I have never been to a bluegrass concert in my life, and this was a great first experience. I came on a Friday evening and it was packed. There wasn't any seating by the time my friends and I got there, but it was still a good time. The store has a ton of cool antique candies/other goodies. Also, the ice cream - I want to give them a shoutout for having multiple dairy-free options for my lactose-intolerant self. I went with the oatmilk chocolate chip, which was absolutely delicious. Would highly recommend giving this spot a visit!

This place really impressed me. Driving 1.5 hours from my new home having not had the best food experiences I was not expecting the flavor that came out of this place. Not to mention the ambiance is pure old fashioned country store. I wasn't sure what to expect when beans were being sold as an entree but YUM!!!! And it was a great serving. Mac and cheese beat my test. Pasta was not mushy, there was TONS of garlic and lots of cheese. Also, a great portion. The Turkey and cranberry sandwich was good. The compote was a bit too much for me as it took over the whole sandwich. Felt like I needed some cheese or something to offset the sweet and tangy from the compote. I didn't get to try the tuna salad or grilled cheese but I included them in the photos. They got rave reviews from my party and every once was devoured even by the children. Live music happens on the indoor and outdoor stages and there was plenty of seating. Soda fountain had some off brand sodas which I now wish I would have taken a picture of cause I want more of it. Cinnamon coke, ginger beer, and other different flavors. The people there were awesome. Everyone has a smile and food came out hot, fresh and quickly. Not sure I would drive down unless there was an event but I would definitely stop by again if I was in town.

We came here on a Saturday afternoon to have a piece of apple pie with coffee and to watch live music. The musicians were very talented, after 330 they were breaking down the tables to make room for the evening dance lineup. The apple pie was delicious and staff warmed it up for me. They were out of decaf coffee and made some fresh coffee for me. A very quaint store with a country style food menu, desserts, and a gift area.

We stopped by for ice cream and cream soda after seeing the cute storefront! We were so happy with the delicious treats we had to stop by more than once during our stay in the area! Rachel is lovely and greeted us with such kindness and joy, her energy really makes this soda/ice cream shop a true gem "Breaking Up Christmas" is an amazing option if you enjoy York peppermint patties as much as I do! Another great option is the "Cacklin-Hen" for any eggnog lovers out there. So many amazing options to try! Very much looking forward to stopping by on our next trip to the area!

I love this place!!! The grilled cheese is to die for. Every time I come here they are so nice and there's a nice little shop inside too. Also they have live performances from time to time! Love it!

Floyd Country Store is a Fine Find Our family took a drive down to Floyd from Christiansburg on this Fourth of July to visit this little slice of Americana. The store is situated in the middle of its namesake town, Floyd, about a half an hour south of I-81. We went there for lunch and to take in what downtown Floyd had to offer. The store is a conglomeration of a sandwich shop, dessert shop, candy store, soda fountain, and an eclectic assortment of various merchandise. To top it all off, it turns into a live music venue on a weekly basis. That said, we were here for lunch and to shop around. While they do have an assortment of local comfort food, our crew opted for a few of their sandwiches, all of which were very tasty. I had the cran-turkey sandwich, which is a grilled turkey, cheese, onion, and cranberry sauce sandwich...very good tasting. We finished up with a couple of homemade desserts - key lime pie and apricot-almond cheesecake, plus a sampling from then ice cream shop. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The overall atmosphere was great. If you are in the general area, it is worth the visit.

Just what you would imagine a country store to be. The place takes you back into time but in a great way. There's lot of little gifts and stuff to buy but there's also a pretty nice looking menu. It was a cloudy day that looked like it was going to rain, so I went with a nice Grown Up Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup. The bread was cooked to perfection and there was so much flavor within the grilled cheese. I thought the olives would have taken over, but it was balanced out. The tomato soup was some of the best I've ever had and you could tell it was made from scratch. The only reason I'm giving this place 4 stars is because I was not greeted by a single person in there. They said hi to my girlfriend but pretty much ignored the fact that I was there.

Located on an adorable main street in Floyd, this store offers excellent sandwiches and artisan goods. I stopped here on the drive back to Richmond from southwest VA, and picked up a sandwich and some snacks to go. I also picked up some postcards and some artisan chocolate and soaps from the general store side. The turkey sandwich I ordered was delicious - fresh and well filled. It came with a crunchy fill pickle an a pile of chips. It was a reasonable price (under $10),. I wanted to try some of their soups or mac and cheese, but those are much harder to eat in the car. Staff were wearing masks, most of the tables for dine in were closed off for social distancing. This little gem is the heart of main street, offering live bluegrass music on Friday nights. Maybe I'll visit for that after the pandemic...

