Came for lunch today with my wife and 2yr old. Our first time here. Ordered a mini taste flight of some fruity beers for the Mrs and sweet tea. I had the iconic west quest which was 10/10. Mrs liked a few of the tastings like the raz, I liked the lemon. We shared some loaded fries, cleaned that plate! Shared brisket and ribs, the brisket was 10/10 amazing. Our daughter had the Mac n cheese, she loved it we all loved it. Also shared the beans which were possible my favorite! The beans had a nice chonky chunk of brisket swimming in the middle for 2.99! Our service was very very fast we didn't wait at all, I think we were enjoying our meal maybe 5 mins after we sat down? That's amazing by itself. We will be back an recommending to friends. Stopped in and caught the tail end of some live music. Andrew was fantastic. Came in and sat at the bar. Unfortunately it took about 10 minutes for anyone to even acknowledge we were there. We ordered a beer and decided on some food. About 25-30 minutes passed when we asked about our food. Someone brought it over and all of the food was luke warm. It was most likely sitting for a while. It's bbq. The ribs and brisket were smoked earlier and the beans and mac n cheese already cooked. A reheat should take 5 minutes. The food tasted good but would have been great hot. The beer was good. I wish the service was better. read more

Visited Beale's on 5Jun26 for dinner about 4:30. --It had just reopened in May 3026 after being closed a year. It was a nice visit and we had four burgers and nachos with chicken for 4 adults, 2 children. Atmosphere was nice, we checked out a couple of the big beer vats. They appeared hard at work making beer. The waitress was nice, helpful on the menu items. When we got the bill, she told us she had automatically added a large group 20% gratuity. I believe the menu said parties of 8 or more are charged 20% gratuity, but I did not push this and actually added a little more. The visit was really good--4 stars and the status of the restaurant should be changed to open in Yelp. read more

Maybe they were having an off night but lately Beale's is not what it used to be. I do not like to leave bad reviews but I don't know if I'll go back which is sad because they are within walking distance and used to be a regular visit for us. We waited over 30 min for anyone to even greet us. The waitress was friendly and apologized saying they were short staffed. I felt bad for her because she seemed overworked. Once we ordered, the food came out quickly but they never did bring out my fries. I was done my meal and they still had not brought them out. The food was pretty bland. My son said it was the worst burger he ever had and that it tasted like dirty water & his fries were not done. Hopefully, this was a one off. If we go back, I'll do another review. Always great service with friendly bartender and servers. Always like the tacos, but they are getting smaller each visit. That's disappointing. I'm glad they're exploring different food options. My cheesesteak was tasty but needed more cheese. Maybe use "wiz" like the original ones in Philly. read more

Had lunch at Beales and had a lot of great things. The best thing was the blueberry cobbler, it was AMAZING. The nachos were good, we got them with no beans, but they didn't seem as piled high as some of the others. The mr morris sandwich was good. I liked the brisket chili better with the chips. I really liked how the chips were almost like wonton chips. I'm a little disappointed in the change of service how we have to go up to the bar to order everything and anytime we need something. read more

Not many vegetarian or diet-restricting options. $2.99 for a 2"x2" piece of cornbread and very dry. Mac n cheese very bland. Potato salad was delicious! But all the small sides are $2.99 and very small portions. $10 for three VERY small sides... not worth it and definitely not a meal. A beyond burger would be a good addition to the menu. Their beer list was a playground for us! There were so many that sounded good that we couldn't just choose one, so we each got a pint to start and 2 flights (which basically allowed us to try 90% of their beers). The rainbow beer was my absolute fave, shout-out to our waitress for the recommendation. Our eyes are always bigger than our stomach and thought we were going to try the wings, nachos, and burger- but stopped at the nachos. Their portions are generous! The wings had a great Smokey flavor taste to them, but were a little chewy. The nachos were good too, with a lot of meat on top, but the meat and chips were cold. Oh my...so not impressed! I am very sad to say, this food spot in Bedford, VA was very unimpressive. For an early Saturday night dinner, we were barely seated before the live music was so loud my head was actually throbbing. Please keep in mind - I have attended countless rock concerts and music venues, but the amplifier was so loud- I felt nauseated. We "could not" have been seated any further away from the action, and I still felt deaf after leaving. The food was certainly sub-par. Since they seemed to specialize in many types if Barbecue, I assumed it would be a special treat. 17.99 for one tiny thin piece of mostly fat Brisket, and the only thing that came with it was a slice of white bread and a pickle on top of a tiny pile of onion. Any side you received was a separate charge. After feeling the need to step away for a second to gather some of my hearing back- I went to the restroom only to find filthy stopped up toilets. After the alcoholess, water drinking bill arrived, I must say- I was in total shock considering the quality and quantity of the food we received. Lesson learned; this definitely won't be a return stop for our group. Sad to say the least. read more

