We were looking for a late-night bar that was open after a wedding we attended, and someone suggested Kilroy's...they said it was like our favorite local bar in Chicago (Kasey's, on Dearborn). I found that hard to believe, but it absolutely was! A fun local crowd (knowledgeable of Tombstone quotes), and a great bartender (also knowledgeable of Tombstone quotes)....what more could we ask for? Throw in the slot machines in the back, for those that are so inclined, and it made for a perfect evening. Cheers to that!! read more

This is kind of a throw-back, get shit-faced neighborhood bar. We stopped in yesterday and experienced very good service. The beer selection was decent, and the menu was fairly extensive. We ordered the wings, which were kind of so so. They're weren't bad, but definitely not memorable. The place is mostly clean, but its a bar, so not a huge factor. But back to my first comment, it was Sunday afternoon and the place was filled with drunks. it was comical, but also gave us an uneasy feeling. Everyone was laughing and having a good time, but as you know a bar full of drunks is just one small slip up away from an all out brawl. This place is ok, but not really my ideal go-to bar. As much as I made fun of this place back in the day, and as much as I rolled my eyes when people said it was our Friday night destination, it's still the first place I visit when I go home. It's my Cheers. Who needs high school reunions when you've got Kilroy's.? It doesn't matter if you grew up in Lansing, Highland, East Chicago, The HGC, Hammond, etc., you walk in here, and I bet you $10 you'll see your senior year prom date. But you'll also see your jump rope partner from kindergarten, making it completely worthwhile. Plus the drinks are cheap, the bartenders are quick, and the jukebox is digital (but it never seems to play my songs, oh jukebox why do you hate 10cc??). And word on the street is they have guitar hero tournaments now, can't beat that. read more

As far as absolutely awful bars in the suburbs go, Kilroy's wins the trophy! I was there once, only due to convenience of geography, and would never go again. It is nothing but a hangout for washed up ex-jocks whose lives have gone nowhere, where the beer is served not-quite-cold and very overpriced. I was charge more than five dollars for a pint of Guinness. The atmosphere is lame and corporate. It seems like one of the crappy chain sports bars, but isn't actually one, which kind of makes it worse. The bar staff have some weird idea that they're actually working at a decent bar, and struck me as snooty. Its not my idea of a good time to overpay for warm beer to idiot staff surrounded by morons. read more

I'm aware that this place gets a bad rap for being that typical spot where people who can't get over the glory years of high school seem to congregate. That may be true to an extent, but I love this place. Maybe it's because one of my best friends lives a few blocks away, making Kilroy's convenient and walkable, but I always seem to find myself here when I'm visiting home. For starters, the beer is CHEAP and cold. Honestly, you can get a GIANT mug (~36 oz?) of Bud Light for $3--insane! I don't think I've ever paid over $4 for a beer here, and they always have a pretty good selection, including an assortment of craft brews from 3 Floyds. The cocktails are also super cheap, and the bartender there makes some of the most aggressive drinks this side of frat-tastic jungle juice. Said bartender is also super nice and friendly, which is always a plus. As for the food, I've never strayed away from the buffalo chicken sandwich. It's incredible. No, it's super mega delicious--the best buffalo chicken sandwich that I've had. I've also heard the burgers are good, but I've never tried one. BIg menu, really solid bar food. If you think you are too cool for Kilroy's, get over yourself and check it out. I can assure that you will find yourself having a good time. read more

I'm a regular guy... I have my routines like everyone. One of those is stopping into Kilroys for a fine grouper sandwich. It overlaps the bun and tastes great every time. The other menu items are very good but I drive out of my way for that grouper. I appreciate consistency in restaurants because it speaks to chefs who are on the ball and proud of the way they're doing business. The dining area at Kilroys is located adjacent to the bar area, but has been redecorated and provides a comfy dining experience replete with a side door entry to avoid walking through the bar. Kilroys is an anchor business in Lansing... and represents our little town nicely. Thanks to the staff and owner who make all that happen. read more

Absolute garbage service. Kilroys management, you need to read this. Ended up walking out. Had a $50 gift card for dining or drinks and it was refused. Ashley the manager told me to "use the front door" meaning we could leave. Here's what happened: My mom wanted to verify the balance on her gift card after we sat ourselves in the dining room. She walked to the front bar and asked the bartender to verify the balance on the green plastic Kilroys gift card (which we had the original sales receipt showing a sale for $50). The bartender informed her the computer system no longer accepted the cards since the establishment switched to a new computer system. Shocked to learn this, I walked back into the main bar and where I approached the manager who was sitting on a stool between the bar and dining room. I explained the situation to her and presented her with an open browser on my phone verifying the full amount for $50 as confirmed on tendercard.net. She rebutted with "a sign was posted in the window over a year ago letting customers know the gift cards were going to expire." I asked her if there was a way to convert the gift card into a new gift card and she said there was nothing she could do. I asked for the phone number for the owner and Ashley took the plastic gift card out of my hand, flipped it over and pointed to the bar phone number printed in the corner. She continued with "I'm not comfortable giving you the owners personal number," which I never asked for. I only wanted to speak with someone who actually has the power to fix this. I verbally stated very clearly to Ashley that I was disappointed and she was "not good at customer service, as her demeanor was hostile, nor was this situation being handled professionally." While still sitting in her stool, Ashley told both me and my mom that we could "use the front door" and leave. My mom was appalled, and I walked out. When my mom finally exited the building, she said Ashley was loudly sharing what had just happened with the patrons and staff at the bar. We came in for a meal and got one heck of a shock and terrible experience. I can not stress enough how disgusted I am with this visit, let alone having convinced a family member who has never been inside Kilroys to give it a try. Check the video footage for 2pm on Sunday, October 22. You'll see two life long Lansing residents walking inside and within minutes walking out. I have been going to this place since the early 80's. It is a friendly reasonable place in town and the food is extremely good for the area. They have very nice waitresses that have been there for many many years. Johnny the bartender is an awesome bartender and very friendly. We always sit in our favorite waitresses tables or booths, her name is Susie and she is a love. If you go there on a Friday or Saturday late afternoon or evening you may have a wait a little bit, but it's worth it, the prices are reasonable and the food is very good. Sometimes the music in the bar is a little TOO LOUD so you can't hear yourself talk, but it is after all a bar as well. I am in my mid-50's and enjoy going here and have for many years. In the summer during cruise nights every month they have all kinds of drink specials and great appetizers.... To the gentleman that had the bad experience with the "young blonde waitress" that is not the norm, give it another try. Of all the years I have been going there I have only had two occasions where we had slow service and it was when they were training a new waitress and the other time we thought the bus girl was the waitress and complained to the owner, but later we found out that because of the snow storm they were short handed and they were short. These things happen now and then, we love this place! read more

