Had lunch here with a friend today. I had the 3-appetizer combo ($25) and chose the Hummus, Maast O Khiar, and a spinach/yogurt based item. My friend got the soup and salad combo. All three of the dips were a generous portion and the bread accompanying them is delicious. The bread was refilled 3 times during the meal. Very, very good. Each of the dips was different and very tasty. The Hummus was smooth and flavorful and the Spinach (served warm) had a garlic flavor. I took a lot of the dips home - the bread was so delicious, I filled up quickly. My friend thought the salad (Salad Alamut) was ok, but the soup (tomato based) was very good. We each had a decaf cappuccino, which were also very good. The service was outstanding. The bread basket was refilled several times and our water glasses were tended to very well. The place was not crowded and we had a leisurely lunch that lasted almost 3 hours. There was no impatience to present us with the bill, and, after we paid, we were still offered refills on water as we lingered for a few more minutes. Excellent service! We felt very welcomed here. The restaurant has a traditional Persian restaurant appearance. It's nice and light, a bit fancy in appearance, but not stuffy.

Delicious! We came here for Valentine's Day and the restaurant was absolutely lovely. We were sat right away and took in the ambiance. Low lighting, tasteful themed decor, not too loud music. The vibes were just right. Our server was amazing. A beautiful woman by the name of.... Noir maybe... maybe Dior. I don't quite remember but she was amazing. She walked us through the menu thoughtfully giving us some background information and her personal recommendations. The food was PHENOMENAL. This was my first time having Persian/Iranian cuisine and I was absolutely blown away. Can't wait to go back and try something new.

SERVICE FOOD AND ATMOSPHERE!!!! We took a chance on a Sunday evening after hearing about this small restaurant that gives you a little bit of Persian and a little bit of mediterranean blended recipes. Whatever they're doing just hits the palate just right. My sea bass melted in my mouth and the balsamic rice was presented beautifully. My lemonade mocktail was delicious. Barry had the seafood pasta which was full of mussel, shrimp and scallops. His cocktail was prepared well he said. I forgot to mention our salads - the dressings nicely prepared- like just for us. Lastly tiramisu- they make it in house -what a great place for a Sunday evening dinner!!-

Back again and same exceptional service with Rian taking great care of us and Cyrus the owners son is caring for everyone like they're family. The quality of the food is immpecable. The tahdeeg is EXCEPTIONAL!!!! The authentic flavor profiles are to be commended. And also the photos posted online of the interior do not do it justice... it has high ceilings and huge windows and lots of natural exposed brick. Really charming. Fun fact- this family has owned restaurants in DC that have been INSTITUTIONS !!! Anyone remember Picolo Restaurant in Gtown ?! In the gorgeous historical home ?? Yep theirs !! Plus a multitude of others. This industry is in this families blood and they're killing it !

One of the best Persian restaurants I've been to! Very elegant restaurant and the service was superb. The waiters came back and wiped down the table after every dish and they would replace your plates and silverware. The waiter came back to refill my water frequently. Excellent service! I ordered the lamb chop shandiz and I got to say that it was the best lamb dish I've had thus far. The lamb was very soft and tender. And there was a minimal gamey taste. Not pungent at all. They provide you with naan and dip in the beginning as well. Highly recommend this restaurant! So much to choose from - you can't go wrong with any choice.

Let's start with the bread. As you can see there's no pictures of it. It held its weight. While warm, it was easily some of the best I've had with the saffron honey butter. I had the koobideh and Caspian Punch. The punch was a refreshing yet subtly strong cocktail - I very much recommend it. My fiancée had the lamb chop & I've got to recommend it over the koobideh. That said, paired with the fries and spice offerings, it was a very solid meal! Finally, the service. All very attentive & friendly. I have to recommend Divan, I know we'll be back. Check it out!

Eggplant and egg dip. Lukewarm, lacking salt, lacking flavor, served without bread.

