I've been coming to Floyd for the past 15 years, and Dogtown used to be a staple. Unfortunately, it's gone seriously downhill. The vibe just feels off now and what once felt welcoming and authentic feels more exclusive and self-important. :( The service is especially disappointing. You can stand at the counter forever waiting for someone to even acknowledge you. Basic hospitality goes a long way, and it's frustrating when staff can't even acknowledge you with a simple "we will be with you shortly" or even offer a simple smile. There's an attitude from some of the front-of-house staff that comes across like they've "arrived" and are above basic customer service. Floyd has always been about community and authenticity, and it's disappointing to see a place that once embodied that lose sight of what made it special. read more

BEWARE DOG OWNERS AND SERVICE DOG HANDLERS When we arrived at Dogtown Roadhouse in Floyd, VA, my husband brought his federally protected service dog. Upon arrival, the hostess informed us that service dogs were not allowed inside the restaurant and directed us to sit on the outdoor porch instead. As soon as we reached the porch area, two unleashed dogs--a German Shepherd and a blond pit bull mix--charged at my husband and his Golden Retriever service dog. During the attack, my husband was bitten on the hand, and the service dog was bitten on the neck and pinned to the ground. The hostess stated that she witnessed the entire incident. We immediately notified the manager, James, and contacted law enforcement to file a police report. The owner of the attacking dogs left the property within minutes of the attack. What was equally disturbing was the response from management. When we brought the attack, the injuries, and our concerns to the manager's attention, we felt the situation was largely dismissed rather than addressed with the seriousness it deserved. The response we received gave us the impression that the attack and its consequences were not considered the restaurant's responsibility. Afterward, we asked management why unleashed dogs were permitted in a public dining area. We were told that the dogs belonged to "good people" and that the restaurant does not enforce leash requirements for customers' dogs. What is particularly concerning is that the restaurant's website states: "Well-behaved, leashed dogs are welcome to join you at outdoor tables on the covered porch while you enjoy your meal." Additionally, we will be filing a complaint regarding the restaurant's refusal to accommodate a service dog indoors, as service animals are protected under federal law. This was an extremely upsetting and preventable situation. We are disappointed by how the matter was handled and by the apparent lack of enforcement of the restaurant's own stated leash policy. Based on our experience, we will never return and would strongly encourage dog owners and service dog handlers to use caution when visiting this establishment. read more

We were in town recently and had a late lunch here. A large place with seating inside and out, with a large stage on one end. A pizza kitchen on the left as you walk in and a long bar on the right. We were greeted shortly after walking in, within a couple minutes. There were only a few people when we entered, but it filled up quickly by the time we left. Our server who also sat us, had menu in hand with plates, cutlery and napkins. She returned a few minutes later and took our drink orders along with an appetizer. We started with the pretzel with marinara and spicy mustard. It was fresh baked and deliciously good. A nice consistency with just enough course salt, and both dipping sauces had their own unique twists with the pretzel. A good start. After giving the menu a good review. we opted for the build your own pizza with marinara sauce, mushrooms, banana peppers, black olives, artichoke hearts and fresh mozzarella. It was a pretty good pie, a nice thin crust with good char from the oven, decent toppings but a little thin of ingredients considering the size and cost of the pie. It did not really look like any marinara sauce was used or if it was it was only a couple tablespoons. Same on the other ingredients. Only a couple artichoke hearts chopped up, along with I don't believe would amount to more than a single banana pepper chopped up in total. Again the flavor was good, but the scrimping on toppings it felt a little short changed for the price paid. We ordered the baked chocolate chip cookie with ice cream, a 6" round cast iron skillet with a freshly baked cookie and a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. We have eaten at Dogtown many, many times through the years. This past experience wasn't the greatest I'm sad to say. It was a normal sized crowd when we arrived, and we were seated immediately. We ordered waters and my husband ordered a beer. Drinks came quickly but that was the only water we had. At one point I gave up and refilled our waters myself with a pitcher from the servers station. We perused the menu even though we knew what we wanted. I'd just like to say it may be time to put some money into new menus. They were both so dirty, not especially appetizing. I had the smash burger a few months ago and loved it so we both knew what we were having. The burger (and fries) were tasty but the patty was incredibly small. Tiny!!! Very disappointing, especially since we were headed to music later and wouldn't get an opportunity to eat anything else for some time. We will be back. I came here for a rehearsal dinner and it exceeded my expectations! We had a group of 20-30 people so we ordered our food in advance and everything was ready for us almost immediately. The service was great too! As some of our pizzas were finished the staff was really quick to replace them with a new, fresh, hot pizza. I cannot believe I grew up in Blacksburg and have never eaten here until the other day. This place was so delicious and a lot of fun. They have a wood fired oven and the pizza was so so good. They did not skimp on the cheese which is always a plus for me. Sometimes with wood fired pizza ovens, the crust can become a little too charred for me but that didn't happen here & the crust had a great flavor. I was here for a wedding rehearsal dinner so I got to try a few different pizzas but I think the classic cheese was my favorite. I also tried one with banana peppers and bacon which was really delicious. Their pizza menu has so many unique options though so I can't wait to go back and try some new ones. They also have a nice variety of beers and live music! This place was completely packed but the service was still great so I was really impressed. Parking can be a little difficult because it's street parking but there are a ton of street parking spots. Since I was there for a rehearsal dinner, we were able to reserve some tables ahead of time & make sure our pizzas were ready by the time we arrived, but I know otherwise we would have had to wait quite a while since it was so packed - it's definitely worth the wait though. Ordered a regular classic cheese pizza yesterday. Well first of all I could swear the pizzas are at least 2" smaller now and the price is higher. The sauce, which there was hardly any, had absolutely no taste whatsoever. The mozzarella was also tasteless and the crust not much better. Oregano???? Grated romano???? This is the last chance I will give this place. Finding decent pizza here is very difficult and being from the tri-state area may make us picky about our pizza but paying almost 16 dollars for a 12 inch pizza that had absolutely no flavor at all is not something I will be doing again. read more

