The post on Facebook of the Cockroach in the lemon rice soup.
William P.

I ate here once since moving to the east side of Chicago and I was thoroughly disappointed. I never went back since and since I've been seeing posts about how this establishment has been dealing with a cockroach problem. A woman posted a picture on Facebook very recently of a cockroach in her soup. During Christmas time 2 years ago my fiancé found a cockroach in the Christmas decorations the restaurant displayed.

Wonderful little spot. Went for breakfast, food was good and the OJ is fresh squeezed.

This was a great choice for breakfast for our group of 5! The offered lots of options, great prices and they give you a ton of food! On top of that the service was great and fast and the food was delicious! They are very much like a diner and serve breakfast all day but they offer plenty of other choices like soups and burgers! If you are near Whiting, I highly recommend Sunrise!

Melted container

The servers are always very nice, the food is always quick and filling, but I recommend requesting a foil liner in any takeout container. Otherwise, the hot food melts the styrofoam, it then leaks everywhere, and the food tastes horrible afterwards. Honestly, with the styrofoam containers and piping hot food, you would think a liner would be mandatory.

Bottom of my soup I found the cockroach

I'm truly horrified and Disgusted is an understatement. I found a roach at the bottom of my soup! I immediately threw out my daughters soup as well. I can't believe this just happened. I got a TOGO order. Was told 10-15 mins for pickup. I got there and it was empty only three tables occupied and I got this shit show of an order. The girl who took my order was rude- answered the phone like if she was answering her own phone. I've heard people talk about roaches in the food here and can't believe it happened. How is this place opened?!

Yelp, Sunrise, it's all in the name. This place can definitely get your spirits going and add joy to beginning your day! I'm NOT a morning person, but Lady A, I will call her this because I can't pronounce her name well, thank you for your wonderful service. This sweet lady served with a smile throughout our stay. Everybody wanted coffee, BAM! Coffee was strong, hot and fresh. I love this place! On to the food. We are a party of 5 today. Mommy and DeeDee split a special with 2 bacon, 2 sausage and 2 eggs your way. Everything here is accompanied by hash browns and pancakes or French toast! Are you kidding me? Auntie Baby got a cheese and spinach omelette with bacon, grilled onions on the side. Yelp, it came with hash browns and she chose French toast. I love this place! Bae had a Sunrise Omelette with French toast and you know, hash browns, everything breakfast are accompanied by them. Oh Yelp! I had the Melting pot skillet with pancakes! This stuff here is good! Y'all, know what, I couldn't even eat all this food! They give you so much good food! And, it's the HOLIDAYS! The environment is set for holiday happiness. I'm in Whiting for a birthday party. Otherwise, those who know me, already knows. I would be Back! Good food at a nice price! Love it!

Food is good, good service , and not a very long wait to be seated when line is out the door .

Greasy food, smoky/stuffy/dated atmosphere, old waitresses with attitudes. Sorry..there's just not much to like here.

Well, I came to Yelp and Frankie V's popped up. Crazy thing, we do our grocery shopping across the street from Frankie V's! So we had passed it many times. We were warmly greeted by the bartender Natalie. She was awesome! It was full at the bar, Sunday Night Football so totally understandable. We sat in the booth. The booth was comfy and cozy. It's a cool spot, total "Cheers" vibe. We had our mind on fish sandwiches but the unassuming owner, Martina came by and greeted us. Then she gave us the rundown on what was the best items. EVERYTHING here is homemade, made from scratch! Loved that! She sold us on the special, 8pc chicken (the whole chicken), fries and an XL 1-topping pizza for $39.00. Well we got it and boy that was THEE BEST fried chicken I have had in YEARS. I mean YEARS! Literally fresh and dripping hot juices everywhere! It was seasoned to perfection! So good! The pizza was INCREDIBLE! It was a great crust and the flavor was amazing! The fries were good! Home cut, I could tell! We delighted in our meal! We look forward to returning soon and trying the fish!

The decor is really cool with a lot of 1950s and 1960s style antiques. There's an old jukebox that they are in the process of getting repaired. There are tons of old pictures on the walls and vintage newspaper advertisements. It has two dining rooms and the decorating all sticks with that 1950s and 1960s themes. The booths are in perfect repair and if you like you stepped into the 1950s, even the tables are the old style 1950s tables. It's a very charming place! All of the food was cooked perfectly. The service was impeccable and they are very nice. It's not a fancy place like you were downtown Chicago. It's a cute place that is arguably the best on the strip of 119th Street in Whiting..... At least when you're talking about this sort of style. There's plenty of street parking but they also have parking behind the place. They pay a lot of attention to detail to make the place feel comfortable, even live plants. When you Walk in the door, you notice that the room is painted robin's egg blue. The place is just so cheery it will make you happy.

We shared the Center Lounge Feast which was over 25 pieces of various seafood & an appetizer of fried cheese pierogi. Most of their food comes with a free salad buffet & pieces of cake but it's just some tomatoes, cucumber, lettuce & box recipe cake. More for just if you are desperate for your daily vege intake. The fried cheese perogies were excellent. Went very well with the sour cream. It's not the best seafood I've had but I did like it. It's plenty of food for 2. Maybe just stick with fried scallops & coconut shrimp. Frog legs were too dry. Fried fish was ok. But most definitely get a lot of the different perogies. The sides of mashed potatoes was good & mac & cheese okay. Good place to sit, have some beers & enjoy delicious perogies .

It's been over an hour and I'm now waiting in the car on a not so busy Tuesday night, for my husband to wait for our food, still...... it was pierogi, a sandwich and coleslaw. Not even a well done porterhouse takes this long . Not only that, the staff did not apologize, did not offer something for waiting an hour (not since our arrival, but since we ordered food). Don't come here in a hurry. We won't be back . A nice tip, pierogi shouldn't take an hour or look like they been swimming in a deep fryer that hasn't been cleaned for a month. Also put your fried foods in paper bags instead of styrofoam wrapped in cellophane to keep the oil spill from leaking out ! It Keeps things crisp, costs less, and is better for the environment.
