Was here for a friend's wedding and while the food was good, some aspects of the service were pretty bad. The new england clam chowder was really good. The grilled 8oz sirloin wasn't bad, and the chocolate apricot mousse cake was decent. Overall, the food wasn't bad, but I've had better and I've also had much worse. Strike 1: They dropped off piping hot rolls on the table with whipped butter and people started eating them cause the bread was getting cold and our soup was nowhere near being ready. The soup arrives and a piece of bread would've been nice to soak up some of the chowder and I asked our server for some extra bread for it and her response was "that's all the bread you get." I've never been to a restaurant where I was denied a piece of bread, especially when it's to be used with the soup. I kind of gave her the "you serious?" look and then she just walked off. Strike 2: The bar was on a hosted ticket system, so each guest got 2 tickets that could be used for alcoholic drinks, and non-alcoholic drinks would take up a half ticket. We went to the bartender and wanted a virgin Ceasar (calamato, salt, pepper, few splashes of Tabasco and worchestire) and they said that was 1 drink ticket because it was a "premium non-alcoholic drink". Sorry, but since when was Clamato juice and a few shakes of seasoning considered premium? The glass wasn't even rimmed with celery salt or garnished with anything and you consider that premium? Another friend went up shortly after seeing the Ceasar and asked to get one and they said they wouldn't make it cause "the tickets only covered highballs" They're essentially the same thing, so to stiff someone because you're gonna add a few shakes of seasoning is pretty lame. Strike 3: The layout for the restaurant is not conducive to hosting a wedding or any party more than 8-9 tables. I normally enjoy Dockside, but will never return. I ordered the Pork Milanese "Crispy" breaded Pork Chop. The pork chop was underdone, and quite a lot of fat. The first bite I took was all fat. A warm gelatinous glob of fat in my mouth... I would have spat it out, but I was having dinner with my friends I haven't seen in person for almost 2 years, I did not want to put a damper on the time. I'll never go back, just thinking about it makes my stomach roll. The service was excellent as always though. Too bad I had a bad experience. read more

What is it about Vancouver and its restaurants? They're all excellent! At least, the ones we've been to - and we've visited 5 or 6 times now in the past 4-5 months, going out to eat for every meal. Practically every meal we've had has been wonderful! What gives? (Note: it probably helps that I research most restaurants on Yelp before going! lol). Our dinner at Dockside was fabulous. First off, the restaurant interior is beautiful. I requested a window seat and, since we were there at dusk, the view of the water and the Vancouver skyline was spectacular. Our waiter was incredible! (Wish I remembered his name). What a nice guy! We chatted a lot (the restaurant was quite empty, being a Sunday night, and pouring rain out). This server had us laughing, and he was super attentive, too (without being hovering). Very knowledgeable about the menu, too. Now to the food... wow! Every dish was amazing. I knew in advance I was going to have the Salad Nicoise. It was fresh and delicious, with slabs of perfectly seared albacore tuna atop. Hubby had the grilled chicken which he said was divine, with a citrus-y rub or marinade that gave it a wonderful seasoning. This came with beautiful asparagus and potatoes, too. Our daughter had the smoked salmon penne which, in a move that astounded us, she finished entirely (she usually eats like a bird). She said it was THAT good. For dessert we shared a chocolate molten cake (my husband's favorite dessert. I personally preferred the espresso ice cream that came with the cake, served in a light, crispy sugar shell), and our daughter had the CoCo Moco hot dessert drink which she said was "to die for". Came here for lunch and ordered oysters to start. I had the steak salad and my friend had the clam pasta. The service here is unbelievably slow. Definitely not the first class service of Victor or Cioppinos. The wait staff were all running around and didn't seem to be in order. The food was ok but my steak was very stringy and overpriced for what it was. Tasted ok but too expensive. The pasta was very tasty but no better than any other pasta joint downtown. Glad we tried but will not be recommending or returning. Had to hunt down our server Gord as he seemed to be oblivious to that fact that having finished our food we wanted the bill or at least an offer of the dessert menu. We came here for dinner before a show and this place is really good! We sat next to the window over looking the water. Our server was excellent, we had told him what time we had to leave and he kept us on time to get us to our show. The seafood was all cooked to perfection. Had the mussels and flatbread to start. Entrees were Thai Bouillabaisse and the grilled Haida Hawaii halibut. We finished the meal with a coconut milk cheesecake. Will definitely come back! read more

