I would NEVER step foot in here ever again! On my very first visit, I was seated in the narrow room to the left where there was a row of booths on both sides in this long dining room. The male manager seated me and there I sat and sat and sat. Yes, the room was full with waitresses going back and forth, NOT one said hello, we'll be right with you, acknowledging that I was alive. After 10 minutes, I grabbed a male manager and said nobody is waiting on me. He gave me a cup of coffee and he went straight back into the kitchen and spoke with a cook about getting me a server. After waiting another 15 minutes, while waitresses were all around me, yet not one stopped to find out what I wanted to eat. After looking at their tired, dirty and late menu for far too many times. I got up and went up to pay for my lone cup of coffee. A male employee minding the desk, ran up to the register as if I was going to skip out on paying for the $3.50 cup of coffee. I told him I was sitting here for over 25 minutes and nobody bothered to wait on me. We're very busy! Try that excuse on someone else, that's bullshit! A well trained waitress would greet you properly and say something to you, not ignore you. I was dressed properly. What he should have done for my inconvenience was comp me the cup of coffee! Rain delay? Breakfast adventure. Our baseball tournament got delayed bright and early thanks to Mother Nature, so instead of sitting around waiting, we did what any reasonable group would do, we went looking for food. Of course, I pulled up Yelp (because Yelp never lets me down) and it led us right down the road to Sunrise Cafe. I'm actually mad at myself for forgetting to take pictures because everything looked so good that I skipped photographer mode and went straight into eating mode. There were seven of us, and we covered just about the whole menu, Denver omelets, French toast, over-easy and sunny-side-up eggs, chopped beef with eggs, and more. Not a single complaint at the table. Everything came out hot, fresh, and absolutely delicious. The staff was incredibly friendly, the atmosphere was welcoming, and it had that family-friendly hometown feel that makes you want to come back. Terrible first experience here. First of all, we waited to get seated bc there were still empty plates on two tables. They didn't have that many tables available to begin with. Once we got seated, we waited for about 10 minutes for someone to acknowledge us. I noticed how the people who came in way after us were already getting their order taken. And the same with another pair of people. I also notice how other people have their waters on the table too, yet nobody offered us water. The server came to ask if we wanted more chips and we said yes. She never came back with the chips lol. She came back with two plates of our food but we noticed there weren't forks on the table and they didn't give us any either until the last plate of food came out. It was spotty service. A wonderful meal for an affordable price! Me and my boyfriend walked here for brunch. We were handed some menus and told to sit wherever. The ambiance was quiet with some occasional chatter. The only thing i'd change was the service time. It seemed pretty slow however the server did take a bit to welcome us with drinks. Once he came over he was very on top of what we needed. I had ordered the steak skillet, and my boyfriend ordered the stuffed french toast. The steak skillet was delicious! The steak was tender and cooked perfectly. I ate here once since moving to the east side of Chicago and I was thoroughly disappointed. I never went back since and since I've been seeing posts about how this establishment has been dealing with a cockroach problem. A woman posted a picture on Facebook very recently of a cockroach in her soup. The servers are always very nice, the food is always quick and filling, but I recommend requesting a foil liner in any takeout container. Otherwise, the hot food melts the styrofoam, it then leaks everywhere, and the food tastes horrible afterwards. Everybody wanted coffee, BAM! Coffee was strong, hot and fresh. I love this place! On to the food. We are a party of 5 today. Mommy and DeeDee split a special with 2 bacon, 2 sausage and 2 eggs your way. Everything here is accompanied by hash browns and pancakes or French toast! Are you kidding me? Auntie Baby got a cheese and spinach omelette with bacon, grilled onions on the side. Yelp, it came with hash browns and she chose French toast. I love this place! Disappointed with several waitresses, some friends invited me to eat at the restaurant, we were a large group and when the person who was going to pay did not leave the tip they expected, they came to me, loudly bothering me in a very rude way, asking for the tip from me, I told him I didn't know they hadn't tipped enough. I would have gladly given the tip to the waitress, what disappointed me was the way they came talking loudly to me as if I had any fault. When my entire family, have been clients of theirs, for almost 7 years now, and they know that we are not like that. We always leave them a good tip. I have been going here pretty much every week for 11 years, so obviously I am satisfied with the food. Lately the service has been spotty. It really depends on who you get as your server. Some are very good, and others are just phoning it in. Part of the problem is that the owner seldom leaves the kitchen, and no one else is managing the floor. You would expect some service issues when they are busy, but service is actually better when they are busy. It is during slow times that the issues occur. The servers are slow in getting to the table to take the order, they don't follow up after bringing the order, and if you need anything you have to wait (and wait) until they reappear so you can flag them down. That's because servers spend a good deal of their time talking with family, friends, neighbors, etc. who happen to be eating there, or to each other in the kitchen. It is almost as if they think of taking care of customers as something they do in between visiting. The same goes for the people who bus the tables. You can walk in and see four or five tables unbussed, or clean tables without place settings or condiments replenished, or the floors covered with food and paper debris, while the busser is sitting and yacking with her friends. I am not an overly-demanding customer and I give a good tip for good service. Lately I have left no tip because I didn't feel that my server gave a damn that I was there. I am guessing that the owner doesn't give a damn either because he really has no competition in town and, as long as people keep coming in, that's what counts. Four stars for food. In Indiana for a free stay @ a casino so I decided to try this spot out. Found a street parking spot 3 doors down. Decent outside decor. Upon entering a lady asked for name & # in party & stated it would be about 10-15 minutes. The place was busy & a tad quiet. I realized later that they did have overhead music on but it was a tad too low. The host sat me & guest in booth. Nice ambiance. The server, Angelina, came over in 30 seconds upon sitting down. She took order and came back in a minute with drinks. Food came out less than 10 minutes. Boy was it good. I decided to try their beef patty which was tasty & juicy, potatoes were delish & not salty, eggs were good. Coffee was ok, no flavored creamer. Pancake was good too. Our server was on point, deserves a raise. The noise level was decent. They had several people in the kitchen but worked it out. They need someone to constantly sweep because people(adults & kids) drop food all the time. The waiting section upfront was very tight. The interior decor was outdated, needs to be updated. The overall place was very good & if I'm in the area I would be back. The tight waiting area, lack of overheard music volume, decor & coffee costed them a star. Otherwise a great spot. read more

Here is another family style restaurant in the southlands of Chicago bordering into Northwest Indiana. They have a wide range of food to choose from and prices are very reasonable (I paid under $10 for an omelette and coffee plus my choice of french toast, pancakes, or toast). Absolutely surprised at how good the food actually was. We had read a lot of the reviews and were a little suspicious. Wife said, let's go in and try it anyway. If it stinks when going inside, we will leave. Smelled like fresh baked heaven. A local said that we will be surprised how good it was after the owners wised up. We were promptly seated, asked what we wanted to drink, given cleaned and wiped down menus. Lots of items for lunch and breakfast (served all day). We were not that hungry so we ordered senior items. They came with drink and desert. Wife ordered the shrimp lunch which came with fries, plus soup or salad or fruit. The cream of broccoli was delicious. 17 pieces of popcorn shrimp and a mess of good fries. I ordered the senior Denver omelet thinking 1 or 2 eggs. Nope a full size 3 eggs! Great hashbrowns, a pancake the size of a plate. Way too much to eat so took some back. Waitress was young, friendly and on top of every customer. Cost? $7.49 each. We talked with some regulars.