We came for valentine's day dinner. There were many issues with the night that led to our dinner feeling more like a joke than not. First issue: many tables were added for valentine's day. This created an extremely cramped dining room where we were sitting almost shoulder to shoulder with the folks next to us. The other issue this created was that many food runners had no idea where the tables were now that many more were added. Certain tables near us had 3 or more visits from food runners who brought the wrong food. Food runners often looked lost and ambled around, often asking the customer whether they had their food or not. Second issue: the load generated from the holiday + extra tables overloaded the staff. We waited about 40 minutes for our drink and appetizer - 1.5 hours from sit down for our mains. By the time our mains came, we were ready to leave. We were served a dip without any bread - 10 minute wait for bread to eat our lukewarm dip. Third issue: the food was all served lukewarm and was missing seasoning. The food was spiced and had lots of herbs sure - but no salt to bring the flavor out. Everything tasted dull and the temperature of the food was extremely surprising. Tahdig varied greatly. Ours was a bit light, the tables next to us got burnt tahdig. Our roast chicken was dry, and the whole trout had lost its crisp by the time it hit our table, and we found a bunch of pin bones still present in the fish. Service was largely lacking. We had to flag people down for more bread. Add in the lost food runners, and we ended up thinking this was a bad joke. I am giving two stars as the food, minus the seasoning and temperature, was just OK. The service apologized a couple times, saying the tables added and busyness was tripping them up. Sure, but that's no excuse. Bottom line - $75/pp wasted. Food, service, experience was all poor. When you are charging $40 for a plate and $20 for a drink, there is a service expectation that needs to be met. We will not be back - there is no shortage of great persian restaurants in the DMV area. It's a shame given how many times I have been recommended this restaurant.

A friend told me to come to Divan because I told him I was craving grilled octopus and he stated I would not be disappointed... and I was not! It was so good that I ordered two! Along with some grilled shrimp (which lacked flavor) and this Cornish hen dish (which is definitely plenty of food to share). Be careful of the green sauce the restaurant brings to the table with the bread (it contains nuts). The server did not explain what was in the sauce until I asked. Glad I did not eat it. The service was slow at first (and it was not even crowded), but then it got better. It seems like all the servers help with each table. The ambiance was nice and cozy. It is perfect for a date night. The majority (98 percent) of the customers were older. So if that is not your type of restaurant, you might want to find somewhere else to eat. There is plenty of free parking around the building.

I believe this was my first time trying Persian food. My friends and I didn't know what to order so we went with what our server recommended: Salade Alamut- Arugula salad with beets, goat cheese, and raspberry vinaigrette. It's a nice refreshing salad to start the meal with, but at the same time, not very memorable. Grilled Octopus - Grilled octopus drizzled with olive oil and vinaigrette. The octopus was grilled perfectly and was very tender. Mirza Ghasemi - Eggplant and egg dip with Persian bread. It was a nice little light appetizer. Kabob Torsch - Beef tenderloin kabobs marinated in pomegranate juice. This dish was a little too sweet and the beef was a little too overcooked and dry for me. Mahi Shekampoor - A whole trout stuffed with herb greens and nuts, on sauteed spinach. I think this is my favorite of the night. The fish was cooked perfectly with the herb greens and spinach. I would get this dish again. Mahechay - Braised bone-in lamb in broth. This was my second favorite dish of the night. The lamb and broth was so flavorful with the spices. I would also order this again. Persian Saffron Rice Pudding - I didn't enjoy this. It tasted a little too floral to me. I should have picked a different dessert, but everything else seemed non-Persian. Each entrée came with a plate of rice. Service was great. Our server was very attentive and patient in explaining items on the menu. The owner came over to check on us. The restaurant has a nice cozy decor. It seems kind of upscale, but you don't need to be dressy to be here.

