Doc's was our first stop after long travel day. They were not too busy when we arrived which was great for our burgeoning appetites. Service was great and quick with our food coming out fast. We sat almost outside on the porch. I had fried shrimp and oysters meal and my wife had the fried shrimp and fish. It's a lot of fried but great fare. The French fries were very good too! Prices were about what you would expect for the area. Enjoyed our visit.

The food was ok. The crab cakes were probably the best thing we ordered. The red snapper was too salty. The sides did not have much taste to them. The raw oysters were small but good. The steamed oysters were good.

Would not call it the best shrimp in the world as it was over cooked and they were pretty tough and chewy but it's also peak season and they were slammed so there's that.. not really a fair review given this as service was not good.. but then again this on the main strip in a main tourist trap section so one would think they would be accustomed to it and prepared.. ?? Gifting them another .5 a star up to a solid three to be understanding of that ...

Well it looks like a buffet. Reds, gumbo, and shrimp

Food is always plentiful. Food is great. Service is impeccable with our normal waiter. We love sitting outside even on a hot day. I recently ordered seafood platter and while I can eat a lot, I could not finish this one. I tried my hardest.

We passed by this place on our way to the hotel and noticed they claim on their menu "#1 steak in America." My husband said, "That's a bold statement. I may have to see if it's true or not." So we did! We arrived at lunch and there were several vehicles in the parking lot, but no wait to be seated. He ordered the 20 oz Ribeye with fries (noted as "premium fries" on the menu) & I ordered the Fish Fillet, blackened, with a loaded baked potato. Loaded = the usual butter, sour cream, along with shredded cheese, green onions, and bacon bits. His steak looked beautiful, but we laughed because the premium fries just looked like regular crinkle cut. He tasted one and then thoughtfully, with the air of a seasoned, Michelin star chef, said, "These are ... Oreida ... Extra Crispy ....Crinkle Cut. Exactly what we buy at home." I'm not arguing with that confidence. My plate also looked wonderful. The menu plainly says at the top that my order comes with fries or baked potato along with Cole slaw and hush puppies but I didn't see that until after I got my order and wondered "why do I have slaw?" Had I noticed this, I would've substituted broccoli or something else for the slaw. It was fine, completely my error not theirs. Verdict: he said the steak, while good, was NOT in fact, the #1 steak in America. Had it been a $28 steak at Long Horn, he said, he would've been very pleased. However, this was a $42 steak claiming to be the best along with what we suspect was Oreida crinkle cut fries. My fish was very good though, good enough to take the leftovers with me so I can enjoy them later. The service was excellent and overall, food was good. Solid 4 stars.

After going to the original Doc's for years and being huge fans of the fried shrimp and Spider Burger we decided today to see what the new store is all about. In part because it has four times as many beers on tap and more wine offerings as well. I also noted that they do a Marg with Hornitos, Cointreau, Agave, fresh lime juice, lemon and orange. If this is truly done with freshly squeezed lime juice then I'm def interested. But get this... $19! Nowhere in all of Texas; even in big city, top tier restaurants have I ever encountered a $19 Margarita. I'd have to watch this poured to buy in to this cocktail. LOL. These days we always order a dozen fries shrimp each, a la carte. No sides to interfere with the main business. We opened the store today at lunch and these came out perfectly cooked, super hot and as crispy as crisp can be. As we were still hungry we ordered six more to share and these had obviously been cooked earlier and then plated for us from a pan under a warmer. Still tasty but soggy and just warm. This store is humongous and while pleasant enough a dining venue it just does not hold the appeal for us of the old seafood dive ambiance of the original store. So we'll stick with the original store for the Best Fried Shrimp in the Entire Civilized World!

We are locals and have frequented Docs maybe half a dozen times. Their fare is pretty much centered on fried seafood and we know that going in. Last trip which was recent I ordered the soft shell crabs and although I knew they weren't fresh, they were really just pretty much fried batter. And I'm a soft shell aficionado if I do say so myself. Maybe they should only serve these in season. The oysters on the po-boy were not freshly shucked as well. The shrimp on the loaf was the best item of the night. I got a draft beer for $6 which wasn't very cold. With my dinner I got two new potatoes and two bites of a pretty good coleslaw. Service was fine and friendly but cannot go over a 3 star ok rating for now. Might stick to lunch for our next meal here and enjoy some fried chicken.

