I have come to the Aiea Dixie Grill a few times now, so I'd better write a review. Overall, the place is a well-worn watering hole for folks looking for a drink and some decent BBQ. They have outdoor and indoor seating, and I can imagine, it must get rowdy sometimes considering their bar location and menu. I've only been here for lunch though, and they have some pretty decent BBQ for the price. On my latest venture (today) I had the brisket sandwich and a side of fries. The sandwich itself comes with an overflowing amount of meat, a said of pickles, and enough coleslaw to spread on the sandwich. The waffle fries were nice and crispy, not greasy, and piping hot. You get your choice of 6 sauces on the table to add some spice to your meal. They also have one meat and two meat plates with a generous heap of each meat, the prickles, and coleslaw. Others at my table had the Brussels sprouts, which were roasted with bacon. Everyone recommended getting them the next time. Sweet tea is standard fare, but you can also get unsweetened tea in a big old 24 oz. cup. The wait staff is very friendly and helpful. Overall, a good experience and a place I'd come back to. read more

Stopped in for dinner because we live the area and drive by often. The parking was great no problem finding a spot at all. Walk in to a laid back feeling spot, seat yourself style. The food came out fast, ordered the buffalo fries, which if you like blue cheese and buffalo wings are so good, fries not soggy, generous blue cheese crumbles. My husband got the 2 meat plate which he enjoyed, meatloaf was especially good, brussels were delicious. I got the killer crab cobb, very good and large portion. He ended up getting a slice of key lime pie which he liked a lot. Overall, food was good, parking was good, and service was good no complaints. Eh. The Cajun calamari, it wasn't chewy, like most places. Unfortunately the " Jumbo" lump crab cakes were not jumbo. They were thin and not as I'd anticipated. The coleslaw.. right when the food was dropped off, I smelled an odor..like something was past due. I took a bite of the coleslaw and immediately knew..I'm getting a stomach ache later. Came here for lunch with friends and ordered a salad, keeping it light since I had a big dinner later. While the salad tasted good, the portion was small for the price, and my friends even noticed that mine looked smaller than another friend's who ordered the same thing. A few of us were still waiting for our food long after others had finished. We politely asked another server about the delay since our original server was hard to find. She reassured us it was on its way, and it did arrive a few minutes later. Then, a different staff member came by to explain that our food was delayed because the orders were placed at different times. This was confusing since we ordered one after another, even if we were a large group. His explanation felt unnecessary, almost as if we had complained when we hadn't. Second time coming here, still a happy camper. Big fan on the brussel sprouts, slight tangy and crispy! The catfish was really moist and fresh catch tasting. Pulled brisket sandwich wasn't so dry either, had fun trying out their 6 different sauce and I must say the Hawaiian one won me over. Fries were okay, nothing too crazy or out of the ordinary. Both visits I've ordered the strawberry Texas lemonade and spot on same delicious taste, the new appetizer though... must've been a different cook cause we both agreed it wasn't the same. We've been here a few times as a party of 3 and have had no issues. 2 stars because the food and drinks ARE good We decided to Friday Pau Hana as a party of 5 and truthfully, they were busy enough that they probably didn't need my money anyway when I walked out with it Not sure if the girl in the pink t-shirt and dark hair up in a claw clip on Friday night 3/28 is new to the industry or what, but 5 people don't fit in a 4 top BOOTH. She didn't offer to bring an extra chair or anything, just stared at the Mister still standing there while she's holding the menus and not even wondering why he wasn't sitting down He had to ASK her for a bigger table to which she replied, "I can get you a bigger seat if that's what you want". Ma'am, what? That's what we Need. She confers with another server and then takes us outside to the picnic table closest to the road. Which we were not opposed to, except that the seats were wet from the rain. She dropped the menus on the table and walked away. We watched her go, thinking she's gonna get a rag to wipe down the table bench? Nope. Just went about wandering around trying to look busy. So we left. And no one said a thing watching what would have been a pretty fat tab with drinks and decent tip money walk right out the door. She could probably be re-trained, but it's more likely a huge lack in common sense. read more

