I called and they kept disconnecting me. So I went in to place an order for takeout. The gentleman said we cannot do carryout. I said what's the difference between putting it on a plate or a carryout box. He said sorry we're not gonna do that. Every time I go there, I leave a good tip. Good Morning! first I want to say how great the food is at this place and it's is very tasty, always hot, and super fast, but an unpleasant experience upon arriving. I was trying to categorize my experience,I just felt unwelcomed the moment I arrived, the cashier, busboy immediate asks can I help you, I thought odd, however today I was an Afro American arriving at the restaurant with nothing but Caucasian's or a melting pot of folks seated, just none looked like me, he then says, you taking out, or dining in? I looked at him and said you don't remember me, having been there often enough, very mean faced NO while walking off. The waitress says to me, I remember you, how was that French vanilla in your coffee last time, the statement made me feel at ease. I'm writing this because I felt shunned like what are you doing in here, well you don't sell gasoline, just an hungry business guy trying to grab an early meal before this long day gets started. I could be barking up the wrong tree with this, but settle racism is what it felt like. I'm sure this young man doesn't represent the whole establishment, but the message was understood by me. Good service. Issue is with both the food and prices. $26 bucks for a half inch "ribeye" steak and 2 eggs. Steak was inedible. Most left on plate. Frankly I think it was a New York strip gone awry. I get inflation and all that but 26 bucks is gouging. You can get a better steak at Giovannis for about the same price. On top of that you pay the credit card fee. I use to love this place but not anymore. If you cannot deliver a decent product then take it off the menu. There is no dignity in being cheap Sad.... read more

The place is clean and well decorated but the color of the walls is a pea soup green if you ever saw The Exorcist it reminds me of watching the movie all over again. The food was pretty bland looks like it's geared to people 70 and up I don't think I'll be back. read more

Love the cook here because he cooks with real eggs not the powdered. He adds flavor to the rice and I love the crab cakes here. My neighbor likes the breakfast burrito. It's a cozy little place go in and you will be surrounded by happy people. The undertone music will make you sing to your food. I love the experience here. The waitresses will be your long lost friends. They keep your coffee flowing. I like the soups ( chicken noodle or chicken rice) and order when possible but my next choice will be the salmon for lunch if I can stop wanting the crab cakes. read more

Pretty decent breakfast....kind of an old school diner, with pleasant servers and coffee always available. The restaurant is always clean and typically always has at least one seat available. The menu is fairly extensive, where you can get breakfast or lunch at anytime. I've always enjoyed my meal here... nothing outstanding or differentiating about the menu. I've been here a few times over the last number of years and have never gone away hungry or unhappy. The staff is very friendly, the portions are satisfying, and its overall a great place to have a meal. Recently I went here on a Sunday morning with friends...yes it was crowded but we got seated rather fast. Two friends and I have been eating breakfast here every Saturday for the last 10 years. As of last Saturday, they will not allow the first to arrive to be seated until the others arrive, usually within five minutes. Granted this is a small restaurant, but it is rarely so busy that the early arriving friend is denying seating for other patrons. read more

Service at Riviera is top notch. Our waitress was very attentive and helpful throughout our entire meal. I ordered two eggs over easy, bacon, and hash browns. The eggs seemed a little over-cooked, which wasn't an issue, but still not as good as I expected. I found the hash browns to be sub-par, but the bacon and side of pancakes were both delicious. Riviera is a nice little place to stop by if you're in town, but not at the top of my list. I will make sure to try their lunch options in the future. read more

My son picked this place for breakfast and he did a great job. The food was great, portions were huge and the service here is excellent. We showed up around 9:30 and the place was packed. Grabbed the last table. We got coffee and my cup was filled before I took my coat off. Food came out quick. My cup was refilled with coffee right on time. Wonderful little place to grab a delicious breakfast (and perhaps lunch if you're inclined). I live in California and was out here visiting relatives, and lamenting that there is no good "biscuits and gravy" out in my area. The biscuits and gravy here are phenomenal. Biscuits light as air, and the gravy is thick and flavorful and filled with lots of good sausage. I amused myself by getting poached eggs to go along with the biscuits and gravy - keepin' it healthy, after all. ;) Friendly service and all the food I saw looked great. I refuse to eat here. We were planning on eating here but also had business at the neighboring UPS store before we able to unload our car we were ambushed by a gentleman who I would assume was the owner of the riviera restaurant telling us we couldn't park there. Mind you I was with my husband and was more than willing go in and wait for me inside the restaurant while I did my business next door. This gentleman acted like he didn't believe us. We were given a gift certificate for Christmas and since this gentleman was so unapologetic, rude, and ignorant we wanted to be reimbursed for a gift certificate that we will no longer use and had an obvious beef with his new neighbors. I came in on a Sunday at 11am.  The place is small and unassuming.  There is a small lunch counter with 4 spots that I sat at.  There were also 8 booths and a few tables.  The bathroom was a single one one out deal which was clean and pleasant. They had 4-5 waitress on with a couple of people in the kitchen.  The owner Josie was apparently in Mexico but her staff was caring the load admirably.  Everyone was wearing bears garb as well do that made me feel right at home.  The staff was friendly as well as efficient and engaging.  I sat at the counter and had great service but also saw them hustling to take care of the rush.  This is key to see, a place can only be as good as its staff. I ordered a"haystack" which is a full order of biscuits and gravy over hash browns with two eggs in top.  This was cooked to order which is always a good sign.  The biscuit were fresh and fluffy.  The gravy was a nice light grey with pieces sausage in it. The eggs over easy were a bit over done.  The hash browns were a perfect base to sop up all the left over oozings. Overall I would say that this place is worth veering off the road if a couple of miles if you are driving through the area.  I will come back. read more

