We went here for lunch for my mother's birthday after the beach. The food came out in a timely manner and was all correct and delicious. Nice to see a new restaurant option in downtown Whiting. I went here on a business lunch yesterday (4/25/2013), and it was ok, nothing great. I had the Italian Beef (with giardiniera) and French Fries. The beef itself was quite tough/rubbery, and Au Jus (for dipping) was very greasy, with about a 1/2" layer of pure grease/fat floating on top. So much so, that when I dipped my sandwich in...it was just coated with grease/fat, which wasn't at all appetizing. I'm thinking that they probably just ladled the Au Jus out from the top of the container (where all the grease accumulates) instead of stirring it up first. All in all, I was rather disappointed with the sandwich. The service was great, as were the french fries. I'll probably go here again, but I won't be ordering the rubber bands...er, I mean the Italian beef. P.S. - I was on my lunch break...so no alcohol for me, but I did notice that have a few decent beers on the menu. Might pop in for an after-work drink someday., but will steer clear of the Ital Beef. Anytime I have gone to this Beggars it has been pretty disappointing. They sell pizza by the slice, but the slices have always been cold and not that great. It is also extremely overpriced. I always want to give it a chance because it is local and such a wonderful location. However, with poor food and service experience it makes it hard. MAYBE I'll give it another chance in the future and have a chance to change my review. For now... One star it is and I recommend one of the many other pizza places in the area. read more

March 12th, 2015. I called in a order at 7:24 p.m. I told girl about on line coupon. She had no idea and put guy on the phone (Ernesto) and he had no idea what I was talking about. So, I had to email him the coupon to his personal email. He said, if he couldn't take it he would call me back with price adjustment. So, I'm waiting and nothing. I call back at 9:30 p.m. to see where my order is. Jackie, who answered the phone, couldn't find my order. So, Ernesto got back on the phone and said no order was ever made. WHAT? Then why did he have to confirm my coupon? Crystal got on the phone and didn't know nothing. So, instead of offering any type of solution, he wants me to place order. It now 10 o'clock at night. Decided last minute to meet for a quick bite with a friend at Beggars. We were seated right away and was impressed as it was Friday night. It took a little while for our waitress to finally come around and take our drink order. Once we placed that, we immediately placed our order for appetizers as well. Upon bringing our drinks back, we decided we were ready to order our dinner as well. My friend asked for an individual slice of pizza and I ordered a chicken Caesar salad and we decided we would split it. It seriously took forever to receive our food once the order was placed. Patricia waited on a group of 15 of us who came in after a nearby grade school event, about evenly divided between kids and adults. We had no reservations. Patricia and the rest of the staff were very fast on service, very warm and personable, nothing short of top notch. On top of that, the tip was not automatically included on our bill, which has become standard at so many restaurants for groups. Which shows that when you have INCREDIBLE servers and staff -- you do not need to automatically add the tip -- because the customer will tip you generously because you earned way more than the standard 15% or even 20%. Done with ordering food from Beggars in Whiting. Ordered pizza bread with sausage. Was told it would be 30 minutes. Received call 20 minutes later wanting to know why I wasn't there. Picked food up and went back to office. I opened the box to see that only half of the pizza bread had cheese on it. The other half just sauce. What happened to the rest of the cheese and sausage? Our family has ordered from the Beggars in Whiting quite a few times. My husband really likes their stuffed pizza, but I prefer the thin crust. As for other menu items, I wasn't impressed with the chili, as it was on the watery side. Their lettuce doesn't seem "fresh". The pasta sides I've gotten with dinner entrees were watery also. The pizza gives me diarrhea, so I asked many other people if they get diarrhea from it and they also had experienced this diarrhea from Beggars Pizza. I had a Italian beef sandwich, which was quite good. I mean if had Italian beef sandwiches from all over and I have to rank Beggers quite high. It seemed to be very high quality. I asked my server Beth what kind of beer would she suggest to go with my meal. She suggested a local Goose Island Green line. Which was crisp, clean and hoppy. A perfect choice to cut through the Italian beef with hot peppers i ordered. My friend had a mini pizza. She remarked that people have always told her that Beggers had quality pizza. My family