I've always had great luck with the servers every time I've been here. They're consistently friendly and attentive. My favorite appetizer is the frickles, especially since a lot of places only serve the chip version instead of spears. The restaurant usually has a decent crowd, and since it shares parking with other spots, it can get pretty full later in the evening. Whiskey Dix is located upstairs, so keep that in mind when planning your visit. I wouldn't call this a go-to for Southern food, especially recently. When I last went in August, the pigtails mac and cheese was so good. It was cheesy, flavorful, and worth the $20 price. I went back this month and it was almost completely different. There was barely any cheese and it felt like I was eating buttered noodles. Apparently, the only change was removing the bleu cheese, but that alone shouldn't have made the dish fall flat. It was disappointing, especially considering the price. It's unfortunate because I've really enjoyed coming here in the past for the grilled lemonade and the fun, lively atmosphere. I'm embarrassed to say that I've passed this Aiea restaurant for over 8 years after moving back to HI and never checked it out until today. Not sure why being that I love southern cuisine, but I'm glad I did. If you're traveling Ewa on Kam Hwy from Aloha Stadium or exiting Moanalua Fwy, Dixie Grill is going to come up pretty quick on the mauka side. Skip the first driveway entrance if you value your vehicle's air dam as it has a pretty sharp incline. Take the second driveway instead. Now, if you're traveling from Pearlridge side heading Diamond Head, there is no left turn into the restaurant. Instead, you need to get over onto Moanalua Road and turn right onto Nalopaka Place after Alvah Scott Elementary School and it will dead end into the restaurant's parking lot. Ample paved parking by the way. Walking in the door, there was a sign at the hostess stand telling us to sit anywhere we like. We headed into the dining room fronting Kam Hwy and picked a booth. There were about a half-dozen tables occupied when we entered around 11:30 a.m. on Sunday. The dining area appeared clean with a fun and upbeat crab shack-esque decor. Background noise level was comfortable for conversation. We chose a booth to sit at and were quickly greeted by our server with a basket of popcorn to munch on and presented with menus and our drink order taken. The wall facing Kam Hwy consists of 2 rollup transparent garage doors flanked on either side by plate glass windows. During this visit, both of the doors were rolled up, so the dining room was open-air so to speak and not air-conditioned. Despite being in the mid 80s outside when we walked in, we were comfortable throughout our visit. The rollup doors reveal the restaurant's additional patio dining area and a cute play area to keep your preschool or early elementary school aged children occupied while they're waiting on their food. Prices were in the $15 to $25 range, which is in keeping with other local family dining sit-downs. My wife ordered the Pulled Pork sandwich ($15) and I ordered the Cuban sandwich ($16.50). Both sandwiches came with a choice of side. My wife went with the waffle fries, and I chose coleslaw. Our order came out within a reasonable time, and I love how they were served on a metal cookie sheet. We agreed that our sandwiches were delicious, and I especially enjoyed the coleslaw, which had a nice little kick. Great idea to have the paper towel dispenser on the table too as those sandwiches kept us licking our fingers. It was a great experience overall, and definitely one to add to our list of frequent stops. By the way, if you forgot to try dessert, check out Ryders Poke and Shave Ice shop next door. We found this place on a fluke and boy am I glad we did. We were crunch for time so we decided just to get something quick to go. Appetizers it was. We arrived in the middle of the day and wasn't busy at all which is super surprising once we tasted the food. We ordered at the Bar since we were getting it togo. Not much interaction or customer service I will say but wasn't rude, The bartender just wasn't friendly and only attended if we asked. Food came out about 10 mins after ordering, so not much of a wait. we decided to eat at the car since we needed to get some food in us and the food we chose was not drive and eat friendly. Stuffed Brisket Potato Skins: 10/10 Oh my the meat was so tender the flavors were perfect together. make sure you grab plenty of napkins because it was messy but very worth it. Brisket sandwich: 10/10 again flavor was on point. The BBQ sauce was tasty and I'm not a fan of everybody's BBQ sauce. I wish we could of came back to this place and enjoyed more of their food. We were getting our car tinted so decided to eat here while we waited. The server was really nice and accommodating. We sat outside in the shade and it was nice they had a hand washing station outside. They have bathrooms inside which are very nice and clean so that is a plus. My favorites were the Thai chili oil Brussels sprouts, beer battered onion rings and the smoked Mac and cheese. Although my