Do not go to Dockside, aside from the lack of parking because of construction that they have failed to let their guests know. We were met with very rude serving staff saying that that parking is it not their responsibility, unstandable. However you could have some compassion for the people wanting to spend money at your restaurant. On top of that when asked to speak to a manager, the manager was rude and walked away when I attempted to mention the issue. read more

Went here for dinner on a Friday evening. I made reservations the night before and had no issues. When making reservations, try to request a table near the window, because this place has a spectacular view of the water. I appreciate a place that has an awesome view and the reason why I am giving this a solid rating is mostly due to its location. The food is solid. We ordered the tuna poke with wonton crisps. It looked and tasted more like a tuna tar tar than poke. It needed more Asian/sesame flavours and they could have been a bit more generous with the wonton crisps. I also had their blackberry mojito (1.5 shot) which was decent. For my main I had the sturgeon that was in some butter sauce and creamy risotto. For $34 it was ok. It was good but not great...it tasted like a solid dish you would expect from a wedding. I was happy and full, so what more can I say. It just didn't knock my socks off. But the view and company made the visit more special. This is a place you could take guests from out of town who want a nice view of the city and can walk around Granville island before or after your meal. The service we received from the hostess and server was great. I would come back for drinks on their outside patio, but I would probably pass on dinner. read more

Went for lunch to celebrate a special occasion today. The place was packed, but then it's Xmas Eve. What I like about this place is they have enough space to walk around comfortably between tables. No need to wiggle anywhere you go. Our friendly waiter took our order, and when the food arrived, a few different servers helped bring the items over. The "suit" was enthusiastic and made sure everything was in order. We had Caesar's Salad, pizza, Shephard's Pie, fish n chips, and pork and shrimp Banh Mi Sandwich (which was more like a burger). All were fantastic. Salad had real bacon bits, Shephard's Pie had read chunks of meat (instead of minced), fish n chips had a perfect batter that was not oily at all, and the sandwich tasted nice with the juicy pork patty and cilantro to bring out that Vietnamese taste. The only thing I must point out - and this is how they lost one star - is that the bottle of vinegar they brought to the table was not only relatively dirty with foggy sidings, it also had a fly inside. We pointed it out to the waiter, and he actually asked, "Would you like me to bring you another one?" What? Why yes, of course! Please do! That would be nice! No apologies from the waiter.... So really, other than that little hick up, the experience was very pleasant. We were so full at the end that we regrettably did not have room for that Creme Brulee. So let's hope they can improve that troubleshooting soon. read more

This spot is one I've been looking at for while. It's on Granville Island, and we've often walked by and noticed the patio. I was finally able to snag a weekend reservation and was able to experience the awesome patio for myself! The service was excellent. The food was pretty good, though I don't know if I would go for just the food without the view to go along with it. Get the amatriciana pasta, it was delicious. We also enjoyed the bone marrow appy but would have appreciated a little more bread than one piece each. Regardless, we be back for some patio action soon! read more

Dockside is launching new à la carte and group dining menus just in time for spring and sunny weather. Executive Chef Simon James McNeil has developed a series of new, locally sourced dishes and entrées in house. Immediately appealing, the watermelon cream soda float (with a macaron on top) was delicious, fruity, smooth, and full of flavour. Bringing summer flavours, the albacore tuna poke (with sesame, soy, ginger, and avocado on chilli lime taro chips) was a delightfully simple starter. I really enjoyed their take on the shaved prime rib beef dip (balsamic onions, arugula, and blue cheese aioli on a garlic toasted baguette) full of filling goodness with jalapeño peppers for good measure. A mixture of tastes, the seared scallop with quinoa and mango was intriguing in its composition of flavours. A definite standout was the grilled beef tenderloin served on some rich and creamy macaroni and cheese with its well-cooked, comforting nature. The albacore tuna togarashi was a straightforwardly satisfying enough canapé with a light touch. Their lemon meringue tart with raspberry was a definite highlight with a delectably sweet taste. Dockside's upcoming new spring menu hopes to fit nicely in any setting in the sun. read more

