The food is decent. The waiting time is atrocious. Would not recommend to any hungry people.

We went to the restaurant to celebrate a birthday. After calling in advance and then reminding them when we arrived they failed to bring out the cake and candles that we expected. Furthermore the food was terrible. The salmon was spoiled, the calamari was all bead and no calamari and the desert was unremarkable. All this for over$100 per couple. Have frequented this restaurant for several years but admit have not been here for approximately a year. An old friend was back in town and wanted to return their for dinner. Most upsetting experience. We arrived shortly before 6 pm and was seated in their outside porch area. We ordered a favorite drink that we call a "Peach Bubbly" made with peach vodka, cranberry juice, and topped with champagne. My friend and I shared 3 each of these drinks between the time we arrived until the time we had finished appetizers, the entire bread basket (good bye diet), and a dinner.....approximately now 9 pm. The owner approached us and asked us if we were alright to drive? we were both a taken by this but said "yes". Then he returned after we had deserts and had ordered after dinner drinks he insisted we get an Uber. We cancelled our after dinner drinks; and asked for the check. The waiter tried to reconcile the situation but it was not his fault and/or responsibility. We were happy to leave and never return. However, on the way out my friend walked out briskly but as I was leaving the owner again asked about the Uber in which I responded "there is no Uber, we are fine" and then he said the most unbelievable thing in a loud voice at his bar "She" (meaning my friend) "drank five martinis in one hour" WHAT? I could see that this man was behaving in an irrational manner and I told him he was mistaken and we were leaving......at which point he continued to follow me out the door and yell at me. ??? I considered calling the police because his behavior was aggressive and bizarre. He was shouting something about his family and protecting them HOLY SHIT!!! not going back. If this owner thought that we were there to "tie one on" and that we were "being over served" that is was his responsibility to speak a lot sooner.....we were there for 3 hours!! It was his bar making the drinks!!! Further, if he was so worried about his "risk" then why didn't he order a taxi? Seems to me in retrospect his goal was more about making a scene for me and my friend. To make matters worse, I got sick from what I believe to be the seafood appetizer I had....the shrimp was a little old. Nothing like spending $300 and having your evening ruined and then getting sick on top of it. read more

The food was OK, but I felt it was a little over priced. Another couple that was seated before us got up and left when the waitress took our drink order before theirs. I had finish my draft and it wasn't till the end of our meal came back to see if I wanted another. read more

We've been coming here at least one night a week that we come to OCNJ for the past 15 years. Service and the food are great. Every year is better then the last. This year we have one disappointment. When my son had his sliders and homemade potato wedges(French fries) wrapped to go, they completely left all of his wedges out of the to go container. Kid was so upset when we got back to our place. And they were AMAZING. Don't know why they would not wrap them as well. I could see if there were only a few left but I think he had 10 or so left. This will not keep us from returning but make sure you check your to go containers and make sure all is there!!!! read more

Had dinner there tonight. No waiting for a table. Service a little slow while water & bread & awesome dipping oil! Crab cake appetizer had excellent flavor but was cold in the middle. My salmon entree was hot & very flavorful but hubby's chicken special was cold. Not sure if we'll return or not. read more

Mundane to poor. Will not return. A lovely location but they need to step up the food quality. My Martini was average and when served the waiter proceeded to dump what had slopped into the underlying saucer, back into my glass! Have never seen that before! The clam chowder that one my dining partners ordered was " the worst he ever had" - limited to no chunks of potato and clam, no taste/bland and unnaturally thick. Flank steak was ordered and came in pre-cut chunks ( have never seen that before either). Chopped Salad was drowning in dressing- literally covering the entire plate - with plain iceberg swimming in the "pool". Scallops were very mundane. But the worst part of the meal were the sides; absolutely nothing healthy to choose from except maybe one choice- fires, sweet potatoes fries, snap peas and - probably one of the most disgusting things I have ever been served in a restaurant - creamed spinach. This was truly inedible - it was a thick glob of green striated white glue with chunks of something- not sure what they were - in it. Tasted like a box of thickener had been dumped into a teaspoon of green flakes. Will not be returning. read more

First, I will say that when I called to make reservations for dinner to celebrate our daughter's engagement, the girl who took the reservation was very helpful and said she understood the importance of the occasion. Unfortunately, the good service ended there. Our waitress rushed us to order and was sarcastic when I asked "order dinner now?" To which she stated "That's what you came here for isn't it?" Unbelievable. And the manager/owner? when asked for him to take a picture at the end of the evening seemed to be inconvenienced when he was actually just standing there. I said that it was our daughter's engagement to which he said "Yea, I know ". The food was good, service definitely not. We will not go back again. Left a very bad taste in our mouths. read more