If one ever decides to visit Bedford... (I don't know why you would visit Bedford...) but if one ever does... check our Beale's. Their ribs were sold out so I went for the brisket. It was cooked and seasoned to perfection. Went with the Mac n cheese side and also very well cooked and seasoned. Another favorite was their pickles and I almost wished I ordered a side of their pickles instead of their Mac n cheese but that's because I'm a pickley type of person. Haha. I think I got their peach something something beer and I loved it. If only I could hold my alcohol in better... I would've had another. I'd definitely come back and hopefully early enough for their ribs. Tip: ask for a sampler if you're uncertain which beer you want to order. P.S. An industrial feel, this place is bare bones and based on its drinks. I'm not sure about the food, but I can say the beer is very flavorful and well thought out. As for the staff, they seem to know their stuff, but that does not affect my rating. For rating I would say it is a 4, bordering close to a 5. The bad marks are the location, the hours of operation and the lack of tvs, or other things to keep my mind from wandering. Still I suggest it if you can stop by, so a 5 is what I will base this on. read more

We were in the area after spending time at SML. I had read reviews on Yelp and wanted to try it myself. Located in an industrial area, it is close to downtown Bedford. It has a large outdoor space. We had our two dogs so we sat outside for a drink. The outside area is gravel with picnic tables. They have umbrellas to help with the heat. We ordered the pretzel with beer cheese. It was very good, the pretzel was soft and easy to share. We couldn't decide on a beer so we got two flights. 8 beers that ranged from a cream ale to a porter. We walked away with the Toasted Coconut Cream Ale and the Peach Tea beer. Both light beers to enjoy in the summer. Trivia was going on inside, seemed well attended. Their merch was on point. Take a look at the pics and then do some internet research on the background. So issues for us.. 1) the flys outside were a little crazy for us. Not a big fan of flys on the food and beer. The obviously wouldn't be an issue inside 2) birds... As mentioned we had our dogs. The little birds looking for scraps were driving them crazy. Again not an issue if inside, but also wouldn't be able to have dogs. I'll still give it 5 stars since this could be avoided by eating inside. read more

My wife and I had heard about this place from a few friends and decided to give it a try on a Saturday. Bedford is not really an easy place for us to get to from where we live, but we made the trip. We were both glad that we did. It appears to be in an old industrial building. There is plenty of parking in a lot and on the street. There is indoor and outdoor seating. The inside is fairly large and there are ab out 10 or so outdoor tables with umbrellas. This place is very dog friendly.. We don't have a dog but we were definitely in the minority outside! So beer first... we did a flight and they were all good. There was a typical lager, a red, a peach tea style... We ended up liking the Lager called Gold the best and had that with lunch. For lunch we had a large pretzel with mustard and beer cheese. Then I had the classic burger and my wife had pulled pork sandwich. I also had fire and Ice pickles with the burger. THey were all excellent! The pretzel and pickles were very good! I recommend the fire and ice pickles for sure! I would have given it 5 stars but the service was pretty slow. We weren't in a rush so it was no big deal... but it was not quick. It could have been just a really busy Saturday or a little short staffed.. but we would definitely go again if we are nearby. read more

