Had dinner there last Saturday night but did not have the Prime Rib special. The place has lots of draft options. Probably more than 40 if not more. They also have a large selection of bourbons. There are plenty of bbq options and plenty of weekly specials to choose from. They have five different sauces that can be used and plenty of side options. We typically sit at the bar and the service is always good. They have lots of tvs and the place is usually pretty loud but overall a good place to get bbq in the area. read more

Ambiance dark. Outside dining available however, whatever temp is outside is what you will feel inside while eating. Someone recommended this place. We went on a Saturday night and they were out of 3 main meats leaving a choice between brisket, prime rib or chicken wings. Also, out of 2 sides that night. I decided to try all their sides they had available. Out of 6 available the Mac and cheese was the only decent side. The worse sides are collard greens and Bacardi baked beans. Wings were nothing outstanding. Brisket same as any other BBQ place. Prime rib they say they only cook medium because that's how you cook that type of meat but it was raw. We asked them to cook it a little bit longer and they refused to do so. When I packaged up the prime rib and opened it the next day, there was so much blood on the bottom of the prime rib that it had coagulated, that's how raw it was. Needless to say we had to order another entrée because the person who ordered it would not eat raw meat. So they went on the safe side and ordered a salad. I am kind of flabbergasted that they would be out of mostly all of their meats on a weekend. I do not recommend this place. I just recommend this place as a bar to get drinks and that is it. Staff not friendly just there doing what they need to do. Plenty of other barbecue places try those out first. read more

We loved this place and will definitely be back. They have lots of beer on tap and a whiskey menu with pages to choose from. Staff was friendly and helpful. And the food, oh my goodness, the food. So good. We ordered a meat tray with brisket and smothered fries also containing brisket. Beyond better than any other brisket we've had in NWI. My mouth is watering thinking about it. Poor Manager/Customer service I went to docs with a party of six An hour and a half before they closed. I tipped $50 on $170 bill because the service was pretty good. I made an order to go of 10 wings at $14.00 3 sides,3 desserts and I specifically asked for three barbecue sauces. I live about an hour away and when I got home I was only given nine wings and no barbecue sauce. I called to speak to a manager explained what happened and they told me next time I come in to ask for a manager and they will check my order. He also said it was late about to be closing so things happen, Are you serious? They didn't even offer to reimburse my one wing that I paid for, what a joke!!! Been here a few times pre Covid and during. They stayed open for a long time during 2020 as a take out only place but unfortunately had to close their doors for a while and finally reopened in early April. During Covid the minimal dine in was well spaced, very clean and food was still amazing as per the usual. As things shut down in the state they began doing take out exclusively which was a okay, no fun fine in experience but the staff was still remarkable. Portion sizes were as generous as always, but as with any take out not as hot when you got it home/office vs dine in. Every time I came to pick up, the place was spotless, folks gloved and masked up, contactless was an option as well. Finally in April 2021 came back with a vengeance! Food is amazing, better than before the close I think. Since the distancing mandate was stopped, all tables can and were occupied. I don't remember their mask policy, they've become such a normal thing to see that I think my mind ignored whether or not they were present . My friend and I did wear them into the restaurant but, took them off after sitting down to eat. Our meal was EPIC, portion size was amazing. We got the 2 meat platter and the fries formerly know as redneck (they split the versions into Texas with brisket and 'Bama with Pulled Pork), as well as a side of wings. Brisket was tender, slightly fatty and marblized, delicious as fuuuuuck with a hearty dry rub crust and yummy smoke ring. The chicken was great, not my fave smoked meat but I wanted to give it a try. Personally I probably won't get it again but, if you like chicken, it's definitely tasty! As for the wings, they were a perfect little snack along side. 100% recommend for a lil chicken snackage. We LOVE this place. On a good day, it is the best BBQ is NWI. Bomber's and this place switch off in my opinion. They are both good. We've been to Doc's for several parties with large numbers and they never disappoint. Everyone is happy to go there. My favorite is the smoked chicken with the white Alabama BBQ sauce. However, their brisket and recently their pulled pork are also really good. All their sauces are good and worth trying to discover your favorite. Drawbacks: The chairs are uncomfortable, and I get sick of their sides. The fries are good, but that's it. Just good. The Bacardi baked beans can be too sweet, and sometimes the Mac and cheese needs salt. There are other sides. To me, they are also only okay. Still, definitely go there for good, reasonably priced BBQ with huge portions. Their appetizers are also really good too. Cannot go wrong with Doc's. read more