Holy guacamole were we impressed by this little pizza restaurant in Floyd. If you've been to Floyd or the surrounding area you know there isn't a whole lot to choose from or really any food in the area that is top notch, well dogtown took the award for the best place in Floyd. We had been told from multiple people to check it out when we go up for the weekend to visit so we finally got around to trying it out yesterday. We went about 12 pm on a Saturday which was fine there wasn't a whole lot of people there and we didn't have to wait but around 1 it became really busy with a line out the door. Granted we did go up the weekend that all the fall leaves were at peak color so the whole town was busy. On to the food, I was blown away by the garlic knots. I wish I had some now to eat. They had huge chunks of garlic on top and were nice and warm and the dough was very fresh. The pizza was just your typical pizza cooked in a wood fire oven but still very good for the small town of Floyd. Needless to say I cannot wait to go back (mainly for the garlic knots) but next time I will step outside the box and try a different pizza. We always play it safe when we go to a new restaurant and order something we know we will like but this isn't a restaurant you have to play it safe at, the flavor is PHENOMENAL! They will tax you an additional $5 (for dough that does not appear to be made in house) and to top it off, well they don't top you off. I ordered a veggie pizza ($16) on Gluten Free Crust and barely had 3 mushroom slices, a piece of a red onion and a couple of peppers scattered on the pizza. Im not one to complain or send something back to the kitchen but I was not impressed and my Partner was so frustrated that he actually pointed the lack of toppings out to out waiter and he just shrugged at us walked away. For what came out to be a $21 pizza, you would have thought they would have been generous with the toppings. We haven't eaten here since. Major rip off. Come for the Bloody's and Beers. I was happy to find it because we had our dogs with us and they were very accommodating to pets (we were able to find seats outside, they brought us water bowls, etc.). The actual space is huge and really unique with a big stage and tons of potential for performances and other fun, I'm sure it's a big draw during Floyd Fest. We ordered the sweet potato fries, which were great, and the veggie pizza, which was a little mediocre. The beer choices were excellent- I fell in love with the pumpkin ale that they had on offer and was pleased to find that they had a lot of local brews. Highly recommend this great local spot. We stumbled across this gem after an almost 8 hour travel day on our way to NC. Service was a little slow at first, but the food and cocktails was well worth the wait! My boyfriend had a pepperoni pizza (he's a plain Jane) and I got the creamy pig pizza. Both were 10/10 on cook and taste. I also got the specialty cocktail, the blue ridge twilight, which was Tito's Vodka, lemon juice, honeysuckle syrup, and a Prosecco topper. Pizza time! Dogtown is an anchor business along Floyd's main downtown strip and is located right next to a park (complete with band shell, I think it's used for Floyd Fest). I mention the park because, whole they do have a nice amount for patio seating (open during coronavirus), taking your pizza to the park is another great option if you have a large party or just need more distance. At lunchtime on a Saturday, they had a great 2/$20 pizza deal, of which we took advantage! Veggie pie was delicious, as was the "margherita" (which sacrilegiously comes with pesto instead of fresh basil, but ok fine). Beer prices were higher than we expected for Floyd, but they had at least one super cheap special as well as several local craft brews on tap.
