Bottom Line Up Front: Won't be returning based solely on my interaction with the owner/manager after finishing my meal. Went with a friend to what was suppose to be a "cute" brunch spot. Upon arrival, were given a 20 min wait time that ended up being 40. We checked in twice to make sure we were still on the list and were promised that we were next to be seated. Wasn't too upset until the owner justified our delay by telling us that all her tables cleared up at once. Nice try, but it really wasn't the case. Strike 1. Order our food. Went with the Huevos Rancheros Grande. My only complaint would be if you're gonna call something "grande", I'm expecting a large portion, specially at $13. After one bite the owner walks by and without even stopping asks us how our food was, says "Yum?" and walks away. Not the worst, but a little annoying since I was gonna ask for a coffee refill (by the way, server hasn't been back to the table since taking our order). I finish first and my friend, who ordered a breakfast burrito, is literally only halfway done with his meal and still eating. Server takes my plate and asks my friend if he'd like a box for his food. My friend says he's still working on it and he'll think about it. The server's response? "So.... no box?" My friend had to repeat himself that he was still eating and would need a minute. Strike 2. A few minutes later, the server returns and asks if we would like one check or two. He finishes his own question with "One?" I tell him, no, two please. Server promptly returns with two check books. My friend is still eating his food, and I still haven't gotten my coffee refill. At one point, I was contemplating getting a mimosa, or dessert, but my appetite is gone at this point and I just want to get out of this place. My friend finally finishes and someone else stops by to get the checkbooks. I ask for more coffee and she happily serves us. She gives us our cards back and I decide to relay my experience to the owner. Not in a aggravated or rude sort of way, but just in a sort of "heads up: I didn't have the best experience here and I thought I'd let you know". I get to the host stand and ask for the manager. She comes out and I relay my experience to her. I let her know that I felt rushed as a customer and didn't have the best customer experience. The owner (who has her arms folded across her chest the entire time I'm talking to her), proceeds to tell ME that I'M wrong, and that the server didn't mean that at all. The owner claimed she knows the server and he would never intend to be dismissive or rush us. Yet here I am telling you that is how I, the paying customer, felt. She tries to deflate my argument by showing me the waiting area (which at this very movement had JUST become cleared of people) and saying, "well, its not like we needed your table". She proceeds to ask me if I've ever been in "the industry", I say yes, but I got out. She retorts with "well, then you know how difficult it can be to manage the timing of the guest with service. We want to give out customers a chance to talk without pestering them. Besides, I asked you how your food was and you said everything was great" (WHICH I DID NOT!) Strike 3. Long story short, I feel like this local hot spot has gotten it claim to fame simply by being the only place in town. It's easy to be a big fish in a small pond when there's no one to compete with. Went here on Mother's Day and thought it was great. We had to wait about 15 minutes for a table, which was expected on Mother's Day. I had breakfast which consisted of eggs, bacon and pancakes. Everything was cooked very well. My only complaint is that it took FOREVER to get extras like button, cream for the coffee, etc. We had to ask three different people. I grew up in Windermere and my parents still live there. This was the post office and later the Ready Market when I was growing up. It is nice to see a breakfast restaurant in this quaint little town. If they would work on their service a bit, it was be a great place. read more

After eating here several more times, they have never failed us...so they r do an upping my review from 4 to 5 stars!!!! I love breakfast and this place fits the bill! They have a large selection to choose from. For me, I usually get the 38 Special omelette that never fails nor does the biscuit! So this is one of those places that I've driven by several times, but just never gave them a chance since I have a couple breakfast spots that are a bit closer. Well, that changed this past weekend when my fiancé and I stopped by for breakfast. The friendly hostess greeted us upon entering, took my name and offered us some coffee while we waited, nice touch. It was only a 10 minute wait (not bad for weekend morning), but we were able to witness how friendly and social the hostess was with all customers. I mention this to highlight the difference between her and our eventual waitress; just not much of a personality. To be fair, she did seem busy, but I don't know, it just took away from the 'small town charm' that was present throughout the restaurant. After sipping on some coffee, we eventually chose their Chicken n' grits and Salmon & Bagel platter. The meals were ok, but nothing that would warrant a return. The portions were just fine, the grits were nice, but my chicken was bland. I found it necessary to pour hot sauce all over my plate to get the correct level of seasoning. My meal did come with an enormous biscuit which was awesome; it was the perfect tool used to soak up some