I had a Gormeh Salbzi, a meat stew with beans and herbs. It was served with a side of rice, with a delightfully crispy burnt layer on top. The stew was flavorful, well cooked. The habanero hot sauce that the kitchen brought out when I asked for a spicy sauce was outstanding. Service was attentive and prompt. I think I'll make this my regular spot for food after 9pm. read more

Divan in Mclean is a perfect gem--not just for Persiaphiles, for everyone! The food is divine--intricate but familiar, inspiring but comforting. The service is attentive, welcoming, gracious, without being intrusive; for any occassion--business, personal, celebratory--let them know the vibe and they will deliver. Somehow, Divan is wholly Persian but with Danny Meyer level hospitality, it is perfect for everyone. read more

Absolutely loved this place owner was very nice and staff was extremely courteous and respectful. Our server Ramon was extremely nice respectful and just overall an absolute gem. He gave extremely good service and was always checking on us to make sure we had what we needed. The food was amazing, what got me hooked was they give everyone Tahdig which is a true blessing from God because tahdig is my favorite thing in this world even more than women. The kabob was amazing too I got the sultani filet and koobideh. Their bread was awesome it was kind of like a barbary bread with seeds but they added some garlic which made it addicting lol. Atmosphere was very elegant and it was just overall a very welcoming environment. Highly reccomend to anyone. Although as a muslim consumer im obviously not going for alcohol but they have non alcoholic beer there as well which is nice. Overall, 100 percent reccomend you give it a try many authentic iranian options! And the menu is all halal from my understanding obviously apart from the alcohol. read more

We had lunch at Divan. I went with very high expectation. It did not meet my expectation. The food is good but not extraordinary. The food comes with beautiful presentation, particularly the rice in every dish comes with tahdig (crispy rice). The taste was not that great. Most dishes were not very flavorful. We had Persian macaroni (very dry), Trout shekampor (too sweet for my taste), lamb shank ( low flavor), Fesenjoon ( the best among all, very delicious), gheymeh Bademjoon (excellent and flavorful). The service was excellent. Frederick, our server was very attentive, and offered us a free desert when he realized our food was a bit underwhelming. Overall, it is a good place, but for the price, it is not one of the best. read more

Yassin was our very friendly waiter. We went to Divan restaurant for the first time to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday! The food was great, and so was the ambience. We ordered the stuffed trout and lamb shank. We also ordered the jasmine rice with fresh herbs and fava beans, which was lovely and creative and they have a large list of non-alcoholic options so I ordered the emerald cucumber drink, which was exquisite. We were also happy to see that there was an outside dining option. read more

This is the best fine dining restaurant in downtown McLean; hands down! My Wife and I had dinner there earlier this week. For appetizers we had Shrimp Ceviche and Grilled Octopus. For entree we had Duck Fesenjan and Chicken Barg. We shared the Makhloot for desert. All were wonderful, served in a very comfortable environment and with superb service. This place knows how to set up a new restaurant. The chairs and tables are unusually comfortable. We'll definitely return. read more

Delicious drinks with generous pours. Very unique food on the menu that you can't find anywhere else locally. However, most everything is on the salty side . Some great servers. Some okay. Management customer service is very bad. I even tried going a few times to see if it's different... management always acts like you owe them. read more

This was our second visit to Divan and it was another great experience. Our meal was wonderful and the service excellent. We had the ChenJeh (leg of lamb skewer) and the Fesenjan (walnut pomegranate stew with chicken) which was served with beautiful basmati rice. Our server was Isabelle who was so friendly, attentive, and very well versed in the preparation of all the dishes. All the servers and staff are warm and engaging. Plan ahead if you want a table on a Friday or Saturday, tonight was busy, but there was no wait for a table. We'll be back! read more

