Hotcakes and sasuage

Good food, people leaving reviews saying it racist don't realize that a black lady is cooking the food. Aside from that they have really good service and took no time for the food to be ready!

My wife and I ate there every week for years, until she passed away. We loved the people that…read moreworked there, and the food and the service. It's the best place in Franklin to eat. I would recommend Dudley's Truck Stop to everyone that's looking for a great place to eat.

The Taj Mahal of truck stop restaurants. If you are traveling anywhere nearby (or even if you…read morearen't but can reroute yourself without too much inconvenience) eat your breakfast on the road here. In fact, even if you're in, for example, Florida or California, and are tempted to enter a Waffle House, or an IHOP, Denny's, or, heaven forbid, a Cracker Barrel -- just drive toward the Blue Ridge Mountains and eat at Dudley's instead. The mountain areas of Virginia have restaurants, both large and small, of shockingly good quality (especially if you're way too used to North Carolina's generally dismal offerings). And the splendor of Virginia culinary expertise clearly applies to truck stops -- or at least it does here, in a little restaurant that doesn't seem to have changed much in the last 60 years. Here, all of your diner breakfast dreams will come true. For example, the omelets are perfect diner omelets. The home fries (usually something to be avoided at many diners) clearly come from real potatoes which have been perfectly chopped and even excellently seasoned. There are actual biscuits, seemingly made in-house (shockingly a rarity in other, less rarified, parts of the Southeast - trust me). And it all tastes good and is cooked impeccably. Best of all, is the extra special depth of flavor that can only come from a grill that has seen, and cooked, a lot of history, like a well-loved iron frying pan. You can try to fry bacon elsewhere, but it will never have the same indefinable magic that comes from a venerable diner kitchen. The atmosphere gives top quality diner scenery. The walls, the curtains, the friendly regulars, the pictures, the memorabilia, photos of Willie Nelson, a taxidermied bobcat (which, I should clarify, is a bobcat, I don't mean it's a photo of a bobcat named Willie Nelson, though that may well have been his name to his bobcat friends). it's all magnificent, charming, and will make you miss the sepia-toned vision of your childhood, which really was never like this at all, but it feels right. Chain restaurants can only wish they had a 1/100th of the pleasant authenticity of the decor here. The service is very efficient and, of course, super-friendly (as you would expect), but never annoying or overbearing. It's just as it should be. A lot of the quality comes from (as it does everywhere that is special) having an ever-present owner, who, from the long-ago beginning, has been at the restaurant every step of the way. Great establishments often owe their greatness to a wise owner who harnesses the threads of the business like the Fates at the loom. Thank you for maintaining such a nice place.

I have visited this restaurant several times over the years and never expected exceptional service…read more Really only ever the bare minimum. Unfortunately, even that appears to be too much to ask. On my most recent visit, I arrived alone and took an open seat at the bar, which seemed like the obvious choice for a solo diner. I immediately noticed food from a completely different fast-food restaurant scattered across part of the counter. Since it was on the employee side of the bar and both employees were standing behind it, I reasonably assumed they were eating between tasks. In fact, one employee was actively eating from the food while on the clock. While unprofessional, I chose to overlook it. What I could not overlook was the behavior of the employee I later learned was named Betty. Rather than greeting me or taking my order, Betty decided to make comments about my choice of seating to the other patrons sitting at the bar. Instead of speaking to me directly, she chose to publicly imply that I had done something wrong by sitting in an open seat clearly intended for customers. When I asked whether she was referring to me, she confronted me and explained that it should have been "obvious" that the area occupied by their fast-food meal was reserved for the employees. Let that sink in: an employee eating food from another restaurant behind the counter felt entitled to publicly criticize a paying customer for sitting at a customer seat because it interfered with her personal breakfast. The entire interaction was embarrassing, unprofessional, and incredibly disrespectful. The issue wasn't the food. It wasn't the seat. It was the astonishing sense of entitlement and complete lack of customer service displayed by someone whose job is to provide hospitality. If employees want designated dining areas, management should provide them. What should never happen is a customer being publicly singled out and treated like an inconvenience for using a seat intended for patrons. Needless to say, I left without ordering. I will not be returning, and I will be sharing this experience with others. Poor service is one thing. Being openly mocked and confronted for sitting in an available customer seat is another level entirely. This restaurant already struggled with mediocre service. After this experience, it has earned something far worse: a reputation for making customers feel unwelcome.

Biscuits and gravy and Western ommlettes. I ordered the Weitz special which is two biscuits topped with sausage gravy and two eggs. The biscuits were fluffy and the sausage gravy some of the best I've had. Topped with perfectly cooked over easy eggs, I was a happy girl. Schweety's western was a bit on the small side which he, as usual, put between the biscuit he ordered and at it as a sandwich! He ate it all then helped me finish my food. Such a considerate man! Service was friendly and the restaurnt tidy and inviting. Would eat here again if I was in the area.

Table is sticky, and whatever you do don't sit across from the window unit pumping out cold air for the whole place. My 2 others guests were frozen and I was too, but gave my only sweater to my sister. Food took at least 15 minutes when we were the only ones even being served. Praise music was up higher than the lights. Ladies room toilet rocks so hard I immediately assumed I was falling thru the floor when I sat. Thankfully we won't have to return.

This was the inside of what was supposed to be a salmon cake last night. (10/04/2016) I did not taste any salmon. My dogs got the meal.