The food was good. It's a brewery so it's known for their beers which we did not partake in, but the food wasn't bad. As per usual with breweries, it's a place to go and chill for awhile and enjoy beer while you eat, so the service was pretty bad & slow. My tacos were really good though, and so was my sweet tea! The cups they serve the drinks in are also really cute! My party ordered, burgers, nachos, ribs & chicken tenders. Recommend if you're not in a rush to eat. They also have outdoor seating where dogs are allowed but it gets pretty full on the weekends and there may be a wait. Oh and let me not forget to tell you HOW RUDE the hostess was to me. Sad to say this was my favorite restaurant. Now it's just another food joint where you have to stand in line for overpriced food and testy bartenders. No waiter or waitress which was one of the reasons we visited. No more for me but if you're only drinking beer, be my guest. We were in town for a long weekend and stumbled upon Beals our first night. We enjoyed a flight of beers and liked everything single one (rare!) We also enjoyed appetizers and great service. But here's the kicker, it was so good we came back. By our last day in town, we were worn out and wanted something casual and boom! Beale's it is! That go around I had a different beer, bought a six pack, and we loved the burgers. Great spot, casual vibe, so perfect! I really like this place! I've been a few times now and I'm never disappointed. They have good beer and amazing food. Let me repeat. Amazing food. Most people don't go to breweries for food, but go here for food. There isn't a huge spectrum of beers. Most are usually lighter, but most I've had are so good. The brewery is in a super cool old building and there's good seating outdoors. The only complaint I have is that sometimes the service is a bit slow when most of the tables are full. Food was just okay. Patrons have to order at the bar with almost no wait service. Server brought first order almost 15 minutes before everyone else. Then brought 2 orders of someone else's food to us. They were out of wings which really upset the person that brought us to this brewery in first place. We were camping at Smith Mountain Lake and drove out to Bedford to find a laundromat. While we waited for our load of towels to dry, we visited Beale's. They are dog friendly outside so we ordered a couple of flights and a pretzel to share. The pretzel was served with beer cheese and mustard. I particularly enjoyed the mustard as there was a sweetness to it. My favorite beer was the Peach Tea Blonde Ale; we took a 6 pack to go. Overall, a nice place to visit with ample parking nearby. This was my first time at Beale's. This is a local spot featuring local craft beer and a nice menu with several options you would like while drinking some local libations. I live about 15 minutes from Beale's. I never heard of this location until a friend ran across it and asked if we would join him and his wife this Saturday evening. We arrived to find a large industrial looking building with a very nice outdoor seating area. You must wear a mask to enter the establishment. We sat at a table close to the bar in the middle of a grand floor space. Social distancing was enforced somewhat for some areas and for larger tables, not so much. We decided on ordering a round of their 24 or 36 oz beer. I'm not exactly sure how big they were, but they were large. We also ordered the nachos for the table. Our beers were poured and food arrived and was pretty amazing on both parts. We proceeded to have a few more beers through the course of our 5 hour stay here. We also ordered several other appetizers, all of which were great. Here is where things took a small slide for me. My friend got up to use the rest room. He is a medical professional of over 20 years. The table was located in a area that allowed direct access to the entry way where the restrooms are located. He left the table and upon exiting the restroom was basically berated by the hostess for not wearing a mask. Ok. I get it. He returned to the table and we further discussed this. While we were still enjoying a nice time, we noticed three large tables were seated with roughly 16 under age patrons going to what looked like a spring dance or something along those lines. They were not wearing masks and continuously walked through the bar area without them. Nothing was said to these three tables though. As we closed our tab and prepared to leave the three table group was having a great time. They were not being loud and we appreciated the fact they were enjoying themselves. We got up and walked to the front door. Again, we were stopped and the manager and hostess said put your masks on. My friend stopped and commented it was funny that us four walking out of the place are jeopardizing everyone but sitting at a table and having three large groups going back and forth wasn't of concern. Here is where it went sideways, the manager and hostess, not sure which made the comment as I was going through the door remarked raked your smart ass comments out of the building. I couldn't believe it at first. She even made it a point to open the door after we were in the parking lot and made another comment similar. Totally unprofessional. We dropped close to $400 here and left a great tip and then got that comment. Come on. Not cool. read more