Customer Service was terrible! But food was fine. Me and my friends came to celebrate my Birthday and we been excited! The restaurant staff acted like we didn't know anything and were arguing with me and my friends all the time. Hostess David was rude and always made some ridiculous remarks to me. The first thing I noticed is the great chairs. I know that is dumb to write about, but the chairs in many restaurants are not comfortable. These made me want to stay all night. The decor was tasteful and charming. The service was impeccable. We have very lovely cocktails. And then there was the food... really delicious. I had the lamb and my husband had the salmon. It was all fantastic. We dined with an Iranian friend who loved it and said it was authentic. We really loved this place and will go again! read more

Terrible service. You cannot make waiter to heed to your simple food order. He does what he likes. Rice is served with yellow tadig that is food coloring. Vegetables tasteless. Barg and kubideh higher priced but low quality. Fessenjan is made with tamarind to save on pomegranate sauce. No wonder most tables were empty on weekend read more

I have been now twice at Divan. First time I did a pickup order and though the food was delicious which made me bring my parents the next day for a birthday. The food was delicious. The presentation was amazing. The waiter, Fredrick, Manager and Owner were so hosting and nice. I recommend trying it out. You will not be disappointed. read more

Amazing food, service and ambiance. This was my first time at Divan and will now be a regular. Their Shirazi salad was so flavorful and beautifully presented. For the entree, it was the best Koobideh kabob I have ever had and the rice with tadik was a surprise treat. It was all so flavorful and delicious, not to mention the generous portions of both the beef and rice. For dessert we tried the Persian Vermicelli Sorbet and it was flavors that you could not stop eating. All in all, an amazing experience and will come back over and over. From the host, to the manager to our server Justin, it was a welcoming atmosphere and they rightfully take pride in their restaurant and food. read more

As it was our first exposure to Persian cuisine, you can't imagine how relieved I was when David expertly guided us through the menu, ensuring we experienced the full gamut of the restaurant's offerings. It was the third time we went to this restaurant, the first time was good, the second time was ok and today was very bad. The rice was not good, koobideh is suppose to be fat and juicy but today's koobideh was dry and sad the barg was also dry and had no taste to it, koobideh was worse than barg, they both tasted like hay. A $33 food tasted like a $3 food. My husband's chicken was red and uncooked. They have to do better or people will not go back to their restaurant. I know I will not go back anymore. 0 stars. read more

We went there excited to see all the raving reviews, but very disappointed mainly by the service. Service is honestly a big part of dining experience for me if that's bad everything goes down the drain. I ordered two appetizers after which waiter disappeared for an hour, only 1 came after an hour and then they came to get our entree menu order. Lamb appetizer is baby bite sized 4 cubes of lamb on a stick, skip it!! We had a course of 4 waiters attend to us meanwhile restaurant wasn'teven packed and yet took them to take my appetizers order 3 times to get it right which was babaganoush type eggplant dish. Very basic. For the price they charge the service should be impeccable but honestly one of the worst and unattentive and no apologies given either. We visited Divan Restaurant to celebrate my mom's birthday, and it became one of those memories we will always treasure. When we arrived, my mom was using her walker. Before we even reached the entrance, one of the gentlemen on the staff noticed and immediately came to open the wider door so she could enter comfortably. My mom always likes to choose where she sits, and he patiently waited while we found our table and got settled. It was such a thoughtful and respectful gesture. The restaurant's decor and layout were practical and perfect. It is nice and pleasant to stay there. Our waiter(Rahim) warmly welcomed us, offered us water, and then brought the drink menu. I ordered the cherry drink, never expecting it to be so nostalgic. The very first sip took me back to my childhood in Iran. It tasted just like the homemade cherry drink and cherry jam my mom used to make years ago. Then came the fresh bread with butter, honey, and olives--absolutely delicious. For appetizers, we ordered the cutlet, Ash Reshteh, and beet yogurt. Every single dish was outstanding, and we finished every bite. I lost my father three years ago, and he was famous in our family for making the best cutlets. The cutlet at Divan tasted so much like my dad's that it felt as if he were there celebrating with us. It was an emotional and beautiful moment. For my entrée, I ordered Sabzi Polo with salmon. The rice was cooked to perfection--light, fragrant, and fluffy. The salmon was incredibly tender, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. Honestly, I couldn't stop eating it. My sister ordered the Chengeh kebab, which she said was excellent--although she wouldn't even let us have a taste! Then came a surprise that made my mom's birthday even more special. The staff brought out a slice of cake with a lit candle on a large plate decorated with the words, "Happy Birthday." They certainly didn't have to do that, but they did, and it meant so much to all of us. For dessert, we enjoyed the Persian ice cream and pomegranate Paloodeh. They were absolutely delicious and tasted exactly like the desserts we remember from Iran. The chef is truly a genius and a gifted Persian artist. He came to our table personally to ask if everything was to our satisfaction. I honestly couldn't find the words to express how much their hospitality, kindness, and extraordinary food meant to us. As we were leaving, the staff once again came to help my mom through the door and wished us well. Their warmth and genuine care completed a perfect evening. I would gladly drive to Virginia just to dine at Divan Restaurant again. Thank you for your incredible hospitality, outstanding food, and for making us feel so wonderfully at home. You gave my mom a birthday she will never forget, and you gave our family a beautiful memory that we will always cherish. read more