boyfriend and I both agree the Mac and cheese could have had a little more sauce and the noodles were slightly over cooked it was still one of our favorites. The meatloaf was well... meatloaf can't go wrong, was a little on the dry side. My boyfriend said the brisket was really good but something about it to me seemed just okay. The coleslaw was a waste of a side it just tasted like soggy cabbage from the bag so in the future we'd double up on the Brussels. The onions rings were good and so was the sauce for them, they had the perfect batter to onion ratio. They also give you 6 (house made??!) sauces for your bbq. It was an all and all good experience with some yummy food. Will definitely be going back now that we know what and what not to order. Dixie Grill was busy tonight. There was about a 20 to 30 minute wait for seating. Hubby and I decided to eat at the bar instead of waiting for a table. Which was fine. Our server was Kim. She was funny. I started off with a Bahama mama and hubby had sweet tea. I ordered the fried catfish with baked beans and Mac and Cheese. Hubby ordered the meat sandwich with fries. The food came out quickly. It was hot. My fish was crisp. It just needed a little more seasoning or salt. We talked to the manager. He checked on us during our visit. Awesome grindz people. The ambiance here is different. It's fun & the food is muy tasty. My 2 choices on the menu was brisket & pulled pork, baked beans, & mac n cheese. They serve ono alcohol drinks & when you order a certain drink (forgot the name) they ring a bell at the bar. You can even buy the cooks a drink for their hard work. But what I admired the most was how my server carried himself. His name was Lurán, sounds like Duran Duran When a server bends down to my level to give the specials/take my order, it is so professional to me. I've been to high end restaurants & had servers do that but at Dixie Grill, it was just so professional & genuine that he did that. The restaurant has a nice southern US feel when you walk in. Completely hidden if you don't know where it is. My dude was military and they do serve many military so no local rates. There is a very large outdoor seating (covered) area. Paper towels for you to use for messy paws. The lemonade was fantastic. My dude had a sweet tea and said it was great. The come in huge stein glasses and do charge for refills. The food was overwhelmingly salty. Dude had the pulled pork sandwich and I had a Philly. Taste was great, just a ton of salt. We did go on a week day so perhaps that was it, or the chef was just generous that day but it was almost inedible for me and my dude, hence the 4 stars and not 5. Service was friendly and attentive. On holidays, I try to make the most of the day off by usually spending time with either family or friends. On this recent MLK, several friends and I decided to dine at Dixie Grill (DG). I've been to their Ward location multiple times many blue moons ago but never made it to their Aiea location. I was running errands all morning and had myself start off in Chinatown and then to Kaneohe. I made my way over to Aiea via H-3 and would have easily gotten lost. Thank goodness for GPS. I had arrived just a few mins before opening time of 11am, where I saw Auntie (Nadine C.) and Donna O. standing at the entrance waiting for them to open. I used the waiting time studying the food menu. I really enjoyed the atmosphere. We were greeted by a friendly, tall gentlemen. He welcomed us and I made my way over to my friends, who were deciding either inside or outside seating. It was quite a warm morning, so my friends chose indoors and settled for a padded booth. We were welcomed by 2 wait staff who provided us with complimentary basket of popcorn and took our drinks order. I had studied the menu in the car prior to restaurant opening and saw the shrimp po' boy sandwich, but it was an old pic (7 yrs ago). I didn't see it on the current menu but checked with the staff and unfortunately po' boys are currently not a daily menu item but is offered as a daily special every so often. I ended up getting Country Fried Steak with mashed potatoes + gravy and cornbread casserole as my sides, plus an unsweetened tea. The restaurant was on the empty side, so it didn't take that long for our food to come out. Once we took our photos, it was finally time to dig in. THE VERDICT: I had high expectations for DG as this Aiea location has been in business for over 20 years. I loved the presentation but mixed feelings on the food. For starters, my main dish lacked taste. The chicken fried steak was served hot, which is a plus in my books, but clearly the dish lacked salt. It's sad when the chef forgets to properly season the protein prior to cooking and after sprinkling some salt over deep fried foods. The gravy also lacked flavor, so I used the BBQ sauces on the table that came with my friend's brisket sandwiches. The sauces tasted great, but it didn't pair well with my chicken fried steak. I loved the mashed potatoes and gravy. The