For starterters, the staff was very friendly. The place is in need of a good cleaning including, but not limited to, getting rid of a nasty mildewy smell. We ordered clam chowder, which turned out to be very thick flour ladened white sauce with absolutely no seasoning whatsoever - nada. The oyster platter was good with a vinegar dip along with cocktail sauce. The mussels were fresh, but the sauce was a real mystery. No garlic, no seasoning, the wine had deciidely cheap taste to it. Not good. Two of our party ordered clams with pasta. Looked like canned clams &, again, no seasoning. The salad was a sad, tired,chopped iceberg that was past its prime. That went right back. Toobad because this place has a great location. It reminds me of places that have had their best days and are looking for a buyer. read more

My brother and his fiancé were supposed to have their wedding at my parents' house this past weekend. As a result of the 65 mph winds, all of the rain, and coastal flooding, the tent company they hired refused to put up the tents on my parents' dock on the 17th Street lagoon in OC. With 29 hours to go before the ceremony took place, I called Jeff at The Doc's Place to see if he would consider hosting the reception. At first, he thought I was joking, but after explaining our situation to him, he told us to come over to discuss options and details. Within one hour, Jeff had everything worked out. Twenty-eight hours later, we packed The Doc's Place with 110 people and had the time of our lives. Jeff and his staff exceeded our expectations! The atmosphere and food were fantastic as well! DO NOT GO! Overpriced and small portions. Your money will go a lot further at the Crab Trap or Anchorage and your taste buds will certainly agree. Doc's has perfected dump-out-of-the-bag cooking. The deck is great but it does not trump bad service and sub-par food. read more

Went there for lunch on a weekday. It was not very crowded, and we were promptly seated. We waited quite a long time for the waitress to come by for our drink order, but she apologized for the delay and promptly served our drinks. However, it took an inordinately long time to come back for our food order. My wife ordered the chicken and spinach wrap with fries, which she said was quite tasty. I ordered the crab cake sandwich with fries. I could not quite put my finger on it, but the crab cakes had a bit of an odd aftertaste (frozen perhaps?). Waitress never came back to ask if we needed more drinks. She just left the bill without asking us if we wanted to see the desert menu. Although I would have liked a desert, I probably wouldn't have ordered one since the service was so slow and I did not want to be there the whole afternoon. In short, I had a mediocre experience and will probably not return. read more

Great experienced service on the porch, along with a nice mix on the menu for both breakfast & lunch. Very affordable & you will not be disappointed with quality & quantity! I had my bridal shower at Doc's Place this last Saturday. The staff could not have been more accommodating. The food and service was great, also. We had a sit down lunch. Although it can be difficult to put out many dishes at once, each guest's food came out hot, consistent, and delicious. We went there for restaurant week . Three courses for $25.the food was good, but the portion sizes were extremely small . I guess they wanted to make sure they got a profit. Felt like we were being played. The service was very good, but the size of the portions had a bad effect on the meal. Will not go back for restaurant week again. read more

My family and I had a reservation for dinner last Saturday at 6. It was our first time there. We were told that we were to be eating outside on the deck in complete sun. I asked the hostess if she could please seat us inside because it was very hot and could not eat our dinner out there. She was very rude and insisted she could not seat us. Every table in the place was empty at this time. I asked to speak to the owner who came and was equally rude. Neither of these people know how to treat customers. Your hostess should be pleasant and try to accommodate. She was neither of these. I guess she learned from her employer! Needless to say, we left and have no plans to return or recommend. read more

Our reservations was for 8 PM. The table was empty but no one was setting it so we sat around in the waiting area for almost 1/2 hour. We finally sat down and delicious bread appeared. The overworked waiter took our order after a little while and we were served our meal almost 45 minutes later. The food was very good. The reason we would never return to Doc's is the noise level. There was a singer who while being very good, was loud and the patrons had to shout to have a conversation. It was so noisy in that room that we could not speak normally to the person next to us. Our friends had been there in the past but earlier on an evening when there wasn't such a din. They were very upset that they had chosen this restaurant for our little reunion. read more

The first week of November I made a reservation for 2 for Thanksgiving for an inside table at 4:30pm for my mother who is 88 and myself. I made the reservation in person after having a nice lunch. The reservation was made in front of the hostess, my waiter and the bartender on duty. I was second on the list for the 4:30pm seating and saw the hostess write it down in front of the two other people. Eight days to the day later, the manager called and said he had to move us to the outside porch with plastic tables, a plastic covering, plastic chairs etc. It is unacceptable for ann 88 year old. I asked to be first to move back inside. I called tonight and was told no cancellations. He was insulting to me, and in no way had any compassion for an 88 year old woman having to spend what could be her last Thanksgiving on a plastic enclosed porch with plastic tables. He did offer to get her a wooden chair. Oh thanks. He simply did not get that the whole situation was totally unacceptable. And this has to be one of the worst reservation snafus I have ever encountered. I would not be so angry if they had called back that day, but eight days put me in a bad position. Will never go back, and I would be wary about a special occasion reservation here. read more

nice place. the restaurant is clean and service was good. food was solid, not amazing but good. we went for the early bird special and for the price, you get a lot of food. definitely a great value. the thing we really liked most was the outside seating/deck. nice view of the marina and very relaxing. read more
