For someone who is out of state you are walking up questioning if your at the right address. Then you get inside and it's this cute little brewing company. Staff was friendly, drinks were a good price and tasted great. Very chill vibes. read more

We enjoy visiting local breweries and decided to stop in at AFOG on a Sunday evening at 6:30pm after calling and confirming their hours. The brewery was easy to find and we originally thought it was housed inside an old school building but later learned it was previously a health services building. In addition to AFOG, there are also residential apartments in the remaining adjoining part of the building. There is a large outdoor area where a birthday celebration was happening amongst a small group. We proceeded inside and were immediately greeted by Sam. She helped me identify the IPA options and i immediately chose their Millennial Serum, which is a hazy imperial style that I enjoy. We looked around a bit, snapped some photos and looked at their swag. I'm a big tie dye guy and I was happy to see they had a great selection of AFOG tie dye shirts in my size. We decided to sit at the bar while I enjoyed my beer and chatted about our day. We also enjoyed talking with Sam and learning more about the brewery. We learned they are soon opening their second location in Buchanan, Virginia. Great stop, we felt welcomed, the beer was delicious and I have a new tie dye that will remind me of our time in Roanoke. read more

This is a pretty friendly place. My husband had the pumpkin beer which he would recommend. He said it had a good pumpkin taste and the right amount of spice. There was a group with food in one area. The decor was a goat theme. It had a cozy feel inside. There is a nice variety of merchandise. read more

You can order to go which is best. I was able to order in advance and pick it up within a few minutes. It's very helpful that the entry is located part of the weet end flats. Very chill late night crowd of a handful of guests. The barman checked my order and quickly proceeded to make my drink and offered an alternate since the main option I had was unavailable. Very spacious inside with a merch wall and pinball machine. They also have an outdoor seating yard space with yard games. read more

This is a great brewery! I was staying on the property at an Airbnb and found one night when they were actually open for more than a few minutes and went there and had a beer before I had to jet off to meet a friend for dinner. They're not open very often or very long, but if you can sneak in while somebody is there, the beer is outstanding. There's not really much food available to speak of. The night I was there they were having trivia and everyone was having fun. I'd highly recommend this place. read more

I came across this brewery when looking for something open in the area to wait out afternoon rush hour traffic. The name is what initially caught my attention, then seeing they specialized in barrel-aged beers...I followed the beer carrot to what ended up being an amazing beerperience! I was the only person in the place a few mins after their 3pm opening and was warmly greeted by the beertender (who was also one of the owners) who hadn't initially seen me, so was surprised to see me sitting at the bar. He graciously let me "try before I buy"-ed, even though I was getting a flight, which definitely won extra beer-points in my book! Their lineup was exceptional and there wasn't anything on their list that I didn't immediately want to try. Being an #abvsizequeen I was instantly smitten w/how many #bigbeers they had on draught! Another owner came in shortly after I got my flt and we began to beer nerd out about adjuncts, aging, and their upcoming releases. I found this place through my brother-in-law a few weeks ago. My wife and I stopped back in a few nights ago to see/taste what was brewing at AFOG. The pour list had changed up a bit and still had a few taps I remembered from our first visit. Most notable was the Black IPA which was set to be served early this week. Kyle, who was taking care of us, offered a sample - very different and enjoyable IPA. The atmosphere is very family-friendly so if you're looking for a place to taste some great brews and recipes and want to bring the kiddos along with you, this is the place. They have ample parking, board games, and a few wall-mounted screens offering sports, and some background music you can hear, and ignore if you need. They have an outdoor garden with many tables I can see filling up when the weather turns a bit warmer soon. I'm heading back this week to take in the Black IPA, and maybe something else new that might be ready and waiting to taste. read more

Came here with my parents as a pit stop on our road trip and it was great! Guys behind the bar were super helpful in getting my Dad (just a regular old beer!) and mixed a sour and seltzer to give my Mom a perfect drink. We loved the pinball machine and just hanging out here. My fiance wears his shirt all the time. If we're ever in the area, we will definitely be back! read more

