Pope 1 Specialty Donut
Mia T.

I went in early for a dozen and a half donuts and they were a hit. My transaction was quick and the man helping me was very nice. He gave me a good variety of donuts. There's definitely something for everyone here from your classic donut to filled donuts. I particularly found the donut with the pope on it cute. The donuts themselves are super fluffy with the perfect amount of glaze or filling. They're not too dry, but still dippable.

They are definitely doing something right because there was a line out the door and everyone was walking out with multiple boxes! They do not only have donuts but pizza as well and bonus for an early Sunday morning, there was breakfast pizza. I just grabbed a few doughnuts to go and for the people that I bought them for, they were good but nothing made them stand out from other places we have in Buffalo. I tried the apple fritter though and I thought it was very good and really fresh! 3 doughnuts and an apple fritter for $11 was a little steep though. We asked if there was a savings for buying in the 1/2 dozen or dozen but were basically told no, you just pay based on the type of doughnut and no prices listed so you just get surprised on what your final bill is after you pick your doughnuts.

I be come out from Syracuse lots of times this is my second time here. They pizza doesn't have a traditional crust. Which is ok it's really tasty. Buffalo chicken the first time Buffalo chicken Charlie same concept drizzled with honey. It was delicious! The slices are huge! I did buy some doughnuts too but still waiting to try them. I love the nostalgic look of the restaurant it was pretty cool. Service was fast and friendly! Can't wait to go back!

The donuts are pretty good, better than average. I've never tried the pizza but other people have raved about it . The best donut I tried was the jelly stick.

Very delicious! Ordered a 6-pack of their Buffalo Bills themed donuts. They had special donuts to support Damar Hamlin #3. These were a fun treat to bring to the tailgate!

The expansion was much needed, as I had some crowded previous experiences and found this to be one of the downsides of the location. The expansion has truly helped the shop to reach its full potential. The demand was clearly visible as I stopped in around 8:30 pm on a Wednesday night and found it was quite busy, with patrons coming and going. I ordered a strawberry refresher and found a cozy reading spot. The barista who took my order was so sweet. I really enjoyed her kind personality. As always the dessert case was filled with appetizing treats, though I did not indulge during this visit, I love getting a look at them. They are always pretty. I was in heaven. We had one each and coffee. It is so nice to find. A place that can offer honey instead of sugar or artificial sweeteners. The scones were delicious, so much so I bought one of each for home. The two very friendly people working were Julia and Pan. They are so grilled to work in this cute and unique shop and it was very apparent. Loved them! This is my new favorite shop and hope to be there often. I'm ashamed and embarrassed to admit it's my first time there but it definitely will not be my last. I'm posting a ton of pictures just so you all can see what they offer. The scones were incredible as was my Americano which they gave me for free as a nurse. There's a board you can purchase a $4 cup of coffee for a service worker (Medical, police, fire fighter, teacher, etc.) which I thought was a wonderful idea and concept. To be gifted this by a stranger was a very unexpected and pleasant surprise. Julia was working and made us feel so at home. She remarked at how wonderful the owners are to work for and how much she is passionate about working there. Her coworker Pan said it was the greatest job ever. I loved all of the small gifts. Some of which Julia said she made are on the shelves as well as mystery books that are like blind dates for readers. I didn't get to eat off their menu other than the scones, but if the food is as good as the baked goods and coffee, then I can hardly wait to try it. My mother and I are already looking forward to making this a weekly visit. I'm also hoping that I can start replacing my order ahead at Starbucks with an order ahead coffee here! Suggestion: it would be great if there was an app to do that... Just a thought. Julia did say I could call ahead and so I'm thinking about that. I'm a big supporter of small businesses in my community. It would much rather give my money here than to the big chains. I hope this place is around for a very long time. The place was full when we got there and it was still full when we left so it looks like we're not the only ones who discovered this hidden gem. If you haven't been there yet, you need to go try it. You're gonna kick yourself for not coming sooner. Thank you Julia and Pan for the great service and hospitality. You two are as much about making it a great experience as anything else.

The shop currently has a fall menu offering and I had to get the Scully, named after my favorite 90s special agent. Delicious drink with smoky fall flavors. I was able to have it made iced with almond milk. The shop also had a nice offering of pre-made baked goods from local partners such as The Red Fern and The Little Brownie. A rotation of pastries were also available such as pretzel croissants and cinnamon buns. Seating is limited (two tables) and a bathroom is available on site. You will also find art on display for sale, as well as books, pins, and stickers from local artists. The shop is very much connected to the community with these offerings and there is even a board for local events, mutual aid, and business card offerings. It was busy when we arrived with only one barista working. The barista would take orders and then made the drinks for the order. They were very kind and hardworking. We had no problem being patient waiting for our turn. There was so much to look at in the shop while waiting. Street parking is available and was easy to find. The street the shop is located on is tree lined and quiet. Very happy to support a queer & trans owned coffee shop with ties to the local community. The vibes at Clownboy Coffee are superb!

I had a toasted coconut latte which was pretty good - but also pretty basic in terms of lattes that I have tried in the Rochester area. For me, this cafe was a one and done - not only because of the coffee, but also because of the service. I felt like the barista was a little rude, which I can consider could just be something personal that the barista was dealing with that day. However, as someone who appreciates good service (or at least someone who is kind), service means a lot to me. Overall, the coffee was pretty mid. I think Montgomery Court was a one and done for me.

On my first visit, I had the unfortunate timing to arrive late in the morning after a huge rush of locals had pretty much wiped out all their specials. Except one: a coffee drink with fish sauce. You read that correctly. FISH SAUCE. Like the kind you put on a savory Asian dish. It wasn't what I wanted, but the person making the coffees talked me into it because, as noted, they were literally out of almost everything else. I thought, well, I do like fish sauce, and maybe it just adds an umami kick, the way salt on caramel amps up the richness of a dessert. And I was not disappointed! In fact, it was delightful and very easy to drink! From that point, I felt pretty much hooked. These folks know their flavor combos and despite how 'weird' some might sound, they just work. My current obsession is their miso gourd-core on their fall menu - sort of like a savory pumpkin spice latte - delicious. I also love the golden nugget with turmeric maple syrup and clove. Really good. I have not tried anything else here food-wise (i.e. no cookies, smoothies or other nibbles), but usually pair my coffee with something delectable from next door at Jens Artisan - such as a quiche, mini cheesecake or cinnamon roll.... I'm a fan. And I highly recommend trying something outside of your comfort zone!
