Very casual place along the main road in Orange Beach. From outside it gives slightly upscale but inside it's totally casual. Since it had rained off and on all day, we opted to eat inside. Service was a 6 on a scale of 10. Our server was "interesting". He didn't share the specials but luckily they were taped to the hostess stand. When we asked about things he would say glad you asked or you're so smart. I felt he was being sarcastic but other than that he was fine. All the staff we encountered were nice. Mom and I ordered the fried shrimp. I love shrimp so it was a no brainer for me. He sold my mom on it since they have the best fried shrimp in the gulf (that's actually on the wall too). My sister got the grouper special. Food came out quickly. We loved our food. Coleslaw was good and you got a good portion size. My sister said her grouper was seasoned well and fried perfectly. While I did enjoy my shrimp I would have devoured them if I had more cocktail sauce. You make your own at the table, which was fun but it just wasn't enough. I made two and it still wasn't the amount I like. Overall, good experience and food was good too. read more

I'd give them a 3.5 if I could. We started with the gumbo. The roux was thin. We both agreed the gumbo was ok, definitely not, "the world's best," but better than some. It had just the right amount of kick to it. My husband ordered a half dozen oysters but promptly sent them back without even tasting them as they were tiny. He likes them big and briny smh. I ordered the, "the best shrimp in the civilized world." I don't know about that but they were pretty good. They were cooked perfectly. The shrimp was tender, not overcooked or rubbery, and the batter was crunchy without the inside being mushy or overcooked as fried shrimp can sometimes be. Could've used a tad more salt if seasoning but I'm guessing they want the freshness of the shrimp to be more forward than anything else. The baked potato was super hot and oiled perfectly; no hard pieces to get through. The cole slaw was good. The hush puppies were too; contain corn. My husband ordered the grilled seafood platter w/ swai fish, crab cakes (he wasn't impressed), shrimp skewer, & peel & eat shrimp, w/ green beans, cole slaw, & hush puppies. His gumbo came with his meal. He rated his meal a C & I gave mine a B-. The shrimp was good. I was slightly annoyed with having to make my own cocktail sauce but liked my concoction. It was a new experience. Our server was attentive w/o being overbearing & provided very good service while managing to attend to another table and you he closing tasks. My meal was hot and fresh. The restaurant is very casual with plenty of TVs to watch around the dining room. They have a gift shop of sorts as you enter and a nice outside area with corn hole, green turf, & cafe lights; real cute area. read more

that was the worst food we have ever had. Ask for a medium steak got well done my husband threw up before we left the parking lot. He got a seafood platter and gumbo .His shrimp still had poop in it Manager didnt care, said you'll be fine buddy that wont hit you for 24 hrs From Google: Symptoms of bad seafood poisoning usually start fast, often appearing 30 minutes to 24 hours after eating. read more

Good: Steaks are pricey but great! Service is great. Waitress named Josey was very nice. Food came fast. Bad: They fried the stuffed crab shells, looked like toasted ravioli from St. Louis. Over cooked and dry. Chicken tender appetizer was a nice portion size but tasted awful. We think they needed to change their grease. The chicken was decent on inside but bad oil soaked breading and made it inedible. If you want your tea or soda to taste good you might want to order water. Our drinks were watery and had too much ice. Cola was see through, sweet tea very weak and watery. Ambiance: if it's cool enough to eat outdoors do so. Inside is a dreary grey with black tables and overall feeling of depression it's so dark. If you are getting a steak they seem to do that well. Otherwise would not recommend. read more

Doc's Seafood & Steaks - Ahi Tuna Nachos - Seafood Near Me - Orange Beach, Alabama

Place boasts the best fried shrimp in the civilized world, I wouldn't go that far but it was good. Everyone was pleased with the service we received, the quality of the food and speed of the delivery. One kinda neat thing they offer is a "make your own cocktail sauce" station at your table. I was thrilled to see a COLD water lobster roll. So, that was my obvious choice along with premium fries ( not sure what made them special, they were merely crinkle cut ) All in all a good meal read more

Doc's was our first stop after long travel day. They were not too busy when we arrived which was great for our burgeoning appetites. Service was great and quick with our food coming out fast. We sat almost outside on the porch. I had fried shrimp and oysters meal and my wife had the fried shrimp and fish. It's a lot of fried but great fare. The French fries were very good too! Prices were about what you would expect for the area. Enjoyed our visit. read more

Doc's Seafood & Steaks - Shrimp and Fish - Seafood Near Me - Orange Beach, Alabama

This place came highly recommended to us so I had high expectations. It was very busy, so we had to wait a little, which we didn't mind. The parking lot was jammed and hard to navigate. We waited and were seated earlier than told. Server was quick, kind and helpful. The rating is mostly for the food. We got seafood platters and they were okay. The food was heavily fried and the breading encompassed most of the actual "seafood." The grilled shrimp were good and the crab cake were our favorite. Also, the make your own cocktail sauce is lowkey lazy for me. Just provide cocktail sauce. Overall, it was an okay experience if you're looking for fried food. read more

The atmosphere was nice. The service was ok, they seemed a little short staffed. We ordered appetizers and dinner. It was disappointing that all of it came out at the same time. The waiters solution was to offer tot take the apps back and not charge us. We kept it all. The grilled oysters were great according to those that ate them. The drinks are good. The fried and grilled shrimp were good. The grilled fish wasn't good. Fried clams tasted frozen. Overall a good place, a bit pricy, and I'd recommend sticking to the fried shrimp. read more