My husband & I both had pulled pork.. delicious. No problem there but my home made chips & his fries were way to salty. We told this to waitress when she asked how everything was... response "sorry about that" I brought up again when she took plates away with both fries & chips on plate... again "sorry about that". I don't know if response was due to young waitress, but I feel we should have been offer another side or remake potato select with less salt. We ordered catering from Doc's for a party last week and it was amazing! Everything was so good! They had really nice options. I looked around at some other BBQ places and felt like docs was most flexible. Their Mac n cheese was amazing, which was another reason we went with them over some others. So creamy and they use a white cheddar type sauce. The potato salad was soooo good! We loved it! It's funny because I think the smoked Turkey was our favorite of all the meats we ordered (pulled pork and brisket too). Which I wasn't expecting! The others were also great but I'm still thinking about how awesome the Turkey was! I might see if we can order it for thanksgiving! highly recommend! Now, I've always thought I wasn't a big fan of barbque, but today, I discovered I'm not a fan of barbque sauce! The food at Doc's does NOT need any sauce. I had a chicken plate with dirty rice and cole slaw. The chicken was moist, flavorful, and tender. I started eating it with a knife and fork but abandoned that process and just used my hands! My husband had the pulled pork sandwich with a hot link and pig wing. The sandwich was so robust that the big bun couldn't control it! Both meals came with delicious home made pickles. Absolutely embarrassingly bad service. Two servers at the bar (7/25/20). The man was nice enough, the woman simply ignored me the entire time. I ordered a beer and wings...finished my beer as they wings were delivered. Had my wings without a second beer. I could not get them to serve me. They were not that busy, but they were very inefficient. He knew at the end that no one offered me anything for about 20 min. I told him the service was the worst I've seen in awhile. He offered to buy my dinner. Told him no! Never try to make up bad service after the fact with a free meal...it's too late. Once I tell you a problem exists, apologize and try to make it better for the next person. I honestly say I will not return. I am in the area several times a year and have been to many good barbecue, craft brew and Bourbon Bar type establishments (in and around) the Crown Point area but now I found the right one! Entered on a Thursday evening and had choice of seating from bar to high top to standard table, they had a fair amount of people at the bar and around the restaurant but they have ample room and vast areas to accommodate very good size crowds, roomy! The atmosphere is exactly what I envision when I see an establishment claim to be a Smokehouse Neighorhood Bourbon Bar! The service was good, had Davianna take care of me while she trained Noelle and she informed me of the specials. Their Bourbon, Whiskey and Scotch selection offered a very good mix with a large number of Craft beer options that were well listed in various places around the restaurant/bar areas! I had my sights set on rib tips before even going but was tempted to choose or add chicken wings or brisket tacos that were specials for the day! I feel like I could NOT go wrong no matter the choice. I ordered the Old Fashioned (Benchmark) to get me started and help me make my entree choice which ended up being the Rib Tips with Greens and Potato Salad. A pound of the smoked goodness that comes sauced with their house Memphis Sauce (I usually get dry, unsauced tips but these were not soaked and overwhelmed with their sauce, they are very good) to which I added their Hot Sauce, mmm..mm! The Greens and Potato salad were solid sides that I would order again and again! Came here after class and it was pretty early so we were seated immediately. I didn't get a chance to see the entire seating area but it seem spacious. I went there on a Thursday and around 7 there was a live one man band there playing music which was really nice. The waitress are very attentive and kept checking to make sure everything was going well. Even got a offer to subsitutue on a drink cause my friend didnt enjoy the first one they had so the customer is amazing. Now on to the food and drinks. The platters are very filling. I haven't had a single thing let me down yet; flavor, moisture, and texture are all on point. With 60 different beers on tap and another couple dozen in bottles I never go thirsty either. If they have fried okra available, order it! Somehow it's crispy without the weird slimy mush in the middle. It doesn't come with ranch dressing but the Alabama white sauce on the table is a better accompaniment. First time? Split the meat sampler for two and choose your favorite for next time. Have been a fan of Docs for YEARS! we ordered curbside many times during the shutdown to support them. Today (a Friday night) we went and were completely taken back by the change in business model. Instead of being seated by a host(ess), speaking with a server, reading a menu, and enjoying the atmosphere, you enter, wait to order at a counter (while being ignored by an employee) and seat and serve yourself. We ordered a kids meal, 2 2-meat plates, a beer and a cocktail and the bill was nearly $70. And they left a place for a tip. A tip for what? Taking my order? I understand that prices went up because their cost for food went up. (We noticed the price change when ordering curbside.) But to have those prices AND to serve myself? No thanks. It felt more like a fast food experience than a restaurant. We asked for a refund and probably won't be back. No wonder the place was empty on a Friday night. Beyond disappointing. read more
