Clam Digger's is an unassuming and unexpected delight! It was quite late for lunch so most places were closed when we happened upon CD's open sign. My husband immediately had a hard time making a decision about what to get on the seafood-rich menu, but lucky for him and you, CD's has a la carte options for their more popular scallop servings. I was a bit more hesitant about the many choices until I asked where the clams and mussels came from and the waitress shared that they were regionally local! We tried clam Diggers Friday to celebrate our son's 39th birthday! It was the first time eating here and what a pleasant surprise! Entering a seafood restaurant you would expect to smell fish right? Not at Clam Diggers!! We don't usually eat seafood because my wife has a bad allergy to fish! Clam Diggers has enough choices that she was able to eat with no worries. I had the bacon wrapped scallops that melted in my mouth!! Our son had the fish tacos that he said were delicious! Our waitress had a super nice personality and waited on us hand and foot!! This. Meal. Was. Delicious. I cannot believe I've let myself skip this for so many years when I first visited. First off we started with the crab quesadilla. By the second bite my husband was telling me we needed the copy car recipe if we can't get into town. It's delicious and full of lump crab. Spicy deviled crab dip IS small but still pleasing to slit 4 ways. Hush puppies are baked and moist. Crab cake sandwiches were all crab, almost zero filler and delicious. Fish and chips were excellent. Even the BBQ sandwich was amazing. Jordan is a fantastic waitress. Best of luck in nursing school. read more

Being from the coast originally I won't go so far as to say the seafood was awesome but for L'burg/Bedford is was pretty good. The service was awesome as the servers seem to work as a team. We were also pleasantly surprised to find out @ the end of our meal that dessert was included & one of the choices was Nanner Pudd'n (Banana Pudding for you non-southerners). This was an added bonus. The craft beer selection was not huge but pretty good with something for everyone. We will definitely be back. read more

It was my birthday so I decided I had my own permission to order a number of things. I would like to mention right up front that a bar or restaurants decision to carry non-alcoholic beer is often a reason high up on the list that will decide if I return. When they confirmed they do, an extra star was earned. Also if country music annoys you tremendously, this is not your place. I don't care for it in general, but it was 90's and early 2000's country: all songs I know by heart and can sing kareoke to with marginal success. In fact, I heard Shania Twain for the first time in 10 years and experienced lots of flash backs, then looked for my leopard print cowboy hat when I got home. I ordered the crab-stuffed sweet peppers which you can order topped with cheese or cayenne pepper. I opted for cheese and now I realize I should have asked for half and half. They tasted and appeared as something your mom would make for company. My husband ordered the wings and said they were good. I'm not a wing person so I'll take his word for it. Sticking with the stuffed theme (figuratively and literally) I ordered the crab stuffed flounder which was also a winner. They make their tartar sauce in house and what I'd recommend is taking home a container and mixing it with tuna fish to make a sandwich. Waste not, want not. We also ordered a cluster of crab legs and a crab cake. My husband did not share the crab legs, but I was surprised at the quality of the crab cake, because I've had crab cakes elsewhere and I'm usually disappointed (this also happens often with macaroni and cheese). we stopped by on our way to the coast from Southwest Virginia. what a wonderful discovery. Fantastic homemade crab cakes, raw oysters and stuffed shrimp were all wonderful, fresh and fast. We were in Bedford with our son who was in the hospital. We are from Texas and enjoy Sea Island a wonderful Texas seafood chain and we visit Galveston and South Padre quite often. Needless to say these are great seafood locations. When we first visited here three years ago we fell in love with the Sea Captain in Rocky Mount but he closed last year. We just found out new favorite seafood restaurant!!! This place is on a par with the Texas coast! Prices are a little bit high but that is commensurate with prices in today's post COVID economy. Our first visit to try the seafood. This location is easy to access. I like that they do not fry anything. It is all baked/steamed/broiled. The special was a half pound of shrimp (huge shrimp but tender) with a side salad. It was delicious. Also got a basket of corn hush puppies. I ordered flounder stuffed with crab, The fish was so overcooked it was bone dry, the crab had some kind of bad tasting seasoning in it. and then they charge a fee to pay by credit card. I will not return here. read more

