Now, with that being set allow me to also note that I have only eaten take out from this place. They offer a buffet during lunch and dinner, but I prefer to eat my chinese food in front of the TV on my couch, so take out it is. My preferred meal of choice here is the small sized chicken and broccoli with white rice. Believe me when I say the small sized is more than enough for one meal, even if you're starving. They also have very tasty general tsos chicken which comes with a cabbage egg roll. I always swap out the fried rice for white rice, but that is merely a personal preference. All the take out options are reasonably priced and always fresh. Every time I have placed a take out order it has been ready exactly when they stated it would be. Don't be alarmed if they ask for your phone number when ordering as they use your number, not your name, to keep take out orders straight. The counter to pick up your order is located directly in front of you as you open the door so you don't have to waltz across the whole restaurant to pick up your food. If you're a lover of soy sauce like me then I would suggest asking for a few more packs as they usually only give one or two packs, but for some reason always include hot mustard regardless of what I order.

The "make believe" what looks like a fountain, without water, in the entrance is nothing to brag about and the artwork on the wall look kind of cheap. As one enters the restaurant there is an order and pay counter where a person who seems like the manager gives you a warm greeting with a smile and efficiently takes your order, charges you and has one of the hosts take you to your booth. The price for the buffet is not too expensive and considering the large selection of food items available, this may be what continues to attract many people to eat at this place. We decided to eat here today because other buffets and opened restaurants around had a wait of more than an hour. Once you're seated at your booth, a server is assigned to bring you your drink and refills, and to remove your empty dishes once you finish eating what's on them. We had a very friendly and efficient young man who was always coming around to check on us with a smile and providing exceptional customer service. Now, if we talk about the food, which is the main reason one goes to a restaurant in the first place, leaves much to be desired. The quality of many of the items available is very poor and/or not cooked well. So I did my research and found out that it opened its doors in 1963 in a 19th-century autentic farmhouse which once belonged to the Ridinger family. It has had several owners and managers throughout its history. Roger Neel and Neal Keesee, owners of Billy's and Cornbeef and Co. in Roanoke, purchased the restaurant and reopened it in 2016. Kevin Murphy was the general manager in 1996. Devin Whittaker is currently listed as the General Manager. The restaurant has been a long-standing establishment in the New River Valley, known for its beef dishes. Currently its menu has been expanded to include a nice selection of seafood items as well. Additions to the original house include several banquet rooms, a bar, an outdoor dining area that can be used year round, and a caboose annex. After being awarded the Triad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award at the Yelpies Award Ceremony last year, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. And The Farm House in Christiansburg, Virginia, is the perfect example. So one day I made a reservation through Open Table and set out enthusiastically in my new car to go explore what it was all about. After driving in the highway through a nasty rain and thunder storm, the rain finally stopped as I arrived there and was parking in their nice size parking lot. The decor inside was rustic yet very cozy, with many booths inside small spaces, and a couple of very elegant dining rooms nicely set-up and decorated with one of a kind framed Virginia Tech Football memorabilia. It also contained a beautiful award winning wine cellar and exclusive bourbon room. The restaurant was divided into two sides with alleyways where the individual enclosed booths were located and each alleyway had a street name so one could find their way back if they had to leave to use the restroom. The left side was decorated with antique farm items and old photographs and the right side with beautiful colorful paintings by Rochthilde. The caboose annex is located on that side. When I arrived a friendly young lady hostess greeted and welcomed me and after confirming my reservation took me to my booth which was located in Hokie Hwy. You can see the location in my photo of their map. Soon after, my server greeted me and took my order. I started off with a Mojito Mocktail to drink. Their Crispy Fried Calamari as appetizer. Followed by a Caesar Salad. And as the main entrée I had their famous Prime Rib medium rare with the Grilled Shrimp enhancement and the two sides being a Loaded Baked Potato and a Special Corn which was the side of the day. The meal also included these special rolls with butter, which clearly pointed out the exquisite nature of the cuisine of this magnificent restaurant. At this time, I took a brief escape to go visit the bar area and there I happened to have met the Restaurant Manager who gave me a warm welcome and thanked me for having traveled all this way for the pleasure of dining at his restaurant. I found my way back and all the food was amazingly delicious. I invite you to take a look at my photographs accompanying this review. The Prime Rib one of the best I've ever had. Comparable only to Billy's in Downtown Roanoke. My server came by at the appropriate times to check on me and did an excellent job. It was nice to learn that he lived down in Cave Spring, my neck of the woods, and where one of my best and favorite restaurants is located, The OTH Chophouse. I greeted her and ask for the omelet cook because I wanted to have an omelet made. She told me he was at the desert station helping them out and would come as soon as he notices that he was needed. I walk that way and as soon as he saw I needed him to make me an omelet, he immediately came my way and started preparing my omelet. It came out so perfect, that as he was walking away, I called him back and told him I had a holiday bonus I wanted to give him for his excellent service throughout the year. At that moment, you could tell by his watery eyes that he appreciated the gesture enmensely. And that he clearly understood the meaning of constructive criticism through example, and was graceful for it. Afterwards, I went to get some bacon to have with my omelet; and it was once again, crispy and hot, like bacon is supposed to be. This restaurant is on track again and has retained me as one of their best customers.

I used to work in restaurants and can tell when someone really wants to make your visit a great one. Tammy was pleasant and welcoming. She seated us in a room where it was out of the way of foot traffic and less noisy. There were several folks in our group with developmental disabilities and it was never requested but she knew instinctively how to help. The whole time she was helpful and attentive without being intrusive. She was spot on in every way. We will definitely return with our group and we hope Miss Tammy will be there on our Saturday outings.
