The weekend kicked off by having breakfast with a friend of mine here at Dolly's Diner in Princeton, West Virginia. It was recommended by the Days Inn hotel staff. It was a lively and lovely atmosphere here at Dolly's Diner, especially on a Friday morning in November. It was around 9am when my friend and I walked in and we got a table almost immediately. I thought that was pretty cool. The entire experience took about an hour since breakfast didn't take too long. The chatter and laughter for the weekend was nice and for me to be there was intoxicating for sure. The service here was good and typical. Friendly and welcoming as well. Even my friend stared to chat up the server that day, saying that I was from Hawaii and he was from Canada. I thought it was funny and interesting at the same time. The server seemed to be amused but it was what it was. I ended up getting a standard plate of breakfast eggs and corned beef hash, with pancakes to make it a good meal. I also had toast and it was delicious with syrup. For my drink, I just had ice water. The prices were not too bad for breakfast though. In Fact, it was around the same price range as the Bob Evans restaurant nearby. Around $10-$13 depending on what you're buying. I enjoyed the meal and my friend from Canada enjoyed his country fried steak. It was an interesting choice for breakfast for sure. And so, if you're in the area for pleasure, business, or visiting or just passing through, consider getting your day started by having breakfast at Dolly's Diner in Princeton. It would probably be the highlight of your day, I promise. I know it was for me, heading into the weekend and a 50 mile race in neighboring Kentucky. The service was fast and friendly while providing a bit of a show between my Canadian friend and the server. I guess he was trying to be friendly. The food itself was traditional breakfast combos with nothing else. Everyone enjoys traditional breakfast comfort foods and Dolly's Diner serves up a lot of them on a daily basis. The restaurant was just busy at the time I was there and that's perfectly okay. It was clean and thankful we got a table as we walked in when it was semi busy. Maybe we beat the breakfast rush that morning. Maybe that was it. The corned beef hash that I had was delicious and good. I had the runny egg yokes, which was the best perfect thing to have with your breakfast protein of choice. The pancakes were fluffy and moist. It was one of the better breakfasts I had while traveling this year. For the most part though, the experience here at Dolly's Diner in Princeton West Virginia was good and nice. I was happy that I dined here versus Bob Evans nearby. While they both provided similar experiences and menu items, I thought that Dolly's provided the ambiance that wasn't there At Bob Evans. I would definitely recommend coming to Dolly's Diner on your next meal here in Princeton, West Virginia. The pancakes are great, the corned beef hash is fun and delicious, and it just seems like everything is awesome, whatever you decide to get. You can't go wrong at Dolly's Diner. As far as parking goes, they have a small parking lot for anyone and everyone who wishes to drive here. Best bet would be to have your own private vehicle or rent one if possible. There is limited regional public transportation in and out of Princeton, but absolutely helpful to have your own transportation plan in place. There is uber and Lyft at your discretion as well, but the best way to get around and getting here to Dolly's Diner would be to have your own vehicle or rent one. They have your traditional breakfast and I'm willing to bet you can order whatever you want at any time of day. Lunch items for breakfast and breakfast items for dinner. This place is amazing. The food was fantastic and the staff were wonderful. But the real gem is the owners. I travel for a living and very rarely go out to eat while working due to not wanting to eat alone. Well the owner talked to me from the moment I walked in and sat down with me multiple times. It meant more than he'll ever know. I left in tears because I was so touched. I know that was just a normal interaction for him, but it made a new regular out of me. I'll be back for sure. Went there last Thursday for breakfast before hitting the road to Cleveland because we wanted to support a local restaurant. Our waitress was Bobbie...she was, friendly, kind and attentive....kept our coffee mugs full!! An older gentleman came around to our table welcoming us and asking if we liked the food...we assured him we enjoyed it and then noticed he sat at table in the corner with a woman...that had to have been Dolly!!! She looked just like the woman on the picture! My parents and I thought it was so warm to see the owners sitting down having breakfast as if they were customers themselves! In all our travels south we have seen this place but never stopped. On our way home from the beach we needed a nice break from the car for lunch and this was the spot. Its cute and retro, very popular, it was so busy but fast friendly service. Amber was the best and friendliest server I have had anywhere ever. She was so sweet and helpful and attentive. During an overnight in Princeton, we decided to take a chance and avoid the chain restaurants at dinner time. We drove over to Dolly's Diner, which was less than 2 miles from our hotel. We are soooo glad we did. The food and service were amazing! I had the fried shrimp, my husband had the fish dinner. My shrimp was perfectly seasoned and cooked. The hushpuppies were slightly overcooked, but still delicious. The hash browns were perfect. The portions were generous, but not huge. I had all I could eat, and my husband reported the same. I'm a transplant from South Jersey, and this is the closest thing I've found to a Jersey diner. They always seem to be busy, but there's never a long wait. The menu is extensive and the service is fast and friendly. It's not gourmet dining, but it is good food at a decent price. Had the best experience stopping in for a dinner while traveling through town on our way up north. Chili cheese fries were amazing, as was the cheese steak. Not a terrible quick serve place, staff has always been extremely friendly even when there was an issue with the meal. They are almost always extremely busy on the weekends and with a smaller parking lot sometimes finding a space can be a challenge. They pick up a lot of travlers from the interstate (including me) for good reason. It's a much better option than a fast food location if you have the time to sit and there is a gas station nearby. They go with a classic car theme which is noticeable but not over the top. So we were on the freeway heading to Salem, VA from Columbus, OH. As usual, hubby gave me very little notice that he was incredibly hungry and wanted to stop soon for dinner. Our MO when traveling is NOT to eat at chain restaurants or any place we can eat at when home. Or any place we've been before. So I Google mapped our location and route to Salem. I highlighted restaurants and started working way down the road. The first place I came to that met our criteria was Dolly's. I clicked on and checked out the menu to make sure there were options we'd both like. CHECK. Next I looked at the reviews - and wanted one recent. Sure enough, there were several reviews left just days before and all said the same thing - this is a must eat at place. So we did. We pulled in at dinner time on a Tuesday. Regardless, we were seated right away. A nice little table tucked at the end of the counter - a nice view of most of the restaurant and down the counter into the kitchen. The menu was just as I saw online. One salad that was perfect for me - the grilled chicken salad. Hubby had more to pick from and asked our waitress for help. He ended up with the Philly Cheesesteak sandwich with hash browns. Our waitress was young, friendly and attentive. She kept our drinks topped off and checked back with us often. However, before we could even get too comfortable, our food was ready. Amazingly quick service. But no complaints about that - we still had a couple hours to drive before our trip down was over. We both dug in immediately and ate every single bite. The salad had a generous amount of flavorful chicken and plenty of fixings to boot. Hubby said his sandwich was delicious and the deep fried hoagie roll was crispy on the outside and hot and soft inside. After the waitress checked to make sure we didn't save room for dessert, she brought our checks. And I was more than happy to pay as the prices were so low - compared to the other meals we will eat out on this trip. You pay at the register on the way out - and that was the only slow down. The people is front of us must have had an issue or they held a really long conversation with the cashier - something made it so hubby used the restroom while I stood in line then he stood in line while I used the restroom and then finally it was our turn to pay. We had an excellent late breakfast--my husband got the Big Bopper, my MIL got the Little Bopper, and I had the strawberries and cream waffle with eggs and bacon. The coffee was perfect and not too strong. All of the food came out quickly and was hot; the portions were generous, and the eggs were delicious with their house seasoned salt. The home fries, hash browns, bacon, sausage, and biscuits and gravy were all great, and I was pleasantly surprised that the whipped cream on the waffle wasn't cool whip.