of the gravy. I wasn't able to taste any of the salmon, but it didn't seem to be impressive. What was impressive from that dish was the whipped chive infused cream cheese, definitely a good topping for their toasted bagel. Overall, just an average meal in a nice looking restaurant. My roommate first took my girlfriend and I here a week or so. Today we took friends from out of town. Through both experiences we loved the food. I ordered a latte and a Lobster Omelet. My girlfriend purchased a Crab Cake Benedict. Which I have to admit I ate half of her food. It was so good! However, the staff seemed to not operate well under pressure. While our very kind server had another big table, she did not provide basic attention to us. Other servers had to step in, including the owner. This seemed to be a strategy for other tables. This led to a bit of confusion when our drink orders changed. This was not communicated properly to our server. All and all, it was a nice experience both times. After several referrals of going to the Dixie Cream Cafe, we finally went as our one meal outing of the weekend. High level overview? NEVER AGAIN. What a waste of money, time, and the rest of my day as I felt queasy after eating here. First off, getting a top off/refill of coffee and water was like pulling teeth. Our waitress was hardly attentive at all. We had to bother another waitress for a straw and such. It took what seemed like an eternity for our meals to come out. My waffle was soggy and undercooked. I barely was able to eat half of it. The omelette was overcooked, burned in some spots. The coffee tasted terrible. All I had was coffee, waffle, and ham and spent over $16 for it? OVERPRICED. The last bit that really stuck with me and bothered me was being scoffed at for bringing my own condiment for my waffle, which is due to the fact that the typical stuff they use in restaurants makes me really sick due to a few ingredients they contain. Fair enough, right? After explaining this, she throws down a thing of syrup (AFTER I already begun eating) and says in a ridiculing tone "for when you want the real stuff". What a nice little place hidden in the heart of Windermere! This is a breakfast and lunch place with service ending at 2:30. The breakfast menu has some delightfully decadent options including bananas foster french toast and lemon ricotta pancakes. I opted for the special hash which was basically pulled pork with breakfast potatoes made into a hash - it was delightful and filling! The biscuits are huge, buttery and flakey. The omelets are BIG and made very well. Can't wait to come back at some point to try lunch or one of the yummy looking pies that I saw in the cold case. We sat outside which was shaded and perfect for the nice weather, but inside seating seems very welcoming as well. Service was average if not a bit rushed, but they were closing soon when we got there. I do have to deduct a bit for using Log Cabin "syrup" on the table. At least re-bottle it so it doesn't seem so cheap! Odd to see that in a restaurant which is otherwise so focused on fresh ingredients. I have a 17-year-old wiener dog we were out for a stroll never been to the Dixie cream Café, so I made a point to call first making sure it was pet friendly establishment on the patio. The young hostess was very helpful and said absolutely make your way down we have patio tables available, upon arriving there were no tables available so I walked inside the establishment to hostess stand for a cover for table with my dog "in hand" also on leash and the owner with an unwelcoming tone of voice says "no dogs in here" .... As I am solo with my pet, at a pet friendly establishment I'm wondering how do I make this so called table appear then.... MAGIC !!! First time here and liked it lots. It was lunch time but we opted for omelette and was not disappointed. I had a 38 omelet which has ham, bacon, Italian and Chorizo sausage. Well mixed cooked perfectly no runs no drips no errors. Same for my wife's Skinny omelette. Good mimosa and coffee. Simple tasteful decor. Little tight seating as tables very close to each other. Has a separate coffee bar and outside seating. No dinner so get there before 2:30pm. Can't wait to return and try their other offerings. read more

We went to Dixie Cream for a birthday breakfast after it had come highly recommended from other friends & I must say that it lived up to the hype our friends gave it. The service was amazing. Troy was our server and everything came out quickly and fresh out of the kitchen. The portion sized were great and the food wasn't overly greasy like some breakfast places. I ordered the goat cheese omelet and it was to die for. I had it made with egg whites and it didn't lose a bit of flavor. It came with a HUGE biscuit, which was so delicious with their fresh jam. My husband ordered their famous brisket hash and said it was delicious. He is a huge brisket fan and ate every last bite. I tried a bite of my grandma's waffle and OH MY GOODNESS was it delicious. The waffle was light and full of flavor. It barely needed any butter or syrup it was enough sweetness in itself! I already told some of my other friends that we had to go back ASAP so they could try. Breakfast is my meal. I could have it 3 times a day. I found this place on Yelp and so very happy I did so. Single non chain restaurants are my preference and I always search for them when traveling. This place is just plain FANTASTIC! No pictures. Sorry I didn't think until the end. Eggs were poached