The first stop on our West Virginia road trip was the carefully planned out stop: Dobra Zupas ( I researched this trip for months). I would say this was as solid as it comes for any restaurant. Pros: - The building. As a Savannah, GA native (more or less) I can appreciate a historic building. Absolutely love the vibe inside and out. - Their fries are top notch. Great Greek seasoning on these bad boys and very hot coming out. Some of the better fries I've had in my life. - Grilled Chicken Sandwich. There's a spot in Savannah, GA called "Clary's" that had a grilled chicken sandwich and they took it off their menu a few years back. One of my favorite chicken sandwiches; Dobra Zupas is pretty close to that one. A perfect "diner" style chicken sandwich. - Wait Staff. Top Notch. After having a rather bad wait staff for my last review, this one made me feel comfortable and not rushed nor in the way. - Fried Goat Cheese was amazing. I've never had anything like it. Cons: - Pizza was so-so. You really don't go to a Greek restaurant and order pizza, but it was alright. Definition of okay. I really enjoyed my stop through here. You can tell they put a lot of effort into this being a great restaurant and it comes through. The building and how unexpected it is to come across (you Google Map a restaurant and are kinda shocked when you come across it) is cool. Well, my unnecessary hours of researching restaurants for West Virginia was successful for Day One because Dobra Zupas was a fun find. Very glad I came and would definitely recommend it. read more

Family owned coffee place with a small, but very good menu. I got a rice dish and it was well seasoned and had fresh ingredients. The coffee was the best I've ever had. Bar none. and I have had coffee from all over the world. I'll be back the next time I am in the area. read more

I loved that I could get two vegetables! My husband got the coffee-rubbed ribeye. So tender and tasty. We tried a couple beers. They were good. Dobra Zupas was a great choice for celebrating with large family, including 6 kids, at a casual but nice dinner. We booked the upstairs private room for a 60th birthday party for 20 people at 5pm. The owner, Rebecca, was very accommodating even though we called on Wednesday for a Saturday dinner during Valentine's Day weekend. They were also very flexible and allowed us to order off the normal menu vs their set Valentine's menu. And we sent in our orders in advance to help their planning and pacing from the kitchen. I was surprised that they only sent one person for our group, which meant that dishes weren't all served at the same time, but we still were able to eat by 5:45. The best dishes from the night: - Sriracha rubbed rib eye : was perfectly seasoned and cooked - Crab risotto (1/2) with asparagus: well cooked and satisfying - 12 wings with Carolina bbq sauce : tasty, slightly sweet, with a little spice - Grilled Salmon with asparagus: cooked well, wasn't dry, and it was a filling but not too heavy meal I had the special Vday Scallops with kale & roasted potatoes - the scallops and potatoes were well cooked (not overcooked at all) with a subtle lemon aioli sauce, but the kale was slightly over salted for me. read more

This is a great spot for a quick bite or even a longer sit down dinner. The restaurant is actually in a craftsman style home, which further sets it apart from the run of the mill restaurant. And although it's in an area where there really are not any other restaurants, it seems just right. Service is prompt, attentive, and the server knew the menu well. We had some dietary restrictions, but didn't feel limited as the server was good about communicating with the kitchen and providing us options. The food is on the higher end, but tasted fresh, with satisfying flavors and portions. Surprisingly this place could accommodate larger parties and even has a bar with an ample selection of beers and wines. They must be making a name for themselves with craft beer too, as I saw a few people come in just to by the specialty 6-packs. read more

My wife, daughter and I were spending the weekend in the area and went to this restaurant after reading some reviews. After being seated, we proceeded to wait 20 minutes before anyone came to take drink orders (requested water for each of us, never happened..). Finally ordered entrees. This is not an exaggeration, the entrees were served 90 minutes after we walked into the restaurant! Was the food worth waiting for, no way! My "Thai" chicken wrap had no trace of the peanut sauce shown on the menu, and a majority of the fries were an inch or less long. The ends of the piece of salmon that came with my wife's salad were as crispy as the chips! At least my daughter enjoyed her burger. The ambiance of this place was nice, I'll give them that. Service was OK but can't let the kitchen slide. My family tried this place for dinner on 10/22. I ordered the coffee rubbed ribeye but they served me the Sriracha ribeye. Mistakes are understood, but the shameful part is that they took my wrong steak back to the kitchen, then moments later brought out the same exact steak with added spices and lied to me saying it was a freshly prepared steak on hand "meant for another table." It was the SAME steak as it could be identified by a cut I made to taste it before sending back to the kitchen. It was an unbelievable experience and the kitchen has no concept of major reputation risk. They did comp my meal as it was the clear only option at that point. read more

