Close-up of the Caesar Salad with all of its ingredients.
Manuel M.

One evening, after attending a function at the Roanoke Civic Center with a friend of mine, we came to the Pine Room for a late night snack, and I was very impressed with the place, the homemade fruit pie, and the service we received from our waiter Penny. Today, I decided to return to taste the food in the menu and catch another glimpse of the superb service I was able to experience on that late night snack occasion. After having made a reservation for 6:15pm on a Friday evening, I arrived at the Hotel Roanoke and walked over to the Pine Room. When I arrived, the host welcomed me with a warm greeting, and my server from the last time I ate at the Regency Room, Ben, who happened to also be there chatting, also greeted me, remembering that I now was a member of the Dogwood Club, and the amazing service he had given me last time at the Regency Room concluding with the making of a Banana Foster for my dessert. I was taken to a nice table at the center and close to the open kitchen of the main dining area. From there, I was able to see Chef Erin and all her kitchen staff cooking the food right before your eyes. It was a pleasant surprise to find out that my server this time was the same server that we had on that late night that I talked about at the beginning of this review: Penny. She greeted me with a warm welcome as usual and explained to me some of the items of the menu I asked about. I finally ordered the Caesar Salad to start with, and the Slow Roasted Pork Shank as my main course. I'm used to having bread with my meals, so after me asking, she brought me a dish with toasts that had a cheesy flavor. While I waited for the food, I watched Chef Erin and all her staff cooking in the kitchen and the intense fire coming out of an oven they had there where they cooked the freshly made pizzas. My Caesar salad tasted amazingly delicious, like very few I've tasted before. And the Pork Shank looked wonderful and tasted even better. What an extraordinary dining experience. And to top it off, I had the Baked Freeform Fruit Pie as dessert, with Honey ice cream and Caramel on top. I highly recommend this restaurant to all as a place with a relaxed yet elegant ambiance, where you can eat a variety of fresh and amazingly prepared foods, served by excellent servers who make you feel at home and very special at the same time. What else can you ask for an amazing dining experience.

One of the restaurants in the hotel. Very nice place and it was nice enough out to sit outside. Not a fan of the chairs but it was nice. Also they have really good heaters so don't be afraid to take a table there even if it is cold. We started with Pickled deviled eggs. Delicious! So well prepared and presented. My main was the 'Kraut-chi' burger. Delicious! The kimchi and sauerkraut combo really worked. Deb had the Shrimp Alfredo pasta. It was delicious. Large portion too. Incredible service, food and atmosphere. Loved it!

The patio seating is delightful to watch everyone checking out or checking in and comfortable. There is an access ramp and elevator for wheelchairs. The patios are comfortable and spacious also offering views of downtown. The service is quick and friendly. The food is consistently delicious and changes with the season offering opportunity to go frequently and have something different.

Holiday drink menu

Wow blown away by the unique, glamorous bar set up here. There's amazing zodiac art on the ceiling with the Roanoke star in the center of the golden fixture of the bar. Really a great spot! Especially around the holidays and you can explore the hotel which has a tree decoration contest set up which benefits charity. Now to the drinks and food. There was a holiday list which we ordered from. My eggnog was quite tasty with nutmeg on top. The two I came with had ordered the mistletoe Moscow mule. They said it was okay. I recommend ordering bites to share so you can sample several things among your group. We had the crispy cauliflower which was astounding, the bartender complimented our order saying it was a popular item. We also split the mushroom pizza which was also delicious. We were able to walk into the bar and take a seat as the dinner room was fully booked. Plenty of bar top and personal seating in the bar. Same food and drink served in bar as restaurant attached.

Burger fries dinner

Absolutely the best food and service by Penny.. she attended our every need we didn't even know we had!!! Oh and the food, the burger was delicious cooked to perfection and the fries were also savory and delicious. Dessert was of course to die for the honey ice cream it's insanely tasty perfect!

The Pine Room is a rustic bar and Poole rooms inside the Hotel Roanoke. The bar keeps a wide selection of beers and liquor. Bartenders are all good for putting together the libations you want. I love the comfortable atmosphere.