To my dismay, the chicken in the dish was severely undercooked. It was raw and pink in the center, posing a significant health hazard and rendering the meal inedible. Ensuring the quality and safety of the food served is of utmost importance, and this failure is unacceptable. I ordered a dish that included rice as a significant component. However, upon tasting the rice, I noticed that it was noticeably dry and lacked the desired moisture and texture. The dryness of the rice affected the overall enjoyment of the dish and left me disappointed with the dining experience. As a customer, I believe that the quality of each component of a dish should be carefully maintained to ensure a consistent and satisfactory dining experience. In this case, the dryness of the rice significantly impacted my perception of the dish and left room for improvement. Furthermore, the overall service I received during my visit was far from satisfactory. The staff displayed a lack of attentiveness and a dismissive attitude towards customer needs. Despite my attempts to seek assistance, it was challenging to garner any attention, resulting in prolonged waiting times and an overall negative experience. The quality of the food and the level of service are vital aspects of any dining experience, and both fell significantly short of expectations. Considering the severity of these concerns, I have made the decision not to return to this restaurant in the future. I believe it is essential to communicate my experience, as a unsatisfied customer may choose to share their negative encounter with others. While I understand that mistakes can happen, it is crucial that your establishment takes immediate action to address these issues. I implore you to thoroughly review and improve your food preparation procedures to prevent uncooked food from being served. Upscale Persian/Iranian restaurant in a nice open space with a large menu and attentive service I came here for dinner with my GF on a Friday night, and the place had plenty of tables available. Our meal was started off with a small basket of tasty bread & butter. Also, I got a cocktail which was both very tasty and very strong. For food, we decided to share a bunch of things between the 2 of us. We opted to get 1 main dish and a variety of 4 appetizers. Between us had a hummus appetizer, a grape leaves appetizer, a shrimp appetizer, a meatball appetizer, and a chicken main dish. They were all solid. HIS IS A TIP FOR ANYONE WHO WANTS $+ APPITIZERS-------- They offer an "appetizer sampler platter", which is presented as a "choose 3 of a select number of appetizers" for the price of $27. Since we wanted to get 4 appetizers to split between us anyway, we asked to include the 3 most expensive that we were going to order (a meatball, grape leaves, and shrimp) on this platter, and to order the cheapest appetizer we were going to get (hummus) as a separate order. Frustratingly, they decided to do what was most lucrative for them, and they swapped the hummus (what was the cheapest of the appetizers we wanted) with the the shrimp ( the most expensive appetizer that we wanted) so that the shrimp was a separate order from the platter. If we were to know they were going to do this we would have ordered the platter first, and then ordered the shrimp afterwards. This maneuvering on their part cost us an extra ~10$ Both indoor & patio seating, and also have some indoor tables right next to large open windows/doors Service was very fast read more