This was the final brewery stop of the day for us and it was a really good one to end on. Most breweries in the area are downtown or in industrial looking areas. This place is inside of an old State health Dept building(or something like that) and converted to apartments and this brewery is on the end. There is plenty of parking and some outdoor seating. This place had a very low key vibe in my opinion. There was a mixture of young couples with kids to older groups. They also have a lot of beers on tap to choose from... several IPA and dark beers. We did a flight of 4. The best of the ones we tried in my opinion was Lil' red. It is a red beer with just a taste of coffee on the finish but not overpowering. Tom was the bartender and was a very nice guy. This is a cool place. I will definitely go back. This is definitely worth checking out. read more

I'm always up for trying local breweries when I travel and A Few Old Goats looked the most promising to me in the Roanoke area. Interesting location for a brewery. It was cold when we visited so everyone was inside but I *think* the large patio out front was theirs. It was football Sunday when we were here and this is my definitely a football place. The service was good and it was dog friendly. I found the beers average. Between my husband and I we tried tasters of pretty much everything they had on tap. My favorite was their gose. read more

Zac is a great bar tender. Very informative on the product he has on hand and not pushy to get you to "just pick one". They had a great beer selection and not just all IPAs with one or two others for the non IPA drinkers. Prices are also very good. They offer flights, 5,10,12,13, and 16 ounce pours. Plus a couple growler options. Nice fenced off outside area too. This one is one is slightly off the beaten path of the main area in downtown, and probably not the busiest place you'll find. But that could also be what you're looking for--something quieter. Also if you are confused that you seem to be at an apartment complex, you're probably in the right place. The bar/brewery is in the same building as flats(apartments). You enter through the same entrance too. Big ding on this place is there are no food offerings! They need to advertise as bring your own food(BYOF) for their customers. Or work out an option where delivery to AFOG is cheap for paying customers of the bar/brewery. Can't believe they've been around four years and I just know about them. Great spot. I'll be back. read more

Took me a minute to find it as I thought my GPS was playing tricks on me. You enter through the backside where there is a parking lot and a nice outdoor area. Great beer. They had a couple sours we enjoyed. They also had a jalapeño ale or sour or something that was great. I don't recall what type of beer it was but it is legit. Can game could use some upgrading as they only sell single cans and to me, it's smart from a business aspect, but wayyy over priced to the customer. I'd go back. read more

We had a flight then pint of our favorite - a nice solid ipa "cursory glance" The beer tender was friendly and offered us free pretzels or chex mix to snack on. One of our favorite stops in the Roanoke Tour de Brew and sticker quest. Table and bar seating and we enjoyed the bbq food truck that was outside. It sits adjacent and is part of some kind of residence building so you may think you are in the wrong spot. Fear not and walk up to the door and you'll see the sign on the door. read more

A hidden gem!!! Curtis served us samples of all of their amazing beers and suggested a local restaurant that delivered great burgers, pizza and salad to accompany our night. The bar is in a plain building but parking is really easy. The bar is spacious and comfortable with an easy going ambience. The music form the 60s and 70s gives it a relaxed feel. A perfect evening. An amazing host, great beer and a wonderful place to hang out. read more

This is what you'd want in a neighborhood brewery. Nothing fancy but they have all the styles you could want. Tom was the most genuine owner I've met at any of the hundreds of breweries I've been to - I couldn't have felt more welcome & it was refreshing seeing an owner asking patrons if they needed water. Don't judge this brewery by its size! Seriously! These guys are pumping out some WICKEDLY awesome small batch beers! I've been there twice in the last month and they've already started going through new beers. These guys are going to give the other local breweries a run for their money. read more

Limited beer selection, and you can tell the bartenders are pretty new. The inside of the space is a little weird, kind of uncomfortable and cold/not welcoming. It is not super easy to find-- you have to walk through or around an apartment building. There is street parking. (The lot is private for the apartment building). With all the breweries around town, not really worth an extra visit. read more