Briefly: Average. Not bad, but not stellar. I have started to travel to this area a lot for work, and love supporting local businesses and finding hidden gems. Was excited when this popped up and I read the reviews, so had reasonable, but great, expectations. I was disappointed, and my feelings match those before me that gave it an average review. You will have an average meal experience and will be okay coming back, but you'll be likely not to rave about it and hurry back. I arrived around 6:45 and was seated immediately. The restaurant was 80% full and remained so throughout my time there. It took 15 minutes for me to be acknowledged. My server, a young man, came over and he apologized for the delayed. He had brought me water and asked if I was ready to order. No welcome, introduction, or query of I had any questions. I never knew his name. I asked for a diet coke and what the soup of the day was. He told me they were all out of soup. I ordered the blackened catfish po-boy with dill sauce and fries since they were out of soup. Ten minutes later, my diet coke arrived. 30 minutes later my food arrived. It looked fine, but lacked the blackened color (brown-black) - it was more of a very light brown and the the Cajun spices were light on flavor as well. The food was fine, but not impressive enough to make me tell other people to try it (like The Dish in Daniels, WV). My server came by once to ask if all was okay. My server did bring me another diet coke, but after it was empty for a while. Both my drinks arrived 2/3 full. I rarely saw him, so it was difficult to wave him down. I also had a glass of water and I had kind of given up on good customer service. I was ready to move on. It was a unique cold day in the 30s, and I don't think the heat was on. The restaurant is in an old house, so it's probably lacking insulation. Also, it's loud. Not that I would want it, but there is no carpet to absorb sound. Because it's loud, people talk loud to hear each other. So don't go for a quiet dinner. The only thing timely that happened was when I gave my credit card to my server. He was gone and back in a flash. It threw me off and wasn't representative of any of the time leading up to it. Overall, I would come here again, but not rush to it. The food is average and the service could be better, more attentive. My server was not rude, but could be more of an extrovert since he is in a people-serving field, more attentive, and speak louder since it's a loud place. To compare, I went to the chain Outback the night before. I was tired, it was across from my hotel, and I know what to expect. My food was good, but my server was incredible. I never felt ignored and she made sure I was taken care of through and through, including keeping my drink full and updating me on the status of my food and ticket. read more

Visiting the area and intentionally looked for something local over a chain and stumbled upon Dobra Zupas. Very glad we stopped here. From the outside, the place is very unassuming, as it is in an old house, but inside is charming. I ordered the appetizer of wings as my meal with fries and my husband had a Ruben with fries. The wings were perfectly cooked with a crispy skin and the sauce was great. My husband really enjoyed his sandwich as well. Great spot for lunch and really happy we stopped in. This place is off the beaten path, but WELL worth it. We came just after lunch, around 1:15, and there were only a few other parties. We bucked the reviews and got the Goat Cheese dip - fantastic. It came with Jalapeño jelly and red peppers. We couldn't decide on drinks so the waitress sold us on a flight which allowed us to sample their local stuff. The beer was decent, flavor was awesome, carbonation was a little low. The Catfish Po'Boy was huge and perfectly cooked. Even the fries were just unique enough to stand out. We found this place on yelp and we were really hoping to like it. The setting is an old house turned into a restaurant and it is beautiful! However, our experience was a total bust. We were so disappointed after driving 4 hours from Columbus. We were staying in Beckley to go to The Greenbrier Classic on Friday. There was only one girl who was working and she had absolutely no help (not her fault). However, it took over 20 mins to just order our drinks. I ordered a vodka soda and my husband a beer from their own draft beer. They could not find soda water so again, another 20 mins went by and still no drink. I have to be careful when ordering food due to dietary restrictions. I asked if I could add plain chicken to the large garden salad, but unfortunately, the chicken is marinated and they could not just grill a plain chicken breast? My husband orders the pepperoni pizza. To top it off there was a TV in the bar area with the BBC showing the life of larva of an insect; totally disgusting and not what I want to watch while eating. She did change the channel immediately when asked. The waitress again was very pleasant, but she was the only person handling the whole house. Update on the food...the salad was terrible. It was bag lettuce which has preservatives and tastes terrible. Not to mention will turn my stomach inside out in a hurry. Upon arriving, we were greeted by our waitress Rachel. She was extremely nice and helpful, and set us up with water and some sample beer choices. Star of our lunch on 11/26/19 was the Bleu Turkey - turkey, bacon, apple slices, bleu cheese dressing - a gourmet arrangement on an unexpected "Dutch Crunch" ciabatta bread. On a fall motorcycle ride to see the foliage. Got here just 30 min before closing on a Sunday. Brunch menu only at the time. Very friendly although I wouldn't have blamed them if they turned us away due to near closing time of 2 on Sunday. We had the deep fried feta cheese as an appetizer, it was fantastic. Will probably get 2 orders next time, the pepper jelly was a great touch. My wife had the biscuits and gravy and was very satisfied. I chose eggs Benedict. The Hollandaise sauce was excellent . It was some of the best eggs Benedict I've had. Had hash browns as the side and bacon. I'm not much of a potato guy but these were especially tasty. We will definitely return.
