I Love Finnegans! The music, the atmosphere and the people. It's like family every time we go. The live music is the best!

The service has definitely gone down a lot over the past few months. It's gotten very slow and I feel like the bartenders have gotten unfriendly as well. Idk if something internal is going down but something is definitely reflecting in everyone's tone and the business' atmosphere. I've only been to this establishment thrice when I've come to visit family in town and I was not very impressed. Service is a bit slow and most of the bartenders have an attitude problem that needs to stay home when they go to work. I came here to unwind and I have learned too much personal stuff about a bartender that I didn't need to know. There was also a bar fight recently that has deterred me from wanting to return here. There was physical fighting, screaming, and pepper spray in the air. It's always a lot of drama. I do enjoy the music though, thats always nice. read more

One of my neighbors always comes up here on the weekends and has brought me with a couple of times. This is not an environment I would normally come to, and the only reason I enjoyed myself was the live music. When they removed smoking from the building, I was very happy, but I noticed a lot of people quit coming. The bartenders are not attentive enough or they talk too much and ignore the other patrons in the facility for longer than one should as a person who works with the public. One of the bartenders does nothing but eat her entire shift. I understand that we all need to feed ourselves, but I personally think this is very rude and unprofessional. Will not be returning. It's also very disappointing to see the owner of the bar sending in her grandchildren to leave reviews. That screams desperate. Please make the necessary changes to bring this back to where it was 15 years ago. read more

The best part of this bar is their efforts to entertain. Live bands and karaoke. Prices are super reasonable. Bartenders are friendly, attentive and very fast! Not to mention the regulars are so welcoming. The atmosphere immediately makes you feel like home. Touchtunes, pull tabs, scratch offs, darts, pinball, and pool available. Very clean on the inside. Its a smoking bar but it is not overwhelming at all, and everyone is considerate about it. Well ventilated. The decor is so fun. Make sure you try a Finn Shot while you're here! I like Finnegan's... it's small and there's not a lot of bar room but, it's comfortable. Here's the skinny: Smoke... you can do it. Friday is Karaoke night. There's live music on occasion. Beer and Drinks are fairly cheap. This is my "Dip Out" spot to get away. Here's the fat: You can still smoke in here, it's Indiana... F your health, F your lungs, Go Nicotine and Cancer Sticks! Seriously though, it doesn't get too too smokey in here, I've been here a few times and they've had the back door open to help that out. How nice of them. Friday is Karaoke... I've gotten pretty tipsy and embarrassed myself, I'll admit that. Good thing that was when I had longer hair and was a lot fatter... no one will recognize me now... I lie, this was two months ago... I've seen the live bands here, Finnegan's brings in some pretty decent local bands and the band DOES put on a good show. I just wish they didn't look so cramped together on the tiny stage area. Beer and Drinks flow freely and the pricing is A-OK. My highest tab here was a VERY shaky, spinney and wiggly $40.00. NO, I didn't drive home... I called for a ride. Which is what you SHOULD do after several Gin and Tonic's with beers to match. I like this spot because I can do the dip... as in my friends don't come here(often). Some days when I just want to relax alone at a bar, watch whatever is on their TV, this is my spot. Bartenders are really friendly and the patrons are all pretty chill too. This is one of my favorite watering holes. I love that the atmosphere is always fun you can catch the Chicago Cubs on the television, the jukebox is always rocking and they have an excellent selection of micro brew. Oh I didn't talk about the people yet. The people that frequent this bar are like a community. This community is always welcoming when I'm there and fun to be a part of. Today I was here to help support a friend who every year participates in the same Balderick's day head shaving for children's cancer. The only reason I am not giving this five stars is each year, particularly for this event the bar is crowded. But then again this is the day you would wanted to be crowded because more people equals more money for children's cancer. read more

When I lived in Dyer, I could have put a second bedroom in this place. Through my college years I came here almost every day. It seemed Steve Munoz and Scott Larson were always in there. Pott's sitting at the bar watching the game, Roger standing by the cooler watching over the crowd. FOOD: They served up some wicked Doreen's pizza for about 5 bucks. DRINK: Great beers on tap and about 95 bottle selections. Joined the 100 club, but only got in the 50's. At lest I got my half way T shirt. ATMOSPHERE: I love the crowd in this place. Just locals having a blast. My band the Shatners plays every now and then with extreme enthusiasm to an awesome crowd. When this place is packed its fun and when its empty its fun! The bands are almost always good, Karoke Fridays rule. Hometown bar and nobody will judge you when you walk in. I miss living in Dyer because of this place. I have a great time going back on the weekends and all my old buddies are still in there. read more

Very cool little bar here. Had a great time one night after that Rhino place down the street completely dissapointed us by blasting rap music during an NFL Playoff game. I forget the name of the band that played that night at finnegan's but they were pretty cool . A lot of variety and great sound. Drinks were good , beer was cold , people were friendly . Visited with friends last night and one member of our group left her purse. She woke up to a Facebook message from Melanie the bartender saying they had it. Melanie took the time to search for her by her ID and figured out it was her profile. Best of all, our friend was leaving for Europe in the morning and had $500 in Euros in her purse. It was all there, untouched by anyone! Tells me a lot about the strong ethics of the owners and the people they hire. I'll patronize them for that alone. Aside from that, a really solid craft beer selection on draft , but check the bottle cooler for even more craft beer choices. (I'd give them a "5" but they still allow smoking - one of the last local bars that does. Come on guys....) read more

TIP: Don't go here if you're not a regular and want legit Irish food or drinks! My boyfriend took me here because he knows I enjoy Irish food/drinks and the sign said it was an Irish pub. Not true at all! When we came in (around 6 on a Friday), the place was not too crowded. We saw others sitting at a table eating, so we thought a waitress would come around. After around 5-10 minutes, we figured that wasn't going to happen. He approached the bar and got a Guinness (no problem). I ordered a Harp. They didn't have it. Then I ordered a Jameson and Ginger. They didn't have ginger ale. Come on, you say you're Irish and don't go beyond Guinness? We figured that it was the kind of place only regulars got good service in, which was disappointing, because I love Irish food. Oh well. read more

I go here every now and then. Great place and excellent beer selection. Always have several Three Floyds beers on tap. Other craft beer tap selections too. Also a cooler of 12 oz bottled beers and Bomber bottles. No food but you can order a pizza to bring in just a few doors down. This isn't what I would call an "Irish Pub" but it's a great bar with good people. So, the down side for me and why I don't come here more often, the smoking. As other reviews have pointed out, they smoke here and you and your clothes smell like smoke when you leave here. Too bad, otherwise this place would get a 5 star from me. read more

If you aren't a regular you're lucky to get a beer, but the beer is very good so it's worth a gamble. The music is loud and good. The smoke is God awful! If this place was in Illinois it would do 10x the business and that is the downfall of bars (without food) near the state line. Because I live close by Finnegan's, I will go in here every now and then. The staff is always cool. There is usually a good drink special. I always bump into people I know here. One thing I hate about this place is some of the people who come in here looking for trouble. I think of three occasions where I didn't instigate anything and found myself in a bad situation. Oh one more thing, this place is way too small. I never know if I'm going to walk out of this place happy or angry. Because of that I only give 3 stars. read more
