Holy moly -- so much food! We visited Toast & Jam on a Saturday morning and were seated right away. I started with the Birthday Cake Latte (made sugar-free), and it was huge, delicious, and perfectly balanced. I ordered the Southwest Skillet next, which was another generous portion -- I was full after just a third of it and had plenty to take home. The jam selection for the toast was amazing. They offered carrot cake, piña colada, and mixed berry. I'm not usually a carrot cake or piña colada person, but I was impressed by the creativity. The mixed berry was my favorite! Went this morning after not going there for a while and holy has this place gone down hill ordered lattes before ordering our food and the lattes "were not up to par" so they had to remake them before they even brought them to us ordered the rumchata french toast and it was warm not hot they gave me two butts of the bread that were all crust the hash browns were obviously just reheated cause they were warm on the outside and cold in the center. Half way through eating our food they finally brought out the lattes were just okay not anything to write home about but honestly sad to see a once great little breakfast spot go down hill its gotten slowly worse ever time I've gone and this was the last straw. I've been coming here since once they opened. Such a cute place. Lots of seating & they get super busy for breakfast. Very big menu. I usually get the California toast which is on an English muffin. Avocado, pico & poached egg. The waitress asked if I was ok with poached eggs, I said yes. Although I'm not sure why she asked. Then it came out with fried eggs. And my potatoes were undercooked. It's been hit or miss my last few visits. Chilaquiles aren't great compared to the Mexican places I have visited before. French toast looked amazing. That's what I'll get next time. read more

Extremely reliable breakfast option in NWI! We have been here on a few occasions and it is consistently filling, delicious, fresh, and with friendly service. They really try to move you into the restaurant quickly, but be warned anytime after 10am on a weekend you are probably going to be waiting for a little while! We have gotten omelettes, pancakes, specialty breakfast dishes, and we have zero things to complain about. You always ate either very full or going home with some leftovers which feels like a great value. I ordered "the farmhouse" and got the gravy on the side (recommended by our lovely waitress). The portion size was HUGE. Everything was so good! PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU EAT HERE!!! If I could get this place NO STARS it would be selected. Toast and jams is right here in my neighborhood been living here for 13 years. My girlfriend and I went for breakfast before I left for my fall semester in Muncie, Indiana. We order two glasses of water with lemon, mimosa and two breakfast meals. The Water comes to the table and the mimosa drink for my girl. I'm enjoying the company of my girlfriend, and she took a couple of sips of her mimosa and said this is really good. As I was talking about the classes, I'm going to take for the fall. My girl goes and drink some of her water and it was at that time she noticed between the ice was a fly in her water. We call the waitress over to see the fly in the ice water and it was like oh OK I'm sorry. After that, my girlfriend decided she didn't want to get food from here. Now keep in mind. The only thing that came to the table was the water and the mimosa. The waitress said here's your bill and it was for $47.23. I explained to her that I'm not paying for food that never came to the table and if anything we should not be paying for anything due to the fact that you are serving flies in your water with lemon. The manager came to the table and said you guys have to pay the bill and or I'm going to call the police and we said for what we are the one that's being served a fly in our water. We tried to pay for just what we had the mimosa but they would not accept anything but the $47.23 bill. We continue to explain to them. Why are we paying for food that never came to the table, but we are willing to pay for the drink, even though it should've then removed from the bill. So this back-and-forth about the bill went on for minutes, so my girlfriend and I decided to just leave. So we got in the car and decided that we would just go to Sophie's over by the mall which we heard had very good food. Before we could get out of the parking lot FOUR Schererville police pulled up and surrounded our car and demanded us to get out, of course us being African-American and not trying to be on the news and losing our life over a fly in the water we got out of the car they asked for our ID I gave them my drivers license and my insurance card, registration for my vehicle. My girlfriend was asked for her drivers license. She gave it to them and we explain the above situation. They proceeded to disrespect us and say you're gonna pay the bill if you don't, we will take you to jail. We explained to them we have no problem paying for what we had but the food never came to the table and why are we paying for something we never received. The officers refused to hear that they were very rude and disrespect disrespectful. We were calm and respectful to them, but they refuse to hear anything they made us returned to Toast & Jam and I had to pay $47.23 for a mimosa that she took two sips out of and a fly in our ice water with lemon. Then the officer asked my girlfriend for her phone number. She said why do you need this? He said because