It was my first visit to Johnel's restaurant. It was packed in there because they had an inhouse generator that kept the place open for business. It was like Brookfield zoo in there, very crowded and it appears some the animals escaped captivity and came here for breakfast. My breakfast was adequate but nothing above and beyond. The ham was thin, with burned areas and not off the bone as I like it, but oh well. The coffee was bitter, I probably could have scrubbed and cleaned a frying pan with it. I was hungry, the price was right and I was satisfied. The service was good. My server was painfully pierced and tattooed and if the wind got a hold of her, she's look like a sheet of wallpaper flying down the street. There is no accounting for good taste in presentation these days. Johnel's wasn't bad but sure wasn't the best! All depends on how hungry or picky you are. Bon Appetite!

Simple, I love it. Slices are $5. I got 2 slices and a soda. The slices? Delish! Nice size, hot, not greasy so it was good! For $5 a slice, I got a pepperoni slice and 1 with sausage. They have apple soda! Got that and both were yummy! The young lady was super nice. Friendly, and I love that. It's a walk up so you order and you leave. The establishment is nice, clean and neat and I will return!

This place has two areas smoking and non smoking. You can play pool and shoot darts you can even play a few games. Oh yeah you can even play music on the jukebox. Now how cool it that. I like the face that you have plenty of room at the bar area as well as at the booths. Very roomy washroom and fresh. As for my drinks my drinks hit the spot We ordered pizza and onion rings. I have to say that the kid size pizza was plenty for two people. It was very hot and fresh and the onion rings was so yummy and really good. I have to say this is a place that I will be back to for the great drinks and to try some other things on the menu. By the way this place has a special every day of the week. No problem but why did I have to go ask after waiting 15 min for a drink when the place had about 11 people in it? Also, we went for drinks/food before a show at the Hard Rock (20 min away) after it was highly recommended by people doing the same as us- stopping before a show. We really wanted the cheese curds. Maybe a burger but none if it was available for some reason or another. Could you update your website? The website indicated none of this which would've been extremely helpful. We were hungry and wanted a cocktail!! Otherwise, I'd given all 5 because it is a cool place and friendly. Our waiter was great.

Reminds me of downtown Las Vegas where I used to live. It's a cool spot! The staff, Michelle and Greg were so awesome! We enjoyed hearing some downtown Hammond history. The smash burger? OMG! The best I've had since I've moved to the Midwest! It was cooked right on the grill! Fresh! Hubby had the Caesar wrap and it was delicious! We so enjoyed the space, our time and the conversation! Big fan of American deli in Atlanta and I was told this was the closest to that, right? ‍ everything was fye g. I walked in ready to get all wings but a sign that said jerk chicken fried rice & a 4 pc and a drink for $12 told me otherwise. My brother got the catfish & 4pc wing combo with a drink for the same price and added fries Wings were insane and at first I was mad I didn't get all wings but once I got into the jerk fried rice (only in Chicago bro) I was pleased. I had the galore sauce which was insane, tasted their bbq sauce on the side. Also insane. My brother got the sweet chili sauce on his wings which was also fire. Everything was just fye. Their drinks (I got behind the counter) are basically just koolaid which was also good if you like sweet drinks. Ambiance is pretty standard for these kinds of spots. 10/10 will be back for my next cheat meal on God

My fiancé hated the brisket and mac & cheese. We both thought the brisket did not really taste like brisket and definitely didn't seem like it was smoked. The mac & cheese had a strange cheese flavor, maybe just not to our liking. It was cheesy though and cooked well. We did enjoy the rib tips. I thought those were good without the sauce and had good flavor and a decent amount of meat.

They serve dinner on Wednesday and Friday night until 8p. You can go in any night for a beer and a shot of "Wolf Lake Elixir" at $2... $1.50 on a Sunday. Cash only, but there is an ATM. You walk in to a worn-in bar, taken from the original location at 81st and Exchange. A dining room is to the right with several tables. Families are welcome and always present. Nothing fancy, the home cooking is the star here. Out back there are picnic tables, bocci ball courts, and a sliver of Wolf Lake to enjoy. The dinner menu is heavy on fish and seafood: whitefish, perch, shrimp, frog legs, snapper, walleye, lobster, orange roughy, catfish, mahi mahi, crabcakes, fried clams, and basa. They filet all of it themselves. They also serve chicken, steaks, ribs, pork chops, sandwiches, and apps. I had the walleye and fried chicken. The walleye was lightly battered, the flavor of the fish coming through, and brushed with butter for some of the tastiest fried fish around. I haven't had fried chicken in years, but went back for seconds and thirds, it was great. Everything has a from-scratch feel to it. Rye bread from a local bakery is always available. The owner is a drunk. Upstairs is a transient residence. There are no specialty brews. The pool table is a miserable wreck. Hardly-used arcade games from a couple of decades ago abound. And the only food you'll ever see is subcontractor pizza from outside the building. All that said, if you want to drink drinks the way they're supposed to be made, if you love true neighborhood bars, if you want to play pool with good-but-non-judgmental types, if you want to drink alone or with eight friends, if you don't like shoulder throws as you're walking your drink around, if you like perfect jukeboxes, if you enjoy paying the absolute minimum, if you happen to be south, this is the bar for you. I've seen dogs stroll in with owners, met every employee in just two visits, and gotten to toast a birthday boy on a pub crawl (which, mysteriously, stayed around for three hours *longer* than it was supposed to), and hugged my bartender.