Cute store/cafe/music venue in the heart of small town Floyd. I liked the key lime pie, and I also bought some jam and bar soap for gifts. The employees were friendly, food and drip coffee were decent, and prices were reasonable. Enjoyed my visit, and the live music was a nice bonus!

    Great food and bakery, too.

Seriously, or nearly so, think how much better, as compared to standard issue childbearing, grafting would work for humans, like first of all no more Lamaze breathing classes for dads (after all of which are done, many moms go for the drugs anyway). then as one generation runs out of things to do in life, rather than uproot the whole parent just insert the next generation into the trunk, thereby hopefully eliminating adolescence when most of the body develops. Fungi and molds are even better as they mature in hours, are much more resilient and easier to distribute plus they're totally anonymous: parents don't have to see how their best intentions didn't bear fruit, and their offspring have no one else to blame. the spores of these life forms are quite durable, even tolerate the conditions found in outer space. Future myco-human lifeforms could be launched by the billions from earth unceremoniously, hoping a few might land somewhere favorable to germinate rather than being sucked into and incinerated by a star. And no alphabet or arithmetic to learn in grammar school. Being a family mammal on the other hand has major downsides. an example being that if you're known to be ever-ready to venture wherever someone will buy your plane ticket, they call upon you to go see how cousin Luke or uncle Amos or whoever is doing. The boring relatives stay put back home but the black sheep migrate over the years to places you would likely not otherwise go. So it is that I was driving through central Virginia on a moonless night, on just such a family mission and frankly need a roadie, a restorative for my lagging spirits, which is why I turned off the state highway and onto a county road to see where it went, and came to this town which is how I happened onto rocky mount's finest establishment, The Alley Cat Bar. It's great to find places like this and is the reason I prefer to drive in unknown territories using old outdated AAA maps instead of gps. Not every side road exit brings you to an historic and quaintly cool town like Rocky Mount, but it's the occasional one that ends in Rocky Mount that keeps you in the wanderlust game. It' was just what I was looking for at this moment, a break from driving the dark rural Virginia roads, local music and a friendly beer crowd. I was ready. Most small towns, not much to do, so can't be too choosey but lucky here to have this place, among others by the way but none so much my kind, live music potentially a little rough around the edges crowd but, after all, it's central va. After being awarded the Triad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award at the Yelpies Award Ceremony last year, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, I decided that it would be appropriate this year to go back to this restaurant and write a follow-up review, since my initial review was one of my reviews that contributed to me obtaining this highly esteemed Award. I arrived on a Thursday evening with a 6:15pm reservation which I'm glad I had made because later I found out that this place gets to be a full house on Thursdays. A young lady host greeted and welcomed me at the Host's station as soon as I arrived. She checked my reservation and had my table all ready for me. Located in the middle of this very popular Restaurant Bar, gave me a nice view of the entire place, and with a light high above I had a perfect lighting to photograph my drink and food as part of my review of the place. My server Jillian arrived soon after I was seated. She had a wonderful personality and welcomed me with a friendly smile and very pleasant attitude. After answering me some questions about their Mocktails, I ended up ordering their Raspberry Burro. For dinner I ordered their BBQ Bacon Chicken Kababs with a side of their special fries and a salad. While I was waiting for my food to arrive I observed the place quickly filling up and I found out that tonight was Music Bingo and Live Music at 9:30pm with no cover charge. It brought me back to my college days in Boston and Cambridge, Massachusetts, where the night life was a thing to look forward to. Suddenly I discovered the key of Martin's popularity and the important role it plays in contributing to making the City of Roanoke a Star City indeed. I enjoyed my drink and the Chicken Kababs with the side of special fries were amazingly delicious, as well as the salad. They have a good variety of quality items on their menu and their chefs amazingly deliver. I invite you to read my first review where I celebrate their Cuban Sandwich and Slaw, and view my photographs that accompany my review. What a night. Besides the food, I enjoyed playing the Music Bingo, which one of the card titles was The 1970's. One of the best years of my life, when I attended High School in San Juan, Puerto Rico and College in Boston and Cambridge, Massachusetts. During that time I also won a Saltwater Fishing Tournament at the young age of 17 by catching a 405 pound Blue Marlin off the coast of Isla Verde, Puerto Rico. It was the best of times for me. My server Jillian provided exceptional customer service, checking on me at the appropriate times. For dessert I ordered their Glazed Doughnut Bread Pudding, and it was so good, I can't wait to return to have it again. What an extraordinary dining experience I had that night. I highly recommend this restaurant and bar for when you feel like having a good time, alone or with family and good friends. I promise you will be able to sabor what a Five Star review is all about, and experience for yourselves why Martin's is one of the City of Roanoke's most precious gems.