I said so my girlfriend said you don't need my phone number you have my drivers license. He then returned her drivers license and told us to get the HELL OUT of here and don't never bring your BLACK ASS back here anymore. She said " WOW REALLY " Now my girlfriend works two jobs and I work a full-time job and I attend Ball State University a major in architect and a minor of business. Not to mention, I live less than a mile away from Toast & Jam and have never been there before, but my girlfriend wanted to go. So to end this review, I feel that as an African-American young male well dressed well groomed was a victim of racial profiling, and feel that we as African-Americans should not give them our business. You can find other breakfast restaurants, besides TOAST & JAM. Besides being treated in the manner that we were treated and we did not let that stop us from having breakfast together. We did have breakfast at Sophie's and the service was great and the food was also good. We were treated with respect and the service was excellent! When I'm home for the fall break, me and my girlfriend will be going to Sophie's again for Sunday brunch. I hate with all the confusion. We were not able to get a picture of the fly in the ice water with lemon. But I'm happy to report that I was able to contact my bank and explain the situation and the charges was reversed I thank God that my mom taught me that God is in control and he will always make things right. I didn't want to do this review but I feel it was necessary for people to know that I felt that they were prejudice and racist to think that we were there trying to get a free meal when we only wanted to have breakfast before I head back for my third year at Ball State University. read more

My family hosted a baby shower at "The Estate Room at Toast and Jam." From the moment I walked in I knew the celebration I was planning was in the perfect place. Helen greeted me and was so easy to talk to along with giving knowledge of every detail that would take place. Any emails I sent with a question was answered promptly. Helen was always on task making sure every request and detail was taken care of before the day arrived. The evening before the shower we went in to observe everything and it looked like a room out of a magazine, with every detail handled. We were greeted by Helen and Dana who helped coordinate to make sure it was what we wanted. The cordial, kind and social aspect of them shows pride in what they do. We were informed what to expect the next day along with giving the names of the servers for the event. The day of the event we were again greeted by Helen, Dana, along with our servers Lindsy and Amber. The food was complimented by every guest along with the service given by Lindsy and Amber. I had nothing to worry about because everything was handled to perfection with Lindsy and Amber. Every guest was taken care of with Respect, Integrity, and Promptness. The Guests of Honor were in Awe of everything in that room. I cannot compliment Helen, Dana, Lindsy and Amber for the care, kindness and pride they take in what they do. Each showed how much they enjoy and love what they do and what a great place to be. The remarkable attention given to your event is heartfelt with gratitude. Day 4 of my week long stay visiting friends and family in NWI and so far I've had breakfast here every day. The food is very good. Each day I've been tempted to reorder the same meal as the day before but so far l've I'm resisted that and tried something different each day. Except for the coffee. On my first day I ordered a cappuccino and it was so good I've had it every day. But all of the coffees and espressos on the menu are tempting. The service has been great. The room in which we were seated was rather noisy and it was difficult to talk to the person sitting across from me. The waitress brought us water and a cola for the person with me. But, then we waited much too long to have our orders taken. The person with me ordered the Cubana sandwich and I ordered the TJ, BLT. with the sandwiches we each had a bowl of lemon rice soup. The soup was good but way too salty. My sandwich was also awfully salad. I removed the bacon from the sandwich and it was still inexcusably salty. Came here on a day we went to I Dig Dinos. There was a 45 minute wait on a Sunday. It was actually a pleasant wait experience even in the rain. The food is fairly priced and portion sizes are large BUT I specifically asked if the corned beef was made in-house and not from a can or bag and guess what I received?!? A corned beef skillet with corned beef from a can. Whomp whomp. $13.99 for canned corned beef, ain't it. The veggie skillet was really good, full of fresh veggies. What a great little place nestled in a country like setting in Schereville, IN. Outdoor seating and ample seating inside. Very clean, great space between tables. Noise level average to quiet. Music not too loud. Our waitress, Brianna, was truly both professional & friendly lending to the charm of the place. She made us feel at home and comfortable. (5 stars to her too) Our food came quickly, hot and delicious. Many choices and daily specials as well. So much food we each took to go bags. They have a full barista and serve mimosas and bloody Mary's. The place is pretty large, but I'm a random Monday morning it was pretty dead. My Bloody Mary was loaded and quite good. We split the banana crumble French toast and crabby Benedict. The bananas were lighted roasted and the banana bread was moist. The hollandaise sauce in the Benedict was thick and rich.