Drink beer and watch curling. That's exactly what we did. My friends and I had some free time before a meetup with other friends so we headed to Dockside for beers. (We had originally intended to do beer tastings at the Granville Island Brewing Company, but their Taproom was closed due to construction. Sad!) Since we didn't want any food, we opted to sit in the bar/lounge area of the restaurant. Beers on tap were basically all their house brews. My boyfriend and I ordered the sampler and shared it since we were unsure which beers would be to our taste. We tried 6 of the 8 varieties, but were not too impressed. They were just alright. I've had better craft beer. I did like the atmosphere, decor and waterside views here. They also have a cool open kitchen. If I had a choice between Granville Island Brewery and Dockside Brewery, I'd go with Granville Island. read more

This is a beautiful restaurant with a fantastic location! This is a classic example of a nice, elegant, and casual place with a little bit of pretentiousness...but not over the top.....and it's on Granville Island. The service here is great. The staff was very attentive and left us alone...magically knew when to come over and take care of anything we needed. We came here for lunch and the menu reflected as such. The difference was the diversity of lunch items...I was very impressed. I had the Qualicum Bay Scallop Sandwich......wow it was amazing. Imagine a club sandwich, minus the turkey or chicken, and add scallops... Scallops and bacon are amazing together! The fish and chips are another great mention. The halibut is caught right up in Haida Gwai (aka Queen Charlotte Islands). The texture is fantastic and the flavour is where its at! I give the food a 2 thumbs up! The location and view is great. I thoroughly enjoyed the view of False Creek.. It may have been that we were there during a cold, but sunny and beautiful, afternoon....not a cloud in the sky. The view was fantastic! Ever walked the Granville Island "seawall?" Past the tourists chowing on previously frozen appies perched on Bridges fine patio, due east of the bros fist pumping on the deck at Whet, beyond Cats Social House, and well around the bend, facing Yaletown, sits the most beautiful patio in all the Granville-Island-land. Dockside. Sparkling water, sailboats, yachts, the shimmering glass of Yaletown anchor this dock, and is one of my favourite patios for watching the world go by. This patio - is more than what you see on average in Vancouver. There's couches, fireplaces, blankets, curtains... it's dreamy. It's almost tropical-vacation-island-like. And ahoy matey's - there's well crafted beer! Jamaican Lager to be precise. Okay, so there's another 8-10 varieties, but this one takes me to island time. With glass, sleeve or pitchers to choose from, you won't go wrong. read more

Like so many places in Vancouver with stunning patio spaces, Dockside Restaurant delivers on the scenery and atmosphere (which it doesn't control) while floundering on food quality (which it does). We had a lovely evening sipping the Dockside brews on the patio in the Lounge side, while nibbling on super-thin-crust pizzas. Heat from the nearby heat lamps and open fire pits wafted over to mingle with the cool breeze from the water. Beautiful. However, had it not been for the half-priced beers and pizzas on Tuesdays (lounge only), I don't think we would've accepted the whole thing. The pizzas are very ordinary and skimpy on the meat. As for the other appetizers (chili squid, mussels and fries, chicken satay skewers), let's just say that if they are indicative of the kitchen's abilities with larger dishes, I have no intention of exploring the menu further. Entirely ordinary food at premium prices. The tow-coloured hostesses in the dining room made it sound like the place would be fully packed, making it difficult to confirm reservations over the phone. They still maintained that myth once we arrived -- but throughout the evening, there were plenty of empty tables in all areas. This is not Miami, girls: Vancouverites like comfortable, accessible, and reliable spots; we'll occasionally get curious about hype, but then you'd better live up to the illusions you create. All night long, behind my patio chair on the ground was a spray bottle of bleach cleaner and a rag. Even though plenty of servers walked by, not one of them noticed that they left their cleaning supplies there. During a recent visit to Vancouver, BC, our family of four joined another family of four for weekend brunch at Dockside. Our kids ordered the braised short rib skillet and the French onion benny, both of which earned high praise. My wife and I shared the croque monsieur and stuffed French toast, which were both delightful as well. The strong tasty coffee and solid service rounded out the experience. Our only major concern was the periodic odor of natural gas that came through a few times during our meal, presumably emanating from the gas fireplaces. Barring that, our visit probably would have merited five stars. read more

