It's so beautiful here. I went with my husband midday and it wasn't busy which was so nice because we got to talk to the owner and learn about the land. He was so kind and welcoming, it felt like sitting down with a distant relative and having a glass of wine. Very pretty - and definitely out of the way - location, with easy drinking wines. They had a large selection, although only a few were my style (I'm a bold red drinker). I can't remember how many acres of vines they have or how many cases/year they have, although for the time being almost everything is brought in from neighboring vineyards. Sadly, their vines were badly damaged in a previous winter so they had to extensively replant. Despite its remoteness, it was fairly busy. Maybe that shouldn't surprise me; most were locals, who were there to play Frisbee, listen to the music, enjoy the view, and drink some wines on a lazy day. I did enjoy the Traminette, which was citrusy, and the off-dry Riesling. read more

We went and had a lovely time. The owner was friendly and informative. The seating area is whimsical and airy with an amazing view of the mountain range . The blue bear white was by far my favorite wine followed closely by the resiling. My husband who is not a huge wine drinker actually said it was amazing. read more

Another rustic favorite. The tasting room is one of the more unusual ones--inside a barn that resembles an antique store. On a nice day, bring a blanket or sit on the picnic tables on the sloping land--views of the Blue Ridge and Alleghenies on all sides. One of the few wineries in VA that makes Gewürztraminer. This winery, Virginia Mountain and Fincastle wineries make for a good day-long excursion in the mountains north of Roanoke (off I-81). But bring a good map, or a reliable GPS. These spots are a little hard to find. read more

We were very disappointed with our experience of this vineyard. It might even be an understatement to say that the wine offerings were offensive to the palette. The Riesling was the only thing I found drinkable (although it did not taste like a Riesling). Despite how bad the wine was, the vineyard was somehow packed full of people. The one positive of our experience were the mountain views opposite the withering vine crops. There are far better options nearby that should be considered. read more

Last Sunday, my wife and I had the opportunity to visit Blue Ridge vineyards. We absolutely loved it! Although we were the only guests there, Barbara was beyond hospitable in providing us a tasting. The wines were extremely drinkable. The two high end reds, especially the Cab Franc were wonderful. This vineyard offers lovely views, lots of space for picnics, and trails where you can seek a private walk spot to lounge and enjoy your time there. BRV is a wonderful country vineyard with truly welcoming owners. Try it. I bet you'll like it too! read more

Enjoyed visiting this place with the wife and a friend. It is absolutely worth the trip out into the sticks, we loved it. The staff was very nice and personable. They even gave us directions to some very nice places to eat. The wine was good too, absolutely worth trying. Virginia wines have gotten better over the years, and this winery is no exception. Pity this year's crop was a bust. I will come back to taste more! read more

This was a lovely winery with beautiful views! The staff were friendly and knowledgeable about their wines. We enjoyed a tasting (alone was $5/2 people) and two glasses of wine ($5/each with the glass). The wines were pretty good, leaning toward the sweet side. Prices were compatible to your small wineries. ($12-18/bottle). Dog & kid friendly a plus!! But plenty of open space to enjoy a private relaxing glass of wine. read more

Incredible setting, amazing views, I would imagine this to be an unbelievable venue for a wedding. We did not enjoy the wine as much as others, though nothing struck a sour chord with us; just that nothing excited us that much either. But both of us would go back for the views and the setting in a heartbeat. read more

Lovely little place I will be sure to come back to! I had two people with me who are not wine drinkers and really liked the wine! We bought two bottles to take him with us! You must try the solstice! Best wine I've had in awhile. The place was decorated so cute and Deborah was a lovely woman! Everyone should try this place. Omg this place is wonderful! The location is so picturesque. There are gorgeous mountains behind a large open field. The building is rustic and warm and just lovely! The staff is so nice. They will really walk you through the process of how they make the wines. The tasting is so much fun! They really let you take your time to decide what you like. The Riesling is fabulous! Honestly though, I've never had a bad wine there. They do a good job keeping the integrity of the wines. If it's not a good batch they don't bottle it. Definitely worth the drive! read more

Visited on Oct. 1, 2017. Got a bottle of Big Bear red that was certainly spoiled. We have visited at least 5 times in the past and never had an issue, always great wine. We poured the rest of the bottle out and made our exit. We will try again at a later date but I think they have had a storage issue or cork issue. It certainly didn't take away from the beautiful grounds. read more

I normally do not take the time to write reviews; but after reading Kelsey Q.'s, I was motivated to do so about Blue Ridge Vineyard. The fact is, Kelsey Q. got it all right untill she got to the wine. I would be hard pressed to improve upon the overall description of the winery, except to say the staff is always friendly, knowledgable and helpful. However, when it comes to the wine, Kelsey Q does not know what the devil she is talking about! When the full selection is availabe, Blue Ridge has an excellent selection of wines, especially when you consider it is a small farm winery that grows most or all of its own grapes. In fact, that is my only real complaint, they sell out of so much of their wines that later in the year they are out of a lot of their wines. If you find a favorite, you might want to consider stocking up! One of my favorites is their Pinot Noir, which, by the way, is completely dry. I also, like thier Cab Francs (they have two, an oaked and unoaked version - I forget the year.) The Cab Francs were also completely dry! P.S. I almost forgot - If you are a dog lover, bring your dog, they even have trails you can take a hike on. They also have several wonderful winery dogs, one of which does some of the most amazing tricks! read more

Barbara, the owner of the property was extremely insulting. This is definitely not a family friendly vineyard. Or maybe it was our nationality. Who knows? Our children were not misbehaved, but just acting like normal happy children. The children that were probably her grandchildren or somehow related, were very excited to see our children and looked for them to play. They were playing nicely outside, not rambunctious. Whatever it was that irked Barbara, she could have shown politeness and tact the first and only time she approached us and we would have quickly picked up that this was an 'adult preferred' vineyard and left. Instead she starts by insulting us as parents and our children repeating that she had never in her life seen children like ours. She said more. She also stated that her vineyard was a quiet vineyard and the surrounding grassy area and wildlife was not to be disturbed. Yet our kids had not strayed from the picnic table area. What is interesting is that two hours later there was a jazz festival scheduled with 3-4 bands and a few hundred expected guests that would be sprawled all accross her property. There would be barbecuing and alcohol (sangria and wine) served. Her 'quiet and undisturbed' vinyard would no longer be so quiet and undisturbed. I regret buying several bottles of wine there. I should have returned them as no sooner had we finished paying for it and cheese and crackers, than she comes out ranting at us. When a parent had the 'audacity' to defend her children she quickly and unhesitantly kicked us all out. Reader, are you planning to go there with your family, spouse and kids? Don't. read more
