A very modern and minimalist coffee shop! One of my friends recommended it, and told me it was her go to. After getting it, I can understand why! I got the brown sugar maple latte. It was really tasty (I love a dessert coffee). Despite it being the middle of the work day and very crowded, our drinks were still ready quickly! The vibes are loud but they had good music playing. There's nowhere to sit, so it's definitely more of a grab-and-go spot. Service was kind and patient (8/10). Drinks came out pretty fast. The Strawberry Matcha (4/10) still tasted good, but there was barely any matcha flavor. I mostly tasted strawberry, oat milk, and water. I need my matcha to actually taste like matcha. The Black Sesame Latte (9.6/10) was the clear winner. Sadly, the cold foam had mostly melted by the time I drank it, but the drink itself was PERFECT. The black sesame flavor wasn't overpowering, it wasn't too sweet, and I could still taste the espresso without it being too strong. small, minimal coffee shop with no seating. i came by once a few months ago but sadly it was closed, so i was excited to come try it this time. i got the strawberry matcha latte with oat milk, which came out to ~$8. there were 2 size options for 12oz or 16oz and the 12oz was $6.50 while the 16oz was $7 so of course i got the 16oz option. the latte was ready within just a few minutes and was looking very pretty. the matcha itself was very good, i opted for the sweetened version and it was delicious. update: i think next time ill maybe ask for it to be less sweet because after drinking about half of it, it became a bit TOO sweet for me (user error) read more

Another great cafe discovered close to downtown chicago! It's located right by the opera Chicago in a small shop. Spanish latte was delicious and they also sell variety of cocoa chocolate bar that looked super interesting with cute packaging. Staff are very friendly and efficient with fast service. Pretty good coffee spot. It gets busy! I was the first order of the morning and had to wait almost 10mins due to mobile orders. Didn't realize it would take that long as I was visiting for a work trip and needed to get to a 7:15am meeting. Pretty simple inside (not a bad thing). But you can't work from there. My experience was great, this place is extremely busy. Yet, they do not rush the extraction of espresso shots, and they take their time with steaming to ensure perfect accuracy in each cup of coffee. That is what I truly appreciate from this place. The art of pouring a perfect drink that pair as well with a nice day. The ambiance is simple and it gets the job done. Cute, minimalistic coffee shop right in the opera house. Great place to go if you're working downtown. Nowhere to sit, and gets extremely busy but the line moves fast and the employees are all really nice. I got the black sesame latte with oat milk, 16oz. Excellent matcha - now a top on my list for Chicago. Tried it unsweetened (which not many places do because they use premade mixes) with strawberry and it was the perfect sweetness level. This is a grab and go spot.. no seats or space to sit. Unfortunate but it was good enough that I'd return for sure. read more

My journey to taste all the cappuccinos in chicago lead me here... the atmosphere was very clean and modern. Service was pretty straight forward and they had quite the set up with the baristas. i was excited to try their cappuccino. it comes in this sleek black cup and the the frothy design was elegant. however i was really disappointed... it lacked flavor and depth. I was handed a warm milk. No bitterness whatsoever. the milk was frothed delicately but it couldn't save this disappointing cap. overall do not recommend for Cappuccinos. maybe their other drinks are great. read more

I work across the street and learned about this Coffeeshop from my interns, so you know it is trendy! There were a lot of young people getting coffee on a Thursday morning when I was there, but my coffee was made very quickly. One note is that there is not seating and it was quite crowded; this is not a Coffeeshop where you could park with your laptop and work all day. Great latte! As the name, it truly is just a great espresso and milk. They have fun syrup and featured flavor options in addition to the basics. If you're passing through the area or find yourself in the civic opera building, definitely stop in! It's hidden into the building and definitely a pickup spot - not a place you can come hang out or get work done. read more

Absolutely the best coffee in the area. What made the experience even more exceptional was the team behind the bar. Not only did they serve an incredible espresso and milk coffee, but they also took the time to walk me through the origin of the beans and their brewing process. You could tell they genuinely care about their craft and take pride in every cup they serve. Espresso was rich and well-balanced, with bright notes that were perfectly complemented by the smoothness of the milk (I got almond milk, which often gets messed up). It's rare to find a spot where both the product and the people are this dialed in! Great experience all around. Will be back for sure! read more

