Rack of lamb and barbecue ribs
Geneva R.

This place is very small, but it's worth going to. We had the massively large BBQ Ribs & Rack of Lamb, they were both fall off the bone delicious. The portions were so big that we had to take half of our meals home. I wasn't a fan of the complementary bread, that was served with butter & a bulb of cooked garlic. The ambience gave a romantic feel to our dinner and all the employees were so friendly. It was a little pricey, but the perfect place to go to on a date night.

We've been coming to Keith's for over 20 years. It's a small town gem. Cute, old restaurant that you enter & walk past the kitchen, past the bar & up the stairs to the quaint dining area. Great bread with roasted garlic cloves. My favorite dish is the chili glazed scallops. Served with seasonal vegetables & mashed potatoes. Always perfectly prepared. I also love the pasta puttanesca. Seasonal ravioli with butternut squash is also a fav. My husband loves the huge half slab of ribs that fall off the bone. Great wine selection & bar options. The servers are awesome & knowledgeable. Most have been there almost as long as Keith's has.

Welcome to Whiting!!!! Perhaps late January is a little off season?

Rain delay? Breakfast adventure…read more Our baseball tournament got delayed bright and early thanks to Mother Nature, so instead of sitting around waiting, we did what any reasonable group would do, we went looking for food. Of course, I pulled up Yelp (because Yelp never lets me down) and it led us right down the road to Sunrise Cafe. I'm actually mad at myself for forgetting to take pictures because everything looked so good that I skipped photographer mode and went straight into eating mode. There were seven of us, and we covered just about the whole menu, Denver omelets, French toast, over-easy and sunny-side-up eggs, chopped beef with eggs, and more. Not a single complaint at the table. Everything came out hot, fresh, and absolutely delicious. The staff was incredibly friendly, the atmosphere was welcoming, and it had that family-friendly hometown feel that makes you want to come back. If you find yourself in the area looking for breakfast, do yourself a favor and stop in. Rain delay or not, this place was a home run.

I would NEVER step foot in here ever again!…read more On my very first visit, I was seated in the narrow room to the left where there was a row of booths on both sides in this long dining room. The male manager seated me and there I sat and sat and sat. Yes, the room was full with waitresses going back and forth, NOT one said hello, we'll be right with you, acknowledging that I was alive. After 10 minutes, I grabbed a male manager and said nobody is waiting on me. He gave me a cup of coffee and he went straight back into the kitchen and spoke with a cook about getting me a server. After waiting another 15 minutes, while waitresses were all around me, yet not one stopped to find out what I wanted to eat. After looking at their tired, dirty and late menu for far too many times. I got up and went up to pay for my lone cup of coffee. A male employee minding the desk, ran up to the register as if I was going to skip out on paying for the $3.50 cup of coffee. I told him I was sitting here for over 25 minutes and nobody bothered to wait on me. We're very busy! Try that excuse on someone else, that's bullshit! A well trained waitress would greet you properly and say something to you, not ignore you. I was dressed properly. What he should have done for my inconvenience was comp me the cup of coffee! I wasn't looking for anything for free but a good business person would have comped the coffee. I would NEVER step foot in this place ever again!

Well, I came to Yelp and Frankie V's popped up. Crazy thing, we do our grocery shopping across the street from Frankie V's! So we had passed it many times. We were warmly greeted by the bartender Natalie. She was awesome! It was full at the bar, Sunday Night Football so totally understandable. We sat in the booth. The booth was comfy and cozy. It's a cool spot, total "Cheers" vibe. We had our mind on fish sandwiches but the unassuming owner, Martina came by and greeted us. Then she gave us the rundown on what was the best items. EVERYTHING here is homemade, made from scratch! Loved that! She sold us on the special, 8pc chicken (the whole chicken), fries and an XL 1-topping pizza for $39.00. Well we got it and boy that was THEE BEST fried chicken I have had in YEARS. I mean YEARS! Literally fresh and dripping hot juices everywhere! It was seasoned to perfection! So good! The pizza was INCREDIBLE! It was a great crust and the flavor was amazing! The fries were good! Home cut, I could tell! We delighted in our meal! We look forward to returning soon and trying the fish!

We loved this place. This is basically an interesting spin on things, 1950s American pop culture,…read moreAmerican breakfasts and Mexican food. The prices are fantastic. The decor is really cool with a lot of 1950s and 1960s style antiques. There's an old jukebox that they are in the process of getting repaired. There are tons of old pictures on the walls and vintage newspaper advertisements. It has two dining rooms and the decorating all sticks with that 1950s and 1960s themes. The booths are in perfect repair and if you like you stepped into the 1950s, even the tables are the old style 1950s tables. It's a very charming place! All of the food was cooked perfectly. The service was impeccable and they are very nice. It's not a fancy place like you were downtown Chicago. It's a cute place that is arguably the best on the strip of 119th Street in Whiting..... At least when you're talking about this sort of style. There's plenty of street parking but they also have parking behind the place. They pay a lot of attention to detail to make the place feel comfortable, even live plants. When you Walk in the door, you notice that the room is painted robin's egg blue. The place is just so cheery it will make you happy.

This is a little bar/restaurant off 119th street, which is downtown Whiting. Service was very…read moreefficient & friendly even though they were terribly busy. We shared the Center Lounge Feast which was over 25 pieces of various seafood & an appetizer of fried cheese pierogi. Most of their food comes with a free salad buffet & pieces of cake but it's just some tomatoes, cucumber, lettuce & box recipe cake. More for just if you are desperate for your daily vege intake. The fried cheese perogies were excellent. Went very well with the sour cream. It's not the best seafood I've had but I did like it. It's plenty of food for 2. Maybe just stick with fried scallops & coconut shrimp. Frog legs were too dry. Fried fish was ok. But most definitely get a lot of the different perogies. The sides of mashed potatoes was good & mac & cheese okay. Good place to sit, have some beers & enjoy delicious perogies .

It's been over an hour and I'm now waiting in the car on a not so busy Tuesday night, for my husband to wait for our food, still...... it was pierogi, a sandwich and coleslaw. Not even a well done porterhouse takes this long . Not only that, the staff did not apologize, did not offer something for waiting an hour (not since our arrival, but since we ordered food). Don't come here in a hurry. We won't be back . A nice tip, pierogi shouldn't take an hour or look like they been swimming in a deep fryer that hasn't been cleaned for a month. Also put your fried foods in paper bags instead of styrofoam wrapped in cellophane to keep the oil spill from leaking out ! It Keeps things crisp, costs less, and is better for the environment.
