Manager waited on our large group, during this time she appeared to be either heavily medicated or high on something. We ordered food and it was either over or under cooked. My steak was ordered medium well, and it came out very rare, which I discovered after cutting halfway through the steak. All the sides were soaking in blood from the steak. asked for a new plate in which I was told it is not their policy and that she could throw the steak only back on. After going back and forth for what seemed like an eternity she brings me the same steak that I said I didn't want and demands I try this piece of leather, I insisted she just take it all off the bill and she continued to badger me, I said no thank you but she continued with her argument. at the end when I received the bill she charged me for the salad I took a bite of and returned. Everyone said the food was terrible and that the managers attitude and reaction was very unprofessional. I will never go back to this place again, and would not recommend it to anyone! read more

I like the atmosphere of this place. It's very unassuming, hidden away in the corner of a strip mall. They have a list of beers on tap but chances are they will be out of your first, second, and third choice. Went for dollar taco night and it was at least 45 minutes before our tacos came out. Consistently solid service. Friendly bar n waitstaff. Extensive beer selection. Before 8pm tends to be a slightly older crowd (35-60ish) after that its more mid 20-upper 30s. They always have beer of the month specials 1.25 can 2.25 bottle n honestly forget draft (draft splits my head open next day). Food is good too, i suggest captain jarhead, jonboy or greek burger. Also no natter what you get i suggest you get a side if their coldhot dip to go with it. Its A-MAZ-ING. Nice large wrap around bar or floor seating available. Thursdays are trivia night (not to hard that that you gotta be a genius but not to easy where dummies need apply). Saturdays are live music. One side of bar adjacent is a bit louder for music while other facilitates comfortable talking environment. "Doc Watson's: Flavorful Foods and Spirits!" A rather bold claim for a dive bar, I had to see for myself. Tucked in a rather unappealing strip mall, apparently DW has been around ever since my friend's parents were in high school, so the establishment must be doing something right. Neither my friend nor I went for the alcohol, but we dived right into our dishes. The pseudo-healthy side of me dominated when it came to ordering so I ended up with a salmon, rice, and broccoli dish in front of me accompanied by garlic toast and a side salad. Considering it was bar food, it was quite delicious and the salmon was thick and juicy. Pretending to be a health nut, my friend opted for a side of broccoli... with his meatball sub. Fast eater that he's always been, I swear he just inhaled the sandwich seeing how it was gone faster than I had finished HALF of my own dish. Having perused the menu, I'm going to safely assume that most of the items are highly processed, but all that matters is whether or not it is pleasing to the palate, right? Another indication was the fact that our food came out rather quickly. By quickly, I meant that they arrived at our table faster than the time it took the Miami police to nail the robbery suspect involved in the high speed chase, the entertaining component to lunch. read more

It had been a looong time since we last came to Doc Watson's. We went around 7:30 or so on a recent Saturday evening for something to eat. Unlike the vast majority of similar places locally, there seemed to be plenty of staff which was clearly reflected in the service, which was very good. One of us ordered the grilled chicken sandwich, which used to be the go-to sandwich here. It did not disappoint - the chicken was very good, and the honey mustard is outstanding. The Cuban was also very good, and one that I would definitely order again. A very good bowl of chili - hearty, thick - not spicy (I like spicy and non-spicy). It's too bad Doc Watson's is not very convenient for us, otherwise we would be regulars. As it is, it is definitely worth a little extra drive. Seems like everywhere else in NW OH is struggling with staffing problems, consistency, etc....and maybe Doc's does too but it did not on this night. Looking forward to our next visit. read more

