What a great find in the town of Floyd! I took my nephew here when we were on our way to visit VA Tech. The service was impeccable. Every person jumped in to either bring us food, drinks or check in on us. They even chatted about college with him. We felt like family. I usually say what is special about breakfast? It's difficult to mess up. I got the special corned beef hash breakfast and it was simple and delicious. I loved every single bite. They also had homemade strawberry jam which was perfect. Very friendly service and a short wait, even though we went on a busy Saturday morning. The food was not fancy, but it was delicious southern cooking. The biscuits and gravy were delicious. Bacon was excellent, the country ham was tasty . The only suggestion I would have is stronger coffee. The atmosphere had a good down home feel to it. read more

Best sausage gravy and biscuits hands down! The fried apples were delish as well as rec by the waitress. My husband got some type of breakfast bowl which he liked too. We came here on a Saturday afternoon after a local resident recommended the breakfasts here. We were seated right away, and the restaurant was very clean with plenty of staff attending to us. I ordered a veggie omelette which was full of vegetables and very flavorful. My husband said the waffle he had was also very good. I'll eat anything for breakfast, as long as it's not eggs. They bore me. So my choices are usually limited. Not here. Of course they have eggs, in many different styles ranging from omelets to burritos. But I appreciated the a-la-carte items: specialty meats including country ham, turkey. Phllly-style steak! Fried chicken! For breakfast! Grits, baked apples, fried mac-and-cheese. No hush puppies though Since this was to be my second breakfast I just had sides of country ham and hash browns. Eaten with Pete's hot sauce and ketchup, already at the table. That's not much to judge by, foodwise. But the country ham was thin sliced and fried for some browning and seemed like the real Virginia ham deal, firmer, salty and more complex than the standard ham. The hash browns were unusual, almost like a very thick potato chip, but still hash-browny in overall quality. Different but in a good way. The sides were on the small side, so I'd probably want 2 of each if I hadn't eaten earlier. But their small sizes were matched by low prices. Also two biscuits for later. Had one with jam, the other dipped in chili. Perfect for both: not too crumbly, light and airy, neutral in flavor, a little salty and buttery but no overpowering cream or buttermilk notes. Coffee was way above normal diner coffee, not quite gourmet local coffee-shop quality, say above Dunkins and below Starbucks. And it kept coming, courtesy of whom I took to be the owner, circling the room pouring coffee and stopping for conversations with a number of his acquaintances. The place was crowded, almost full with what seemed about an equal number of "locals" and tourists. Nevertheless the service was fast, without mistakes, and unhurried. There was a good vibe, albeit loud, people seemed in a good mood, both diners and employees. The way a diner should feel. At the front desk they sold a lot of branded memorabilia. Normally I don't go for that - why should I pay them to advertise *their* business. Shouldn't they be paying *me*? But these were a cut above the normal: the Blue Ridge Diner coffee mugs were hand-made by a local Virginia artisan and were quite attractive. And the T-shirts had a pretty cool design; not just something taken from an images website and stamped with their name though sadly not made locally, or even in the USA for that matter. I broke my rule and bought a mug as a souvenir for DW and a shirt for me. read more

Hanging out in Floyd and looking for a local spot for eats, come here for consistent food, thoughtful service, and very reasonable prices. The dining room is a typical diner, but what mead it for me was how even a diner like this was very accommodating for my severe food allergy (red meat). I didn't photo the food of my fellow guests, but the omelette was huge, the pancake giant, and the hash browns were more like large home made chips (heavenly). read more

Wonderful food, great atmosphere, quick turnaround - but the staff were the real story. How refreshing - everybody there gets customer service; Ev-re-body! Stop in for brunch while on a trip for some vacation time in the area. Door was great. Home cooked meal and portions were awesome. Couldn't have had a better experience. The whole staff was on point and not only did our waitress take care of us, but several others stopped at our table to ask if we needed anything. Chef reviewer: While driving through Floyd, Va on our way to NC we stopped at this diner for some of the best breakfast I've ever had. We had our dog with us so we order take away. The staff couldn't have been nicer to us! They mentioned picnic tables out back, where we were all welcome to sit at and enjoy our breakfast. For what I consider an extremely reasonable price, I ordered, and received correctly prepared 2 eggs over hard, bacon cooked hard, toast, fried apples, grits and biscuits with sausage gravy. The biscuits were soft, fresh, and not over worked. My husband's breakfast was prepared correctly as well. We found the locals warm and inviting. The town itself has a LOT to offer and I could have easily spent more time here. Great food, friendly people, excellent service. Food was mediocre. I could see into the kitchen from where I was sitting and I watched one of the men putting food onto plates not wearing gloves, rub his arms, more food on plates, wipe his face, more food on plates. His hygiene was horrible. This is a good place to skip. read more

Just your simple diner food, but the bacon cheese fries my husband and I got were fresh and hot. The service was amazing, all the women that work there make sure you have what you need! Good place for lunch. The wraps are also really good! We'll be back. read more

This restaurant has changed hands twice since we've been living here. The original restaurant was good, then it was bought by someone who didn't know anything about restaurants. Recently it reopened under new management and it's now a really terrific little diner. The food is excellent and the service is top notch. Quite possibly the worst meal I've ever had the misfortune of ordering. Asked for a breakfast plate with eggs, hash browns, sausage and toast. What I got was a plate with two burned sausage patties swimming in grease with a side of potato chips. When I asked what happened to the hash browns I ordered the waitress said that's how they do their hash browns. Seriously, WTF? Sent the white thing back and told them to take it off my bill. Coffee was not drinkable either (I ordered decaf) Ended up down the road at a coffee shop with a bagel. Will never return. read more

Spent the weekend in Floyd, Virginia and came across this classic little breakfast restaurant. They were packed and hustling. We waited about 5 minutes outside before being seated. The staff was so efficient and super nice. The food was awesome, and the prices were super affordable. All little towns need a Blue Ridge Diner. It's a place to see your neighbors, feed the travelers and keep the local economy thriving. read more

Serviceable breakfast that isn't particularly noteworthy. It'll do in a pinch. Had the Blue Ridge which is 2 eggs, choice of meat, toast, and choice of grits, apples or potatoes. Went with sausage and potatoes. Sausage reminds me of the Jimmy Dean patties. Potatoes were different as they came out as fried chips - not bad. Very similar to the breakfast that you'll see at a hotel offering breakfast. Price, with a coffee, was just over $10. Service was quick, friendly, and efficient. read more
