Tony and I went to Pembroke, VA hiking today at Cascade Falls. On way home, we stopped in Hinton, WV at River City Grille & Pub on Rt20 located along the Greenbrier River. We had late lunch early dinner and its a great location with really good food! Tony had Cod w French Fries Hush Puppies w Cole Slaw & 2 PBR in a bottle. I ordered Grill Chicken Sandwich and shared Tony's Fries and a half-half Tea and we ordered 2 Crab Cakes for appetizer. We sat on the deck and enjoyed the weather! Its a great location! Waited almost a hour for the food as we were the only one in the restaurant. When they gave me the food it was just my burger and no fries that I ordered with my burger and they ended up giving me food I never ordered. Food was good service was awful. I do not recommend this restaurant due to how long the service has took. It also took close to 15 min to even get menus. read more

Greeted quickly, outdoor seating was gorgeous with a view of the river. They were out of numerous items, but let us know up front so we could order with that in mind. Everyone in the family was happy with their food, which was hot and delivered quickly. Very nice place to stop near New River Gorge National Park. read more

Wife ordered BBQ for herself and breakfest for me thru door dash i didnt get my breakfest and her BBQ sandwich was not eatable taste nasty she was given refund for the breakfest but when we called about the BBQ tasting bad they didnt refund that i wouldnt recommend eating here there are other better options read more

Great local pub that keeps adding options and evolving their menu. Most recently they partnered with DoorDash, which is impressive for a small town like Hinton. If I have pictures they aren't on my phone so I'll have to come back and add them, but basically you can't go wrong with the core pub offerings. I've enjoyed Taco Tuesday in the past, where I usually get a Margarita and a Taco Bowl. The loaded fries are also excellent, and you have a lot of flexibility and choice in terms of toppings. The red velvet sheet cake they offer is quite tasty. They have a recurring popcorn shrimp dinner/fish and chips type of deal and that was good as well. Inside of the building was empty. Almost didn't look open. Everyone was outside on the patio. We were given a menu & told to sit anywhere. We headed out to the patio and discovered 1 table was about to fall over. Moved on to the next & all of the chairs had spiderwebs. We ordered water & our meals. The food took absolutely forever to arrive. The kids meal was supposed to come with fries and a cheese stick but it was just 2 tenders & fries. My kiddo quickly inhaled them. I ordered a side salad & boneless wings. My side salad came out first and then I had to once again wait on the wings. I was told they had messed up the order so they were correcting it. I'm not knocking the food- it was delicious. I had to go inside and ask for a box and then once again go inside to ask for ticket to pay. I was never given an itemized receipt. Also seemed like they were short handed because I had to wait on the waitress/hostess to appear from the back each time I needed something. It was a nice change up from the restaurants I typically visit when I'm in town but I can understand why some of the reviews are not the best! read more

I wish I could just post a video or voice note of explaining how odd and poor our experience here was. There were 4 adults and 1 child. Our server, Hannah, was sweet, but she didn't know anything. She said to me twice, "I have no idea" when I asked about them having lemons and hot sauce. Oddly enough, they had limes for the Landshark beers we ordered. We sat outside to enjoy the view, every surface was covered in cobwebs and flies, which they should have wiped down. We had to open our own umbrella (nothing huge but typically already open or done for the customers). We ordered a kids water, three regular waters, and a sweet tea. We then ordered 2 Landshark beers, 2 Goose Island IPAs, 3 Michelob Ultra Golds, and 1 Bud Light. (We did order a Michelob Ultra, but were brought gold because that's all they had. We weren't told this before we were given the beer.) Then we ordered the river chips, which were fine. For entrees, we ordered a kids hot dog, which as listed on the menu is supposed to come with fries and a cheese stick (it didn't) so we had to ask for those and we ended up only getting fries. We ordered a pulled pork sandwich, which on the online menu is listed as almost a dollar less than what was printed on the receipt. We ordered the loaded fries as well, and they didn't have green onions as the menu said. (they also weren't very good, and I asked for ranch when I ordered them, but it didn't come with it so I had to ask separately.) We ordered a club sandwich, and received a ham sandwich, we sent it back and got kind of a club sandwich. Fun thing about that club sandwich, it included a hair. At this point, we just didn't even bring it up because everything was so confusing and taking forever. We also ordered pineapple garlic wings, they were good! Lastly, I ordered the jumbo fried chicken wrap and added bacon. I received a grilled chicken quesadilla with bacon. I sent it back, and our server, Hannah, could not find the chicken wrap button on the iPad, but clearly they could make some variation of a wrap because they had tortillas, chicken, bacon, lettuce, cheese, and ranch. I instead ordered the cod platter, and it took so long, everybody had finished their food and drinks, we just decided to get our check without getting my cod platter. I left without having a full meal, this is quite upsetting to me because food is my line of work, as I am a chef. Plus, I have served and bartended before. I ended up clearing the trash off of our table to an empty table (which was never picked up during our time there). We had to go inside to ask for our check. When we got our check, it was not at all what we ordered, but almost half the price of what we were supposed to pay. We were not gonna argue with the price, as we had one of the most confusing experiences I have ever had when dining out. Probably the worst dining experience EVER. It seems like she gave us somebody else's receipt, but, when she was reading off our receipt, it was what we had ordered, except, the price according to the menu, was not correct at all. We paid $40 including tip, and our total that I calculated was above $60. The food wasn't anything spectacular, but I didn't expect much to begin with by the state of the establishment. Overall, it was bad. Will never go back. Definitely a WTF Twilight Zone moment. I almost feel bad for our server and just in general for anyone affiliated. I have absolutely no idea what kind of experience the 5 star reviews had, because it had to be a different place. There's no way I would ever rate them with anything other than 0.5 stars. Absolutely pathetic! Place was empty. Service was okay but the kitchen took forever to prepare the food and the turkey in the club sandwich was sour. What a mess. No manager came out when we were dissatisfied. I would definitely NOT recommend River City. read more

The place had one table business when we there after 1 PM. I had an unpleasant experience and wish you really Be ware of this restaurant, you need to check receipt $$$ Item by item. The waitress added some extra small amounts here and there, which is only part of ingredients ; Or charge salsa or dressing which actually come with the dish on menu ! neither situation should be charged . I found out and started questioning, she and another man tried to cheat me each item has added tax, however, a total tax was added again at the bottom. Double tax?, I was not convinced ! They finally said I got 10% discount (which is not a real one), and became the correct charge. Also they charged credit fee 4% if you use credit card. BOTH are not Correct practices. Delicious pub food, though a limited menu. Every item they offer is fresh & yummy. Try the loaded French fries! You can get just that it's so generous! Crisp fries, creamy cheese and crunchy real bacon crumble...mmmmm. The burgers are delicious as well. Moist and well seasoned. In good weather the back deck is perfect for a lunch or dinner on the gorgeous New River. Well worth the trip to Hinton! read more

Horrible! Food was by far worst I have had out at a restaurant. Came out cold. Just nasty. I wouldn't have given any stars if it was possible. Not waitress fault at all. Kitchen staff and owners fault. Kitchen staff arguing with the waitress over the cooks not being able to complete an order without being told what was on them every time. Stopped here for lunch after rafting. Great burgers & fries. Outdoor seating is practically on top of the New River - couldn't ask for a better view. Service was terrific; waitress was very friendly and provided very helpful information & directions to other sites for planning our afternoon. The place is pretty new and still has an Italian restaurant sign so could easily be missed but that may change soon. read more
