Super cute place! I'm not a huge wine person, so I can't really vouch for the quality of the wine. However, I did enjoy the wine and chocolate flight (mainly the chocolates LOL) and the wine slushee. The slushee was definitely more palatable for me and didn't taste too much like alcohol. The place had a very calm and fun environment. There was a foosball table, games, pool table, ample seating, and a reading nook type area. The view from the tables was really beautiful. The drive there was a bit wild (we took many wrong turns LOL) but still worth the drive! We didn't talk too much to the person at the counter but they seemed chill enough. read more

My friend and I each tried the chocolate and wine pairing and then shared a girl scout cookie and wine pairing. The wines were pretty good but what was really great was the ambiance. They had a live guitarist/singer who was really good (Chris Hammock) and they had a lot of games available to play as well as a pool table. The girl who helped us was very friendly. This family run winery is just so charming! Family friendly and delicious wines! They do offer "refrigerated snacks" like cheese and crackers and nibbles. During season they have food trucks visit, for heavier fare. The setting is beautiful and the service is wonderful! read more

The bottle labels are works of art by the owner's daughter-in-law in keeping with the fables & feathers theme. Others there enjoyed some of the beer brews. One of my favorite stops during a recent visit to Smith Mountain Lake! To get to Fables & Feathers, you'll take a winding road into an isolated residential area. At first, hubby and I weren't sure we were navigating correctly until we turned in the drive and saw the parking lot behind the house and a separate garage and the expansive winery spreading out from the rear of the house. You'll head into a side entrance on the house and head directly upstairs. We were greeted right away by a bartender. They have so much to choose from - beers brewed on site, wines and flights for both and wine slushies. They have a good variety of prepackaged snacks and drinks for kiddos as well. Just past the bar, there is a huge open room with comfy seating, tables, bar-height tables, board games, foosball, game books, you name it. Wonderful place to spend a few hours/rainy day/cozy evening. Outside, there are additional tables with covered umbrellas overlooking the vineyard and an adjacent area for little ones with playground equipment, lawn games and a sand table. It seems they have literally something for everyone. Inside the bar area, you'll also find a nice collection of gifts for wine lovers and non-winos alike. Hubby and I both selected wine flights and enjoyed our drinks outdoors. They have a very large menu for the flights. He had a red flight while I enjoyed a semi-sweet white flight. Both had some delicious offerings. My favorite was the Riesling and Traminette. I was very tempted by the chocolate & wine flight, but wanted to save my sugar for later in the day. The truffles they serve looked beautiful! Our visit to F&F was a wonderful experience. I would highly recommend going out of your way to pay a visit to this winery! read more

Beautiful, charming, family run. Had short stay in Roanoke with wife and friends while driving our way home back up northeast. We lucked out!! Were immediately welcomed after parking with a quick taste of products prior to being produced. Went inside to gorgeous tasting room overlooking vineyard. Adam was friendly and welcoming and assisted us all with selections of both wine and beer flights. Proceeded to sit outside with perfect views of the vineyard. Paired all with cheese and crackers and couldn't have been more satisfied. Just go there!!! And enjoy like we did. Cheers!!! read more

New winery - just opened up May 20, 2021. Really nice husband and wife couple, very engaged with their customers. Beautiful outdoor space with tables and large umbrellas. Indoor space has a foosball table, pool table and board games. Also ample seating through a great sun room. We ordered both a wine flight and a beer flight. Wine flight was $14 and you can select 4 wines. The beer flight was $8 and you can select 4 beers. I opted for the Riesling, Pinot Noir, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. My favorite was the Cabernet Franc but I was honestly more impressed with the beer! My favorite was the pineapple cider and we ended up getting a growler filled for $20 plus $5 for the growler. The owner was nice enough to give us ice for the long drive home. read more

A fantastic spot for our rainy afternoon! I enjoyed their sparkling wine the most. My mother in law enjoyed her ciders. My husband and father in law enjoyed the beers. They allow you to bring in your own snacks which is interesting. We enjoyed watching their outdoor cats walk around the winery from the windows. They have many games to choose from - pool, foseball, cards, board games. The gentleman serving the wind was kind and quick. They had snacks for sale. I wanted cheese but all that was left when I went up was goat cheese. Overall, a great afternoon spent. read more