We recently hosted our daughter's 40th birthday as a priivate event at this restaurant, and the entire experience was outstanding from start to finish. We had a great experience at this cozy Persian restaurant. The staff was very friendly, making us feel welcome right away. The ambiance was warm and inviting--perfect for a relaxed meal. We started with Zeytoon Parvardeh, which was absolutely delicious. For the main course, we ordered the Soltani Kabob and Chicken Barg. The portion sizes were generous, and the Koobideh was flavorful and juicy. However, the Barg wasn't the best I've had--good, but I've had better elsewhere. Their menu focuses on cuisine from northern Iran (Shomal), which is unique, and I'd love to come back to try more of their regional dishes. We also got Persian ice cream, which was decent but not particularly memorable. One thing that was a bit surprising was the surcharge for using a card. It's unusual for a sit-down restaurant to encourage cash payments, especially when most people use cards these days! read more

Divan was a surprising treat! The service was exceptional. The location is quaint but easy to find. This was our first time eating Persian food and it was amazing. Compliments to Cyrus and Amir who encouraged the wonderful dishes and explained what each one was. The stuffed trout, the grilled octopus, the lamb shank, the shrimp ceviche, the mussels...I can't decide what was better! Each dish came with a variety of different flavored rice. Again, it was a treat. Even the atmosphere was sophisticated and grown! I think the worst experience of the night was bringing our kids. Big mistake lol! Next time, we'll bring friends... read more

The restaurant itself looks amazing and service was great but food disappointed me, steak was too dry and we asked for well done it came medium rare so we give it back to them to cook it more. After steak came back it was extremely hard and there is no flavor in the meat. We also got couple more dishes but it was not good at all. Only thing that didn't disappoint me was the grilled octopus. It looked like a fancy restaurant with great atmosphere and my expectations were high but food was extremely bad and expensive, I usually don't care about the price but I paid for an expensive meal that I couldn't eat!! read more

By far Divan wins the best ambiance Persian restaurant in the DMV. Upscale and modern with a elegant full bar. The service was fantastic upon entering. The host was Cyrus who was friendly and professional. You felt welcomed from the moment you came in. We were a party of 5 for a Sunday night dinner. The appetizers, food and drinks were excellent and the presentation was superb. Highly recommend for the seasoned Persian food lover to someone new to the cuisine. Bravo to Divan! Make reservations in advance since it was crowded even for a Sunday night. Bon appetit! read more

Excellent Persian food. Service is attentive and personalized. Food arrived quickly. Kooftah Tabrizi, Kookoo sabzi, roasted salmon, and rice pudding are recommended. The cocktail menu was imaginative and the drinks quite good. Wine selection is also strong. The manager and servers made an effort to ensure that we were happy without being intrusive. Easy access to parking. The restaurant can get busy - it is deservedly popular in McLean. Recommend reservations, esp. for weekends. read more

The service was disappointing as our group was not provided with bread or an appetizer we ordered (forgot), which we expected based on past experiences. While the main course was fine, the lack of attention to this detail left a negative impression. Additionally, we received notice that our reservation time would not be met prior to arriving but was magically met when we arrived. Divan is by far one of the greater restaurants I've been to in the McLean/Northern Virginia area due to their amazing staff, when I walked in I was greeted by the very kind maitre d' David and my server Raim guided me through the menu and gave me the best recommendations.I told all of my friends to try out this beautiful restaurant to see for themselves, if you're thinking of eating here the answer is an absolute YES. read more

Spectacular business lunch location. The service, food and atmosphere are fantastic. The environment is inviting, elegant but not loud. Plan on making my go-to for meetings in McLean. In particular, I truly enjoyed the attention to detail and hospitality which made it easy to cover a lot of ground over the course of a two-hour lunch.