The first time you go here you may notice servers are a bit rude. Longer than average wait times to get your order as well. But once the food comes, its the most delicious food you have ever tried. Try the burgers! Or heck the Fish and Chips! (When they have it) Would be a perfect star rating but one time I ordered the larger burger but they gave me the half time burger. Which is $4.50 more, so obviously I expect to get the right size. Can't prove it unless I bring a scale with me. Perhaps next time! :) read more

The food is usually good. I like the rear, restaurant section of Kilroys. It's a dark, calming space. The food arrives hot at my table. They serve a selection of local and non-local microbrews. My only issue is that they serve the beer in room temperature pint glasses. It would be nice if they frosted the pint glasses. read more

I need to go to confession...I have lived in Lansing for 36 years, have driven past Kilroy's thousands and thousands of times and never gone in once...until today. My friend decided that I needed to take the plunge, so we had an early dinner after a theater matinee. We entered and sat in the restaurant section, so I cannot comment on the shenanigans going on in the bar section (although we sure could hear it!) I ordered the Blue burger, which is a hamburger, cooked to order generously topped with blue cheese, accompanied by the side of your choice and a delish pickle! The burger was juicy and delicious! Skip this dump!!!! I went here cause I got a gift card for xmas. Sat at a high table by the games and t.v's. And waited for 15 min for a server who never came. Walked up to the bar to ask for a server to goto our table, and then waited almost another 10 min. after that decided to just leave this dump. Don't go here. Place really died down. The daytime server should not be a server. She just has no personality. It was just me and my dad for lunch, I asked for chicken parm to go which they didn't have and she said they could make (and I'd pay extra of course), and that was very nice, but when I got home there was no chicken in it. I went back 10 minutes out of my way and told her about it. She fixed the problem right away, but when I asked for an extra piece for the inconvoence, she said it'll be an additional $3 or something. Used to always order burgers from Kilroys, but was very dissappointed recently. Called in and ordered 3 WELL DONE burgers and they came back medium. I understand people are not perfect, and mistakes are made all the time, so I had them take the burgers back. We are a family prone to food poisoning, so I did not want to take a chance with medium cooked meat. I wanted a refund so I could order food from somewhere else but then this old grumpy woman proceeded to say that they "did not want to waste 6 burgers on us". Totally rude. No one told them to make 3 more burgers after they didn't get the initial order correctly, so this comment was out of hand. However, I decided to give them another chance so I accepted the 3 new burgers. Guess what, they were also cooked MEDIUM. I called in to let them know I was upset about this because I had given them another chance to fix the situation. Long story short: NOTHING WAS DONE. A "manager" told me that they would speak to the owner about this issue and I have not received any call back at all. This was over a week ago. Never ever coming back again. My husband's family has been frequenting this restaurant for years. My husband even grew up with a lot of the people that work in that place... Customer loyalty clearly does not matter to the owner's of this establishment. Also I noticed that their burgers are not the same quality. The meat looks like it's been glued together. If I want a non quality burger I know plenty of places to get them, Kilroy's definitely was not that spot before. read more

Wow, i was very impressed not only by the food selection, but the bear menu at Kilroys. For whatever reason, i had never eaten there before, but friends and family were talking alot about the perch and blackened grouper and i had to try it myself. I was Very pleased with the grouper and i had a rubeus bottle of beer that was excellent. I plan to be a much more frequent visitor to Kilroys! read more

My experience at Kilroys was very decent other than one thing. The food was good, staff very courteous and fast, beer and liquor selection above average but there was one thing that I can never forget. This thing is the wiener gazer. One man followed me into the bathroom on two separate occasions and gazed long and hard at my wiener. It was an ok experience until I flipped a coaster (which wasn't aimed at anyone, nor did it hit anyone) and was asked to leave by the owner, then upon leaving after saying by to my friend the bouncer grabs me like an animal ushering out. Just as I opened the door the owner jumped on my back and took me down to the sidewalk! Wow! REALLY?????? I spent the next couple of days in the city hall speaking with officials about it and the video they requested magically disappeared! From that point on I kept my business at JJ Kelleys where the staff and owners are AMAZING and something like this has never happened to me in over 20 years that I have been going there! read more