to perfection and their Bananas Foster French Toast was fab. We arrived at the same time as the church crowd so it was quite busy. We had to wait 50 minutes for our seats. The food was so worth the wait. The tea is fresh. The coffee and speciality coffees are excellent. The biscuits and gravy was made with FRESH baked biscuits and homemade gravy. Next time, we will arrive either earlier or later to avoid the crowd. The breakfast and lunch menu are both excellent with enough variety and choices to suit most pallets. I especially like the chef's salad for lunch . A large salad full of healthy meat, cheese ,fresh vegetables and of course the fresh sliced boiled egg. The Dixie Cream has its own superb bakery on site with tempting pies, cakes, cookies , fruit bars and other unique baked goods . I ordered the breakfast sandwich with no bacon. It came with cheddar, fried egg, and a tomato on sourdough. The classic combination made it nearly impossible to be a bad experience, however, it was just awfully plain. With no sauce, average tasting cheese, and the least sourdough tasting sourdough I've ever had, it had nothing special about it. Not to mention that instead of the crisp, warm bread with gooey, melting, delicious filling I was imagining, when it arrived over half the sandwich was a soggy mess... I ended up putting hot sauce and honey on it just to get a little bit of flavor going on. If I return I'll try something else. I grew up walking distance from Dixie Cream Cafe location, and my parents still live there. Of course, when I was growing up, it was the Ready Market. . .then the post office. . .then a bunch of other things. . . and now it's the Dixie Cream Cafe. I'm really happy for Windermere to have this place to go to. Whenever I visit from Atlanta (which is several times a year) I ask to go here for breakfast with my parents, because let's face it, there are not that many great breakfast options around this area. Perkins just sucks. First watch is a generic no character chain. Ocoee Cafe is fine if you don't mind the coronary bypass and sick feeling afterward. I really like Dixie Cream Cafe, they do good food with a smile and a little neighborhood character. My favorite is the main street benny, my husband likes the brisket hash, which if I remember correctly, it's HUGE!) The biscuits are also huge and fluffy and yummy! These are the kinds of places I like to frequent in Atlanta, locally owned neighborhood establishments, and I'm glad to see Windermere finally got their neighborhood cafe too! P.S. I'm a neighbor to the restaurant and have had a challenging relationship with this place. Part of the challenge is that it gets crazy crowded on weekends and it just seems to overwhelm the staff. The menu is pretty diverse and quality is good. If you can go, do yourself the favor. But try to keep in mind when the various church services let out. We arrived and had hoped to sit inside as it was quite warm outside. We were somewhat pressed for time and although there was no line there was also no available tables indoors. We were one of two tables eating outdoors and after deciding on our order..... we waited, and waited, it was 13 minutes (we timed it) before a server came out. She asked the other couple if they'd like a refill on their mimosas....never even so much as glanced at us and then went back inside. That was enough for us. What happened to this restaurant? Was its downfall due to the server named Buggie who served us hard boiled eggs on the eggs benedict and served my pancakes as a dessert at the end of my meal? When my friend complained about the eggs, Buggie said "Their medium rare, that's how I like them". WHAT? Medium rare? And she serves food at the temperatures SHE likes?? Moments later, she reappeared with a plate of raw (and I mean RAW) eggs and went so far as to ask sarcastically "How are these?" We didn't answer, instead I asked where the pancakes that came with my meal were. "I'll go grab them". By the time she delivered my undercooked pancakes I was done with my meal. This place was great! They had a beautiful table ready for us outside at noon during the Easter Sunday brunch rush! The manager called me by name and stopped by the table several times to see how we were doing! Great to see management so involved in the day to day. The special strawberry purée mimosa was delicious and the beef brisket hash was great, but I must say that the cheese grits and the peanut butter pie were the absolute highlight of the meal! This is a cute little cafe/bakery in downtown Windermere. We had the pulled pork barbecue sandwich, which was delicious. I wasn't a fan of the shoestring fries. They weren't hot and I'm not sure that they were freshly made. We had to wait a few minutes for someone to offer to sit us, but after that the service was great. I came here for brunch on New Year's Eve with a large party. We were seated promptly at 10:30, but it was very full when we left at 12:30. Everyone at our table for something different, and everyone's food looked delightful. I got the tomato and goat cheese omelet, which came with fried potatoes and a biscuit. The omelet was wonderful; it was fluffy and not at all watery, which can be hard to accomplish with tomatoes. The potatoes were also really, really good, but they needed some salt and ketchup. But the biscuit! Yum! The biscuit was huge, and in the perfect southern style was flaky and tender. After tip I paid $17, which is on the far upper end of what I'm willing to pay for a breakfast.