Best patio in Vancouver. There I said it. Now who's going to tell me I am wrong? The patio just opened for the year on Friday and I went with some buddies to kick of patio season. I can't think of many other places with sofas and comfy chairs, and other than Lift I don't know of anyone else with outdoor fireplaces for when it cools off at night, but the newest addition this year is a gazebo dining area that's more Las Vegas than Vancouver. The views from the east end of Granville Island down False Creek are great and the food and drink matches the surroundings. It's hard to imagine anyone doing anything different with it but the pan-fried chili squid is batter and deep-fryer free and very tasty. The prime rib sliders were a hit and we kiled the pizzas and clubhouse sandwich we ordered as well. Did I mention they brew their own beer? They call themselves a hidden gem, but when word gets around about the new patio, they'll have to lose the "hidden" from that label. See you on the patio! read more

We went as part of Dine out Vancouver. First off and most importantly they served my husband RAW CHICKEN! He thought it tasted funny so we shone a light on his plate and sure enough it was completely raw. Secondly the service was just awful from start to finish. It felt like the waiter didn't want to be there and he had absolutely no etiquette or class. Thirdly it took way to long for our food to come out. We arrived at 7:45 had a show at 9:30. Our food arrived around 9 and we had to ask for dessert to be sent with the main course. We definitely have a bad taste left in our mouths both literally and figuratively. My first day in Vancouver, my family and I stopped at Dockside for a late afternoon lunch while exploring Glanville Island. Our guidebook said it had the best view in the city. Unfortunately, the day was overcast so we didn't get to enjoy the view. Since we were there on an off hour, only the lounge menu was available (apps, pizzas, and burgers). I felt the service was a little pretentious, and the food was overpriced for the quality. We ordered the spring rolls, squid, shrimp and crab cakes, and arugula mushroom pizza. Nothing was so mouth-watering that I would crave it again, but nothing was bad either... Since Dockside brews their own beers, my boyfriend and father tried house beers and neither of them were impressed (they both actually used the words 'tasteless'). They both enjoyed Granville Island Brewing more. Our bill came to around $120 before tip, and we all left hungry. I would definitely suggest trying another restaurant, unless the day is beautiful and you can enjoy the patio. read more

I didn't have high expectations for this restaurant as I thought it was geared towards tourists and having lived in Vancouver my entire life I had never been here. However we were pleasantly surprised. The room is classy and has a really nice view of False Creek. We had mussels for our appetizer and there were plenty for three of us and they tasted delicious. For our entrées we ordered the prime rib with a side of fries , the beef tenderloin and the pasta special of the day. All portions were very large we couldn't finish it. Quality was quite high. We walked in at 8 pm on a Friday night with no need for a reservation. Our server was a very positive upbeat gentlemen and definitely increased our enjoyment of the meal. For my meal, I ordered the salmon pizza. I don't remember what she ordered. My pizza was huge, and the blend of the white sauce, salmon, and capers was amazing. Everything we've had has been thoroughly enjoyable from the appetizers to the mains, especially if you're a fan of fish. However, they do not excel the way some of Vancouver's other restaurants in this category do. Came here for brunch with a few friends. We sat out on the patio which was good as it was a hot sunny day. The hostess was friendly and quick. The server was also quick to get our order and drinks. The coffee was a little bland and watered down. We had ordered a squid appetizer which was really good. Had a little spice to it to give it a kick, but not so much to ruin your palette. I ordered the smoked salmon eggs benedict which was ok. The salmon was flavorful and I really like it, the only reason it was OK was because the egg was overcooked and the sauce was extremely creamy. The yolk was not runny at all, it was a orange ball. My friend's egg Benedict was better as the egg was done perfectly. My other friend had to get a new fork twice as the first two had old crusty food particles. IMO, the servers should look at the utensils first to make sure they are clean, before bringing them to the customers. This place is a little higher end so one would expect it. My seat was missing utensils so I asked for some when the server took my order. I had to ask for utensils again, even after the food came. The view was great as you can see all the boats, false creek, etc. Even on a cloudy day, the view would still be good. I would have given it 4 stars but because of the utensil issue, it dropped to three stars. read more

