My husband has lived in the area for a few years now and I just recently moved to the area. He wanted fish but from a fast food place and I prefer a sit down to eat. Well, I came to Yelp and Frankie V's popped up. Crazy thing, we do our grocery shopping across the street from Frankie V's! So we had passed it many times. We were warmly greeted by the bartender Natalie. She was awesome! It was full at the bar, Sunday Night Football so totally understandable. We sat in the booth. The booth was comfy and cozy. It's a cool spot, total "Cheers" vibe. We had our mind on fish sandwiches but the unassuming owner, Martina came by and greeted us. Then she gave us the rundown on what was the best items. EVERYTHING here is homemade, made from scratch! Loved that! She sold us on the special, 8pc chicken (the whole chicken), fries and an XL 1-topping pizza for $39.00. Well we got it and boy that was THEE BEST fried chicken I have had in YEARS. I mean YEARS! Literally fresh and dripping hot juices everywhere! It was seasoned to perfection! So good! The pizza was INCREDIBLE! It was a great crust and the flavor was amazing! The fries were good! Home cut, I could tell! We delighted in our meal! Friendly staff and a great chef who clearly cares about the food. Everything comes out fresh, hot, and full of flavor. The menu has a solid variety--pizza, wings, and the Italian beef are all excellent. It's got a bar vibe, but with plenty of booths it works perfectly for families too. I was visiting the area and wanted Italian food. The first things that impressed me was the friendliness of the staff. Everyone was so friendly, they asked questions, they gave recommendations, they kept checking in on us. Unfortunately, the pizza ovens were down so no pizza so we ordered lasagna, a sausage sandwich and pizza chips. We loved it all. I would order all of those items again. I especially loved the lasagna which was made with ham, as opposed to beef and the portions were generous. We were so impressed that we returned the following evening to try out the pizza. We weren't impressed with the friend calamari but we really enjoyed the pizza! As we left, I again commented on how friendly the staff was and how good the service was. read more

Traveled to Whiting for a basketball game and found Frankie V's online. The owner was very friendly and very helpful. We had the pizza chips and a sausage and pepperoni pizza. Everything was amazing! Love the original decor. Would definitely stop again if we get back to the area. read more

Stopped in for my first time yesterday for lunch and was pleasantly impressed with how good the food is. I ordered the Italian beef sandwich with fries. The beef was delicious. Well seasoned and tender. Fries came out hot,crispy and not overly salty. While I was eating my beef sandwich I noticed a couple leaving with a takeout pizza order. I ask them if the pizza is good here. They couldn't stop raving about how good the pizza is. So I had to find out myself. I proceeded to order a medium thin crust with cheese and Italian sausage. The pizza did not disappoint. Great crispy crust and well balanced pizza sauce topped with a flavorful sausage and very fresh cheese. Service was provided by the owner Martina and her sister Natalie. Both were very nice and friendly. There was also an another woman bartender who was also very nice,sorry I couldn't remember her name. I loved the ambiance at this little establishment because they were playing a lot of Jimmy Buffet songs. All in all I would definitely recommend and go back to Frankie V's. Absolute hidden gem! My family was in route to Chicago and made a pitstop to eat here for dinner. The homemade recipes were absolutely amazing. I got the Italian Beef Sandwich, and it was wonderful. But above the food was the service and the atmosphere! Martina was super friendly and welcoming and we had a lovely experience. Wonderful food! We have dined in and ordered delivery. When we dined in we were greeted and served by the owner. She is fabulous! The dine in experience is relaxed, casual and informal. We had the Chicken Vesuvio sandwich and the Fish Sandwich when we dined in, they were both wonderful. At the time the owner told us we had to try the pizza, and we did! We placed delivery orders for the stuffed which was so amazing, and then we tried the thin crust which was equally amazing. The crust is crispy and wonderful. We had leftovers of both, we heated them the next day, and the crust crisped up perfectly which is rare in cheap fast pizza. I just ordered the fried chicken for delivery. I'm sure it will be just as amazing as the rest of the food we've tried. read more

In order to write this review, I am forced to give it one (1) star. First time here. After we were seated, drinks came. We waited about 20 minutes for us to order. It wasn't that busy. Ordered calamari, wings and lasagna. Calamari was chewy and tough. I've never had calamari that way. Wings - meh. Lasagna - meh. Shocked to see it served in a plastic bowl (if you look underneath, it states "do not microwave") wished I had taken a picture. Never had lasagna with "Italian ham", it looked like deli meat. Online pictures are totally different from in person. My aunt commented that the majority of the people sitting in booths .... had pizza. The bathroom ... close your eyes or wait til you get home. This is definitely a neighborhood bar, with bar food. Originally, we were going to go elsewhere. I wanted to try this place, in hopes this would be a new place to dine in occasionally. I mean the crust has a perfect crust! We had sausage, mushroom and fresh garlic! I felt like I had a bowl of pasta on my pizza! I have fell in love of my 1st visit! Just wanted to start off the review by admitting that I never review food...I love trying new spots but never take the time to jot my thoughts down on Yelp. My buddy and I stopped in last night and were quickly met by the owner, Martina. She sat us down and rolled right into conversation about how she obtained the establishment. She gave recommendations about what to try and we ultimately decided on the calamari and a large pizza (sausage, pepperoni, onion and mushroom). The calamari was on point...it definitely hit the spot. And the pizza was one of the best thin crust Chicago style pizzas I've ever had. Was blown away by the sauce, ingredients and even the crust was perfect in my opinion. I highly recommend this spot...you'll be welcomed in for some amazing food and great conversation. read more

After trying to order twice and told they were too busy to take my order I was kinda disappointed with the pizza and the place as a whole. Great food, great hospitality and great service BUT charging for ice in drinks will be a talking point for us for a long time. Even if we had known about this prior to the owner visiting our table, I doubt we would have mentioned it as literally left us speechless. I'd visit again, but have drinks ice free. Looks like the regular locals enjoy coming in, and yes, some can get boisterous in their familiarity The special of the day was the Stuffed Italian Beef Pizza to which we added Peppers and Onions, of course -- think of it as a Cheesy Beef Sandwich baked into a flakey crust. (Not made with traditional pizza sauce or marinara.) It was FANTASTIC. A little au jus on the side, and boom - done! Get it! Medium was plenty for two with half to take home. We also started with a Cesar Salad to split (sorry no pic), which was super fresh with homemade dressing (I assume, because it was good). We were looking for an Italian restaurant to eat at as we were driving from Ohio to Wisconsin when we stumble across Frankie V's. Our waitress was friendly and attentive and gave great recommendations. I ordered the combo sandwich with beef and Italian sausage. 10/10! My husband ordered the Chicken Parmesan over spaghetti and said it was one of the best he's ever had! We also had the privilege of speaking with the owner who informed us that he makes the the Italian sausage from scratch! I was genuinely very impressed this afternoon!! While picking FRANKY Vs randomly it was the best food I've had in awhile. The bartender (forgot to get her name) was super friendly, attentive and fast!! Very friendly, nice and good people in the bar as well!! Very impressed and I've been a bartender and restaurant manager for 20 yrs now so I know good people and food when I see it. You guys rock!! also took to go menus bc they deliver and we have a boat at the marina close by. I will be recommending them and spreading the word at the marina!! Good work all around read more
