Today was the first time I decided to stop in at Dollop for a cup of tea before work! I pre-ordered on the Ritual app, and it was ready by the time I got there. The workers were sooo friendly and I know this wasn't their fault, but as I started drinking the tea I realized that the tea bag that was used was ripped, so I'm pulling herbs and tea leaves out of my teeth. I unfortunately couldn't even finish my drink because it was in every sip- super bummed because the tea itself (Jasmine Green) was super yummy! I love Dollop's branding and aesthetic! It's a cute little coffee shop near the office I wanted to give a try. They had a great variety of drinks on their menu, including a matcha option! The food menu is limited to an assortment of baked items and bagels. My basic order at any new coffee shop is an iced caramel latte (light ice). For $8 I did not think the latte was particularly good (and definitely not sweet enough if that's important to you - it is to me so I probably won't be returning). The packaging was also not great. Dollop was close to our hotel so we stopped in for coffee and a quick bite. It's a spacious and clean space with some seating. I got a cinnamon honey latte which was delicious and perfect for fall. There weren't many food options but my husband and I got breakfast sandwiches. I got egg, cheese, tomato and avocado. The bagels tasted homemade but they both automatically came with a spicy aioli. I hate spicy and aioli but that was mostly my fault for not realizing it came on it unless you say no (though I think all places should ask upfront). They nicely remade our sandwiches but then forgot my cheese. I appreciate the option to add avocado but it's difficult to eat on a bagel (would be better as an avocado spread instead of chunks). I love Dollop! This location is compact and clean. I ordered the Sweet Matcha green tea and it is delicious. It's not bitter at all and just the right temperature for me to drink right when I get the cup. The baristas are nice and personable. They make cute latte art which I noticed is common in Chicago. I will keep returning. When I'm in a rush, I like to use the Ritual app. My coffee is always waiting for me when I pick it up. read more

I stopped in after dropping off some paperwork for my lawyer. I decided on the dirty chai, I had never heard or tried one before. A dirty chai is a chai tea with a shot of espresso, why have I never heard of this wonderful magnificent concoction. When you check in on Yelp, you get a sandwich for $5, regular priced is around $9. I will definitely come back and try a sandwich and get another dirty chai with coconut milk. Yum!!!! read more

I stopped here with time to kill, and the staff person was very friendly and helpful (5 stars for her!). A pour over coffee was expertly ground and poured. What may not be obvious is there is little to no seating, unlike the other Dollop shops I've visited. This is a small lobby shop, for pickup primarily, so I removed a star for lack of seating. I can't hate on Starbucks too much as I mostly liked working there in college, but it's nice to have a non-national chain option so close to my office. To start, the coffee is really good. I've also had a turkey sandwich once and it was delicious. I will definitely come back for these things at some point. While the food and coffee are good, service here could be drastically improved. I know this location is new, but they only had two people working there this morning. The line was large and I ended up waiting nearly 10 minutes for a drip coffee (they ran out and had to brew more). When I'm trying to get to work in the morning, I want to be able to stop in and get a coffee in under 5 minutes. And I can do that at every other coffee shop nearby. I am fine with waiting for a latte or coffee brewed in an alternative method (pour over, etc.), but if I choose a drip coffee, the expectation is that I will receive it essentially instantaneously. If they had another person working here during the morning, there would be extra hands making sure that there's enough coffee, people are moved through the lines quickly, etc. Also, the people who work here are fairly miserable. They are far too cool to smile, or say hello, or say thank you, or even call your drink out at an audible level. Being a hipster with a cool haircut does not excuse you from the general rules of customer service - I lived in hipster-ridden Nashville for many years and the hipsters there were, for the most part, actually nice. A good spot for a morning latte in light of a fairly standard set of options nearby (Starbucks, DD, Peets) - unfortunately no loyalty or rewards program but a good relationship with local Chicago suppliers / wholesale distributor Metropolis Coffee which is a good differentiator for those who have an appreciation of those blends. Last time I was there I ordered an iced Mocha and as expected it was consistent in quality and taste as other Dollops. Certainly a good, differentiated choice in the area but it does nonetheless have some competition for espresso given that it's located near the heart of the Loop. read more