After having been selected as number 4 of Yelp's Top 50 most prolific Elites of 2025, a year when I also was awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Photographer of the Year Award at their Yelpies 2025 Award Ceremony, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, and where last year I was awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Yelper of the Year Award, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. And Stellina, in Downtown Roanoke, is a perfect example. Stellina (which means "Little Star" in Italian) is a secretly hidden little bar within the very popular Italian Restaurant Fortunato, but with its own entrance through a door on the right of the restaurant. Its only indication of its name is a small letter board behind one of its front windows, stating its name and hours of operation. This bar was constructed with reclaimed wood from the Old Crow distillery and opened in December of 2016. Since then its gain a reputation as the ideal spot for hand-crafted cocktails in a cozy and intimate atmosphere. It seats only about 20 people, with 7 at the bar. Not that long ago it gained recognition by being featured in the New York Post as one of the world's best small bars. All that I can tell you about this place doesn't do justice to the experience of visiting the place for the very first time. After stepping inside, I was mesmerized by the simple yet effective, elegance of the establishment, complimented by the beautifully dressed young lady, server/bartender. Her elegant style and mysterious personality contributed to the character and ambiance of this one-of-a-kind relaxing place. The very hospitable young lady welcomed me and handed me the drink menu, while asking me if I also planned to dine there. I answered in the affirmative and asked her if they had any Mocktails. To my surprise, she pointed out that one side of the Drinks Menu were all non-alcoholic drinks, including mocktails, bottled mocktails, wine by the glass, and beers. I ordered one of the mocktails and by the end of my meal, I think I must have tried a few. She then brought me Fortunato's menu, and I ordered the Fritto Misto as appetizer and the Pork Milanese as my main entrée. I enjoyed both course immensely. A lady employee brought me the food from Fortunato's Restaurant through a door that led to the restroom area of Fortunato's Restaurant, pass the kitchen. For dessert, that Which I consider the "Grand Finale" of a wonderful fine dining experience, I ordered their Tiramisu and Hot Chocolate. They were absolutely mouthwatering. I highly recommend this place and can't wait to return in the near future.

We had originally settled on Fortunato's, but upon arrival at 6pm, the pleasant hostess had informed us that there was not a table available until 8:30. While she was seeing if there was space at the bar, another young woman said, "There's a table at Stellina!" We already knew that Stellina shared the same menu, so we were pleased to walk over there. A young man greeted us and said, "Sit wherever you like!" But there was only one table available. It was a great table, positioned by a window that let us see a glimpse of the city. Cocktail menus were already on our tables, and the young man asked if we wanted food menus as well. We said yes, and ordered The Obituary, a gin drink, a vodka drink that I cannot remember the name of, the house bread, Lumache a Forno, and Bucatini all'Arrabiatta. While waiting for our food, I got to admire the space. It was a small space decorated with a beautiful purple-lit wallpaper, christmas lights, and a colorful overhead light. The room was dark, but our table was tastefully lit with a small lamp. The wallpaper looked as if it had some floral print on it, but upon closer inspection, it was actually a collection of people's faces, which was charming. But perhaps the most striking element of this bar's atmosphere was the music. I immediately heard a trippy beat that was familiar to me, and upon shazaming it, found out it was Interia Creeps, by Massive Attack, one of my favorite 90s trip-hop bands. The music continued to impress me, and has inspired to start a spotify playlist called Stellina's Songs. Some of the standouts include: Army of Me - Bjork Never Let Me Down - Depeche Mode Lovesong - The Cure It's No Good - Depeche Mode The ambience of this dark, 90s music paired perfectly with the dark yet pleasant atmosphere of the restaurant. Our drinks were cold, our food was hot, and it was all quite delicious. I got to try both dishes and both drinks, and was perfectly satisfied. The gentleman that greeted us checked on us frequently, as well as another woman. Overall, the experience was classy and pleasant. The restaurant seemed popular among an older crowd. Nevertheless, this is a great place for anyone of any age to grab a drink or a bite to eat while feeling like an elegant member of society. This is truly a gem that Roanoke has to offer, and my experience could not have been greater.

The flavor reminded me of the biscuits my mom used to make when I was a kid. Delicious! We highly recommend this restaurant and know you will find a little bit of something for everyone here. The restaurant has plenty of room for all diners, inside or on the large wraparound porch. The food is served in large portions and the service is second to none. We will definitely be coming back the next time we are in the area.