and I had lunch at Beggars in Whiting yesterday. We had there lunch buffet and what a joke that is. Cold Pizza and there desert was covered in salt. The staff there should sit down and eat the garbage that they are charging people for. Im sure they wouldnt like it either. When I explained to the manager that the desert was covered in salt, I had asked him if he could put another desert out on the buffet, he told me no. I ordered an order of curly fries that took me an hour to get. Owner, Manager and wait staff very rude and ignorant. Very unfriendly and horrible customer service. Some people are not cut out to make it in business, and the owner of this establishment is the worst. I would not recommend anyone to go there. I grew up on Beggars in Blue Island and its a shame that the Whiting establishment is so horrid. Never again will I waste my time or my money there. Just plain and simply AWFUL. read more

This is our second time going here as a group. First time our food took forever. We had a group of over 10 people when we tried to let them know we had a large group coming they said they didn't do large group reservations. We explained we were just letting them know so they would be prepared for the orders. Our food took forever to come some of our guest had to just take the food to go, since we had a group panned for another location. We were doing the same escape room and figured we would try one more time this time we called 3 times to forward them we would be coming. Again told we don't do group reservations which we stated we just wanted to let them know we would be coming for staffing. This time out food didn't take as long but our server was horrible. Her name was Beth she consistently calling the person who was paying by another name even after being told a few times that was not her name by giving her actual name. When one guest asked for an item to go she brought it out as if she didn't. When she told her again she wanted it to go Beth rolled her eyes and said ok. We ordered desert which there was 2 options either a cookie or the cookie with ice cream which was the sundae. After ordering 2 sundaes she asked if we wanted ice cream on that? When the sundaes came one of them had hair cooked into the cookie. It was sent back no replacement needed. Needless to say that was the last time we will bring our group there. Seated fast. Started off with appetizer we had cheesy garlic bread it wasn't that great I just taste like bread with slightly melted mozzarella on top barely any garlic and it's didn't seem fresh, then we ordered burgers to eat there and personal pizzas to go let me tell you the burgers are NOT FRESH! I can tell they are frozen burgers they have no flavor and are very very dry I damn near choked trying to eat my burger it looked good but it wasn't I ordered it well done and that it was plus more. My mans burger was suppose to be well done but it was medium it looked gross. Now the pizza was the worst pizza I had I ordered a spinach pizza with probably like two leaves of spinach on it my cheese was not laid on thick at all it was so bland this is the worst beggars pizza I have ever been to. If you decide to eat here hopefully your shit will be better then ares because the food last night was nasty nothing was good and I wouldn't go back and I wouldn't recommend anybody to go there and eat. I have spent literally thousands of dollars at Beggars since they have opened. This is a small town with not too many restaurants and I like to "shop local". Many times I have had issues with service but I have always gone back, been polite, and tipped well. Today was the final straw. It's my birthday and we decided to go for a pizza. My husband and kids ordered pizza while I ordered a grilled chicken salad. The pizza came out and the server said, 5 more minutes for your salad. My family proceeds to finish their dinner while I watch them and my salad still hasn't come out. She finally brings out my SALAD and everyone at my table is finished eating!! I say, "At this point, you might as well bring me a box". She's says, "I'll have it wrapped for you" and it's gone for 10 MINUTES!! She finally comes back with my boxed salad and the bill...no apologies. I pay and walk up to the bar to see if I can find the owner to express my concerns. There is a bartender or busboy (??) looks at me and doesn't say, how can I help you? He says "What's up?" So yeah. No dinner for me. We have been at other locations and this one is not consistent with the others. Their slogan is "We pile it on". We ordered a thin pizza, and it was twice as thick as the other locations. We had one piece of pepperoni on each slice along with a couple of sliced black olives. The service is poor, they brought our drinks one at a time, then my wife ordered soup and I ordered a salad. They brought out the soup and 4 minutes later I received my salad. And this happened on a Saturday at 3 o'clock in the afternoon, not their busy time of the day. read more
