Keep your eyes out for this sign!! There's so much construction you might miss it!!

First time in Austin & Im here for the BBQ!!! Spotted Donn's BBQ off the side of the road. Didn't look like it was a restaurant at first glance! After a quick Yelp search I was all in! Seems to be Hispanic owned and operated and I love the diversity of the dinners. Cashier was kind enough to be patient while we struggled with our decisions. Luckily she recommended the Catfish & didn't disappoint!! A very casual lunch time spot with huge menu of Mexican dishes as well as BBQ plates. I came for BBQ so I ordered the Brisket plate & My Husband got the Fried Catfish. "I Tell YOU WHAT" I'm in love with the food in Texas!! Brisket was tender and juicy, Catfish was crispy and delicious! Prices were more than reasonable for the portions, I'd skip the "long lines " and come here again.

Been going here for a while now. Great food and service. Pancake platter is excellent. Prices very good as well.

Been around these parts my entire life but never made Donn's a regular dining spot. Back in the day I worked for the Salt Lick in Driftwood so I had BBQ covered. Just 100 yards away is Jim's which I've been dining at religiously for breakfast since my teens. That about covers my dining needs every day of the week. I guess curiosity got the better of me on a recent morning and headed in for breakfast. I mean, my buddy Joe G. eats here near daily as he lives in the Scenic Brook neighborhood. What am I missing here? My ideal breakfast taco when featuring BBQ is fluffy eggs, crispy taters, mound of cheddar, and a perfectly sliced slab of fatty brisket. Salsa too! Donn's was OK. Eggs and meat cooked together; wished for Valentina's craftmanship and presentation. Second plate was biscuit and gravy; part of my usual "Country Boy Combo". Nicely cooked biscuit served in a paper boat with a plastic cup of gravy. Coupe dashes of black pepper made the dish acceptable fare. All tacos served on a single foam plate. Y'all could have splurged and gave my GF her own plate! Condiments were plentiful and appreciated. Most interesting was Donn's version of red salsa with notes of New Mexico red chili with hints of a BBQ sauce. Salsa verde and the pico were tasty too.

Appearances are deceiving with this place. At first it looks like a dingy spot, but give it a chance and the large servings will win you over. The full chicken did not disappoint 8.5/10. The brisket was a bit of a let down with the rubbery texture and the pork ribs rounded up with a 6/10. The fries were the star of the show with a good balance of salt and not too greasy. Cons: Service wasn't as cooperative while ordering and at one point ignored a customer who had spilled a drink and didn't even offer to clean up in a high traffic area. Toilets are clean. 5/10 Value for money 7/10 Overall score 7/10

Unfortunately, the kitchen just wasn't on their game this day. We went for brunch and it is a lovely restaurant with some amazing looking pastries. My ratings of the food we got are below. Overall, everything was just okay and not something I would order again. Our order: Salami and cheese - 1/10, not even edible with how much olive oil they dumped on it. Hard cheese and meat. None of us touched it. Frites - 9/10, hard to go wrong here. Nice and crispy French cruller - 7/10, I think this is just personal presence here I wished it was warmed up. Flavor was good but it was a little dry. Burger - 5/10, the flavor is there and definitely has potential but it was so bloody and rare which is not what we asked for. My friend has a gluten allergy and she asked for the burger lettuce wrapped and it just came on top of a huge chunk of iceberg so wouldn't recommend that if you want it lettuce wrapped. Chicken sandwich - 8/10, this was good with a nice crispy chicken. It could have used something sweet to balance the spice though it was a little one dimensional.

Upon entry was greeted by Melissa and sat in her section. The decor is very diner type with low, cozy booths and few tables and chairs. Not too big of a space and not sure if there is more seating elsewhere. Anyhoo, coffee was good and I got the Royal toast and a single pancake with eggs, and sausage. Ample amount of food and def had take away box. Everything was tasty and the buttermilk pancake was amazing with just syrup. Melissa was kind enough to provide little cups to take syrup home along with the tael away container. They had a daily special and a board above the kitchen with other items. Really wanted to try a slice of pie ( TX Pie Co) but seems a bit outta line with what I already ordered. Maybe next time.

I drove by it for 20 years on the way to Avenue Barber Shop. I wanted shredded beef tacos but couldn't get them without cilantro so I chose shredded beef enchiladas (with an $8!) side of chips and salsa. My wife ordered scrambled eggs, bacon and home fries. She requested soft eggs, as she always does because too many places overcook them. The chips and salsa arrived. I was immediately disappointed. The menu said "we make our own chips." They were thick and yellow and appeared to be run-of-the-mill, out-of-a-bag chips. I prefer the thin white ones. I took one bite of salsa, and that was one bite too many. Cumin. I pushed it all aside. Cumin doesn't belong in salsa. (Sorry. I grew up in the Rio Grande Valley.) My enchiladas came with black beans, and there was cumin in them. Cumin is overused and abused in most restaurants. I couldn't eat them. The rice was good but the chipotle sauce on the enchiladas was not. I scraped most of the sauce off and ate one enchilada, mainly because I just needed something in my stomach. We were still 45 miles from home. I pushed my plate away. I also ordered coffee. One sip of that was all I could stand. Too weak for me. It gets worse, much worse. My wife's eggs were barely cooked. She asked the waiter for some cooked eggs. He took her plate and returned about four minutes later. The eggs were still not cooked. She tried another bite but couldn't eat them. Her bacon was tough as a boot and not chewable. The home fries were average, but by the time her plate arrived at our table for the second time, they were cold. I pulled my card out waiting for our excellent server to return. He asked how everything was (he had to notice two plates still covered with food) and we politely told him. I ate one enchilada and some rice. My wife had two bites of egg and two bites of potato. He apologized and handed me the check. $65. Nothing comped and nothing adjusted. A manager should've been summoned. How does a place like this have any customers? It was our first and last visit.

Friendly staff overall. The food fell flat for almost all of us. The salads were fresh and good. However, the ribs were below average. Cornbread was stale and not tasty. Not quite sure why the food was subpar, but there were 10 of us who all agreed we wouldn't return for food. There is a swanky little cozy speakeasy in the basement that may be good? We didn't try that.

It's a small space, with only around eight tables and a tiny kitchen behind the counter. It's a bit hard to locate from outside. There's no big sign on the window indicating the restaurant's name, just a plastic A-frame sign outside the building's doors. When I got there, four of the eight tables were empty but the dirty dishes had not yet been cleared. It took close to 10 minutes for the tables to be bused. Because the kitchen is so small, I'd recommend going up to the counter to order as soon as you get there. I believe you can also place your order online using the QR code on the table, but I didn't try that method. I ordered the lox n found, a toasted croissant roll with smoked salmon, avocado, dill ricotta, arugula, onion, and capers. The menu says it also comes with a side of roasted potatoes, but mine didn't come with that. The sandwich was delicious and filling, so I definitely didn't need them, but I do feel like I didn't get what I paid for.
