Cran-cha (cranberries and matcha) drink from Clownboy Coffee in Rochester, NY
    Austin R.

I really enjoyed my experience at Clownboy and admire them for being queer/trans-owned as well as fully VEGAN which makes them the only all-vegan coffee shop in the Rochester area to my knowledge. The only things I didn't love about my experience were the size of the space (fairly small, only 6 seats) and my Cran-cha (cranberries and matcha) drink which was just not much to my taste personally (too much cranberries sinking to the bottom of the drink). However, there were other pluses like the charming interior decor, the bulletin board full of community news and promos, and the polite and considerate barista. Would recommend highly as a good place for ethical coffee consumption and good vibes. The location is on a nice part of Main Street and quite close to another favorite of mine, Alt Bar.

Clownboy Coffee is a great new coffee shop! I have been here twice in the last week, and both times have been great! Cowboy is such a cute little queer-owned coffee shop in the heart of Rochester. The inside is so cutely decorated but tiny, so you may have to take your coffee to-go. The first time I ordered the But I'm a Cheerleader which is their June special. This drink is sparkling water, lemonade, strawberry, and orange syrup. I loved this drink! It was so fun and fresh. The second time I ordered a Stramatcha with oat milk as they were out of almond milk. This drink is housemade strawberry syrup and iced matcha. This one was also pretty good, but I found it to be a little watered down. I think this may be the oat milk they are using for the drink. I would love to come back and try it again with almonds! Overall this is a great little cafe and I can't wait to come back and try more things!

I've been dying to try out Clownboy it opened! It's so nice to have a queer owned coffee shop in the heart of Rochester! You walk inside and the shop itself is bright and colorful, very different from today's Rochester weather. They have a fabulous menu and specials. I ordered the But I'm a Cheerleader which is their Pride special which donates $1 ROC LGBTQ together The staff here are super friendly and welcoming! Venmo to pay or use cash or card.

Love that there is a new coffee shop in the area. There is small parking lot in the back. Plenty of drink options. I ordered a peach matcha which was seasonal at the time. The matcha itself was delicious, but I didn't care for the peach texture. There is some seating inside but not the best place for working as it's limited.

I always like to look for espresso specials and we were not disappointed by the selection. My fiance got The Snug with maple syrup and molasses bitters. I was too afraid to try any drinks with bitters (I hate how it tastes in cocktails) but I took a sip of The Snug and it tasted great, I would definitely try that next time. I had the B.B.L. latte which had banana syrup, it was more on the sweet side but not overly sweet (I would avoid it if you don't enjoy a sweet palate, try a latte with bitters instead!) It was something unique to try and I was happy with my choice. There was also plenty of seating which is always a huge plus in the winter in Rochester. We had no trouble getting a table. I should also note that there was a very limited food selection here -- about 3 baked goods offered. So if you're looking for food and coffee, I would recommend looking elsewhere. Overall I would happily try out Ugly Duck again! I'm curious if they have outdoor seating in the warmer months.

I'm not sure I'd consider this a good place to study, but it's a nice place to catch up with friends or take a pause outside with a good drink on a patio. The seating inside is somewhat limited, but the patio is beautiful. The buildings will provide natural shade in the afternoon. Parking can also be difficult and limited.

I love the atmosphere and the low lighting of this cafe, but was disappointed with their latte selection after being recommended this cafe so many times. I had a toasted coconut latte which was pretty good - but also pretty basic in terms of lattes that I have tried in the Rochester area. For me, this cafe was a one and done - not only because of the coffee, but also because of the service. I felt like the barista was a little rude, which I can consider could just be something personal that the barista was dealing with that day. However, as someone who appreciates good service (or at least someone who is kind), service means a lot to me. Overall, the coffee was pretty mid. I think Montgomery Court was a one and done for me.

On my first visit, I had the unfortunate timing to arrive late in the morning after a huge rush of locals had pretty much wiped out all their specials. Except one: a coffee drink with fish sauce. You read that correctly. FISH SAUCE. Like the kind you put on a savory Asian dish. It wasn't what I wanted, but the person making the coffees talked me into it because, as noted, they were literally out of almost everything else. I thought, well, I do like fish sauce, and maybe it just adds an umami kick, the way salt on caramel amps up the richness of a dessert. And I was not disappointed! In fact, it was delightful and very easy to drink! From that point, I felt pretty much hooked. These folks know their flavor combos and despite how 'weird' some might sound, they just work. My current obsession is their miso gourd-core on their fall menu - sort of like a savory pumpkin spice latte - delicious. I also love the golden nugget with turmeric maple syrup and clove. Really good. I have not tried anything else here food-wise (i.e. no cookies, smoothies or other nibbles), but usually pair my coffee with something delectable from next door at Jens Artisan - such as a quiche, mini cheesecake or cinnamon roll.... I'm a fan. And I highly recommend trying something outside of your comfort zone!