Went there for breakfast on a weekday morning with my son. I got the farmer's skillet and everything was fresh, tasty and very well prepared. My rye toast was perfect and the coffee was nice and fresh. The waitress was very polite and attentive. When I told her that I like my hashbrowns crunchy, she recommended the deep fried option that I took and it was amazing. Huge servings, excellent service, good quality food and an opportunity to support the local economy. You can't go wrong. read more

My family and I often enjoyed this establishment, especially on Sundays after church. The servers are always more than friendly and accommodating, and today was no exception for my mother, sister, and my grandchildren. However, today was a whole different experience. As always, the servers were kind, but the owner was the most awful, evil, excuse for a businessman ever to be witnessed!! This person yelled at my granddaughter for trying to smell the fake flower in a vase on the table, and admonished my mother because my 18 month old grandchild dropped a butter (packet) on the floor. I've never written a bad review before, I realize that sometimes people have an off day, however this was entirely unacceptable, and if he's awful like this to my family, there is no reason to believe he won't be this way to yours as well. You want breakfast, this is an excellent little place to hit early, get that food, fast service, really tasty, and then head out. I love the way they do their potatoes, like dad did when I was young, brown on the outside, moist on the inside. Pancakes are really good, the coffee is just strong enough for me, and the service is very friendly. I like what I call HBF (Hot Brown Food) places, and this serves it up really well. This is your basic Hot Brown Food restaurant, and a darn good one. Good Eggs Benedict with a terrific, lemony hollandaise (marred somewhat by Canadian bacon with one of the most unchewable skins I've ever encountered.) nice cottage fries that are moist on the inside and crisp on the outside and not at all greasy, and some very tasty pancakes. The service is also very friendly and very efficient. Hot Brown Food places are rarely exciting, but they're the most basic unit of unfast food there is, and this one is a good one. This is my favorite breakfast place in Munster. The food is always good, and so is the service. I happened to be there with the lady who had the screaming kid, and wrote a complaint. I knew that she would be on here complaining. People like her always complain the most! Her kid screamed the entire time from the time they walked in until the time they were finally asked to leave! Her other kid was also running around the restaurant, kicking the bathroom door, and trying to open it while people were inside! One of the owners Steve was very nice in handling the situation. Nicer than I would have been! I only wish that the other owner Garrard was there today. Because they would have been asked to leave before ever placing their order! He doesn't put up with any problems! That's one of the reasons why my family and I go there several times a week! Most of us cheered when these people were finally asked to leave! I even tipped her waitress $20.00 extra for having to put up with this group! Since they stiffed her! I pity the poor restaurant that gets this group next! It seems like the parents just let their children do whatever they want to! My sister and I would have suffered severe consequences if we acted even a little like these kids when we were younger! Went there last Sunday for morning breakfast around 10. Potato pancakes were under cooked but the eggs and bacon were good, coffee wasn't anything special. The issue my wife and I had was that we both felt rushed. It is a small place so I understand getting food out fast to seat more customers but there was not a line, in fact their were more open tables than full. I enjoy not waiting to long for my food but right when we sat down the waitress was already looking to take our order so we asked for a few more mins. She came back and we ordered then 10 mins later or food was at the table (This should of been a red flag about the pancakes). 5 mins into eating the check had arrived and the waitress was trying to take plates half filled with food. She was not rude or anything like that, it just seemed she was in a hurry. Might sound like I'm being picky but I like to sit and enjoy my meal and talk while I eat. May give them another try in the future but right now I'm still looking for my Sunday breakfast place. read more

This restaurant should not call its self a "family restaurant" if that is not in fact the case. If you have small children, or anyone who is special needs in your party then look at one of the other breakfast options that Munster has to offer. Today while dining with our 3 children, our youngest one year old, who also has some special needs started screeching, which he does unpredictably from time to time. We did our best to make him happy and rectify the situation while trying to quickly finish our meal, as the people all around assured us that we were not disturbing them. At this time one of the waiters said "if he's going to keep doing that then you need to take him out of here so that other people can enjoy their meals without having to deal with that" only after giving us our $60 bill for two adult entrees and two kid entrees. In complete disbelief I asked to speak the manager, which he claimed to be, and then I asked to speak to the owner, to which he also claimed to be part owner. If that is in fact true, perhaps you shouldn't own a family restaurant where families include young children, some who may cry time to time. I must add that my child was not behaving this way the entire time, only sporadically, otherwise we ourselves would have left as we would not have been able to eat our overpriced meals. I would however like to thank the woman who was sitting at a near table who overheard this exchange and was clearly as offended as I was who told us that we weren't bothering her family and to sit down and finish eating. You helped confirm that what was being said was ignorant,, offensive and inappropriate as all eyes were on us as we were being ridiculed. But if you have someone in your group that may start crying for any reason and don't feel like being discriminated against, don't eat here as this is not in fact a place for families, but a greasy spoon for older, retired people who do not have children in tow. I also don't think the owners understand the power of social media these days and the influence that one customer might have on future customers.. If you scroll through past reviews you can see that the owner also publicly ridicules anyone who calls out his antics or rightly posts their honest, negative remarks. I wish I had seen this before our encounter today. It now makes sense why other breakfast restaurants in Munster which are twice as big had 1 hour waits, and this placd was a walk-in. If this is your way of doing business, you aren't cut out for business. My reccomedation is to give your money to other worthy businesses in the area with kind and compassionate owners, even if you have to wait longer to be seated. read more