There is nothing more American than a good hamburger and hot dog, served with in-house made potato…read morechips and a Coke or a beer by friendly and welcoming, young ladies, who make you feel at home from the moment you walk in the door. And that is precisely what I discovered when I visited Top Dawgs Pub & Deli for the very first time this late afternoon for a late lunch and early dinner. This casual family-owned and operated American restaurant for over 12 years is located in the Roanoke/Botetourt County area and is known for its pub fare like hot dogs, burgers, and wings, with a large selection of craft beers and Coke products. When I arrived, I immediately noticed this family-oriented restaurant's community-focus. There were signs up of Family Meal Box, Taco Tuesday Family Pack, Karaoke Every Other Saturday, and Sunday Funday. There were couples, young and older dining there, as well as families. It's dog-themed decor was very unique, with dogs pictures all around the walls. It had seating areas with high tables and chairs, low tables and chairs, and chairs at the bar counter. The large screen high definition TVs were set at an appropriate distance so one could conveniently watch a game while dining there and having some beers. As soon as I entered, a young lady in the back asked me to seat at the table of my choice, and then she came down to bring me a menu and take my drink order. Even though they had an extensive selection of beers, since I was driving, I opted for an iced-cold Coke. To dine I started out with a Bam Bam Shrimp appetizer. The shrimps weren't Jumbo as described in the menu, but tasted delicious with the bam bam sauce. And to dine I ordered a Cowboy Burger that came with in-house made potato chips that were out-of-this-world and a Cheezy Dawg. The burger came in a fresh, soft bun and the patty was juicy and cooked to perfection, although the bacon inside was not crispy and I couldn't see the onion ring inside, it tasted good with the cheddar cheese and BBQ sauce. The home-cut potato chips were just amazing. Best I've ever had. And the hot dog was an all beef quarter pound jumbo hot dog, split in the center and had chili, cheese, onions, and mustard, also in a fresh hot dog bun, and I added some ketchup as well. My server Tammie made sure to refill my drink without me having to mention it to her. For dessert I had their Fried Oreo Cookies and they tasted amazingly delicious. The best I've ever had. They were about 5 or 6 fresh Oreo cookies dipped in a light batter and fried mildly, then sprinkled with sweet powder sugar. They were so good and I was so full that I took 3 of them home with me to have as a snack later on. To pay, my server brought me a convenient little machine, where I paid with one of my credit cards, including my tip, Overall it was an extraordinary, relaxing dining experience and I highly recommend this restaurant when you want to have a truly enjoyable American meal.

While spending a weekend fly fishing at the Cliff View Golf Club & Fly Fish Inn, we ate dinner here…read moreeach night, as well as got lunch catered each day and everything was outstanding! This isn't a "greasy spoon" with a boring, basic menu, rather Jenny (the chef) has an amazing menu loaded with freshly made items and sauces. She spends a lot of time and energy putting together some great, uniquely prepared menu items that sound typical, but aren't done the typical way. Her Shrimp Po Boy was outstanding! The bread is part of what makes an amazing Po Boy and she knocked it out of the park by selecting the bread she's using. She explained she specifically selected this bakery for the bread and it came out perfect! The shrimp was perfectly battered with a slight cornmeal batter (I know, not traditional, but perfectly done!) and the sauce on top brought it together nicely! The steak & cheese was excellent! Nice beef, no fat/gristle and great toppings and cheese... We added sautéed jalapeño and onions to it and they really made it taste great! My favorite item was her cole slaw - it was unbelievably tasty and very fresh! You can tell it's made fresh daily!!! The fish sandwich is incredible too... fresh fish with her homemade tartar and a pickle and cheese added... I've never had a fish sandwich with a pickle, but this was great! The bun was incredible too. They offer the typical assortment of wines, beers, and even the popular new alcohol canned drinks. The view, if you sit outside is incredible with views of the cliffs across the Jackson River. Service from the servers, all the way up to Jenny herself was great too. Everyone is treated like family there. Highly recommend stopping in for dinner, lunch, whatever - we definitely enjoyed it!