The wine and service excellent. We did not have an opportunity to enjoy the grounds as it was a rainy day. Unfortunately being forced to sample our wine inside we were a little overwhelmed by the number of young children playing loudly indoors. The wide open floor plan reverberated the sound creating a very noisy atmosphere. Would love to return when we are able to enjoy the grounds. read more

This winery is absolutely gorgeous! It felt like such a hidden gem. We were hesitant to go in at first because it was in a very remote area and almost looked like it was someone's house but it was actually much larger and we are SO glad we did visit. The wine was excellent and having the choice of beer and cider in addition to wine was wonderful. The inside was beautiful and they had many games and even a pool table and foosball. Fables & Feathers is a bit of a trek on winding mountain roads, but it's well worth the drive if you are a wine-lover like me. I always say you can tell how much a winery cares about their product by the way they care for their [grape] vines, and we could see right away that their vines were maintained incredibly well. The tasting room is straight up the stairs through the main entrance, and I also noticed a handicap accessible entrance on the other side of the building. They offered two different flights and we ordered one of each so we could share. (They also offered beer flights if you are into that!) Every single wine we tasted was great. My favorites were the Merlot and the Cabernet Franc, and my significant other liked the Riesling and Rkatsiteli. (Our taste buds are clearly the complete opposite! Lol) I was really surprised to see the tasting order on the white flight as the Dry-Riesling was listed first. I did ask about it and was told it had the fewest residual sugars, which was also surprising. Aesop's White did have a delicious honey smell and taste to it and was on the sweeter side, but the Chardonnay and Sadie's White both felt drier on the palette. We have visited quite a few wineries in Virginia and this location has made its way into my top three picks so far for wine quality/flavor, overall ambiance, and price point/offerings. For a relaxing and laid-back atmosphere with plenty of activities and high quality wine, Fables & Feathers is a must-try winery in the Blue Ridge! read more

Gen I was fantastic and very knowledgeable about the wines at Fables and Feathers. What a great history. My wife, son and daughter-in-law did the tasting (I'm the DD 'cause I've found very few Virginia wines I would spend the money on for a bottle) but me party was effusive with praise for 90 % of the wines served. Jen provided us with background on her artwork displayed on the bottles. Our recommendations- White - all, Red- all. This winery also has beer and ciders. My family had a lovely visit this past weekend (Sept 22). The grounds are attractive. There is a play set that children can enjoy while parents sip adult beverages. They have wine and beer. The indoor space is gorgeous. Lots of natural light with a pool table, foosball, and board games available. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. There was a food vendor and live music when we visited. Oh and the truffles. If you want a sweet treat be sure to grab a truffle. read more

What a lovely find! We were staying about 30 minutes away with a group of 10 friends (5 couples). The ladies ventured out for shopping and sightseeing. We happened on Fables & Feathers via a Google search. It was a gorgeous, sunny day outside and a bustling day at the vineyard on the inside. The owner was behind the bar while various other family members were serving. We had a cozy window table and enjoyed an hour of chatting and wine sipping ( a flight plus some mulled wine). Mmmmm. Fairly new owners but we wish them the very best as they have a prime venue overlooking some healthy acreage. Get out there and visit Fables & Feathers. read more

Great new winery. It seems like the whole family is involved in some way and the ones we met were super nice. While nice people are great we are there for the wines and they didn't disappoint. One of us had the Hummingbird flight - sweet wines and the other one had what I believe was called Eagle - white and red mix. Of course, we liked some better than others, but we ended leaving there with 6 bottles of wines. They also have beers which they craft and on this day there were selling peach sangria made of course with one of their wines. This place is now added to our list of favorites - btw one of our other favs is Anika Ridge. I'm just adding that because when someone says favorites you wonder what other places they love and if it's someplace like Peaks of Otter than I know that we have very different taste in wine - not bad just different. read more
