Don Carbón is back open for in person dining! Check out the sanitizer tunnel !
    Matt S.

Don Carbón is my go to jam in El Paso. They have been providing me, my friends and my family with delicious charcoal grilled chickens for years and when Covid hit, I became concerned. I had been consistently asking if they were going to reopen their dining areas anytime soon and finally today I was able to go inside! They kept insisting they wanted to make sure it was safe to reopen! I had never been to the Upper Valley location because it's so far off the beaten path for me, but I was impressed with the way they were running it. First. The sanitation tunnel to enter. Kinda wild, kinda awesome, new experience for me. You walk through what I can only assume is misters containing sanitizing agent. Impressive. On top of that, everyone was masked up, temperatures were checked, constant wiping and sanitizing. Color me impressed. My only disappointment is that it's probably going to be hard to find a table as they continue to spread the word about their reopening. Love this place. Chicken and charro beans were on point as usual. I'll be back.... maybe later today with the family.

    Cold beef fajita plate.

Holy crap lousy lunch batman! So i can give them this much.... Their chicken is probably the only thing worthy of eating here. Unless you like pie and flan, then theres a lil extra. He ordered the beef fajita and i got the 2 chicken plate. Saddest beef fajita plate to ever exist. Everything, down to the grilled onions on top of the beef were COLD. His came out first and my order came soon after but only by a minute or 2. My fries were signifcantly warmer than his, therefore either they made his order in error previously and just let it sit there,or they prepared his really fast and still had to grill up my chicken, so they waited it out until mine was done. Seriously poor execution. And the beef itself? It barely had any flavor, let alone seasoning to it. Our waitress asked if there was anything else she can get us and i was ready to ask for a refund on that beef fajita. But i figured i take a loss on this and just never come back. I was certainly not about to send back a plate and get spit in it or god knows what. Mac salad tasted like they just threw a bunch of mayo together with the macaroni and other random crap like corn, ham, and peas. It was the blandest mac salad to ever exist. Charro beans were also really kind of gross. Hotdogs and chicharron, and not even a lil bit spicy. Just sad. The verdict. Never again.

Best Rotisserie chicken in town !

Located off one of the main streets; in a shopping complex sits Orange Cow Burgers which originally started out as a Food Truck. Now, there's approximately three locations in the surrounding areas. Menu is pretty straight forward and simple. Orders are as follows: a single, double, triple and protein cow. It's fresh ingredients, all-beef patties that are cooked to medium. The best part is they have a secret speciality sauce called moolicious! We got two single patties along with two orders of fries and a pup patty (single plain patty) for the dogs. All to go. Prices are extremely reasonable in today's market. Taste was as if you made it right at your own La Casa. Only complaint was not having "enough" of that sauce to really have it stand out beyond home cooked. That said, you can also get their "loaded fries" which includes this specific sauce as well. We opted for "extra crispy" plain fries and they were really good. Service was fair enough as far as the wait ( 2 parties a head of us) and friendly staff. Great little spot if you happen through El Paso Texas or if you're local, hit them up for your own burger experience & request extra mooliscious spread of course!

I went to Franklin and a friend would take a group of us there for lunch. Every single time the burrito was delicious, and 1 burrito is enormous so that you fill yourself up and likely have half a burrito left for later. They are probably about a foot and a half long and stuffed to the gills with meat. I would guess they weigh at least a pound each. I have had the Carne Asada (my favorite), Carnitas, Mole, Chicken De., and Picadillo, and can testify that every single one of them is delicious. My friends that have had the others all claim they are equally as good. However, the best part of the burrito is the tortilla. These are made from scratch daily right in front of your eyes and they are easily the best tortillas I have ever tasted. When I moved away from El Paso every trip home I would have to stop at Alice the day I arrived and the day I left. Now that I am back living in El Paso, I make it over there at least once a month, and whenever my friends come back to town its one of the first places we visit. Alice the Burrito Lady makes a delicious, enormous, and fresh Burrito for under $5. If you are ever at the outlet mall nearby save yourself the money from the expensive frozen foodcourt food, and head on over to Alice. You won't regret it.

Let me tell you about these combos...and Mr. Combi. 7/17/21 After eating at higher end restaurants I realized I'm a simple-pleasures kinda girl. I like to talk to people as they're cooking and just the experience of getting to know people waiting in line for food. Food truck gatherings are my favorite places to get food from and El Paso has some of the best I've found anywhere in the world. The vendors take the best of the food truck scene here and add their own El Paso/Borderland friendliness reminiscent of outdoor markets I've gone to in China, Mexico, Vietnam, Taiwan, Peru, Thailand etc. The culture here is of generosity, they're proud of their food and they want to stuff your face with it. I found such a market here on the Westside tonight off Paseo Del Norte in the Brake Master lot. There was a flautas truck, Mr. Combi, who converted a VW Bus and drove it from Mexico City. His flautas (beef or potatoes) is super fresh, light, and crispy. The sauces are really good and clearly homemade. I got the beef and potatoes combo ($8) which comes with a soda. He also has one in a cup which he called a riff on Chico's tacos, the Chuco ($4), it had an amazing tomato based sauce that was out of this world. Definitely recommend this place and it was busy with people in line from Hawaii waiting to get their fix of El Paso food. Next to him was an elotes truck. I think they're called Elotes El Rey? And the sons were continuing the traditional corn on the cob and in a cup (esquites) that they learned from their dad. I didn't get to try but will do next time since a customer showed me his and it looked so good. Then there's the bacon hot dog stand, they have the hot dogs where you basically take a dog and add the whole enchilada, or kitchen sink. The owners are from Sonora and are as sweet as can be. It's crazy how much they actually fit inside the thing. You can customize it to how you like it. Definitely different from a Dodger dog, but delicious. It's $8 with a soda and chips for all that food. I can tell these trucks are a neighborhood favorite as families come over after shopping at Walmart and there's a ton of fast food around, but they represent their homemade local food well, so people find them and flock to them. They're also open super late and only gathers on Saturdays from 5pm-midnight. So for the ones looking for awesome food late at night on the Westside, this is the spot you. Come out and #supportlocal and oh I forgot they all do catering as well so you can hire them I guess for events. 7810 Paseo del Norte 7/24/21 Had to come back for their "Chuco style" flautas. They're addicting as heck! Here til 11pm tonight only.

Plus we love supporting local businesses. Immediately we were greeted and the woman answered our questions. We prefer the Green chili burger and the smash burger with an appetizer of onion rings. They brought everyone out at once- it was hot, gooey, juicy and amazing. The onion rings had the perfect crunch and were delicious. The green chili burger had a slight spice but not hot, just flavorful. I ordered the smash burger and the amount of meat on that burger was astounding. While the store front itself is a bit bare and could use some sprucing up to make it more fun or stand out, it was by far the cleanest restaurant I have ever stepped foot in. This place is wiped down after every guest very well (not just a quick wipe down but very clean) even the bathroom was extremely clean. Over all great food, quick service, clean place to eat. Would recommend but mostly for the burgers, everything else is just icing on the cake.