cornbread casserole was also delicious, but it was too rich and heavy. After a couple of bites of the cornbread, I tapped out. I was craving for something sweet and saw key lime pie and buttermilk pie on the menu. I asked the staff about the buttermilk pie and compared it like custard pie. For those who know me well, I'm a fan of key lime pie but I just had to give the buttermilk pie. The buttermilk pie hit the spot. It had a richness that made it a dessert and the mild taste was offset with a berry sauce for sweet and tart contrast. Service was above average. Staff were both friendly and periodically checked in with us. Our water glasses were refilled and brought boxes for our leftovers. Separate checks were also arranged for our group. Overall, a pleasant lunch with friends celebrating MLK holiday and wouldn't hesitate to come back again. I am hoping this time I'll be lucky where po' boy will be their daily special. This review is based on my takeout experience. Ordering over the phone was a breeze. The lady on the phone who took my order was friendly. And the wait time for my takeout order was reasonable. This is my go to spot whenever I'm craving SOUTHERN FRIED CATFISH. This is the only restaurant that I've found on the island that knows how to prepare this dish just right! Their fried catfish is cornmeal breaded giving it a light, crisp crust that covers a very tender and moist catfish. Absolute perfection! Their catfish alone was enough to keep me as a return customer, but then the side dishes I ordered just brought it over the top! I ordered the BRUSSEL SPROUTS and CORNBREAD CASSEROLE. What a dynamic duo! The brussel sprouts were caramelized and had a hint of sweetness to them. This was so tasty you may forget you're eating vegetables. The cornbread casserole was also a winner! It had bits of whole corn within it and was very moist. It was almost like eating a very flavorful, moist cake. Except it's not cake, but cornbread. Entree was reasonably priced. I guess the revisionist renaming trend hasn't caught up to Hawaii yet, and that's a good thing. Imagine if a few of our monarchs were cancelled. The cost of street signage changes alone would probably cost more than the rail project. Dixie has become associated with the South and particularly the South in its heyday of slavery. Whistling Dixie is analogous to unrealistic fantasizing. How can a song which purportedly has 32 verses be so bad? Dixie isn't a bad word to me. And the Dixie Grill isn't a bad place. Is it ironic or political blasphemy that we dined there on the MLK holiday? When I pulled up into the parking lot at 10:59 am, I was surprised to see 10 people waiting for the doors to open. When the doors were opened, it was by a super tall guy sprouting a long gray beard which would have made ZZ Top look like whiskered infants. The four in our party were shown to our inside table, while the waiting others took their seats outside and the waiting regulars took their seats at the bar. We received a plate of popcorn. I ordered a brisket sandwich because I am partial to barbecued brisket. It wasn't bad ... a little dry. The French fries were good. The Diet Coke was ok. And no, my camera didn't eat first this time. Lunch on a holiday... Martin Luther King, Jr. was born in Atlanta, Georgia. My friends suggested that we have "Southern Cuisine" to commemorate the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday. We thought that Dixie Grill would have the cuisine closest to Southern Style. Dixie Grill in Aiea, O'ahu, Hawaii is located on the right side of Kamehameha Highway as you're driving from Honolulu towards Pearlridge Center. We all must have passed by many times, but have never been there before. It is an open air restaurant with outdoor seating - besides indoor booths with views of big screen televisions and a bar. It has country type of decor - kind of Americana-ish. Service was friendly and efficient. We were served fresh popcorn right away as we perused the menu. I decided on the Brisket Sandwich and French fries. It came with a few pickle slices and a small container of coleslaw. Everything was just okay. Maybe I should get the catfish or ribs next time? Brisket was fatty, and the presentation of the food was poor to marginal at best, especially for what you're paying. Haven't been here in over 5 years. Dill pickle spears are still great. Calamari is thickly breaded but tasty. Snow crab is tasty, and that sm portion was $25, not too bad. Dry rub on ribs is spicy. However, it is really good, especially with Memphis BBQ sauce. Didn't really care for the taste & texture of the grits but did enjoy the mashed potato side. Service was really good, however a little slow. We did appreciate our waitress bc it wasn't 100% full but did have at least 4 tables full. I'm sad they didn't have Blue Moon on tap as well as their Gumbo that used to be on the menu. I understand post Covid menu and staffing changes. I got brisket and pulled pork. Pulled pork was a bit dry and tough. The