At 1st, I was highly turned off because as a "foodie" I like to see the I inside of a new restaurant that I've never seen & I like to have a full experience of what the ambiance is and then choose where I'd like to sit but unfortunately the hostess refused my request to see the inside of the restaurant (something I've never experienced before) but after I explained that I'm a foodie & I do reviews & eat out a LOT, she conceded & allowed me to self "tour" the restaurant & sit wherever I wanted. (Exhausting mentally to be quite honest)!!! Ultimately, I chose the sidewalk patio seating area & was able to enjoy a wonderful & quiet evening in a very decent restaurant. My server, Cate was a 1st class waitress & performed her skills perfectly. I even asked her recommendations & she advised the deep dish. I took her advice & loved my pizza experience (thanks Cate, enjoy the $20!) You made it a great experience (other than the introduction with the hostess). Hey fellow Yelp users! I went to the Beggars Pizza Whiting location on Sunday, April 28, 2024, to get some early dinner with my boyfriend and his younger brother. Wait Time & Service: The day & time we went, there was no wait. We were immediately able to get seated no problem. Our server was Elena. She was very sweet & attentive. She got us refills without us even asking. She went above & beyond for customer service. She needs a raise stat. Food: The food tasted so good! We ended up ordering 1 order of mozzarella sticks, 1 order of cheesy potato munchers (I highly recommend this if you like tater tots with cheese, reminds me of the cheesy tots from Burger King), 1 large sausage + pepperoni thin crust pizza, & 1 sausage + cheese deep dish pizza. Overall Experience: Overall, I had a great experience with my visit at this location. I will definitely come back if I'm ever in the area or craving pizza from Beggars Pizza. I had a great experience up until the end. My boyfriend, his younger brother, & I were exiting out the place and we said thank you to the people in the front. The 2 young women in the front that day didn't say anything to us, which I thought was a bit rude (in my opinion at least). Aside from that, great service & delicious food. Bonus: They had a cute, nostalgic arcade at the back of the restaurant. I love arcades in general, so it was nice visit the arcade after we finished eating. I'm not sure if all Beggars Pizza locations have an arcade, but definitely a great addition to the restaurant especially for families. By far my favorite pizza in the area and this location is no different. Great location with easy street parking. We sat at the bar and had some beers while we waited for our friends. Instead of getting a table we stayed at the bar which was great. The pizza took about 35 minutes but when it arrived it was so good. Nothing like Beggars pizza. Great place to have a beer and get some pizza. read more

Good service, good food, and even better company. Had a large thin crust half sausage pizza with garlic topping, 12 wings with buffalo sauce on the side, Cesar salad, fries, and kids Mac and cheese. Pizza crust was nice and crispy, garlic paired well with the sweetness of the sauce. Fries were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, just how they should be. Seeiously this place should be shut down! I will be reporting this to Health department! Placed an order for 12 pc chicken dinner for the family. And as we were eating blood started to come out some of the pieces. Opened them up and they were all raw! This is unbelievable! This is a serious health concern! This place was my families last resort due to all the restaurants in the surrounding area were packed and this place wasn't. (Now I know why) First the place literally only had 2 other parties besides my family. They only had one server and one bus girl.Ordered the nachos but not only did it take 45 minutes to make, my main entrees came out before the appetizer. Out waitress told us that the chicken was the reason why it was taking so long but not only did the nachos suck ass, it looked like they put it in the microwave and doused it in jalapeno juice and had hardy any chips. The fries were ok and were kinda cold which was a bummer but at that point and having to wait almost 35 minutes for fries we were hangry. What killed my hunger at that point was right across out table which a mouse trap which at the point I didn't even want to eat my sandwich anymore. I wasn't mad at the waitress but more mad at the shitty cook and the shitty manager who I never saw help their staff nor apologies to customers for the long wait and crappy food which equals shitty customer service. Never again at this spot and I should have just went to white castles because the food would have been better and cheaper. I love supporting Whiting businesses and since it's the only place with outdoor seating I continue to go but it continues to disappoint. The service is super slow and the staff acts like they're zombies. The deep dish lacks flavor and comes out cold. The "greeters" just stare at you until you say something. I think the unfriendly staff and lack of outgoing customer service sucks the most about this place. This COULD BE an awesome spot to grab wings and beer. Last time I tried that, our bartender ignored us and I ended bussing my own table. I'm only writing this review in hopes that someone reads these and brings them up at a staff meeting so they can IMPROVE on customer service. I really do want to love this place. read more