Since I live in Bedford this is my home brewery. I agree with most of the previous comments, even the negative. No place is perfect. At the risk of hurting someone's feelings I have to mention two recurring negative issues. Since this is, first and foremost a brewery, why come here if you don't like beer? I can't recall the number of times I've sat at the bar only to have someone sit down and tell the bartender, "Well, I don't really like beer". Um, it's a BREWERY. Why are you here? Issue 2. Beales is also a BBQ joint. So don't expect vegan options... Others have mentioned their server didn't know much about the beers. As I mentioned, as any other restaurant, there's turnover. Ask and you will find a knowledgeable person nearby. Quite possibly a brewer. They can answer your questions. There's also a brief description on the beer menu. I hope this helps. Come by and visit. On our way to Roanoke from Richmond the other day we remembered that there was a brewery Bedford so decided to stop. The space is in an old warehouse with high ceilings. It is very clean and inviting. The staff was also very friendly and knowledgeable. We tried three styles of beer, the basic IPA, the sour with berries and the aged Winter Warmer. Each was excellent. At Happy hour, beers and appetizers are $2 off! Food looked good, too but since we were there at an odd, the only thing we had was the home made beef jerky. Very good! Very good BBQ. The brisket was well cooked and flavorful. I went off the menu and mixed the orange and red sauces. They go well together. The fries were luke warm and mostly end of bag pieces but edible. They have a great outdoor eating space that includes heaters when the temps get cooler. 5 stars for the beer, 3 stars for the food - average them to get a 4 overall. I came here with my parents after a visit to the nearby Peaks of Otter. The venue is nice and roomy with a lot of great natural light. Throughout our visit, our server was very attentive. My dad and I each had a flight of 4 beers for a total of 8 beers, which we shared. My favorites were the Northern English Brown, Silver (hefeweizen), Moscow Bear (their Bear sour with lime and ginger), and Amarillo Rye (a nice, hoppy IPA). We had an order of beer cheese and fresh tortilla chips to share. The beer cheese was pretty good, but the chips were not very crunchy. I was also disappointed that there was no vegetarian option for a sandwich or burger. I would definitely come back for the delicious beer, good service, and great atmosphere, but I wouldn't plan on eating a meal here. read more

If you are looking for a cool outside atmosphere, Beals is the place to be. I am not a fan of craft beer and their "plumpricot" was excellent. Nachos with chicken were great and I would order them again. I ordered the hawkeye sandwich and I regretted my decision. Chicken was dry, bun was cold and quite frankly the entire meal was luke warm. I will certainly give Beals another shot but will order brisket or pulled pork. Table was dirty upon arrival. With that said, waitress was great. read more

This brewery has solid beer choices and great snacks! I opted for the peach tea blonde which was a great choice on a hot day. Not too fruity but the hint of peach was there. We also got the chicharrons to munch on, and for $3.99, the platter was HUGE. It was the perfect snack to munch on while drinking beer. This is a really great find. I can find my favorite German style beers. The variety is great despite only having 13 beers available. I don't think they could have done a better job. This place had a pretty awesome theme. We were not from the area so when we googled what it was all about we had a pretty awesome read. My husband and I both had a burger and a flight of beer. They offer a great variety of beer, so surly anyone can find something that tastes right. The burgers were good. My only complaint is that my Mac burger did not have much cheese, but who doesn't want more cheese! The service was okay, we waited for about ten minutes before we were greeted at the hostess desk where other guests were waiting as well. Delicious food, great prices, excellent service, and a lively yet relaxing atmosphere. This is our regular date night spot. I tried the pulled chicken plate today and found my perfect plate. I got coleslaw on the side and that with the pulled chicken, bread, onions, pickles, pickled onions, and all the sauces I got the perfect combination and I know you can too.
