Nifty little place we decided to give a try as we were passing through town. It's been in operation since 1941 and has been serving great food ever since. I'm not a big bbq fan but the food was very enjoyable. We tried to the 2 meat and 3 meat plates. The people behind the calendar were very, very nice and inviting. I love their jalapeño cheddar sausage and their loaded baked potatoes. That, to me, is worth the money. I can get where people are saying it is a little steep, because it is, but it is good to have a barbeque place in the area. The people who worked there had some issues with the cash register, but I do not hold that against them, they had recently started working there and needed help, and nobody was helping them. Order - Plate of beef, brisket, pork ribs, two sides, pickles, roll. None of the sides are made in-house. It all comes to restaurant premade in cans and containers. So sad and pathetic that these kinds of practices are considered a "restaurant". I went with the two "safest" sides on the menu. Sides were french fries and coleslaw (The cabbage and dressing comes to the restaurant separate and they mix it together, so at least it was a little safer than just scooping coleslaw out of a plastic bucket). Pork ribs fell off the bone. Both brisket and ribs were overcooked. When my tray came to the register, it was missing the roll and pickles and sent back. When the tray came back it was missing the pickles and I just let it go. They obviously have issues with details. Roll was like it had taken right out of the bag and placed on the tray. It was not warmed or toasted. Both the original and spicy barbecue sauces were overly sweet. Just another sad, low quality restaurant chain. Tables and bathroom were clean. read more

On project in Beckley. Trying to stay away from the chain restaurants back home in Jersey, so why not try Dickey's. I had high expectations for this place, but I am well traveled including states like North Carolina and North New Jersey where I come from holds our own. The Mac and cheese was good, not watery.. the way I like it. Probably the best part of my meal. When I saw the staff take the meat out from the holding area, I knew it may be trouble. The brisket was dry in many places and the ribs itself were dry in many places. I had the two meat option, and it came with two pieces of ribs. I had their original sauce on the side, I know what you will say-- why not put some sauce on it, my question to you, why does the meat sit in their holding area long enough to dry up and make for a poor experience. On the way through this nice little town, we stopped over at Dickey's. I was craving their spicy sausage but sadly I for me, they were out of it. Have no fear my food loving fanatics, the manager gave me the regular sausage and a small side. He also apologized for being out of the spicy sausage with his slow and sweet (southern?) drawl. I graciously thanked him, paid, and pulled over the the parking lot and scarfed down the entire thing. Seriously recommend for good, fast, affordable food with a side of amazing service. read more

Long time customer and now delivery driver rolled up on this place and boy was that a mistake not only did they refuse to do the order twice by saying it would be 30 more minutes but as I sit there and watch multiple customers come in then leave in the unfortunate time I had to sit there which was roughly 40 mins waiting on support but they completely ignore deliveries. If you are an avid user of apps to get their food delivered just don't use this place. I know they lost my business for life now and you wonder why all the other stores have went out of business. Not bad, but not great. Brisket and pulled pork were tasty and moist, but served warm, not fresh piping hot. Roll was a total downer, bland and flavourless. Baked potato casserole was pretty solid, with a loaded potato flavour highlighted by bacon. The baked beans were ordinary but still solid with a very slight spice kick. The sauces were pretty good, thin, but not overly vinegary. I mixed 3/4 sweet with 1/4 spicy and was happy with the kick I got. Not too harsh, but definitely improved the meats' flavours. The restaurant is neat and clean and the staff are pleasant. Kitchy decor surrounds with pictures of the history of Dickey's. Apparently, they've been BBQ since 1941 from what I read. I can only say that I left unimpressed. I expected far more, but the food here is mediocre at best. read more

I lived in Texas for quite a while, and in Texas Dickey's BBQ wouldn't be considered one of the best. There are just too many small local unbelievable BBQ joints all over the state. But I was very pleasantly surprised with the BBQ here at Dickey's in Beckley. The brisket was very flavorful and tender with a little crust around it, and brisket is the hardest thing to cook properly. The ribs were very tender with a nice smoke ring. One of the better chain food joints out there. Wife, daughter, and I stopped here for lunch while driving around West Virginia. The daughter wanted mac and cheese... and I wanted some smoked meat. The place was clean and the people were prompt and friendly. The soda machine was out of ice, but not a huge worry as I don't like a few sips of tea with a cup of ice anyways. The wife ordered smoked chicken and cheese tacos. The chicken was moist and had a decent smoke flavor. She enjoyed them. Daughter got the kids place with mac and cheese and brisket. She ate fairly well and said she liked it. It also came with a buttered roll which wasn't very good. I got the brisket sandwich with cole slaw and fried okra. I like that like most BBQ joints you add the sauce. The wife at my cole slaw and is picky about it as it's one of her favorite sides. She housed it. The fried okra was really good as well. For a chain you can't do much better. It's not going to win awards for BBQ, but is better than some sit down and order from a waitress BBQ joints. read more