I am a huge fan of Dockside! I have been several times and am always pleased. I have had many different plates including squid, scallops, baked oysters and duck...all were delicious, except the duck....I do not recommend the duck, but everything else is delicious! The view is also spectacular and the staff are great. Definitely worth checking out. I made a reservation 6 weeks before my trip to Vancouver as we were going with friends and wanted to make sure we had reservations all set. I received a confirmation 1 week before my trip that our reservation was confirmed. Then today I received a call from a "hostess" at the restaurants saying they had decided to take a large private party and that I could with er sit outside on the patio where there were no umbrellas and it might rain or I could go elsewhere. When I told her that I was not from Vancouver and could she give me a recommendation she said, "no not really, you will need to figure out somewhere else on the island to dine." Really! It's bad enough that you are cancelling me last minute but then to not even offer to suggest an alternative??? read more

We booked a table for our anniversary on the outdoor patio. The hostess sat us at very poor table even though I asked to sit at one of the empty nicer tables with views next to the water. Having had recent foot surgery and being on crutches, I sat down at the table with my daughter ( for 1 minute) to wait for my husband to join us after parking the car. When my husband arrived, we asked to seated at one of the view tables. We were told in a very condescending tone "CoVid potocols don't allow "table-hopping"!!!!!! WTF ! ( table hopping is when different parties socialize between tables). I am very sure it does not apply to seating a customer respectfully at a table. Views are beautiful but horrible service. We made a reservation but didn't get waterfront seats and were told we couldn't move. We asked our waiter 3 times to turn on the heater and he said we would have to remind him later because he was too busy. We asked other staff members and they just told us to ask our waiter. We ordered the cheesy bread rolls (10/10), the mac n cheese (5/10) - the cheese on top was not melted underneath, and the mussels and fries (6/10) - flavorless and no bread to dip in the sauce. We could not get our waiters attention for the bill and when we finally paid he was weird and creepy. Dinner Review: We had made a reservation for 8pm, our table wasn't ready so we waited at the bar. When we sat down there was only a manager behind the bar and he didn't greet us, he was actually behind the bar for a few minutes and then just walked away leaving the bar unattended and not saying anything...was odd. Once we got our table, the server was very prompt. I had asked about switching out the mashed potato side on my entree for an alternative. The only one she gave was extra veg, no potatoes. I discovered they had warm potato salad as another side to an entree and asked if my mashed potatoes could be switched and she said no. I recognized that you could order both types of potatoes separately as a side dish and noticed it cost more, I offered to pay the difference it was still a no. What bothered me was she didn't even check and couldn't tell me why. So I stopped the manager and asked why I couldn't switch, he said they "don't really accommodate order changes and that the kitchen is to busy for that tonight". I was surprised, usually such a small request is easy to manage and makes the customers visit that much better and worth talking about to friends. The meals overall had great flavour and were a healthy portion. It felt like the server lost her attentiveness once she found out I spoke with the manager. The chat with the manager had nothing to do with her, just wanted to know why... I would recommend food and location to friends, I would not recommend for service. read more

Beautiful dining environment by the water at Granville Island with outdoor seating, but mediocre food. FOCACCIA BREAD - Sadly, it was dry. SABLEFISH - The fish was decently done, but the flavours of the dish including the wehani rice just did not sit well with me. THAI BOUILLABAISSE - I enjoyed this dish. The mussels and clams were average. The salmon and halibut tasted fine but a bit overcooked. The crispy coconut almond rice cake was interesting and tasted delectable when dipped in the Thai Curry Bouillabaisse base. This restaurant isn't spectacular, but it will do in a pinch if you're staying at the Granville Island Hotel for the night or an event. The prices are very high, but the food isn't fantastic. I think they take advantage of their great location a bit. That said, the view, especially from the patio, is amazing. The patio sits near a dock that looks out onto the water.