I ordered an Americano. The coffee is bitter so I won't go there again. The service was not warm and a bit confusing. I walked in, there were multiple people waiting and it wasn't clear how one got to a point of ordering. Recommendations for service would be to say "hello" when someone walks in and to have a clear line. Recommendations for coffee would be new coffee. I heard how great the coffee was but the service of the two young ladies working there was horrible! I ordered a Nutella Mocha but it tasted like milk & coffee. I asked why I didn't taste Nutella & with a smirk asked if I wanted more. When I said yes & sat my cup down she looked at me in disgust & said, remove your cap I don't want to touch anything that your mouth has been on. Dollop Coffee is on the first floor of my office building so I go there quite frequently, perhaps 2-3 times a week. I'm not a coffee fanatic but sometimes a good cup beats the drip stuff in my office. Most of the time my experience at Dollop has been a good one. The staff are generally quite friendly and the coffee is always good. I've never really had a bad cup to be honest. I have had one negative experience from a customer service point of view that sticks with me and if that staff member is working behind the counter I often go someplace else. I once went downstairs with a colleague to get a cup of coffee. I ordered a mocha and my colleague got a cappuccino. While we're waiting the woman behind the counter called out my mocha so I picked it up. It tasted good and it was just what I ordered. A few minutes late she called out a latte and my colleague and I kept chatting, thinking nothing about it. About 5-10 minutes later they had called out other orders but not our cappuccino. I asked the staff where the cappuccino was and the woman behind the counter pointed at the latte. I told her we ordered a cappuccino and that she had said that was a latte and she got very defensive. To clarify I then asked her if it was a latte or a cappuccino, a pretty basic question. Instead of answering she just shrugged and said "I make a lot of cups of coffee." My colleague picked up the cup and we walked away. She tasted it and confirmed it was a cappuccino, but now it was cold. Will I go back? Yes, but only because of proximity and the fact that winter is coming and I don't want to walk the block to Starbucks all the time. read more

Great latte and with unsweetened almond milk! The food is overpriced, I had a $6.50 quiche, but it was so good, just wish there was enough food to fill me up. Low score because the woman who was helping me was rude and said I asked too many questions. I hadn't been before and I like to know what was in my drink and the quiche. Dollop is, without a doubt, my favorite coffee spot near work. I pass Caffe Rom, Starbucks, and Argo Tea on my way to Dollop, without a second thought. Dollop's cappuccinos have such velvety foam, and the coffee is delicious. Unfortunately, they have no seating, which is annoying since I'd love to come here with a friend or colleague sometimes - this spot is best for getting a cup and going back to the office. Also, wherever they get their chocolate chip cookies from - WOW. They are amazing. I know they also have interesting sandwiches they make fresh, but I haven't tried any. They sound great though. One negative: Samsung pay doesn't work with their credit card scanner. read more

I ordered the Turkey sammie - OMG - it was probably the best sandwich I have had in a long time and the little container of potato salad that came with it was the bomb! This place is a rip off I got small soy milk late $4.70 whatttt the cup was so small it's ridiculous and they charge extra .70 for soy milk I have never seen that in my life. soy milk is not more expensive then milk, its an assult to get charged extra for soy milk for people who are alergic to milk. Really good coffee! It's a nice "local" option from the plethora of Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts stores in the Loop. I really like everything from the drip coffee to the variety of espresso drinks. I even like some breakfast food items. My biggest complaints are: 1. They use the POS touch screen that guilts you into giving a tip. I'm not at all opposed to tipping a really good barista from time to time, but I do believe it should come across as more of an option like most coffee houses. 2. The baristas could be a little more friendly and smile on occasion. Overall, this is a great addition to this part of the Loop. read more
