We came for lunch and expected to be in the regular dining room that has the nice view, but instead were in a conference room because the air conditioning in the dining room was broken. So there was no view. The food was standard and the service was good. Overall a good experience but if you're looking for a nice view, I would call first to make sure you get the actual dining room. read more

The only reason I'm giving 2 stars is for the waitstaff and the view. The staff were working hard with a bad situation. 1. The restaurant was only offering the buffet because the kitchen staff was too busy dealing with two large events taking place at the same time. 2. The food on the buffet was obviously from their freezer. It was like they were cleaning out the back of the freezer, The chicken was freezer burnt and the ribs were jerky. Please if you are staying at Pipestem... go to The Oak or go into Hinton or Athens to eat. read more

Beautiful views are the best part of this restaurant, although the folks working there sure seem to be trying their best. We stopped in at dinner-time during our stay and were served by the only waitress on staff that evening. Despite being (understandably) overwhelmed, she was incredibly friendly. The menu is very small with only one meatless non-salad entrée: a sun-dried tomato and cream pasta. They emphasize making things in-house, which I appreciate. A couple of us got salads to start with, which were enormous and excellent. The produce was in good shape and the dressings were great. The aforementioned pasta, which I got as my entrée, wasn't great. The sauce was really on the thin side and very, very under-seasoned. The burgers ordered by relatives got good reviews from them, and the French fries were quite nice. My lemon icebox cake dessert was yummy, but their cheesecake had a somewhat chalky consistency (but a generous crust). I would definitely give it a try again, as it seems like they're trying to move it all in the right direction. I just think they have a bit more work to go. read more

Awesome place to eat at the Pipestem Resort! The prices (under $15 for lunch entrees) can't be beat considering the generous portion sizes and quality. The lunch menu consists of mostly sandwiches/burgers, and the sweet potato fries (side) were delicious! It took a few minutes for us to get seated although the restaurant wasn't very busy, but the waitresses were super sweet and attentive. I'd recommend eating outside if the weather is nice - the view of the mountains is amazing! read more

Recently came to Pipestem with friends who were traveling in the area. We checked the website posted menu & thought it sounded good for all the folks in our party. However we got there and they were only serving a buffet. We were a bit disappointed, but the options on the buffet were good & were replenished often. The views were amazing! I've been coming to Pipestem most every summer since 1996, except 2020 and '21 for Covid, and I always make a point of eating at the Bluestone Dining Room - twice this past visit. While I'll admit, being a bit of a barbarian, that I do miss a lot of the old menu like spaghetti, or the fried chicken that occasionally went on the buffet, the new (to me) food was excellent. I did a weekend buffet that managed to hit just about every food I like the most (with extra helpings of the sausage), and the breakfast is always great enough to get this night owl up in the morning. Only one complaint: Will shades be going back up on the windows? A big part of the reason I eat at the Bluestone is also the view (with obligatory picture taking every visit), but a couple of the people in my party kept getting blinded by the otherwise awesome sunset. read more

Be aware most of the meals are buffet. Was told because of staffing issues in the area. I will give a big shout out to the staff and Kevin the manager. Food is good and the folks are friendly. 1st Friday of the month is a seafood buffet. All is fresh and delicious. A must try. You should make a reservation for this. read more

Took my dad for father's day buffet (at his request). Not very good food, was very dry meat & waited for 45min for fresh chicken to be dry also. The waitress was above h beyond WONDERFUL. We have dined here for years and were always generally pleased with the service and food. However, we went there yesterday for the Sunday buffet which feature food for St. Patrick's Day and the food was terrible. The corned beef was tough as shoe leather, the cabbage was overloaded with sugar, and the other vegetables were bland. The roasted potatoes were good as well as the loaded baked potato soup. The service was mediocre as dirty plates continued to stack up on the table and were cleared until we had finished eating. We were embarrassed as we took a guest with us. It will probably be a long time before we return to the Bluestone Dining Room at Pipestem Resort State Park. read more

The Bluestone sits atop The Canyon at Pipestem state park with a gorgeous veiw. The beakfast buffet and breakfast menu were good quality for a great price. I had a country Benedict which came with hand poached eggs, salt-cured ham, with a decent hollandaise for $8.99. The buffet included biscuits, sausage gravy, cinnamon apples, bacon, sausage, eggs, and fruit. Sevice was friendly. kitchen service took about 15 minutes and the restaurant was about 70% full. If it has been awhile, or you have never been, do yourself a favor. Excellent food, service, and beautiful setting!

Had dinner here as part of a group of approx. 25 other people. We gather here the same weekend every year. This year there was no buffet - disappointing. Ordered the panko crusted trout, mashed potatoes and green beans, as did several other of the group. Those of the group that ordered baked potatoes were told the wait would be even longer - this after we had been seated and ordered almost an hour previous. When our food did finally arrive, California blend vegetables had been substituted for the green beans without our consent. Food was barely warm and the taste wasn't great. But, since it was now nearly 8 pm (seated at 6 pm), I was very hungry and just ate it anyway. A small bowl of what we thought would be tartar sauce for the fish was brought out with each meal, but when we tasted it, was found to be alfredo sauce! The only good part of the whole meal was the delicious creamy broccoli soup which was part of the soup and salad bar. The restaurant was only about half full, so it's not like they should have been overwhelmed. Service was glacially slow. By time I finally received the check it was 9 pm. I doubt that I will ever return unless I am sure that there is a buffet. Maybe not even then. read more