brisket has potential but it was bland. It was moist but it needed some kind of seasoning. The food needs salt. The brisket would have been awesome if it was seasoned enough but unfortunately it was lacking. Service was great.. walked in and a waitress helped not very long after and my food was out within minutes. The price wasn't too bad. Paid about $30 for the 3 meat plate... I spent almost double that recently for bbq on a trip to San Antonio. The place itself is more like a bar. I feel like it would be a nice place to go with some friends and have some drinks. Overall I personally would not go back but that's only because I'm never in aiea and only reason I went there was because I wanted a good brisket and they had some good reviews but it lacked seasoning. I never felt inclined to visit due to its location, unassuming exterior, and the fact I don't normally go for barbecue or southern-inspired food. It wasn't until my Stepdad came to visit me that I was influenced to check it out. With his family being from the south and the fact that he's a fan of this type of food it was a no-brainer he'd be the perfect company! We planned to drop in during their happy hour which runs daily from 3:00-6:00 p.m. When we arrived (on a weekend afternoon) the restaurant was quiet and not too crowded. We were immediately given the option to sit either inside or outside--we chose to sit inside. The open-aired restaurant, humid weather, and southern-inspired decor transported me back to the south! It was a little getaway for both of us that brought us joy! When we sat down we were met with complimentary popcorn and a smile. Our waitress went over both the happy hour and the regular menu. My Stepdad opted for the Smoked Pork Poutine while I got a side of the Brussel Sprouts. It took quite some time for our food and beverages to come out which wasn't an issue as our waitress was working the entire front. Just be mindful that service can be slow. When we got into our food we were both pleasantly surprised! My Brussel Sprouts were a mix of sweet and spicy. They're flash fried and drenched in a sweet chili glaze, an interesting Asian-style twist. My Stepdad enjoyed his poutine which looked decadently delicious. Dixie Grill is located off of Kamehameha Highway with a parking lot out in front. It's a one-of-a-kind restaurant serving southern-inspired food and drinks. When we arrived for lunch the place was pretty busy. When we walked in it was noticeable that they were very short staff for waitresses but the ones that were there were flying around like crazy trying to get everybody's orders done. We were seated by the hostess very quickly and got a table that was near the doors for outside.. It was a little warm inside now I wish I would have taken a table outside it would have been cooler. They did have their fans going but it still was still a little warm for make. Nancy was our waitress. She's very dedicated old school kind of waitress that took our order and knew her business and knew how to get it done quickly. I kind of missed those solid servers from years ago.. She took her orders and ran off to the kitchen and filled it right away. Everyone that helped the table was very very helpful indeed. Need. They made sure that we had water they brought a basket of popcorn while we waited for our food so it was very nice . Good service. I ordered the poutine for lunch because I rarely ever get to see it listed on a menu and it was delicious you can tell by the photograph below. It was definitely sort of throwback to the South when I was in the military and the roadside diners that made killer food the made killer food would put out everything you needed and it was decorated in a fun way on the inside. The service is awesome! All the staff is great, manager is awesome at taking care of multiple groups at the same time, and I just loved the hostess. Was passing through town when I wandered on this place. It was amazing like I love lemonade and they're lemonade is just the right sour just the right sweet ratio. All the food is amazing but I was in love with a brisket. Definitely fulfilling definitely delicious definitely flavorful and reasonably priced. We had late lunch on Sunday and the restaurant was pretty empty. Ordered our usual Frickles (fried pickles) that come with a delicious dipping sauce. We usually get the bbq plates but today we tried their burgers I chose to build my own burger; cheese bacon & avocado He got the big ed which was brisket, bacon, cheddar & grilled onions I also had a roasted lemonade. I mopped my burger real quick but he didn't really enjoy the big ed. Frickles were on point as usual. read more

Shrimp smelled rotten. Someone said it was steamed, then they said it was fried. Good vibes for family, they have a small playground.

Good food, good service, nice location and fair prices. Everything came out quickly and as ordered. Service was good drinks were cold and refilled as needed. No complaints here can't wait to try more. Aloha! read more
