I'd definitely say this is the most authentic Mexican food place I've ever been. We went on a Friday, and got an order of chicken and beef fajitas. For $4.99 you can't beat the ton of meat, onions, and peppers you get, along with rice and beans. Only downside to this place was the service (our waiter took a lunch break in the middle of our service... and admitted to as much), it was VERY hot inside, and you have to pay for chips and salsa. read more

After witnessing the cook wipe the Mole sauce ladle with her bare finger dripping the nole on our food and then licking her fingers clean only to finish making our dishes I was digusted. I called on the manager who told the owner the situation. The owner was mad and charged us our drinks, chips and salsa. She demanded we pay for what we didn't complain about. I wasn't having it. Hungry for tacos and inspired by Daniel W's awesome taco reviews, I decided to swing by and get some tacos since I was in the hood. When I walked in I was greeted in Spanish by a server... Unsure if she spoke English, I decided to wing it and practice my awesome Spanglish skills. I ordered 2 beef fajita tacos, 1 Al Pastor, and 2 Lengua (tongue) tacos, My expectations were high and I couldn't help but to compare with Fuel City's tacos. I was on a mission... to find tacos comparable to FTC in Irving. They are super cheap! $1 each but they are small. The fresh made tortillas were MONEY but they were so SO delicate my tacos almost busted. Hmmm that's something I don't get to say every day. I wonder why they didn't wrap them with 2 tortillas instead. The lengua was the best out of all of them. The meat was cooked right and tender but kind of bland. Overall, the meats were under seasoned so I had to add a lot of salt and lime. The salsa roja was super intense and spicy....and smokey! The salsa verde was pretty good. I forget to mention their tacos come with meat and tortilla then you go to their salsa bar and go crazy! Get your pico de gallo and cilantro on. I made the mistake of putting one too many onions and I couldn't stop tasting it for a while. The Al Pastor was cooked with pineapple and had a strong herbal-ish taste to it... Some of the worst Mexican food I've ever had. The Salsa they gave us tasted like campbells stew, I had to ask If they gave us soup on accident. The tripas were fried to an awful hard crisp. Wow what a place and very good service. I had never been here before it was recommended by a friend to meet for lunch. Upon entering was meet by very nice and attractive wait staff. We were seated quickly during the lunch hour and was served within minutes. We made jokes and wise cracks all was taken in stride. Then our meal came very nice portions and it tasted great. I've eaten at this restaurant a couple times for lunch and they have amazing authentic Mexican food. The lunch specials are great and most are $4.99 with a dinner size portions. The Torta Cubana (Thursday's $4.99 special) is one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. On Friday, the fajita lunch is one of the $4.99 lunch specials. Both the chicken and the beef are delicious. They have a huge menu with lots of seafood options and lots of different types of tacos including beef, chicken, carnitas, lengua, and sweet bread. They also have a taco special where you can get 3 tacos, rice and beans for $3.99. All the tacos are $1, so you can get an extra one for only a buck. For me the salsa bar is a really big deal. They have 3-4 different types of salsa, pico de gallo, cilantro, onions, tomatoes, and a Mexican vegetable mix. All the sauces are delicious with different flavors and levels of heat. The place is definitely a taqueria and you won't mistake it for a fine dining restaurant. However, the restaurant is well maintained and clean. When you arrive, one of the waitresses will either show you to a table or let you seat yourself. The service was also excellent on both my visits to Dona Lencha. Food-5 stars, Taqueria Ambiance-5 stars, Service-4 stars, Value-5 stars. This may be the best Mexican food I've eaten in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex. read more

Now this is authentic stuff. It doesn't get anymore "mexican" than this. The salsa is fresh, tortillas hand made, and menu is ridiculous. They have lunch specials everyday with items ranging from the basic fajitas to the carnitas. Beware, you will smell pretty nasty after leaving. My favorite place for real Mexican food in dfw! I drive 30 miles for it. Walk in with twelve pack of beer and they will take it from you at the door and bring it back on ice garnished with limes and seasoned oranges. The tacos are amazing, cheap, and the number of choices is the largest I have seen anywhere. I'm guessing there are 40 different meats? The traditional meal that feeds 4-5 people is really fun and delicious. The tortillas are made fresh, the Barbacoa is incredible, the only place I find moronga, sweetbreads, quail, lamb choices, just incredible. Had some friends of mine that are not hispanic go there for lunch on a Friday afternoon (2-24-12 - between 12:00 pm and 12:30 pm) and no one ever showed up to their table to take their order for a drink or food! All other customers that came in were hispanic and they were taken care of immediately. When my friend asked to speak to the manager she was told that he manager was busy! Really?! My friend then proceeded to tell this woman at the cash register that they had been sitting there for 25 minutes! and no one had come by their table to take their order and the woman said that is because the waitresses don't speak english very well!!!! I have found heaven.... thanks yelp! Very, very inexpensive. Huge menu -- every part of the animal that you would ever want. Is it fantastic food - no but it doesn't have to. It is a taqueria. I highly recommend the spicy quail - 2 whole quail, very good rice and beans for 5$ with fresh tortillas. The quail was in a tomato sauce - If I was alone, I probably would have licked the plate. it was that good. I also had several tacos (separate visit) for 1$ each and they were very good for the price. I was a little miffed that they charge for the chips and salsa but they do have a salsa bar, provide a small cup of warm refried beans, and thick tortilla chips --that, plus the fact that all of their prices are very reasonable, make this very bearable. Overall, thumbs way up! Updates: Menudo - excellent. Mole - near perfect though I think the chicken quarter is probably better than the chicken fajita.