Don't know what happened to this place. The pizza use to be great everytime I had it there. The last few times I haven't like it at all. It's extremely dry with hardly any sauce or sausage on it. I will note this for other reviewers: I seen a particular reviewer wonder if those who leave reviews are real reviewers or if they happy to know or are family of those who work for Beggars, I can state I am real reviewer I do not review to help boost ratings, I believe in honesty is why my reviews are normally long, as I like to help out other customers on making a choice, but a just because my food is good does not mean others will have a great experience. Remember each day is a different day, a Chef/Cook will cook one way one day and then another on a different day, we all have ups and downs in life, but no one is perfect... Looking through this locations reviews, I guess I can not comment on how it is to dine in because the last 2 to 3 times we placed an order for delivery to our home. This last time we ordered a deep dish with pineapple, chicken, and spinach, and of many deep dish pizzas I have ever had I will be honest not the best I have had, but it was not the worst I have had either. In other words every establishment has good chefs/cooks and bad chefs/cooks. I am not going to judge them unless the food is over or under cooked. In my opinion we liked the pizza we received. Also we did their pick 33 appetizer: Curly Fries, Breaded Zucchini, and Breaded Mushrooms, which I will say I love their appetizers, they do not over fry them nor have extra frying oil on them as other businesses do these days. Now for today's review (Wednesday 05-23-2018): We ordered their Italian Beef sandwiches. They were both the same except I got mozzarella cheese on mine, but they both came with Natural Juice, on Garlic Bread, and with Sweet Peppers. Then on the side we ordered an order of 12 Chicken wings with Honey BBQ on the side, and also an order for the Curly Cheese Fries, with 2 cans of Lipton Brisk Tea. We have had their Curly Fries before and love them, but mainly this review is on their Italian beef and Chicken wings. Italian Beef: I am not sure what others may think of their sandwiches, but I have to say I will be ordering from them again, my Lady and I liked their sandwiches, compared to other places we have ordered from, Beggars has flavor. They may not be the best in other's eyes, but in ours for around the Hammond, IN and other locations we lived in, We love the sandwich. Chicken Wings: I personally have had wings from different places like Hooters in Schererville, IN. , Papa Johns, and various other locations. I liked how Beggars did their Wings, they have flavor. They are not over fried like some places do, the meat and breading sort of falls off the bone without an issue, if that makes sense to say. Overall We were happy today and other days we have ordered from them at the Whiting, IN location. We use to go to the Lansing, IL location, but the quality went down hill and we gave up on them, until we seen a location in Whiting one day driving through Whiting. read more

I have been frequenting this place consistently for over a month. Did I plan to revisit this place as much as i have? Absolutely not! The initial visit was pleasant, the bartender Beth was great and friendly, food was served quickly, my friend and I stayed much longer than we had expected. Food was really good, I ordered another pizza to go. The next visit I was greeted by almost everyone that worked there! I sat at the bar, a server would talk to another server but took a moment to just ask how i was, this stood out because at other Whiting restaurants that I have visited more than a handful of times I did not receive such attention. Fast forward a month, I still make it a point to go here. Sometimes I'm greeted by Juan as I walk in as he is at the host/hostess area. I usually see Beth at the bar, and then Cassie will stop by and say hello, other days Jackie, Natalie will make it a point to stop and say 'hey' and a newer person David, is just as pleasant as the others I mentioned. Normally I'm a person that really truly does not care to know what my server's name is, typically the server/bartender will tell me their name and I am not even listening and I'm just ready to order my drink. So for me to remember these individual's names, I feel is a testament to their genuine care for their customers. I didn't mention much of the food. I usually order the same thing, grilled chicken salad with whiskeys on the side. From time to time i order a pizza to go (usually I order the Taco Pizza, it's delicious). Ok... So a few things. I have always liked Beggars on Ridge Rd. In Whiting, their prices are pricy, especially for that area. I came here for a late lunch with my mom and little brother. The place was empty besides the booth next to ours. The wait for our pizza was quite long. But we kept ourselves entertained by the 3 flies that we had to kill that kept thumping into the window. Beyond gross...The service was horrible. The server left us tiny plates for our pizza. The pizza was yummy. We finished our pizza, and our server was MIA. Nothing special, adequate. This location in Whiting is NOISY. There is thin carpet on the floor and no other fabric in the place to soak up any sound. The absolute best gluten free pizza I have ever tasted. The crust had a corn texture and wonderful flavor. Most gluten free pizza crusts are dry but not at Beggars! The sauce and toppings were also delicious. Our group of more than 20 people all loved our meals! The service was superb! We used the party room which allowed plenty of room to mingle. Ever go to a restaurant with the hope that the service and food might have magically improved (even to the point of mediocrity)? Such has been our repeated experiences at Beggars as we like to patronize Whiting businesses whenever possible. However, we're done with Beggars. The principal issue is with the wait time we and friends have repeatedly encountered; we don't order deep dish pizza which would understandably involve somewhat of a delay. BUT, pasta? Simple salads? Sandwiches? I suspect this is a one-person kitchen who can manage only one small order at a time. Last night we waited fifty minutes (emphasis on "last" as in times we'll be coming here) for a simple order for a party of six. Last night's server (Jose?) was more attentive than others have been, but we could have used more offers to refill beverages. Like many other restaurants, this menu has highs and lows. The marinara sauce IS quite good; the salads contain lettuce that any self-respecting restaurant would not serve its patrons. We've had only the regular-crust pizza and liken the crust to something from the grocery freezer. Make no mistake: this is not an inexpensive night out with the family for pizza. I cannot imagine the secrets that other reviewers must have had to report good, timely service as well as quality food. You have to ask if they were genuine customers or have some type of relationship to the restaurant. The best feature of Beggars is its location in the heart of downtown Whiting, but that is no longer sufficient to put our friends/family through the experience. read more

I don't know what happened but they no longer "lay it on thick" and I'm guessing which half of the pizza is which. The prices are way to high too.