Definitely a larger hole in the wall restaurant. But the food, yes the food, is amazing. They don't fry their menu items, rather, everything is baked...hush puppies, French fries, fish-n-chips, everything. And boy does it make a difference! Same yummy flavors with no grease. Hush puppies: HUGE appetizer serving, tasty. Crab Cakes: I'm a Marylander and these pass the test, as did the accompanying French fries. Oysters: had them raw and because they were smaller than usual gave us twice what we ordered for the price of what we ordered...delicious. Fresh. Fish-n-Chips: perfectly baked! And the cole slaw wasn't runny or too sweet...just right. Brownie: drizzled with chocolate syrup...moist and hit the spot. And I can't forget the tangerine beer...think our waitress, Katie, said Long Coast makes it...doesn't matter because it was super refreshing! This place is definitely worth checking out. read more

This is absolutely a central Virginia gem. Tina and her staff are amazing! The bar area is like the TV show "Cheers" as the locals gather and everybody knows your name but what is most welcome is a new face to enjoy the perfect atmosphere for consuming one's favorite beverage. Locals welcoming you with open arms to share our Bedford's history as well as the present locals sharing their shenanigans as youngsters (Shenanigans witnessed by the guy or gal on the next stool) The food is awesome, staff and atmosphere awesome. I had heard good things about this place so we decided to stop for a late lunch on my Birthday. The owner was working and was absolutely delightful. She answered all of my questions (I am sensitive to spicy food items). I decided on the crab muffin and my husband got the BBQ sandwich. My crab muffins were outstanding, loaded with crabmeat and just the perfect amount of seasoning! We also split a basket of hush puppies. The hush puppies were very food and you get around 20 large hush puppies for $6.95. We ended up taking over half home with us. They also have real homemade banana pudding. I hate it when people try to pass off sliced bananas in vanilla pudding as banana pudding. If you find yourself any where near Bedford please stop by Clam Diggers, you will not be disappointed! read more

Everything we ordered here was delicious. We had the snow crab, crab stuffed flounder, and the bacon wrapped scallops. It was all bomb. The side of steamed broccoli is done PERFECTLY. I think it's safe to judge a place on their hush puppies and theirs are great. Desert comes w dinner and is pretty basic, but great to have something sweet at the very end. We were passing through Bedford and found this little seafood place on our way home. It is a small, casual restaurant with a very friendly waitstaff. They had a wide selection of fresh fish that they will cook to order there, or you can grab some for home cooking. We had the blackened Ma hi with fries and a basket of hush puppies. It wasn't anything extravagant, but we always enjoy places that serve fresh fish. One big plus was the free dessert! We had a choice strawberry short cake or dirt pie (chocolate pudding with oreos and whip cream) In my opinion... always go with the chocolate. Great little place for a casual lunch if you are looking seafood. Seemed a little understaffed for what appeared to be an unexpected late lunch crowed though. This is a decent seafood place. It's set up like a basic seafood shack, and the staff was friendly and attentive. The menu had a _lot_ of options, plus the chef was open to any personal whims in styles of cooking, sauces, etc. (They'd even let you pick your own fish from the fresh seafood, if you wanted to.) The fish (the three ways that I tried) and the hushpuppies were outstanding, although the crabcakes left a lot to be desired. You can also buy fresh seafood here to take home and cook yourself, which I saw several people do. I'd probably try some of Bedford's other options for variety before returning, but I would go back to Clam Diggers at some point. read more

After posting my last review in May I've had the chance to go back a few times, talk with friends who visited, and most importantly had a nice chat with the owner. Apparently mine wasn't the only concern she heard from customers about certain employee's attitude. I've noticed an improvement and friendlier service. Very cool place to go. Awesome jazz band on the last wednesday of everymonth. Good service. The owner is very nice, and his wife does all the cooking. Plenty of parking behind the building. Pretty spacious inside, good tables and chairs. Good craft beer. Has 2 clean bathrooms. Pool table in the back room. Pretty decent crowd. Crab legs are great, Crab cakes are good. Reasonably priced. Friendly waitstaff this might be my first 5 star review. I like it because its different. My significant other and I went to Clam Diggers because I had been craving seafood. Sadly my craving was not satisfied. We started with the half pound of steamed shrimp for a little under $12. It took a little longer than expected and there was not 1/2 lb of shrimp in the basket. We both chose to do the combination platter. The crab cake was $9. $9 for one small crab cake is definitely more expensive than the average restaurant. The scallops were $2.50 a piece and were roughly the size of a quarter. The steamed clams were overcooked and therefore very rubbery and hard to get down. The dessert was free with our meal and wad the best part. Both the banana pudding and the brownie are wonderful. The food was decent overall, and had we paid $40 for the both of us we would be more pleased, but $53 seemed unreasonable for the quality and quantity. read more
