I've been wanting to stop in this place in the old village of Brunswick for some time. Yelp…read morereports this as closed, but it's open and the hours on this page are accurate. I finally made it here last night. Brunswick is an old German settlement that was founded in the mid 1800's. It's about two miles west of Cedar Lake/US 41, along 133rd/135th Avenue. The tavern sits at the southeast corner of 135th and Calumet Avenue. You can tell that the building is very old, but kept in very nice condition. We arrived around 6:30 PM, came in through the back door and settled up to the old bar. The owners were watching TV at the bar, waiting to serve those who came in. The menu is very simple: a good selection of domestic bottles (Miller, Bud, Coors, etc.) and a few imports (Grolsch, Warsteiner). The owners were very nice and we talked about the history of the tavern and Brunswick. According to the owner, this has been a continually-operated tavern since 1856, when it served as a stop for stagecoach travel. The tavern was very clean and had a lot of neat, old swag including a vintage Old Style light fixture. Beers were reasonably priced. It doesn't appear they serve anything but bottled/canned beer and lemonade, but definitely worth the stop for a cold beer. I'll be back next time I'm in the area!

Sit-N-Bull is located in the town's "business" district, which is a pretty funny description of this. Basically it has a storage facility and some empty lots. The bar is located along a cool wooden sidewalk close to another bar that never seems to be open. Basic looking kind of small town bar. It may seem kind of rough, but the bartender the last time was friendly. The bar is bigger than it looks. Has a few tables and games. They're known in town for slots. Got a whiskey and Coke. It's about $5 for a mixed drink. The food isn't anything special. Has potato chips. Maybe they have more but they didn't seem to. Plenty of TVs to watch games. There's also enough room for live music. Has to be one of the few decent places to hang out around here. It fits in with the community for sure. This is a good place if you don't care about fancy things.

We started off with the chicken wings with the heinie sauce which is a mild buffalo but we wished it was wetter if that makes sense. We also got the cevap appetizer and it was a little greasy but oh so good! For entrees we did a medium pepperoni with onion and green pepper (they don't put many veggies in it though...I'd skip and not pay $5 extra ) and then we did a Greek salad with grilled chicken - which had a lot of stuff in it but not enough lettuce (and the bowl choice for serving this was not ideal for mixing). The drinks were pricey for a wells vodka sprite and a little weak but they did the trick. We'd be back potentially...

The bar stools we were told were recently changed-the old ones were worse- and they can use another improvement. They are still too short for the bar if you eat there. Your elbows are up to your shoulders when eating, do yourself a favor and go to a table. Other than that, the inside was nice and the music was good. The sign is off to the side so keep going past the Subway and you will find it. There was also the dreaded liquor meter. Some nights I think there is a cover. We ordered the catfish and chicken wing basket that came with fries. The fries were good and crispy. The chicken was good and was seasoned. I was not a fan of the coating but it was okay. The fish I did not get into much as the coating was not for me. They did offer sauces on the side or on the food and that was good. My friend had the garlic parmesan which he liked, i had the buffalo hot sauce.