Espresso and Milk has the greatest cold brew in the history of the world (regular cold brew and the nitro)! I stop by any and every time I'm downtown. The baristas are super nice and super cool! Their seasonal lattes are great too, especially with pistachio milk. Love suggesting this place to my friends, coworkers, and clients if they find themselves in the Loop because I know they will get a great coffee, and great coffee leads to great days! read more

I would say the matcha here is near perfect. I got the iced matcha latte with strawberry and pistachio milk. First off, the flavor profile was one of the best I've had. The matcha seemed high quality, and I appreciated they made it correctly by whisking it so that it was smooth. The strawberry was perfectly sweetened, not sour. The only downside is the cost (close to $10), however for me it was worth it. read more

It's sooooo great! There is a reason why there is always a line. I mean this quite literally. I've been there early morning, mid-morning and in the afternoon and there's always a handful of people ahead of me. The espresso is always expertly pulled. The have some fun house made syrups and seasonal specials of that is more your vibe. Let it be heard: there is clearly a demand for more third wave coffee in the loop! read more

A couple years ago I came here to get a cold brew, and I forget what happened - either my credit card wouldn't work or I forgot it - the owner gave me the coffee and told me to pay later that week. That's community in the middle of the big city. I came in the next day, paid and got another. Hope they're doing great here. read more

Espresso and Milk came up as a short walk away from my hotel, so I walked over for an early afternoon pick me up before I headed to the convention center. It's inside the opera house, so if you don't see an actual storefront, that's why. The coffee here is very good, baristas were nice. I got their Cardamom Rose latte and it was a perfect balance between the two flavors. It did take a while to get my order, but the service was very friendly. Probably the best coffee shop in the city. You can't sit here, but their light and dark roast are unreal. Ask for the flamed orange mocha! If you want third wave coffee, nothing is better. It's so refreshing to get a cappuccino and not have it be all milk but actually be legit. read more

This is probably one of my top coffee shops in Chicago. This place is on point. While my husband likes a traditional latte, I'm a matcha person & it's hard to find an actual legit matcha latte in Chicago. Yes, there are some places but they aren't using quality matcha or know how to properly prepare it. This place does. Their espresso based & matcha based options are both amazing. They have interesting specials utilizing unique syrups/ingredients all the time that are not your usual basic options, I'm talking cool sh*t. I love that. Just highly recommend. This is one of my personal favorites period. And I love the added eye candy of them being at the bottom of the civic opera building. Just can't go wrong here. read more

I love espresso and milk's bougie take on coffee. This is a small coffee shop in the civic opera building. They have hardly any seating, it's more like a to go coffee shop. The service is fast. The baristas are sweet and nice to talk to for recommendations. The ambience is very modern and chic with only blacks and whites. I tried their limited menu option beverage called root beer espresso. Espresso and Milk is my GO TO coffee spot. The line can get long but they offer ordering ahead and they never rush on the quality of the drink. I love their iced lattes (I always order a small with an extra shot because I don't like my coffee too milky) but today I got a hot flat white and that was perfect too. Not to gas them up too much but even the temperature was perfect. Didn't burn my mouth or have to wait to drink. Chocolate croissant was AMAZING! Didn't take a pic because I ate it so fast. I decided to check this place out after seeing it on social media since it's on my way to work. Against my better judgement, I decided to check it out even though I saw the swarm of people. I figured, it's just coffee, how long can the wait be...Oh, it was BAD. I waited 25 min for a latte. The thing is I saw some people get their coffee who had come AFTER me..and they were NOT mobile orders, so of course, that added to the wait...(and annoyed me) It was just a bit too chaotic...Coffee, when I finally got it, was okay but certainly not worth 25 min wait for it. read more

This is a mellow, laid back juice bar where once can simply study or simply people watch like I did. I ended up sitting here solo for about 30 - 40 minutes people watching lol! Espresso and Milk in the Loop is a slick little coffee bar tucked into the Civic Opera House, perfect for a quick downtown boost. I grabbed a Frangipane latte and their ponche latte this morning, and both were tasty, Frangipane had that subtle almond vibe, and the ponche had a cozy, spiced kick. The space is next-level minimalist, super clean black-and-white aesthetic, but zero seating, so it's strictly grab-and-go. Would love a couple stools someday, but honestly, this spot nails the downtown caffeine hit every time. Definitely hitting it again next week. read more