I am giving this place 2 stars, because the breakfast burritos were delicious. From a service standpoint, I was less than thrilled. I opted for the Bloody Mary bar... The first waitress we had took our order only for the drink portion. We made our drinks, and the cleanliness of the Bloody Mary station looked frightening, to say the least. There is no telling how long all of that stuff was sitting out. I gambled and lost with that one, because my stomach started turning later on in the day. I only got 2 bloody Mary's anyway; however, the second one was a direct result of me physically going to the bar, and telling the bartender I wanted another one. So disappointing. Now comes waitress number two... this person took our order... it took FOREVER to get the breakfast burritos... I was starving, ate them, and they were good. The presentation was awful. Overall, I will never go back to this place. It was dirty, condiment bottles were sticky, and the service was sad. read more

Food is good, beer selection is good for Toledo but what they market as a pint is really closer to 12 oz after accounting for the head on the beer. I've seen the servers stir the beer before walking to the table so the glass appears more full which is a shameful practice. I have been here a couple times. A good bar, lots of beer to choose from. However the seating is very cramped and nobody is there to tell you were to seat or a sign that says seat yourself. I stood there for 10 minutes before discovering I was supposed to seat myself. The bartender kept looking at us..but did not inform us. I really love this place and love taking friends/family here. This is somewhat of a hidden gem. It may not seem like much from the outside but the interior is intimate and cozy. They always have an awesome selection of beers on tap, monthly and daily specials, seasonal events, and pretty much any kind of food you're in the mood for. Doc Watson's is not too far from our house so we come here often. I love stopping for a bite to eat and a brew. I always have good service and the food is always great. It's a fun atmosphere for a group of friends or even just a dinner for two on a weekday. It's nothing fancy but it's better than your average bar. Doc Watson's is a go-to for me and my boyfriend. PS. I had the worst bowl of Beef Harvest canned soup today. It was like I was eating the can. Ordered Garlic Toast and it was one greasy slice of grilled sandwich bread NOT Texas Toast, with not the least bit of garlic. Doc Watson's is routinely SUPERB, but something is amiss in the kitchen on this particular visit. A group of us were planning to eat here tonight but after the...brutal tongue lashing I got from the manager, this older woman with cotton candy white hair and 2 black eyes told me I WOULD PAY FOR THE SOUP I didn't eat. She had this delight in her eyes like she was enjoying telling me I was stuck paying the bill. The 35 year old waitress who had 32" long light brown stringy hair was very unhappy with me telling her I could not eat the soup. I did not even mention it was warm not hot. I thought ordering something else would be apology enough for not liking the awful tepid gruel. These two women were very, very hateful to me. I left very hurt. I did not tip and I have cancelled our party of 8 for dinner following the Lights Before Christmas at the Toledo Zoo. I will never return. I look forward to speaking with the male owner. Doc's is our go-to neighborhood place for a quick meal and a beer, and we go there quite often with our daughter and her family. After reading some of the other reviews which are all over the place in ratings, I feel I should put in my 0.02. My husband loves the craft beer list. It changes often but he can always find a new one he wants to try. They have growlers now, but the growler prices are pretty high. They quoted him $35+ on a growler fill-up on the last beer he had there. We didn't fill up. The Oliver House Brew Pub's growlers run about $20 so this price seemed really excessive. Food quality is variable, depending on what you get. I've learned to stick with thr Doc Burger and my husband gets the fish and chips. These are safe and predictable. I got a baked potato a couple of months ago and it must have been in the oven for over 8 hours. It was shriveled up and it was almost impossible to cut through the skin to eat it. I should have sent it back. Stick with the basics on food and you should be okay. One beef I have is the small plastic plates that don't give you a whole lot of room to maneuver your food around to cut into it. OTOH, they keep the portion sizes reasonable so you don't deal with a ridiculous mountain of food you can't eat. The plates are OLD, guys. You need to pony up for some real plates. Go to the bargain bin at the Libbey Glass outlet and load up. Anything is an improvement. You will be supporting the local economy instead of that of melamine manufacturers. I gave the review a "3" as the positives (beer list) outweighed the unpredictable food problems. If you go there mostly for the beer list, you will not be disappointed, as they have one of the largest selections of craft beers in South Toledo. read more
