. Let's start off and say the food is good, but tonight the service was very poor. My wife Linda and I ordered our dinner talked and then our meal was serviced. Linda ordered the Tenderloin and I ordered a Taco Salad. Linda cut her Tenderloin in half and started eating. After one bite our waitress dropped off a to go box next to her plate. At the time we said that was strange, I took a bite of my salad and the next thing that happens the waitress lays down the check. Linda says well I guess it's time to go. Waitress says no, and I said why are we the only table being treated this way; I next asked to see the manager. The manager tried to pick up the check we said no we are paying but we will not be coming back. The manager would not say why we were treated this way. I did ask if it was the way I was dressed or because we did not order a drink. The manager just looked at me and would not answer. Anyway I would not recommend this restaurant. Came in for a nice quiet meal for birthday/Valentine's Day. Server was sweet and super attentive. She refilled drinks without being asked, answers lots of questions about the menu and offered samples of their food before ordering. Although there was a bit of confusion in the kitchen with my order, we had no clue as she took time to come back and apologize. She offered free dessert for the issue, but wasn't important to me as her service was great! You could tell they took pride in their food. Pretzel breadsticks were soo good! My hubby's tenderloin was huge. He said it was cooked perfectly. I had chicken fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans and fried biscuits with apple butter. These weren't just out of the can green beans. They were seasoned, had bacon in them and onions for flavor. Mashed potatoes and gravy were heavenly. I took most of my dinner home for the next day. They never disappoint! My honey and I love Indy areas pork tenderloins. We've tried quite a few and come back to Dooley O'Toole's in Carmel on Carmel Dr., as our favorite. Tonight I called in an order on my way home, as we have projects to finish at home. Within 3 minutes of my arrival, energetic Devon had it ready to go! And boy was it delish..so tender and flavorful! Wish we would have thought to take a pic to share..it hung over the plate. I will get 2 more meals out of mine. Hubby devoured all of his. This place is a Carmel staple. It has weird hours, it's only open until 9p and it's not open on weekends! So weird. It's very popular with the olds, and we decided to finally try it out. The chicken velvet soup is mentioned in most of the reviews here for a reason, it's delicious! We also got the soup of the day, which was a horseradish tomato bisque, which I enjoyed a lot. We also ordered the fried mushrooms, which were fine but the nice fried coating of the mushrooms gets soggy after being topped with melted cheese. For entrees we got the meatloaf and the sautéed chicken. Both very flavorful, although needed salt. For sure. Nothing special about the baked potato but the rice pilaf was very nice, as was the cole slaw which had an unexpected poppyseed dressing.