Pick 3 fried shrimp, broiled shrimp and fried oysters.

We stopped in for lunch. We shared a pick 3 combo. The broiled shrimp were good but not great, the fried oysters were great and the fried shrimp were excellent. Very good service from Kelly. A great stop for lunch in an area that has a few hundred restaurants.

Love the shout out for Charlie Kirk

The grilled shrimp were very delicious. Making your own cocktail sauce was pretty cool as well. Great service and nice atmosphere. When we were leaving saw the sign outside and it made me like the place even more.

    Lunch

Met at Docs for early lunch. Food was good, tasty Had grilled chicken salad which was huge and fresh. Husband had double burger with cheese. He enjoy it and said it was good. Other family members had seafood and said it was good and fresh.

First time to the area on a quick mini vacation from CO. Found Docs Seafood Shack online and decided to stop in for dinner. Our waiter Dallas was amazing, very friendly, attentive and made our dining experience easy and fun. Food came out quick, accurate and very tasty. Great overall dining experience and look forward to dining here again next time we're in the area.

The grilled shrimp they are famous for do not have a savory flavor, tastes more like they were grilled with honey on them. We were not expecting that at all. We did not like the 30 dollars worth of sweet shrimp. It does come in very generous portion if you like that type of flavor. Hush puppies were pretty darn good, light, nicely seasoned with good flavor. The Cole slaw was excellent. All portions were generous. Overall they are friendly, the service is personable and efficient! Ambiance is that of a local diner style, not fancy just comfortable. We liked everything but the sweet grilled shrimp. We are from the north and maybe it is just a southern style we aren't familiar with or used to consuming. The gumbo is pretty good too. They have great mixed drinks and they have one that is a salted caramel flavor that is really excellent. Overall: would highly recommend for a good meal and friendly service. Probably the best place we ate in the Orange Beach area.

My advice, find a seat, have someone order at the order window, then head to the bar to order drinks. The wait to order food took about a half hour. It was very quick to get our drinks. We were able to snag a couch area on a platform. It was so comfy and we loved the views. A heads up- if you snag a couch like this, kids will get up on the platform and jump off of it. People will step up on the platform and walk extremely close to you. I had to ask a kid to stop throwing sand by us because we were eating our dinner. It was a little chaotic. We were extremely patient and understand, but I could see some people being very upset and annoyed. After ordering, our food came out pretty quick. I started with the coconut grouper bites and they were phenomenal. Light breading, lightly sweat, and flaky. I had the Gulf Grilled Cobia and it was phenomenal. The fish was tender, flaky, and light. No fishiness at all. The sauce on the fish was also delightful. My husband and son had the fajita skewers and both enjoyed them. My husband also had the peel and eat shrimp and said they were amazing at The Gulf. Our drinks were okay. We had better drinks at other places during the week, but they weren't bad. It's smells clean not like stinky fish. They have a counter full of ice for fresh items, coolers for premade goods, and freezers for frozen items. There is also a very easy to understand menu. We were feeding 4 teenagers and 2 adults so we decided to go with 3 of the boils. We added in crab legs to two. The crab legs are frozen so you just pick out which pack you want. You have 3 seasons to choose from, mild, medium, or Cajun. We did the medium and Cajun. We also grabbed a container of their lump crab dip and a peanut butter pie. Oh and you can't forget the garlic butter. They even warmed it up for us. I will say with everything we got we probably could have fed at least one more person. We did have one teen that wasn't fond of shrimp but she ate plenty of other things. Our meal cost us just under $200. That's just over $33 per person with dessert for 6 people. The sausage was really good. It was the main thing the kids wished we had more of, that and potatoes. They are big potato fans. I didn't think the potatoes really had a chance to soak up the flavor but if you cut them open and rubbed them around it was good. I thought overall everything was a bit salty and that's a lot coming from me. I'm the girl that salts my chocolate chip cookies. I like my salt y'all! The shrimp was a bit over cooked or something because it was extremely hard to peel but wasn't rubbery. We got the large shrimp and the headless reds. To be honest with you I couldn't really tell a difference. If I did it over again I wouldn't waste the extra money on the reds. The dip was very good. It was loaded with flavor and clumps of crab just like it should be. It did not have any shells that we came across which is a big plus in my book. The peanut butter pie was very tasty. I highly recommend it! We are already planning to stop back in when we head back down for our next wrestling tournament. You really can not beat the price for seafood in the area.