Being a recent relo to the Foley area from Daphne, we have been looking for new food spots and decided to try Doc's - BIG mistake. First let me say the help is welcoming and helpful, sadly that's where the good news stops. The menu is limited and WAY overpriced - big time ! The setting is definitely for the over 50 crowd (aka music, menu selections, salad bar, etc). Lots of "fried" food, little grilled or fresh options. For us when we see "warning signs" after sitting down, we always opt for the least likely stomach offender listed on the menu, in our case the grilled fish sandwich and standby burger both coming with fries. Here is a short list of our YIKES 1) both our sandwiches had previously cooked/prepared meat on them, is was clearly just warmed up for the delivery :( 2) fries were warm not hot and seasoned funny 3) when I asked for mustard they had only the takeaway dispensers no on table dispensing unit :( 4) sandwiches were really bad, the fish was swimming in grease, so much so the bun was not edible. The hamburger was so dry it made sawdust seem like an oasis. 5) coffee was cool on delivery and when we asked them to nuke it , the waitress informed us they did not have a microwave on site - really ? 6) both of us agreed that the best thing on our plate was the garnish of tomato and lettuce 7) a $40 tab plus tip was the icing on the cake This place is new .. the food however is some of the worst we have ever had - the only way we would return is if we were arrested and handcuffed, then blindfolded beforehand. read more

tonight we tried the Docs location on perdido drive. while it lacks the old seafood location feel that i always enjoy at Docs on Canal, it is spacious and clean with outdoor seating available. we sat at the bar and enjoyed the combo plate of oysters, shrimp, and stuffed crab. although they do have the best fried shrimp in the civilized world, if you know you know, i enjoy their stuffed crab best. bar service is typically always fast, one reason we love it and this location did not disappoint. this location is much larger so if your trying to reduce your wait this location is a better choice for you. if your always on island time, maybe i see you on canal. read more

It's beautiful relaxing indoors and outdoor dining, which I loved the service was great, try it and enjoy it,the food is to die for.

Would not call it the best shrimp in the world as it was over cooked and they were pretty tough and chewy but it's also peak season and they were slammed so there's that.. not really a fair review given this as service was not good.. but then again this on the main strip in a main tourist trap section so one would think they would be accustomed to it and prepared.. ?? After going to the original Doc's for years and being huge fans of the fried shrimp and Spider Burger we decided today to see what the new store is all about. In part because it has four times as many beers on tap and more wine offerings as well. I also noted that they do a Marg with Hornitos, Cointreau, Agave, fresh lime juice, lemon and orange. If this is truly done with freshly squeezed lime juice then I'm def interested. But get this... $19! Nowhere in all of Texas; even in big city, top tier restaurants have I ever encountered a $19 Margarita. I'd have to watch this poured to buy in to this cocktail. LOL. These days we always order a dozen fries shrimp each, a la carte. No sides to interfere with the main business. We opened the store today at lunch and these came out perfectly cooked, super hot and as crispy as crisp can be. As we were still hungry we ordered six more to share and these had obviously been cooked earlier and then plated for us from a pan under a warmer. Still tasty but soggy and just warm. This store is humongous and while pleasant enough a dining venue it just does not hold the appeal for us of the old seafood dive ambiance of the original store. So we'll stick with the original store for the Best Fried Shrimp in the Entire Civilized World! read more

We passed by this place on our way to the hotel and noticed they claim on their menu "#1 steak in America." My husband said, "That's a bold statement. I may have to see if it's true or not." So we did! We arrived at lunch and there were several vehicles in the parking lot, but no wait to be seated. He ordered the 20 oz Ribeye with fries (noted as "premium fries" on the menu) & I ordered the Fish Fillet, blackened, with a loaded baked potato. Loaded = the usual butter, sour cream, along with shredded cheese, green onions, and bacon bits. His steak looked beautiful, but we laughed because the premium fries just looked like regular crinkle cut. He tasted one and then thoughtfully, with the air of a seasoned, Michelin star chef, said, "These are ... Oreida ... Extra Crispy ....Crinkle Cut. Exactly what we buy at home." I'm not arguing with that confidence. My plate also looked wonderful. The menu plainly says at the top that my order comes with fries or baked potato along with Cole slaw and hush puppies but I didn't see that until after I got my order and wondered "why do I have slaw?" Had I noticed this, I would've substituted broccoli or something else for the slaw. It was fine, completely my error not theirs. Verdict: he said the steak, while good, was NOT in fact, the #1 steak in America. Had it been a $28 steak at Long Horn, he said, he would've been very pleased. However, this was a $42 steak claiming to be the best along with what we suspect was Oreida crinkle cut fries. My fish was very good though, good enough to take the leftovers with me so I can enjoy them later. The service was excellent and overall, food was good. Solid 4 stars. read more

Food wouldn't be flavorful without frying. Food is subpar and service is worse. Will be finding another restaurant ASAP.

The restaurant was busy and we were a party of 2 so we took the first available table, which was in the bar area. Our waitress was also the bartender, she took our order and was delivered fast. My wife had the boiled shrimp was very good and cooked well. I had the Best Fried shrimp, as advertised in the civilized world, it was good but the "make your own tartar sauce" was what sold me on the shrimp. The atmosphere in the restaurant was sea-fairing and the esthetics were nicely done. Thanks Barry B. read more

Not worth the money or your time. Oysters not cooked. Grouper awful. Grilled shrimp not grilled.

The food was really good. We walked in at 11am as they were opening and received the worst attitude from the host. She was extremely upset we had walked in as she was getting settled in at the podium. The management apologized and let us know she's not usually like that but she was annoyed by getting guests just as the doors opened. Its best to visit this establishment a good 30 minutes after they open. read more
