I hate to leave bad reviews, but the truth is I'm so confused by the positive things I've heard about this place. I went with my friend and both of our plates were totally flavorless. The ingredients were underripe, they used that presshredded yellow cheese on everything, I really can't think of anything positive to say about the food. So bland. The service was ok, but not great. We can't be the only ones who had a negative experience here, because it was some of the worst food I've had in a while. The food was not good so I returned it and it tasted as if they just put it back on the grill, which made it tast worse. It is so disappointing that the owner stood at the counter arguing with customers. He was acting like a fool by saying rude comments and not having good customer service skills. I enjoyed this breakfast more than a Dennys or IHOP. Prices were reasonable and they were serving breakfast and lunch at 9:30am. The cheese eggs were some of the best scrambled eggs I have ever had. They were soft and cheesy. The French toast was made well and the bacon was crispy. The service was great and wait time was short. I would for sure go back here to try something else off their menu. There is seldom that you can find a great restaurant near home if you live in the Northeast side of town. Alas there is a little gem called Tejas Cafe and there food is delicious. I recently went on a Wednesday around 11:15 it wasn't busy at all. I ordered the Green Ground beef Enchiladas they were delicious I love cheese and they had the perfect amount. The waitress was friendly and attentive. As it got closer to 12 it filled ip fast inside. I would highly recommend this restaurant. read more

This restaurant has been a dyer staple for years and years! Originally a pizza inn, it still has the same booths! I felt a tiny bit nostalgic thinking back on a different time. I have to say first off, the service was excellent. Everyone was very friendly and our server was extra nice! Now on to the food since that's really what is important. The plates are average sized, delicious refried beans, dry rice,little salad. The chile relleno was perfect along with the ground beef taco. The hard part for me to write about is the red chile used in the enchiladas. I judge Mexican restaurants by their salsa, and by their red chile. The salsa was pretty good. Not erhmagerd good but good. The red chile though, was orange. And didn't have flavor. No flavor. We are hoping it was just an off day and that the chef just forgot to put her foot in it. I don't understand all of the high reviews. This restaurant was averaged at best. I had the sweet and spicy chicken sandwich which tasted good; however, it came with a tiny portion of carne asada fries which cost me about 6 bucks more. My total bill was 15 and change and I was still hungry. To be fair I had the takeaway, which in general means less food so the dining in experience probably would have been better. In conclusion, the food tasted good but at what I felt was an exorbitant price to pay for the amount of food I got. read more

I like this location as it's close to my "second home" when I'm out in El Paso. The service has always been good and the food as well. The meal always starts with chips and salsa. I tend to fill up on these, as I do like them a lot. I've tried a lot of their meals, and I seem to go back to the tacos a lot. They are fresh (and yes a wee bit greasy, but as other reviewers have stated, it's since they were just made). The meat is flavorful, I usually go with the beef, and the beans and rice are as they should be for a nice Mexican meal. If you want some local flavor when you're in El Paso, this is a good place to start. read more

inspite of various "alleged good reviews" I decided to write a review of my experience in this tiny weird little establishment. That is a shadow of Pizza Inn, it was not in all honestly remodeled to look like a Mexican restaurant. Pretty much its Still a Pizza Inn. The service is horrible. The waitresses lack enough brain space to remember the items the customers ask for. We were there this morning and the service was terrible. We asked the waitress 2x for more napkins and a water, 2 x for coffe, and 3 times for a soda. The waitress brought the napkins the coffee and the soda way at the end of our dining experience. The water never came. I cant comprehend how people say the service is great. Thats s not what we experienced. Not all that good. The waitresses spend more time greeting the regulars and hugging and kissing and shaking hands than in serving people. As if greeting everyone surpasses or is more important than the quality of service they put out. They wont change I know it as all the restaurants that get reviewed dont troll around in this site to see what is written about them. So mark my words this will continue at this weird has been pizza inn. read more

I was craving some local chow, as Im leaving for a few months and decided to try this place. Ok yeah so the taco shell was somewhat greasy as mentioned in another review but thats because it wasnt just pulled from a box and filled. The flavor was great! My chile relleno was exactly what I had been craving. The salsa was real - not poured out of a jar like so many other places - and be warned! It bites back!! The tacos were greasy, the salsa was inconsistent(one bite would be fine, the next would taste like dishwater) and the prices were not all that great. My daughter and I stopped by for a quick lunch today. Tejas Cafe was highly recommended to us by a friend and we were very happy we followed her recommendation. I ordered the number one combo plate and my daughter had the Menudo. Both orders arrived quickly and were deliciously prepared. My platter was large and tasted great. I hadn't eaten there in several years so I decided to try it again. My go-to Mexican food restaurants are Las Fuentes, Rincon de Cortez, La Malinche, and El Zarape. They all offer at least 2 lunch specials, and they include soup and a drink. Tejas Cafe's blackboard said their only lunch special that day was the chicken enchilada plate with rice & beans for $10.99, and it made no mention of soup or drink being included in the price. I tried it anyway. It was reasonably good but the bowl of salsa was half the size of other restaurants, and the rice portion was also smaller. I can't complain about the service. But as far as value for the money, Tejas falls far short of its competitors. After the tax and additional charge for the tea, my bill was over 14 bucks, and it didn't even include soup. I won't make a recommendation but I will say I won't be a regular customer of Tejas Cafe. read more

I come here every couple of weeks when I sub in one of the schools around here. This place used to be an old Pizza Hut and is right next to a Dollar Tree. The service is quick, the food is always good and homemade, and the waitress is pleasant. They have a daily $7.99 special menu which includes tacos, flautas, meat loaf and more. It comes with either tea or coffee. One of these days, I am going to try one of their big slices of homemade desserts with coffee. The place was clean and comfortable. The service was warm and friendly. The chef's salad was... edible. It's as though the chef 's disdain for salads in general were represented here. Our dish today consisted of tiny bits of iceberg, sliced cold cuts and sliced American cheese food product slices. That plus canned mushrooms. The hard boiled egg was its only saving grace. It was boiled perfectly without a trace of the ring of green around the yolk. That just shows that the cook knows what they're doing and should know better.
